Extremely Disappointing Experience -- Felt Taken Advantage Of I don't usually write reviews, but I felt it was important to share my recent experience with Hinshaw's Service Department so others especially women are aware of what they might encounter. Reading prior reviews helped me realize this isn't an isolated issue, and hopefully, mine helps someone else. My vehicle was towed to their service center on October 8 because it wouldn't start. It turned out to need a simple battery replacement, which I expected to be straightforward. During that time, my service advisor Tim informed me about two recalls (the bearing rod and fuel pump), which I approved to have completed. My car was ready on October 10, and I picked it up that morning. The very next day, my vehicle unexpectedly shifted into neutral on its own and wouldn't change gears. I recorded the issue and contacted the service department right away. The car was towed back a second time, and I was told no error codes appeared but that they would keep it for observation. The following day, they said everything looked fine and that it was running fine. However, within two minutes of leaving the lot, the same problem happened again. I called immediately, and Tim advised me to bring it back yet again. Later, he said the issue is the Transmission Control Module (TCM) but the part was on backorder and could take up to a year to arrive. He even suggested that my "best option" is to trade in the vehicle, then transferred me to sales. When I spoke with David in sales, he told me the used car manager wouldn't buy a car with an undiagnosed issue but could take it on a trade-in. The whole thing felt off. I specifically said I don't want to trade my vehicle in but please quote me on an as is amount they would possibly give me for the vehicle. By this point, I had already paid $387.54, and now I was being told I'd need to pay another $220 for diagnostics and potentially $1,700 (TCM) + $800 in labor for a repair that might not even fix the issue. There was no clear explanation or guarantee. Tim was polite but seemed rushed, dismissive, and uninterested in hearing my concerns. His push to get me into a new vehicle felt manipulative. I contacted Service Manager Mike McCoy to better understand what was actually done to my car and what I was being charged for. Mike called me, explained the steps taken, and apologized. However, he also implied that I might have caused the transmission problem because I hadn't done a transmission fluid flush something he confirmed by calling my oil change shop and checking my CARFAX, which felt unnecessary and accusatory. Interestingly, Mike also discovered that the TCM part was not backordered as Tim claimed it could be available within a week. About 30 minutes later, Mike called to tell me that after personally inspecting my car, he found three software updates that needed to be installed and that this resolved the issue completely. While I appreciate that Mike ultimately took the time to fix the problem, this entire experience was stressful, frustrating, and deeply disappointing. It's clear there's a serious lack of communication and oversight in the service department. Tim, in particular, should be monitored more closely his actions nearly pushed me into a completely unnecessary trade-in or buying unnecessary parts which could have cost me thousands of dollars. In the end, the issue was fixed with software updates, not a new transmission or part on "backorder." The thought that someone could intentionally mislead a customer especially one already stressed and unfamiliar with car repairs is disturbing. Hinshaw's needs to take a hard look at how their service advisors operate. What happened to me felt predatory and dishonest. I sincerely hope no one else, especially another woman, has to experience what I went through. read more

Service is good just don't get your car washed there get it detailed elsewhere. They are horrible at it. I'd never let them wash my car again as only half of my car got washed when they washed it and i let them know and it definitely wasn't vacuumed out. We walked in for a test drive for a mid sized SUV . Our experience was pleasant, the new sales with a beard guy(sorry I forgot the name) made an effort to show was all the advanced features of the car. I loved the luxurious feel inside the car although we didn't end up buying here it was a nice experience . I should have known this place was garbage when I picked up my new car a year ago and they had missed several spots in detailing it. I complained when they sent a feedback text and never heard a response. I thought they might say they could take care of these items when I picked up my license plate. Nope, never heard a word. When I bought the car, they stated the first oil change was free so I scheduled an appointment there despite it being 30 miles away and not the closest Acura dealer. I had to cancel my late February appointment due to a death in the family. I called on March 20 to reschedule it for March 30. No one told me at that time that I would be 2 days beyond one year and that the free oil change would not be valid. I wasn't told there was a one year limit when I bought the car. When I explained this to Tim, an atrocious service rep, he said there was nothing they could do, it was an Acura policy. What a bunch of BS! Do you want to keep servicing my car for the rest of its life? You would think you could throw in a $150 oil change that you promised and never did after a $50k+ purchase. Adding insult to injury, I complained about two things not working correctly and they didn't fix either of them!!! First, my maps function has an automatic wifi update setting. It was stuck on a partial update and would not complete as it always said network unstable no matter where I was. They told me they had updated the system but when I drove away I found the same errors. I drove back and Tim told me I would have to manually update it with a USB stick as the auto update only works 2 out of 10 times and must have a clear view of the sky. Why put this feature on if it only works less than 2 of 10 times and why couldn't you as the dealer take 10 minutes to do the USB update instead of me wasting 20 minutes due to my unfamiliarity. And why tell me you had updated it!!!! Second, the wireless charger only worked very slowly and heated my phone up with or without an acceptable case. They tested it "with a couple of phones" and said it was working. What a BS test! I told them of the problems I had with my phone and they said it was finicky with some phones including Apple, but I have a Samsung. Again, why put a feature on a car that doesn't work? Finally, the comfort and amenities in their waiting area are nonexistent, a slum compared to Acura of Bellevue. Hard chairs, minimal workspace, spartan beverage and snack selection. No loaner car. They were supposed to wash and vacuum the car but the vacuum job was pathetic. They did not vacuum the back end at all. Hinshaw's Acura lost a customer for life, rather than gaining one! read more

