Went here for my daughter's birthday dinner tonight. Sushi was good according to my family. Service needs some work as our wait time was quite long based on what we ordered. My wife's food and mine were not very good considering what we ordered. I ordered combo yakisoba and she had Mongolian beef. I have never had so sweet Japanese/Chinese food for dishes that are not normally served as dessert. I got the chicken yakisoba instead of what I ordered. Server still offered me a takeout box even after I told her that my food was too sweet. When bill arrived, my incorrect order was still on the bill and an automatic gratuity was added - guess that 6 people mandates automatic gratuity. Won't be a return customer! read more

They have discontinued a favorite signature dinner dish ( the bbq short ribs korean style) that I always order and while the floor manager assure me that I can still order as I've explain to the host earlier today but was told that they can't or won't honor even though its on their menu as an appetizer. Thats really too bad I can no longer recommend people going there to try this excellent signature dish! read more

Hiro does NOT care about my business. I typically can't complain much about Hiro because the food is normally pretty great but today I experienced something that was completely jaw-dropping. I was dining with several coworkers and had a pretty decent meal. At the end of lunch, someone tried to use an expired daily deal. Our understanding was that bargain price is no longer valid but the purchase price was redeemable for expired Daily Deals (so the expired $30 deal was worth $15 - the amount originally paid). Frankly, i didn't and still don't care if my coworker saved the money. The problem lies with the manager, John Horvatinovich. My coworker tried arguing her case about the daily deal which I'll admit was probably annoying, however John's lack of patience and condescending attitude was embarrassing. John informed us that the "five minutes spent listening to our complaining, could have been better served with other customers." Brother you haven't seen complaining!! In my younger years, I would have taken sport in humiliating John loudly in front of the other customers but instead I sat back and soaked it all in while my coworkers handled their issue. John, I hope you or your owners are reading this review. Everyone dining at our table is a successful sales professional. We have spent thousands of dollars in your restaurants between happy hours, lunches, holiday events and entertaining clients in the backroom. I live near Pana88 and Hiro88 and wrote a previous positive review. You totally blew it today. You weren't wrong by saying you didn't think the daily deal was still valid, again I honestly would not have cared if you hadn't honored their coupon. My issue isn't about assessing right or wrong with regard to coupons. My issue is with your behavior and how you spoke to my colleagues. Your poor attitude and the example you set for your employees are not very deserving of a management title in any organization. I'm a Sales Director, my job heavily revolves around customer service. The five minutes of time that you "wasted" with my table cost you far more than a $15 daily deal. We were loyal customers and we dine out EVERY day of the work week and we happy hour almost as much. As we were leaving, my coworker stated that we should have gone to Blue Sushi instead. John your comment to "enjoy Blue next time" just solidifies the fact that you truly don't get it. If you had chosen to just keep your smart little mouth closed, we would have come back regardless of the outcome of the coupon. Instead, you acted like a jerk and that is a direct reflection of how people choose to view Hiro. I was only an observer in this situation but as a witness, this was off-putting enough that I will not return until you accept responsibility for your mistake and apologize. I DO NOT want a free meal. I want you to recognize that you acted like an immature child and that you treated my coworkers with disrespect. If you or your management choose not to reply to this message, it makes no difference to me. I'm confident that your restaurant does well enough that you probably don't need my money but when the five of us tell five of our friends, it will eventually translate to thousand dollars each year, which could eventually negatively affect your salary. I hope you learn from this experience. In your line of work, you don't always know who is observing your behavior whether it be customers or your employees. I'm confident as a manager, you would have reprimanded another employee for conducting themselves the way you did. John, even if the customer isn't always right, you need to treat them with respect. What a disappointing lunch that was. We have gone to this location multiple times with our office and have spent lots of money over the last few years with company lunches, birthday lunches, and take out lunches for our office. Today we went with an expired Groupon. We were told that they would honor the amount spent on the Groupon, but not the full amount since it was expired. No issue with that, the Groupon was expired so it made sense. When it came time to pay, our server told us they would not honor the Groupon. After telling him they should, he went to get someone else. Next, a guy named John came over. Without introducing himself, he very rudely told us that they will not honor it. We told him that Groupon let us know that restaurants honor expired Groupons for the purchased amount ($15), but not the full amount ($30). He walked away for a while as we talked about how surprised we all were that he was being so short with us. He came back and tried to argue with us again, saying he was doing us a huge favor by honoring it. He also told us that the reason they don't like Groupons is because "This issue took 5 minutes of my time that could have been spent with other customers." We were shocked. Nobody knew how to respond, so I said "Well, we certainly didn't mean to inconvenience you with our business today." He responded with "Well, as I was saying before all of you started complaining was that we don't honor Groupons. . . " I interrupted him and said "Actually, I think you might be making this situation worse, can we just have our checks?" He said "I think you're right, why don't you pay so you can be on your way!" WOW. We all just sat with our jaws dropped. He walked away with our tabs. While he was away my boss talked about how much money we have spent here and how none of us had ever been talked to like that. We talked about Hiro vs. Blue and how the service and food is better and if we are going to be treated like this, we'll just go there next time. John came back with our tabs to sign with no apology or any attempt to make things right. He simply dropped them off and walked away. As we all got up to leave, John glared at me with an angry scowl from the host stand. Was he trying to stare me down?? I walked right up to him and said "Excuse me, are you the manager here?" He said very confidently, "Yes, I am." I said, "Could I have your card?" He said "Yep, here you go. Enjoy your next lunch at Blue!" My boss said "Did he just tell us to enjoy our next lunch at Blue?" Yes. Yes he did. We walked out still amazed that someone would treat customers like that, and he was the MANAGER. I will never go back to this location and it would take a lot for me to even spend money at Hiro again, even though I love the downtown location. We used to have large company lunches at Hiro out west, but my boss was so angry I know we will never give them business again. I still can't believe he said "Enjoy your next lunch at Blue!" I liked the sushi here. It was very tasty. I have been on a sushi binge for the last few months so I have had better sushi but most of the places I have been to are in the San Francisco bay area. The restaurant was very clean and the waiters are very attentive. The best part about this place is that they have 1/2 off sushi bar after 9 or 10 pm on friday and saturday. For those of you who have never been here, they don't serve anything else except for sushi during their 1/2 off sushi hours. read more

