She larned about the restaurant from Kelly Drives, a program on the local TV station that features establishments in and around Philadelphia. We did not have to wait very long before being seated at a booth. The booth is semi-private. The ambiance of the restaurant is subdued. We ordered the Wagyu Beef Gyoza, Garden Ginger Salad, Beef Drunken Noodle and Tuna Trio. The Beef Drunken Noodle was outstanding. I don't usually like noodle dishes and absolutely love this one. I had a wonderful experience at Hiramasa on Sunday for dinner. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and super helpful when we asked for suggestions. We ended up doing the 9 course omakase which is done tableside. These courses consisted of items that are already on the menu, so now I have my favorites for next time I come in! Everything was presented so nicely. You can tell that they are super passionate about what they do and want to share that with everyone. I've already recommended this place to several others. The dishes have so much attention to detail and it was truly a fun and delicious dining experience. My personal favorites: chilean sea bass, toro tartare, oyster shell and shooter I will absolutely be back, especially because they'll be updating the menu every so often. For a restaurant in a strip mall, Hiramasa's decor is fairly trendy. We arrived on time for a 7 p.m. reservation and were asked to wait. Fortunately, the bar wasn't busy. About 20 minutes later (and a previous check-in to make sure they knew we were still waiting), we were told our table was ready. Fortunately, someone who looked like a manager put our drinks on a tray and showed us to our table. As it was small and there wasn't a lot of space, he kindly offered to check my coat. The restaurant was loud on a Friday night with an overly loud group of 4 sitting next to us. Despite that, our server was friendly and attentive. We started with complimentary seasoned edamame. After reading multiple reviews, I ordered the crispy rice tuna appetizer. It was delicious and unique with the crunchy rice bottom and soft tuna topping. As an entree, I ordered the black pearl roll with black rice, similar to brown rice, and my husband got the teriyaki glazed prime angus beef. The maki was beautifully presented and quite filling as an entree. I loved the yellowtail with the black tobiko. The star of the show, however, was the kimchi fried rice with an egg. The combination of flavors was delicious. We also shared a pot of tea which is perfect for two. Hiramasa is expensive. We spent close to $200 for two people including our drinks at the bar and a tip. The restaurant itself is tucked away in a shopping plaza on the corner. The inside is full of such amazing ambiance, feeling super classy! From the music to the staff, everything is relatively a great experience! We went during lunch hours during the week and everything went as I expected. Great service, great food, and great company. The oysters tasted extremely fresh and it came with this liquid sauce that reminded me of calamansi but also had a sweetness to it. I literally could drink it! The crispy rice was probably my favorite. I always enjoy eating crispy rice with tuna. And this most definitely did not disappoint. Location recently opened and I came here to celebrate a birthday. The ambiance and decorations were phenomenal and clean. It is on the fancier side & the food lives up to the looks of the place! If you get tea, they give you a tea pot... so be prepared to share... unless you're a tea lover. All their teas were delicious. They have a large array of specialty rolls and everything tasted fresh. My partner saw this restaurant on the local TV program, Kelly Drive's and decided to try it. The decor in the restaurant is relaxing and warm. We ordered the Rock Shrimp Aioli which is similar to Bang Bang Shrimp. It was delicious. My starter was the Crispy Rice Tuna. They were large pieces of crispy rice with large pieces of spicy tuna. An excellent way for me to start my meal. I had the Prime Angus Beef Kaiseki and my partner had the Beef Drunken Noodle. My plate was very good. Although I thought about bringing some home to have left overs, it was too good to stop eating. The noodles were very good. ** Chased out of restaurant to my car by server demanding a 20% tip. ** Dined at Hiramasa on Saturday, 4/18, for an early dinner. I was accompanied by my wife and newborn daughter. We've been to hiramasa quite a few times, and had an older gentleman serve us (Makoto)? Got our usuals as everything here is good! Only complaint this trip was the steak was chewy in the wagyu fried rice. Towards the end of our dinner, I went to the bathroom. I come back to my wife seeming uncomfortable. She told me the server came to the table and asked if we were tipping more. We left without changing the tip amount. As I'm putting my daughter in the car, the server is running across the parking lot towards me so I approached him. He demanded that I add an extra $10 as I have to tip 20%. I calmly, politely told him I don't tip a % of the bill and do a flat rate. This made him irate and he started raising his voice at me. He was saying how he only makes $2 an hour, I was there for an hour, etc. None of which has anything to do with me. This type of hostile behavior is dangerous and simply a bad look. read more

