Was in my drafts and hadn't hit publish. Popped in here for an early dinner. Easy walk from my hotel. Ordered the gyoza, sushi, and a beer. Not freshly made tasted like premade frozen gyoza Hamachi was tender and portion size was decent, larger than Blue. Tuna was not fresh, hard not melt in your mouth as it should have been and had no taste. Like chewing an eraser. Tasty Stout. Bathrooms are a flashback to the 90's when black bathrooms were all the rage. Great tunes, upscale sushi bar. Service was good - I was the only person in the restaurant.

Excellent place for Sushi! Perfect spot for a Saturday! The bartender was very patient and kind!

Quite enjoyed my meal at Hiro. We didn't have reservations but we got in pretty much right away on a Monday night before Christmas which was great. My drink was very tasty and the edamame is always good. We got some gyoza too for an app and it was perfect to split between two people. It did take a rather long time to get our sushi (I fear they may have forgotten about us) but I got a west coast roll and a Columbia river roll and both tasted great!

Went for Lunch on a Saturday, parked on the street. Large Japanese restaurant, excellent service, lots of sushi selections and lunch options. Clean restaurant lots of seating. The food was pretty good for Japanese fare in the midwest. I enjoyed my lunch teishoku with teri salmon and tempura, generous portions.

Always a good time at Hiro!! Beautiful restaurant with amazing sushi. They're in a good location of down town with a cute outdoor patio. They also have a great happy hour menu!! I've never had a bad sushi roll here. The edamame was delicious as always. The cocktails were sweet and strong. Would highly recommend for sushi in Omaha

Hiro is a pretty safe bet for your sushi craving fulfillment. Our favorites are the salmon asparagus, sweet chili crab, spicy Brussels, and their house salad. Their staff is usually pretty helpful and able to answer Qs and make recommendations, and the space is versatile enough to handle your quick business lunch, date night, girls night crew, or even a party!

10/10 as always! This was my first time at the Jackson St location and it did not disappoint. Came around 4:40 on Friday. I got the Chicken Satay, sorry my is empty I forgot to take a pic before but it was AMAZING!!

I went with my girlfriend for our anniversary. The waitress was kind to us and accommodated our needs. My gf and I merely felt the menu was a bit underwhelming, compared to a few years ago when we last went. The salmon was good, along with the cheesecake that was sweet. The pork buns compared to some of the other spots we've been at didn't quite hit the mark for us, personally. We recommend maybe sticking with the sushi menu, and pairing it with the caramel cheesecake. The ambiance was alright, with low volume pop music. We walked here in the winter, though we did notice there was only street parking with some metered.

We went for happy hour and got a couple of sushi rolls and appetizers. Crab Rangoon, spicy edamame and fried dumplings. Our server was attentive. The restaurant had a recent renovation inside, nothing mayor, before you were able to see when cookers were preparing the sushi, now there is a glass to covering. I am not sure if I a like what they did or not, I feel it doesn't look as open as it used to

Food was good, but nothing impressive. The fried rice was the best out of all the things we ordered; it was on point and felt fresh. We also ordered salmon as an entree, but wasn't too tasty and was very simple. The sushi's weren't as good, specially the salmon one; the hiro crunch roll surprised me and was way better than the other one. Service was really good and the ambiance of the place is perfect for a dinner night.

Their reverse happy hour menu has so many great rolls on it. I've never had a roll here I didn't like. It's not the most upscale sushi, but I love it. The service is always fine at this location. They don't check in a lot, but I don't really mind that. The Bloody Mary also comes with a crab rangoon which is really cute.

We had a great time at Hiro 88. We went at around 8:45pm on Sunday evening. All day happy hour on Sundays. Large selection of apps and sushi. Started with the Korean short ribs which were fantastic will order every time we go moving forward. Ate them too fast to get a picture unfortunately. My wife got a cosmo that she said was very good. We had 5 different sushi rolls we enjoyed them all. With happy hour pricing got outta there for right at $50 before tip. Great deal on Sunday. The service was very friendly and attentive.

Stopped by on Sunday after the wait at Blue was too long. It was busy, but we got seated right away, and I liked the seating, packed but not squished together like how you feel at Blue. The sweet potato fries were different than expected but good. Service was slow about 45 minutes for food but it was a busy night. The sushi was great! I didn't love the Hawaiian poke, but the west coast roll and Hiro special were delicious. My mojito mix-up was disappointing. I ordered a classic mojito and got a mango one and didn't see the waitress for a while, but my boyfriend loved it, so we swapped, his cucumber-tini was amazing. Bonus all-day happy hour on Sundays! Overall not a bad experience.

From greeting to departure, we have felt welcome and appreciated. Not sucked-up-to. Appreciated. It's like they dig what they're doing. Feels great. This is doubly true for us when dining at the bar. We had a great conversation with the gent serving, and enjoyed him nearly as much as the meal. The fish. So fresh. So tasty. Soft. Perfectly cut. Mmm. Parking is pretty simple. Plenty of space behind the building. Chill neighborhood, too. Felt quite safe. At some point, I need to try some of the many other types of Japanese cuisine, Chinese cuisine, and Thai cuisine. They also have a pretty wide menu beyond sushi, including Thai and Chinese dishes, which is a nice if you're dining with people who want something different. The only downside for us is the location- it's a bit of a drive from where we are. Otherwise, we'd probably find ourselves going more often.

If you're feeling indulgent, splurge on the sake pairing as well to truly round out the experience. Service is always excellent and the hidden door entrance starts the night off right, letting you know from the start you are in for a treat. The food differs every time, but the foie gras rice starts it off every time and sets the stage for what's to come.

If you heard about a sushi omakase place in the middle of America, what would you think? I bet…read moreit's probably not fresh-tasting raw dishes or wow-level sushi omakase. But there is a James Beard-level recognized chef here, in Omaha, that is delivering fresh-tasting raw and other omakase dishes week after week - geography be damned. His name is David Utterback. It's incredibly difficult to get reservations at this eight-seat omakase called Ota. Moreso than any omakase in my hometown on an island in the middle of the Pacific. In fact, I dont think he needs this review - the best don't need to advertise. I also don't think we have a sushi chef here in Hawaii that is as nationally-acclaimed as Utterback. So we were very interested to try. And we were very lucky to get reservations. I dont think there is a parking lot for this restaurant, which is tucked within his also highly-regarded Yoshitomo restaurant. So if you from Hawaii like me, and get lucky with the reservations, gotta roll da dice on parallel street parking. That's code for come early ;) (parking is free in the area) W-h-e-n you do arrive at Yoshitomo, there is a small - hidden - waiting area within Yoshitomo where you will be asked to wait for the omakase to begin. The dark photo with the lantern and Ota sign is in that waiting room. - And frankly - That's all that needs to be shown in a photo cause the omakase course itself varies depending on chef's tastes and what's available that week. The courses we had will likely not be the entirety of the courses you have. But the rice might be the same. There is a special black vinegar that chef uses to add to the rice. Ask him about it. There is a whole story behind it ;) So my photos are small in number. They are the highlights of our experience and what stood out to me that is beyond anything I've tried in Hawaii or elsewhere (including the black-vinegar sushi rice) Enjoy - cause we most certainly did :)