I took my 2022 MDX A-Spec in for repairs, and the process was incredibly easy. I had tried calling another dealership twice and was promised a callback, but I never received one. Although Hinshaw is further away and less convenient for me, it was definitely worth the drive. I bought an Acura from Hinshaw's Honda at Fife , Washington in 2022 . They required a 5 thousand dollar deposit. I flew over from Eastern Washington on my dime . Sunny, the salesman picked me up . Very nice man and very helpful. My son , a former manager for Northwest Motor Sports , met me there . The GM was there and was nice of course at the time . He said I could come back for a free oil change . This Acura I bought was the most expensive car I have ever had at 67 years old ( 86 thousand plus ) . Since I live 240 miles away I had my oil changes at McCurley honda ( I will never use them again either ) . I've only had 2 there . So I get a recall from Acura on my sofrware for my car . Called McCurley , they couldn't do it but didn't explain why . Called Honda of America . They tried to intercede with McCurley but they still wouldn't do it . So I called Hinshaws Acura scheduled my recall and oil change ( car was due and I thought I might use my free one ) . Got there on Monday April 21st at around 10:10. Went up to the service desk and checked in . The dealership was full . I told the dealership desk person I would go talk to Tim the GM about the oil change . Went to his desk on the showroom floor . Waited just a little bit . Started discussing the oil change and his whole demeanor changed. He raised his voice and said what right do you have to ask for a free oil change , that he had to pay his mechanics ( is it really coming out of his pocket ? ) I said well you said I could get a free oil change when I bought the car . He was so rude and unprofessional the way he spoke to me , talked down to me with a raised voice even. My son happened to call at the same time ( he now owns his own car lot in Puyallup ) . I told him what Tim said ( it was on speaker) . He told Tim that he would never send anyone to Acura . And Tim yelled back go Fuck Off . Everyone in the place heard him . He said it will be 149 . 00 dollars . Outrageous price ( I've been getting them here at the Honda dealership for 89.00 . So I went back to the service desk and cancelled the oil change . Sunny thank goodness came over and talked to us and got the mechanic to move our rig up so we could get out of there . He is always so polite. Afterall we had 240 miles over Mt . Rainier to drive back and now it's 11:20 . When we were sitting in the waiting room the gal next to me a me what was going on and I told her . She got up twice off the couch to go look at Tim . She said yeah that's the guy . My husband and I don care for him at all . She said I'm going to tell my husband about this when I get home . So you know the saying you treat 1 person badly and tgey tell ten people and those people tell ten people etc. Well , I hope this makes everyone think about buting a car from Hinshaw's Honda of Fife . The sales people are nice but definitely price gouge and misrepresent what they are offering: service department is WAY over-priced and 3M coating is horrible. The service department is so, so, so expensive. I paid about $400 for an oil change, air filters, and new wipers. That is way different from the $45 + disposal fees and tax quoted over the phone. They looked at my tires and said I had a small nail which was reparable and to take it somewhere else. Well, I went to Les Schwab and they said my tires were worn down to secondary rubber and the nail puncture couldn't be repaired. Was the "included" tire inspection even accurate? Doesn't seem so. I also should have looked into 3M coating more before I said yes to it, but it was very misrepresented. I HATE it. I have a white car and there is always a line of dust around every seam of the coating. The worst is across the middle of my hood. It ruined the beauty of my car. True I didn't do my research, but I was told it would "cover the hood." Just another reason not to return. read more