Hiramasa Sushi gets one star strictly because zero isn't an option. We came in expecting good food and a normal experience, not to get completely sold out in the middle of senior assassin. Staff casually gave up information that put us at a huge disadvantage, basically turning dinner into an ambush setup. It's honestly wild that a place we trusted would involve themselves in something like that. The food didn't even have a chance to make up for it because the whole experience was overshadowed by how shady that was. I'm not sure if I caught this restaurant on an off night or if there's a new sushi chef, but as shown in the photo, the sushi was cut extremely thin (all 3 rolls) This made it difficult to eat because it fell apart easily--the chopsticks would crush it as soon as you picked it up. On a positive note, the ambiance was great, and our server was amazing--informative, lively, and very accommodating. Presentation and quality of the fish was decent. Went here with a bud that lived nearby. He made reservations, we arrived a little late but they honored our reservation. First thing first, we ordered the bone marrow dish, it wasn't a lot of food, but it was so delicious. We also ordered another app but I can not seem to remember. My buddy ordered an array of rolls for us to try. It ended out on this wooden tray, and then they activate the dry ice. It's cool for presentation. This place I would say is great for date night, or special occasion. This isn't your local sushi spot in a shopping mall, even if this one is. It's more upscale and high end. Hiramasa - Great ensemble of sushi rolls. - Japanese Near Me - Newtown Square, Pennsylvania

I've been wanting to try the new Hiramasa Japanese Restaurant in Newtown Square and was finally able to before Christmas. Here's my thoughts and experience. I've included one video (for fun) and a bunch of pictures. Short version: It was a good experience, fresh, a bit pricy, nice presentation, and I would skip the wagyu next time. Full version: It's a nice looking place. Definitely a good option for a date night. Tables and booths are roomy. Lighting is well done. It had a nice ambience going on in there. (pics included) They start you off with a complementary bowl of edamame. Not much to say about it because, well, it's edamame lol. It was seasoned well and it made my fingers dirty. Speaking of dirty, they present you with a dry compressed soapy towel that they pour some water on, which makes it open up so you can use it to clean your dirty-ass-Delco hands off with. Yay for clean hands! I started off with the "Crispy Rice Tuna Roll" ($18). I've never had anything like this before. It was delicious! I would go back again just for more of it. The bottom half had the consistency of a rice crispy treat, but without all the sugary taste to go with it. The top was tuna, which seemed to be ground up, with whatever delicious yum stuff they topped it off with. I want more. "Bluefin Pepper Roll" ($24) Made with pepper tuna and avocado rolled inside, topped with bluefin tuna with pepper sauce. Everything was fresh. I would buy again. "Atlantic City Roll" ($21) Made with tuna, salmon, yellowtail & scallion roll inside, topped with tuna and wasabi tobiko glazed in honey wasabi mayo. Just like the other roll, it was fresh and I would try it again in the future. "A5 Wagyu Rib Cap" ($52) It came with wine infused sea salt, black pepper, yakiniku sauce, and a steaming hot stone for you to cook it on. This was expensive because of the type of beef, and the experience. I've had wagyu before, and this was really nothing special. If you want to impress a date or just try something different, I would say go ahead and order it. Otherwise, the value really isn't there. I'd spend that money on more sushi rolls instead. Or the crispy rice tuna! You basically take the fat they give you and rub it on the hot stone, then you put a piece of wagyu on it for about 5 seconds each side. Season it if you want. Eat it. Yay, there goes $52 Note* if you are someone who orders steaks medium or well done, (first, punch yourself in the face because you are wrong) I highly suggest staying the heck away from the wagyu! This is something that should be eaten almost raw, and is a complete waste of money if you overcook it. Anyway, it was a decent experience. I'd go back for the crispy rice tuna roll, but all the other stuff can be purchased for a little cheaper at other Japanese restaurants in the area. My total spent including tip was $150 (thanks, wagyu). If I do go again, which I probably will, I will not be buying the wagyu, and I might double up on the crispy rice tuna roll. Enjoy! read more

