The food here was first-rate. Let me start by saying that much. The problem is that our service was sub-par. The server interrupted us, walked away while we were trying to ask for drinks and appetizers, and literally talked to one of the memers of our party's breasts the entire evening. At the end of the evening, he added an arbitrary 18% gratuity to our bill, after the crappy service. We disputed the tip, of course, and left him far less than 18%. He followed us out the door, yelling obscenities, such as "Do I look like a f**** bartender?" and "You leave ten f**** percent? At a five star f*** restaurant?!" and flipping us off. The two males in our party spoke calmly to him, but he had to be dragged back inside by management and other staff. neeless to say, I can't recommend this place, despite the good food, and I know I, for one, won't be going back. We usually go for the sushi, but have tried some of the other dishes (chicken teriyaki, vegetable lo mein, black miso cod), those are tasty too. Definitely not the best experience for our first time there. We are regular, frequent Blue patrons but decided to mix it up this time. Big mistake. The server was less than helpful. She had the "I could care less if you are here attitude" which is the worst thing a server can do. The food took far too long to be delivered. When we asked her about it. Her response was "they are rolling yours now" Two tables were delivered food after her comment that were also seated and ordered after us. Her next response was" We have alot of to go orders. The food was finally delivered by a "manager". He apologized for the delay. Someone at our table stated it was a very long delay. He also just said "We have alot of to go orders" Keep in mind, we had a clear view of the only entrance. Not once did anyone come in to pick up a to go order while we were there. Do they have a secret alley pick up window? Once we were finished. The "server" came to the table a asked "One check?". Not can I get you another drink or anything else. Hiro 88 is a well-known Japanese restaurant in the Omaha area. The restaurant is beautiful, and although sometimes it can get a bit noisy inside, the atmosphere is enjoyable. They also offer seating outside, I often prefer to sit outside during the summer. They offer a large menu of many different sushi options as well as many other soups, salads, and appetizers. I'm a little picky about sushi (I grew up in the Bay Area), but I found that they do have rolls that tasted fresh and delicious. The servers don't just take your order and leave, they chat with you and make sure that you receive everything you need. The restaurant is beautiful, and they have a very large bar. The one negative comment I have is that the wait time for a table can get ridiculously long, so be prepared. Hiro is wonderful. My husband and I have a tradition of going there for our anniversary because of the great atmosphere and GREAT sushi. No, it's not cheap, but for the quality and atmosphere, it's appropriate. Somtimes the waiters seem a little, ummm... giggly/young/silly which doesn't really seem to fit, but I'm willing to forgive. That is probably the worst I thing I could say. Excellent sushi. Our party of seven ordered a few rolls & the salmon & yellow tail (yum)sashimi. The tenderloin roll was interesting, but I prefer raw fish & doubt I'll order it again. I had the braised scallop dinner, which was good. The problem was the service. After we enjoyed sushi, the table was cleared & we were given rice and one of our party received his meal while the rest of us waited. 15 minutes later, one more plate arrived. 10 minutes later the rest of us were served. My food could have been warmer. We all agreed the food was good, but not warm enough & should have arrived all at once. I had the most delicious meal at Hiro 88 recently. The vegetables, meat and rice were so fresh. Our waitress was exceptional - she knew the menu front-to-back, and made excellent recommendations. The food was decent but the HIGHLY disappointing part of our dining experience was that the owner's wife sat down with a loud table next to us and proceeded to talk politics loudly to an uncomfortable degree. My wife and I exchanged glances with the table next to us and we rolled our eyes. We even politely asked our waitress to ask the table to keep it down which is then when we were informed about the owner's wife sitting there so we just had to put up with it. Lackluster. There is not much to report about about Hiro considering everything they say that they are. Decent Chinese food is met with inconsistent quality of fish, and the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. On my last visit, this past summer, my waiter S**** did not bring the correct orders to my table, was very hard to find, and added a twenty percent gratuity onto a eighty-five dollar tab. I have also read other reviews of this very same waiter accosting patrons in the parking lot for the very same situation (adding too much gratuity to the check). Sounds like this guy is a problem. I've given the establishment [too] many shots. They have yet to live up to their hype. Hiro is trying to be too many things that they are not. Claiming five stars is a joke at this point. If you want flash and good fish, like Hiro thinks they are, go to Sushi Blue a few blocks away. If you want true, authentic sushi, go to Sakura Bana (formally Sushi Ichiban) in mid town. I would of gave two stars for the awesome Mongolian beef but the cockiness of the staff ruined everything. read more

I have eaten at Hiro 88 twice now. Once for dinner and once at Lunch this weekend for my Birthday. I'm not big into Sushi so I just stuck with a drink and a dish off of the Chinese part of the menu. I had the Imperial Shrimp and it was fantastic! My boyfriend had the Imperial Chicken and he loved his dish as well. The portions didn't seem all that big at first, but by the time we finished lunch and one drink each, it was just about right. Our waitress was very friendly too. She didn't bother us too much,but made sure we were well taken care of. This will probably become one of my favorite places. read more

What a disappointment. We went to Hiro at 129th & Maple last week (early Dec 2014) to celebrate a family member's special birthday. The only thing positive I can say about the evening is despite bad food, poor service and a surly owner, we had a great time together because the meal became secondary and we shared our horrors as a group. Our food was bland, flavorless, tasteless and lacking any hint of something we would ever order again. One member of our party was served her entree cold and sent it back...not to see hide nor hare of her meal for another 40 minutes. Some of our guests were served, literally, 45 minutes before other members of the group. At one point we were told the restaurant had run out of forks, so they presented us with spoons to use to eat our food. We were even presented with dirty utensils to use as well. When we asked our server about the timing issues, he retrieved his manager, who said, "no excuses" then recited a litany of excuses. When we spoke to the owner about our complaints, she said smugly, "we are very busy tonight" as if being busy is an excuse for mistreating your customers. Sure, a restaurant can have a bad or off night, but there is absolutely no excuse for an owner to overlook her restaurants errors and problems. We have been to Hiro many, many times. None of us will ever go back. There are too many other choices for good food AND good service in Omaha to be so poorly treated. Bad food, bad service, bad experience add up to a terrible restaurant IMHO. read more

We occasionally order Milton's chicken from this restaurant and it is typically fantastic, however, we were disappointed when we did the same last night. It was not up to the restaurant's normal standards as the dish had an unknown "burnt" taste as though the wok was not properly cleaned even though it did not look burnt. In fact, it had some remnants of an unidentifiable substance that we had to pick out of the dish and set aside - likely something from another meal that did not belong in this dish. read more

If you're looking for authentic sushi come here, if you want classic American flavors I would recommend blue. The thing about hiro is if you order the right roll it's absolutely delicious. If you cheap out and go for the 4-5 dollar rolls you'll get something that tastes 4-5 dollars. If you're going to hiro get ready to ball. Spend that extra dollar on the Las Vegas or soft shell crab and you won't regret it. Along with that the drinks are ridiculously cheap and delicious during reverse happy hour. I would ALSO say get the spicy edamame; that is one of the best things on the menu. It's drenched in sauce and you get a huge quantity. To finish this review off I would say hiro is a great choice during happy hour if you're willing to spend more than 6 bucks. If not I would say take your business elsewhere. read more

Had great service but the sushi could have been better. Our 3 rolls were served hot, which isn't as appetizing when you are served raw fish somewhere around room temp or warmer. In my opinion raw fish should be served at the temp it's stored at. Probably won't be going back anytime real soon. Crab Rangoon and dumplings were good though.