I bought a 2022 MDX which was the first model year early in the release period. After we made a deal, they were in such a hurry to get out the door that the handoff for a brand new car with lots of new tech features was rushed through even though I offered to come back the next day. As a result, there were many features that I never fully figured out. When my lease was up, I purchased the same car from a different dealership and discovered a huge amount of features they didn't introduce me to. I even went back a few weeks later with some questions that they did not have time to spend with me as the already had my money. Please DO NOT BUY from this very dishonest stealership!!!!! I have never seen a dealership that adds $2,000 market adjustment fee on freaking Acura RDX... this is no NSX!!! They also charge $315 as "NEW CAR PREP"... this is beyond ridiculous, pretty much they will charge you $315 to leave swirlmarks all over your brand new car. Lastly they add unnecesary items such as mudguards and sell for $906. These guys are out of their mind. Unfortunately my parents got scammed into buying their car with their very dishonest sales tactic. From verbally giving them higher trade-in value to urging them to sign the documents earlier before showing the window sticker. This was their 3RD ACURA they bought from this stealership (unfortunately) and this is how they treat their loyal customers. When I confronted GM about it, he honestly thinks that we got a deal that we paid few hundreds OVER window sticker price. Please DO NOT BUY your Acura from these crooks. I believe Hinshaw Acura tried to take advantage of my wife, and when pressed about it, they strove to make our lives harder on purpose out of spite. Brought in my car to confirm a suspicion of a bad PCM. Hinshaw agreed the PCM was likely bad. Since my car was converted from automatic trans to manual, they weren't willing sell me the PCM. Fair enough, I get it. I told them I would get a used PCM and bring it in. I needed them to install it and do the immobilizer programming. As far as I know they are the ones who have to do it. This is the same thing I did when I originally did the manual transmission conversion several years prior. They agreed and said it wouldn't be an issue. After buying a used PCM, I called to schedule my appointment. The person I talked to sounded annoyed and confused. Maybe the way I stated things. He asked if I was buying a PCM from them then. I said no, I have one, I just need them to install it and do the immobilizer programming. After the clarification, He begrudgingly said okay and made the appointment. My wife brings the car in for the appointment, and this is where everything goes wrong. First, she is told she needs to have both of our keys, otherwise the second key won't work anymore. I don't recall having both keys last time I had this done, but, maybe I did. Either way, no one told us to bring all of our keys. She goes home to get keys. Tells me she had to get the key, and that she was on her way back, also they told her the work would take 2 hours. Big problem, last time I only paid for 1 hour of labor and was in and out of the dealership in 1 hour. I call to ask for the breakdown of the 2 hour charge. I'm told it takes 1 hour to replace the PCM. (It doesn't, it takes about 10 minutes if you take your sweet time.) She said it takes another hour to do the programming. Again, it doesn't, not even close. I calmly tell her that last time I had this done, I was charged one hour, and that I was in and out within that hour window, I would like to know why it's changed or where the extra hour comes from. She says again it takes an hour to do both. I state that I am having trouble understanding where the entire extra hour comes from vs last time. She says the last time I had it done was in 2018 (maybe 2019 I don't quite remember) and that things had changed. I ask again how it was done previously in one hour, and why now it has to take 2? I'm put on hold for a few seconds, she comes back on the line to tell me that she had spoken to the manager, and that it was evidently dealership policy that they will not install any used, aftermarket, or customer supplied parts on the vehicle. That if I wanted them to do the work I would have to install the PCM (at which point I can't drive the car) and have it towed to them to have them program it. I say a very distressed "Okay, thanks." She responds with a smug "Have a nice day" My wife has headed back to the dealer with the second key. I call her to tell her what had just transpired. She shows up, she's met with "We won't install used parts, you'll have to have your husband install it and then bring the car to us." My wife walks out to the parking lot and calls me. In a phone call lasting an entire 4 minutes and 22 seconds, she tells me they refused to do the work and I walk her through the process as she successfully replaces the PCM in the car with the used one. Less than 5 minutes and its installed. She walks back in, hands the keys to the service writer and says "Okay, I just installed the used PCM like you said we had to, its ready for you to program." 30 minutes later she hears the car start and get driven somewhere (meaning the programming had to have been done already. Meanwhile, she can overhear the service writers talking negatively/with an attitude about customers while she's waiting. Not in a back room, in the service are a short distance from the customer waiting are. Where literally anyone can hear them. 30 minutes more, and they deliver the car. Not even courtesy washed like last time. On the receipt is a bit about no warranties on used parts. Nothing about not installing them. Why would it say that if they didn't install used parts in the first place? Why was it all okay until I asked about the extra labor charge? Why would they waste mine and my wifes time if they knew the entire time that I had a used part that they were unwilling to install? I belive the service writer made it up out of spite when I pressed about why my wife was being charged twice as much in labor time for work that I previously had done myself. read more