Hiro is not cheap, but good sushi rarely comes cheap. I would recommend Hiro to anyone who wants really good, fresh sushi. I have not tried anything else on the menu (always too full to try anything else) so I can't comment there, but between Hiro and Maru Sushi my sushi cravings are covered. read more

One of the best sushi places in Omaha - hands down. Which really is saying a lot (for all you nay-says who say Omaha can't have great sushi.) But the cost can add up fast (although totally worth it). For some cost-saving, check out their 'happy hour' at 10pm Friday and Saturday nights. Half price sushi and drinks - as well as some appetizers. Try the Husker Roll and the No Name Sake. After reading all the reviews we decided to stop in. Sushi was mushy. There's no other way to say it. The fish had no flavor. I don't know how this became the popular sushi place in town, it must be the trendy interior and the drink menu and happy hour specials. This is worse than all you can eat or hyvee sushi. About as Nebraska as sushi can get. We left the majority of the order uneaten and upset we didn't just go to our usual, much more authentic, Sushi Japan. What a total waste of money. We've been going to their happy hour for over 5 years. Tonight I placed a to go order, they got part of it wrong. I called to tell them that I would go back to pick up the right order. The hostess hung up on me twice. When I got I hold of her again she said that "it wasn't her problem". Once I spoke to her manager, John, he also got an attitude with me. Went for Valentine's Day yesterday, and found the food good, but service lacking. It took almost an hour for the food to arrive after we ordered it, and our waiter seemed pretty aloof, and would leave the floor for long periods of time. The hostesses and waitstaff also pretty openly vented about their day to each other, and seemed somewhat unprofessional. This aside, the food was okay, but this is very Americanized Asian food. Food is good but management is bad. Ordered carry out on New Years Eve through the eat 24 app. Went to pick it up and for whatever reason they did not have our order ready to go, the manager that night got us our food in 10 minutes and told us she would take care of the bill for us. This to me was excellent customer service! As the days went by our account still had not been credited back the cost of our meal. My girlfriend called today and manager "Joe" said he will not refund us. His reasoning being NYE is a busy day and that the manger from that night no longer works for them, but hey here's a free appetizer...no sir at this point it's not about the money or free food it's about your lack of customer service! I had to try this place as I hear there is a huge debate over Hiro vs. Blue. Blue wins hands down in my book. I say this because the sushi selection at Hiro was rather boring and Blue has such a wide variety of fun different rolls. Also I ordered 3 rolls and two soft drinks for lunch and the bill was darn near $40. Blue has better prices and tastier sushi. read more