We wanted to try out this restaurant because a friend of a friend opened it. Lunch on a Friday did not require any reservations. Most dinners have been booked up especially during weekends without openings until after 8 PM. The hostess and our waiter Sam was very nice and super attentive. My yuzu drink "Bikini Bomb" was delicious. We by passed the lunch menu (which had a lot of great deals) and went straight for the good stuff. The roasted Bone Marrow Soup was so rich in flavor and umami. Every sip was so indulging. The A5 Hokkaido Wagyu was phenomenal. The Wagyu rib cap melted in your mouth. We cooked each side for a few seconds as recommended. For our sushi and sashimi, we ordered everything a la cart. The Ikura was very fresh. We wanted to try it with black rice. I really liked the black rice. It tasted in chewiness and was a healthier option. We had to try the Hiramasa since it was the name of the restaurant. It was delectable. The Madai was average. The uni did not taste as fresh. A little bitter aftertaste. What was not up to par was the regular white sushi rice. The rice was hard. Not cooked right. There are was no vinegar or sugar flavor. Those ingredients were not mixed in correctly. We told the manager (wearing a formal suit and small round glasses) and his response was, "Well, I did not make the rice, so." We were quite shocked at this response and still shocked to this today. Obviously for a newly opened restaurant, we thought this feedback would be helpful. I don't think the manager made anything we ordered, but maybe he could tell the staff who made the food? Quite inappropriate and unprofessional response. We were not trying to get a free dish or anything. Nonetheless, everything else was good. The ambiance was magnificent. They really put a lot of attention to all the fixtures and colors they chose. What I had: Bluefin tuna dinner. Solid quality tuna. I wonder if they source their tuna from Yama Seafoods (NYC). My only complaint is that I waited 20 minutes for the sake to come out. Their rationale - The bottle was sitting in the warehouse and it needed to be cooled. First, sake (especially if it is a premium bottle) should be stored between 5C/15C. Shouldn't take 20 minutes to cool from that temperature. My other complaint is that my 5 year old will not eat the salmon roe - which is one of her favorite foods. read more

It's '6 cuts' which already is 2 less than literally any sushi place out there. The size of the cuts is actually laughable; each slice is like half a normal slice, and you only get 6 total. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere. Came here with my wife with no idea of what to expect. The space feels upscale and the prices agree. Leber was a thoroughly enjoyable server with good recommendations. I enjoy Japanese food and know my way around a Japanese food menu. My only gripe was that I ordered Otoro Nigiri and was brought Otoro sashimi (although Otoro was not listed on the sashimi menu). Besides that, we were brought complimentary edamame along with wet folded towels. The plateware is stone and the soup spoon was delightfully weighty. The miso soup and house salad were as good as they can be. The wagyu beef gyoza were incredible. The City roll was a personal favorite, and my wife enjoyed the Bluefin Pepper roll. She also enjoyed the Hamachi and Suzuki sashimi. The sake menu is extensive, but I had the lycheetini which was refreshing. Overall it was a great experience with good food and clear effort put into the dishes and presentation. If you're looking for a relatively upscale Japanese restaurant, I would recommend Hiramasa. Ambiance in the newly opened establishment is warm, modern, has hints of elegance yet is quite loud. I was only there to pick up a to-go sushi & sashimi order but the staff seemed abundant bustling quickly through the restaurant. While the sushi & sashimi (1 price p/order) were fresh, full of flavor and well prepared the cost was much higher than other establishments near by including one owned by the same owner. My wife and I were greeted warmly entering and offered a table for our approval. Beautiful atmosphere of soft lighting, warm colors, spacious and comfortable booth seating. All served in a timely fashion. We began sharing a Ginger Garden salad, enough for us both. When we ordered the Seafood Paella, he warned of the heat and spice, so informed we ordered Chilean Sea Bass over risotto and marinated for 72 hours. Delicious and a large enough serving to share. The Signature roll: Anniversary is their creation, also enough to share and delicious. Many thanks to Jason as our liaison to the chef in knowing the food and menu so well. Thanks to the Chefs for creative fusion Japanese food. We visit