First of all I didn't realize Hiranos had a location on the southside. Super convenient! I walked in and was immediately greeted by the young lady at the counter. There were 2 people sitting at separate tables and one person at the bar. It was earlier in the day when I stopped by and there is a hurricane looming so it makes sense for the lack of customers at the time. I browsed the menu for a few minutes and settle on the 2 meat lunch special. The price was reasonable but the portion was slightly small even for a lunch special. The chicken was under seasoned and there was barely any shrimp. I also ordered sushi which was delicious. Overall my visit was good. Nothing spectacular. I'd be willing to come back and try other sushi items and see how they do with a regular entree. read more

A nice little restaurant near the Armstrong campus of GSU. The food was flavorful, quick to make and affordable. The inside needs a little TLC but the meal hit the spot. We enjoyed the teriyaki bowls and the potstickers. Not a bad place to get a quick hot lunch when you only have a short lunch break. read more

Off Day? Pretty small take out portions for the price. We were disappointed since we have eaten (inside) here several times in this past. There was a good amount of rice with half the amount of chicken that we have usually received. Just didn't understand what happened with the food. Just found this place so awesome!! It's small and cozy but the food is amazing. My son begged to go back the next day lol. We had the shrimp dumplings, shrimp and chicken yakisoba, and the spider roll and crunchy roll. All delicious!! This is a new favorite for us. read more

AVOID!!! Hot. Dirty, Rude Mexican wait staff. Had long wait when only one other table had customers. I was ripped off on lunch special pricing. Sushi is below average. These people may seem 'rude' because they are not native to the southern coastal Ga way. If you knew the family who started this business, you would know that they are nice people who have worked VERY hard coming to America and starting a wonderful Japanese eatery. The food is amazing, the kitchen staff or wait staff might be busy and foreign but that does not mean this is a bad place. If you don't like the vibe at the Southside location, try the Habersham one. If there is a negative star, this place would deserve it. I mistook this place for the other Hirano on Habersham, and the waitress told me different owners. I always order eel sushi which is one of my favorites, they told me they didn't sell that anymore because it wasn't popular. How can eel sushi never be popular?? Then I order soft shell crab, they told me they were out of it. Then I order the Philly roll, which i thought was smoked salmon with cheese (says it on the menu & waitress recommended it to me). Boy was it a surprise, the salmon was very raw. The waitress kept telling me it was already cooked. I know what smoke salmon looks like because I usually order it. So, I didn't complain anymore, and started to chew my food, couldn't chew it because it was gliding down my esophagus like I was eating my own flesh. On top of it, they left some remaining avocado skin in the sushi.. They were also very stingy with their ginger, only giving me a tiny pieces when i kept ordering extra ginger 3 times. Overall, the service lacks to the other popular Hirano. Many popular items were missing on the sushi menu. Plus the decor was cheap, dirty, and tacky. I will not be coming here again.. read more

This place is small and old and pretty much serves the local area and the university across the street. It could be cleaner, but I eat there once a week and am never disappointed. For the price, best place to grab lunch on the south side! Get there before noon or you might have to wait for a table to open up. My biggest complaint is during the summer it gets pretty warm inside. I have eaten $20 hibachi grill plates at restaurants... This $6 chicken teriyaki plate is much better! I had the most horrific experience today. i received my Shrimp and fried rice entrée. and realized an odor seeping from my DAMNNNNN rice . Like i brought it back and the tried to inform me that the rice wasnt sour but was made that morning. and i ordered at 5 pm. i asked for it to be remade. instead the scooped out some of the sour rice and topped it with white steamed rice. This restaurant is a family ran that serves up good food at good prices. If you go in looking for an entertainment style Japanese experience, you will be disappointed. If you go in looking for good food at a good price... In a local owned and operated place, you are in the right spot. I grab dinner here weekly and have never been disappointed. Most of the time I even leave with food left over for a lunch! I would much rather pay fair prices than pay for the atmosphere. I have even came to enjoy some sushi after trying things slowly over the years bc of reasonable priced items. Overall, I give this place the thumbs up! I have gone here and they are my favorite Steak House in Savannah but they close early sometimes and it makes it difficult to get there.

This place is a disaster. What was once a nice little teriyaki/sushi place is filthy, has no service and started cleaning with harsh smelling bleach and oven cleaner while we were still eating. Our table was right next to the grill. It was 10 minutes to 9. Not quite closed but that didn't stop them from ruining our dinner. read more

The food is not very good. I would say the best thing on their menu is the fried oysters and that's about it. The fried rice tastes weird and the yakisoba tastes weird. The service is okay. Other than that though I would not recommend this place. read more

Walked in and tried to sit at 3 different tables and we're covered with soda and soy sauce. Floor hasn't been mopped in awhile. Shoes would stick to the floor. Turned around and left. If u can't even wipe off a table how can u expect the sushi to be any good. read more

The food was ok, but the service was painfully slow. They prioritize takeout over sit down. So our quick lunch took 40 min. to receive while approximately a dozen takeout orders were filled. Finally had to take lunch to go instead. read more

Well worth a visit for the food. When first entering Hirano's Southside Savannah location the environment may strike one as sparse, however the food is not. A summer Teriyaki chicken special was very tasty and cooked fresh on the grill for us. The woman serving us was very attentive and I would have floated away if she had refilled my drink anymore! Absolutely love this place! Family that owns it is very hard working. I like that they don't take rudeness. So if you feel the need to be ugly don't be offended when its dished back. The staff is great. For it being so small they handle everything smoothly. If you've never been a server then you'll never understand how they feel when trying to be nice to people who are purposely running them and want all the attention for themselves. I have never been so disrespected by a manager of a business. We have been going to hiranos basically 3 or 4 times a month. I took a few sips of my girlfriends coke and I had a water. The manager at check out said she would charge me next time I did it. I reminded her we come in 4 times a month and she said she didn't care! Even pointing fingers at me and giving us bad looks. I told her we will go somewhere else and she said fine. She just lost 2 good customers over ten cents of coke. On a side note try cleaning your ceilings and dust off that pig figurine that sits next to the grill which has had the same dust ever since we started eating there.
