First time trying anything raw and I have to admit, I'm super impressed with what I had, along with a few go-to rolls (Bīto Maki 2.0, Cowgirl, Crunchy Cabbage, Super Asparagus) & charred edamame. New to me: Tuna Tataki, Philadelphia (Raw), and Ceviche. All of these were absolutely delicious! For the ceviche, we opted to have the spicier togarashi on the side--I added a sprinkling to a bite--yum, but am glad it was on the side! Kyla was our server and she was great; she explained the menu and was knowledgeable about the foods on the menu. We were celebrating a birthday--I had made reservations via Open Table--it was nice they added a card from the staff for the birthday Mom! We went Monday during lunch and it was nice because it wasn't too crowded and we could carry on a conversation easily. Wow!!! The place was busy on this early Friday night. We walked in and were told there's a 1.5-hour wait!! I spotted a couple of empty chairs in the bar area so we quickly grabbed those and ordered drinks. It was still happy hour so we ordered a couple of appetizers as well. The place was lively and packed with hungry guests like us. We kept ordering 2 items at a time so it was a little crazy to see a $200 bill in the end. Lol. It was all worth it. Our server was very attentive and wasn't fazed by the business of his area. I recommend the Cherry Bomb, Cloud Nine 2.0 and the Spanish Fly. Calamari was just okay. The food - Very well done. The sushi was very good; however, it was nothing fantastic. At the cost of a roll, it should be able to wow the audience. I love sushi, and places like this tend to increase the price while not giving any additional value. Which drives up the price of the dish across the area. Food gets 3.5 stars for being good but not great. Service - Oh, wow. We had the friendliest waiter... that knew nothing about sushi, the restaurant, cocktails, or how to use his handheld machine... which he forgot at our table not once... not twice... yep... three times. - maybe a 3-star on the high end? Ambiance - The place is not uncomfortable... and they do have some neat things on the walls. But there is no sound dampening in the building, and dinner time was pretty noisy. The comfy seats, though, still give a well-rounded atmosphere - so 4.25 stars for ambiance. Loss of most stars is to a bar that can't make a good Old Fashioned. Went to Blue Sushi during Restaurant Week, which was a great deal and a fun way to try a variety of items from the menu. The cucumber (comber) appetizer was excellent--fresh, well-seasoned, and a great start to the meal. The sushi rolls were very delicious, with the Thriller roll being the standout and my personal favorite. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The ambience was great as well. Dessert was solid as well--we had the chocolate spring rolls, which were a nice, sweet way to end the meal. The only downsides were the drinks and service. The cocktails didn't taste like they had much liquor, and service was very slow--we had to ask for things multiple times before receiving them. That said, it was a busy weekend, so it was understandable. Overall, great food and a good Restaurant Week experience. I'd definitely come back, especially for the sushi. read more

I mostly visit for Happy Hour sushi on Sundays. The value for these sushi rolls is tough to beat. I recommend reservations just in case, but it might not always be necessary. The service is always great, but it seems like there's always a delay in "back of house." Some visits the sushi is delayed, and on some visits the hot food is delayed. It's official: we love Blue Sushi! The service and food are top notch and we were pleasantly surprised by how well taken care of we were. Some menu highlights: the house marg, miso soup, maguro nigiri and lion king roll. I arrived first and got seating for 7 (even though only 5 showed up). There was no wait and the staff were super accommodating. I started with the Samurai Saketini-cucumber infused vodka, unfiltered sake, and lime. This cocktail was so refreshing. It would be lovely on a hot summer day or evening. I definitely recommend. The water they serve also had a little cucumber slice in it. Super nice touch. We ordered a variety of shareables and rolls so I got to try quite a few things. One member in our party has a shellfish allergy and the staff was so accommodating. They seriously went above and beyond to make sure that she wouldn't have a reaction. Super impressed. Back to food, we tried the mango crab rangoon-crab mix, mango, cream cheese, served with mango and Fresno pepper sauces. It was good. They use imitation crab so no allergy concerns with this dish. We got a few orders of the crispy rice cakes-topped with bigeye tuna and tataki sauce. I loved these! It was a nice little appetizer and got me in the mood for some sushi. We also ordered the lettuce wraps- sautéed all-natural chicken breast with garlic, ginger, cashews & peanut sauce, served with butter lettuce cups, cucumber sunomono, sesame noodles, carrots, crispy rice noodles & sweet chili sauce. These were gorgeous and so delicious and fresh. I would again order this on a return visit. Finally rolls. I ordered the Philadelphia-raw salmon, cream cheese, scallion, cucumber. Again, deliciousness. Fresh. No complaints. You can opt for smoked salmon instead. I did try a bite of the California roll and the Lion King. Both delicious. At our table a few people ordered salads, I ordered lettuce wraps and the rest ordered sushi. The dishes were brought to our table one at a time as the kitchen made them, as opposed to be serving as a table all at once. The people with the salads had to awkwardly waiting over 15 minutes for the rest of the table to get their food. The lettuce wraps were just okay. We sat in the bar and we were kind of confused the whole time who was taking care of us, we ordered our food pretty quick and were told it would be difficult for her to bring our sushi out at the same time. Not a big deal. I got my food and was waiting for my friend to get hers, it took 20-30 minutes for her food to come out. Not once did someone stop and give us an update and half of the time we were sitting there our drinks were empty. I even had a server walk by and make fun of me for yawning? Really weird. It wasn't a particularly busy night, the bar was completely empty by the time we were finished with our appetizer so at the very least someone could have checked on us or FILLED OUR DRINKS. We used to live near here and would come occasionally over the years. Life has changed and with two small kids and a new neighborhood, we forgot about it but I have to say our recent visit was great! One of the surprise highlights? Their kids menu. They have little kids bento boxes that come with berries, a choice of protein (one got salmon, the less adventurous eater got chicken tenders) and edamame. My kids tore through it, and even casually ate up all of the calamari appetizer (I was shocked.) In a sea of fries + burger kids combos, this was so welcome and we will return on that alone. But other improvements since we had last been here were how quickly the sushi rolls came out. When they were new, it took longer than anticipated, but this is more finely tuned now. I enjoyed both rolls; a spicy tuna and a "Lion King" with crab, cucumber, avocado, eel sauce and a chili aioli. We were here on a Sunday which is all-day happy hour; the prices will remind most of a regular restaurant in the before times. Very fair overall. I showed my server the Yelp check in offer they have up for free edamame and they did not honor it, which isn't that big of a deal but I do suggest that they remove it just to avoid the confusion. I didn't take pictures of the interior but it was beautiful. I started with the shishito peppers. They were flavorful and cooked to the perfect texture. I also ordered the just shrimp tempura maki and the itchy salmon. The shrimp tempura was your basic shrimp tempura. It was good but nothing spectacular.