here to see family annually from our home of nearly 50 years SF Bay area where we have been eating great Japanese food. Two and half hours later (with at least an hour wait for entrees and a round of drinks- which we had to go to the bar to inquire what was taking so long) our bill arrived. We were charged for ice cubes and they automatically added a 20% tip. For what? Service was terrible though it appeared more of a management issue than a server issue. Given their instagram postings, I expected Hiramasa at Newtown Square to be more like Hiroki or Morimoto. The photos and videos on Instagram that the restaurant features would lead one to think that, and so do the menu prices. It was far from that. It's all pretty photos and videos on Instagram but poor food quality and customer service in person. It's all for show. Skip this place and go to Philly instead for good and authentic Japanese food. The worst thing about the whole experience is that the kitchen did not stagger the 8 dishes ordered and thus brought them out all at once. They did not wait for 1 to be consumed before bringing out the other. There was no room on the table for all of them. We tried the oysters right away but they tasted bad because of the bad uni. We eat oysters all the time. Then had to set oysters aside because the dishes kept coming. My husband had to hold the giant serving dish of the Toro Tartare in his hand because there was no room on the table. Instead of enjoying the food, we had to eat as fast as possible so the food did not go bad waiting on the table and to make room on the table so we could stop holding dishes on our hands. In addition to the poor service, the food quality was also not good. The rice was hard and not cooked right. The bad uni ruined 3 dishes, costing us $118. The toast on the Furrikake Bone Marrow was also bad (see below), ruining a $21 dish. A $10 chilled wine arrived warm. My husband was too nice to return his over sweet cocktail of $13. So really $152 of the $411.51 was a complete waste of money. I wish I could get my money back. I booked a 7pm anniversary dinner for 7/19/2025 but the experience was VERY FAR from special. To start, our server had no idea it was our anniversary and did not acknowledge it at all at any point during our stay. I know some restaurants send complementary glasses of wine or champagne or maybe a complementary dessert or maybe just write "Congratulations" or "Happy Anniversary" on the dessert plate. There was none of that. No little thing from the restaurant to help us celebrate the occasion and we spent over $400 there. The dining experience started with a bowl of edamame that was so sweetly seasoned that my husband and I couldn't have any of it and we LOVE edamame and were starving! I had been looking forward to trying the cocktails from their photos on Instagram. Despite asking which cocktails were the least sweet, the 2 cocktails we got were so sweet I couldn't drink mine despite trying multiple times and had to send it back. The restaurant still included it on the bill. I had to ask for it to be removed at the end. I ended up ordering a white sparkling white that arrived un-chilled. I wasn't very drinkable as it was warm but I still drank it because I felt bad sending back a second drink. My husband also drank his as he also felt bad sending his back. Neither of us enjoyed our drinks. We ordered sake in the hope it was better than the cocktails. We were so excited about the restaurant that we wanted to experience a variety of its menu offerings. We ordered the following: 1. 2 Cocktails at $13 each (paid for just the 1 $13 cocktail) - way too sweet, even when ordering the least sweet cocktails 2. De Perriere Brut $10 - arrived room temp when it's supposed to be chilled 3. House Sake $14 - Ordered chilled. It was ok. 4. Furrikake Bone Marrow $21 - Toast was greasy and thus difficult to consume the dish as it was too heavy when consumed with the marrow, which was over-salted itself. The toast needed to not be buttered or oiled to balance out the bone marrow. 5. Toro Tartare $18 - Not amazing, just ok. 6. Wagyu Uni Caviar (2 pieces at $16 each) - Uni was bad and thus gave bad taste to the whole item and ruined it which was disappointing as it was so expensive for such a bite of food at $16 each. 7. Uni Toro Caviar (2 pieces at $16 each) - Uni was bad and thus gave bad taste to the whole item and ruined it which was disappointing as it was so expensive for such a bite of food at $16 each. 8. Otoro Caviar (2 pieces at $16 each) - Not amazing, just ok. 9. Oysters De-You Half Dozen $24 plus Caviar $15 plus Uni $15 - The uni was bad and the bad uni taste ruined the whole dish so it was a complete waste of $54 spent on the half dozen oysters. I felt bad sending back a $54 dish but it was inedible. 10. A5 Miyazakigyu, Japan, Stripped Loin $58 - The meat was good but the 2 salts and 1 sauce served with it were all bad.