Second time coming here for service and most likely won't be back. My car was in the service department for 3 days and no courtesy car was offered. Upon asking, I was informed they are "only available if you purchased your Acura directly from them". So plan accordingly. They also asked about a sound coming from the rear of the vehicle, implying that it was coming from the back rear undercarriage of the car. In actuality, I was charged $195 for them to inform me that the roof racks we installed made a whistling sound and they "recommend replacing". We obviously already knew about the whistling sound and would have never had them check it. Also, when we came to pick up the vehicle I waited with my daughter at least 10 minutes to be helped while other employees sat behind the counter and didn't engage in any communication or offered to help. read more

We just took our Acura in on Monday the 31st of July for an oil change. Told them the car was using some oil. It was 1/2 quart low and was at 60% remaining on oil meter. We waited for 1 1/2 hour. They charged us for an oil change. Over $50. We paid and went to get the car, it was parked in the same spot before the oil change and had not been washed. Upon return to our house we checked the meter. It had not changed from the 60% remaining point. The oil was somewhat dirty and was 1/2 quart low. Same as before. We don't think they did anything to the car and charged us for an oil change. We go back tomorrow to question them. Last name on bill "Hunt P" Update. We called today. Told them our story. They sent a loaner and driver. They took the Acura. Upon investigation they found the oil had not been changed. They changed the oil and cleaned the car inside and out. Returned the car to the driveway. They are sending a refund for the oil change. At least they did a good job following up after Management was involved. read more

I spoke to cooperate and was told to contact the GM. I called spoke to Hailey, I can hear her telling Eric the service person I was asking for Tim the GM. , then came back to the phone and told me he was not there. The next morning I brought my hubby back with me and Mike McCoy the service manager was such a unprofessional individual you can tell they rip people off all day. After telling him I reached out to cooperate he said it didn't matter Tim the GM would be in agreement with him. My husband told him we were not taking the car and we left , only got him to call back and say come get the car , no charges will be required and they'll put the car back together. Total sign of guilt. I'm holding Hinshaw response if something goes wrong with my vehicle. I'm also going to call cooperate back about how the issue was handled and let them know I didn't get the chance to speak to Tim the GM. This place is a total rip off and they should hire new staff members. I'll never go back there. Service department are absolute crooks. My girlfriend came in for an oil change and the cabin air filters to be changed. We said absolutely do not rotate tires as they were brand new. They ended up charging for a package service. $345 later and less than 90 minutes from drop off to pick up. All they did was the oil change and changed a 12 dollar filter. My wife bought the new 2019 rdx and after getting it serviced for squeaky breaks and suspensions we picked up the car and all we see are swirl marks and scratches that werent there prior to dropping off . Horrible customer service! Predatory staff. Ladies in particular I would strongly urge you to stay away from this place. I took my Acura in for a very simple 3 hour brake fix. It took them over a week and they charged me nearly 2k. I was also directed to the sales team by my service rep on more than one occasion even though I said I was absolutely not interested. I was harassed on multiple days for hours. I was even harassed by someone on their day off! Outrageous. When I complained I was told "there's nothing I can do about that". I was also not able to retrieve some items out of my vehicle and had to return multiple times to try to get the items. At no point was I notified about the delays in service. I was quoted multiple different dollar amounts for the work and then when I questioned it the service rep claimed never to have spoken with me. The lies fly freely around Hinshaw's. I don't like buying a car at this dealership but I was too lazy to drive to Tukwila and they did have the model I wanted. Sales tactics are pushy. Sales people juggling multiple customers at one time and don't make you feel like your business is valued. Sales manager never bothered to greet us or talk to us. Much better experience at other dealerships. I do like the service manager tho, so i will be bringing my car here for service. Mike is great!! read more

Great Service! Sheena was my rep and very helpful and provided EXCELLENT service, also good to see Tim back! The highlight of of my experience at Acura was the Car Wash. I always opt out of the car wash just to save time. I actually let them wash it this time. I will ALWAYS take them up on the car wash, it was beyond remarkable. read more