4th or 5th time at Hiro on 129th. Always good, but tonight was the best yet for me. My dinner tonight was was not just about the food which was very satisfying, it was about the service. I would like to thank our server Jordan, who was very attentive and quick. She made sure we were satisified without being annoying or fake. Just friendly. Highlight was the salad, as I love carrot ginger dressing. Sushi was kind of expensive, and not worth the price in my opinion. Lots of rice, but not a whole lot of fish. Spicy salmon roll had hardly any spice to it, none that I could taste at least. Overall we just felt underwhelmed by the meal. You're better off at Tokyo downtown or Hutong in La Vista. My husband and I had never gone to Hiro 88 before, so we figured we would give it a shot. We ordered calamari and the gyoza (dumplings) as appetizers. Those tasted fabulous, but the calamari was in huge not-chopstick-friendly chunks. Our soup was brought out *after* the meal, which was weird, and the waitress apologized, but a simple check to see that we had our soup would have been nice. Our waitress was not all that attentive. My entree was lukewarm by the time I started on it. My husband enjoyed his Usagi (sp?) Don, which was eel over sushi rice, and a large portion of it. My shrimp yaki soba left much to be desired, however. The shrimp were like little flavorless balls of rubber, and the noodles were meh. I love yaki soba (I get it all the time at Sakura Bana, which is a marvelous Japanese restaurant), so I was very disappointed. And we both found it strange that a place where it's easily a $60 meal (for two people) didn't box the leftovers for us...just deposited a Styrofoam box and walked away. Husband wanted another refill of his soda, but did not get it. Never was offered dessert, so I have no idea if they serve it or not. I cannot comment on the sushi, as we did not order any, but we left agreeing that we will likely not eat here again any time soon, even though we live close by. If you go, I can recommend the hot appetizers and the green tea. read more

My waiter unintentionally kept me laughing throughout the night. After he bragged that they served hon-wasabi (legitimate grated wasabi root which I've never seen it served outside of Japan) I requested omakase. The waiter and his ultra hip haircut looked at me with a blank, clueless smile and left only to return with an older lady who I guessed was the owner. Long story short, I re-requested omakase and the older lady said that I would have to sit at the sushi bar to order that (I don't see why, I've ordered chefs special from tables before at much higher quality sushi eateries... why not here. I ended up ordering over $100 worth of plates. The only things that stuck out were the people next to me attempting to enjoy nigiri with chopstick and that the anago tasted more like unagi (probably was). Also, the waiter put a twenty percent gratuity on the tab without consulting my party. HA! In closing, I wasn't impressed. High prices for far from fresh fish. Like I said above, the waiter was rude and condescending when he wasn't being inadvertently humorous. OH, and the wasabi wasn't legit like the waiter said. we go about once a month and the food quality is high and consistent. Wife who doesn't like sushi loves the peanut butter chicken and try a variety of the sushi but favorite is wasabi stinger. The wait staff has been there a long time and are very friendly and attentive. The owner is always there and is pleased to great her customers making them feel wanted (unlike another nearby sushi place that makes me feel blue about their fondness of customers). read more

Went for the first time to Hiro on west Maple last night. Service and food were both terrible. Old Market seems to be a different story. Perhaps the owners should spend some time out west?! Tonight was a phenomenal date night for us young married folk. If you can score Eric or even Sammy as your server, I don't think you can go wrong. They both walked around having fun with their jobs and big smiles on their faces. Such a joy and pleasure to have Eric help us with a great "experience". We don't get to have dates that often, so it's a big deal when we really walk away bragging about the wonderful night out. Eric was fun, interactive, and had some excellent recommendations. This was our second visit total, the first of which we were somewhat satisfied, mainly from the lack of food direction, and not the best of server. I'm so glad we took advantage of a groupon for a second chance! This will be a great place to come back to when one of these guys are working. Food was phenomenal with making recommendations based on our preferences and even taking a few risks. So worth it! Blue sushi has nothing on this place if you're looking for a great ambiance, fun people, and phenomenal food. During the week would be our personal preference to go.
