Sushi and More Stopped in after a walk in the 10-13th street area. It's hard to see inside from the outside, but once inside, it's got a nice atmosphere. I ordered the Teriyaki steak, with the salad. Both were good, and tasty. I also had their Yellowtail Tuna sushi, which had good presentation, and as always appreciated, good Wasabi. Looking for a way to satisfy my sushi fix in Omaha, Hiro 88 might be one way to do it. Two words of advice up front......."Happy Hour" Hiro 88 has a variety of difference Happy Hours throughout the week. Get your sushi fix during one of them and save 20-40 % on the rolls and such. Sunday is all day Happy Hour. If I hadn't gone during this time, my bill would have probably been over $100.00......told you I needed a fix. Anyhow, the inside of Hiro 88 is trendy, all black and crome. Music in the background grated on my nerves only once....some type of "punk/scream" which was not conducive to encouraging my appetite, but ended up being only one song at the beginning of my experience....everything went okay after that. Sat at the bar. Service was fairly attentive and constantly checked in on me and refilled my drink without asking. Meal: Miso Soup: Nice way to start the meal. Standard flavor. Sushi: Spicy 2 in 1 Roll: spicy salmon; outside: spicy tuna, tempura crisp (Comment: good taste, would eat again) Unagi Roll: freshwater eel, cucumber, eel sauce (Comment: okay, but had better) Spider Roll:fried soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber, masago (Comment: also okay) Yellowtail Nigiri: Comment: did not like, taste was not what I was accustomed to. All other Nigiri I had below was good Smoked Salmon Nigiri Smelt Roe Nigiri Shrimp Nigiri: Sweet Shrimp: Comment: biggest surprise. This is deep fried shrimp heads....yes...that's what I said and they were tasty. Quite good, crunchy, slightly sweet...just have to get by that you are heading the heads. When I was seated at 5:30 pm at a nice table inside a more than half-full dining area, I was delighted to be presented with menus and water almost immediately. Unfortunately, I was not familiar with their ordering policy. A well-established convention of waiting for a server to take our order (e.g. drinks, food, etc.) did not appear to be the correct procedure. After 20 minutes, water glasses were refilled, but no server. On the table was a QR-code for digital ordering. Aha! Apparently, ordering is like the old King's Food Hosts with a phone at every table. I was quite intrigued, except that I did not allow the app to know my location, and hence, caused it to crash. (Seemingly it was designed by a pimply wannabe instead of a mobile developer.) After another 20 minutes, our water glasses were refilled and still no server. As I fought back tears filled with the torment of hunger, I was forced to admit that 40 minutes was too long to attempt to purchase a good meal, and we left. The water was terrific. i went to hiro 88 on friday with my daughter and family for happy hour, enjoyed the time spent with my family. i decided to bring my husband today for reverse happy hour. we basically ordered the same food that i had on friday. our waiter over charged us for everything and lied about why we were being charged a different price!! i complained to the manager and his explanation for the price discrepancy was.. basically it depends on what waitress or waiter you get!! i guess the waitress we had on friday was "being kind". and our waiter today was not!! that is not okay!! we did pay for our meal but no tip for you, you price gouging greedy waiter!! it is sad because had you been honest you would have gotten a good tip!! shame on you and your manager for trying to cover for your greediness!! p.s. i only gave a star because that is the only way i could post this review!! signed, very dissatisfied customer!! read more

Hiro 88 is always good food but on 2/5/21 I went to the downtown Omaha location with some girlfriend's and it was a great experience! Melanie D took her time and made sure we knew the drinks and what would pair with our orders. She made some suggestions that ended up changing my mind on some sushi ingredients for the better! Not bad. I had the bento box with spicy California and tuna rolls and chicken teriyaki. Chicken teriyaki was different - fried, sauce a little salty. Worst service I ever experienced! Had a reservation, arrive on time and I'm seated at a table that had yet to be whipped down. Before I can say anything the hostess had already disappeared. I return to the hostess stand and get reseated as another table is seated next to me. Within a minute of sitting down that table is asked for their drink order but I'm ignored I assume because another waiter is to serve me. Five minutes no one comes by... at ten minutes a waitress comes over and says she has to run a ticket for another table and will be right with me.... Five minutes.... Ten minutes.... No one. Ordered myself some lettuce wraps, which I've had plenty of times eating in at the restaurant, only to get home and find myself with the saddest, most disappointing, awful excuse for food. If I could leave less than one star I would. We arrived prior to pick up time and were prepared to wait in our car but it was already bagged up and ready. They forgot one of our tiny seven rolls. Our Sushi was extremely warm, contained NO wasabi or Ginger and ZERO SAUCE that should have been on top of the rolls. We were extremely disappointed for the $97 we spent and still hungry after consuming the very tiny rolls. We tried Hiro88 because our regular Sushi restaurant was closed due to COVID19 as was our 'back up' Sushi restaurant and we just wanted good Sushi. We come here about once or twice a month and the quality of the sashimi and rolls are surprisingly consistent (compared to other sushi joints). The ice machine definitely has mold in it. I've worked serving jobs and have seen it plenty of times and can identify it by the taste. I compared two glasses of water, one with ice and one without and the quality was very noticeable between the two. Have been sitting for over 20 minutes and haven't been able to order. Our first time at Hiro 88 and it happened to be "reverse happy hour"! Which by the way, it lasts all day. It was a lot of food for a great price. We had the cucumber sake-tini to drink and I will definitely be going back for that. Unfortunately, that drink wasn't on the happy hour menu but it was so good, it was worth every dollar. I wish I remembered our servers name but she was very efficient, and never left a dirty plate on our table. When the sushi came out, it was missing a few garnishes that would have made the sushi go from mediocre to amazing and our server caught that right away (before we said anything) and took care of it for us. This place is a must try if you're a fan of sushi, sake and everything chopsticks. By the way, we also ordered Thai curry chicken dish to go, wasn't the best I've had so maybe pass on that. Fantastic host, I believe he was management. We were sat right away and shown the menu, given an explanation of happy hour specials and told our waiter, Terrance would be with us soon. Terrance was the best waiter we have ever had in our lives. Maybe it's the Conundrum wine he sold me on but he was relatable, considerate, thoughtful and funny. I love Hiro 88, specifically the Jackson street location. Have been going here for the longest time, and always served with excellent service and food. I picked up the order and she had two $16 rolls, two $14 rolls, one $11 roll and then a few that were under $10. One order had cream cheese. I let it slide when I picked the order up. This sushi is the worst sushi quality I've ever had. Tasted like rubber. I will never go here again. Teach your employees how to listen. Hi-Vee sushi is even better than this place. Sad. My lunch experience was horrible at your Old Market location on 2/16. 1. Most of my party was seated at 1130, Mike came over and did drinks and asked if we wanted to wait for the rest of our party. Our last member of the party got there at 1140... we didn't see Mike until 12, despite attempts to flag him down. We even went to the front desk to see if they could help us with service.  2. I ordered the 3 bento box: California, spicy California, and avocado cucumber rolls. I am pregnant and cannot have raw sushi... Someone else delivered our food and I didn't hear what they said, but they were gone when I noticed the error. I received a spicy Cali, and 2 tunas. I am pregnant and cannot have raw sushi. I didn't see Mike until we wanted our checks. By that time we had already been there 1.5 hours. I needed to get back to work and didn't have time to wait for new rolls. 3. It took 10 minutes to get our checks. It took another 5 minutes for him to pick up the tickets... and another 10 minutes to get our cards processed. My 1 hour lunch break took 2 hours due to poor service. I still paid for my meal since I didn't have time to make the error known in the restaurant. 4. I wrote a Facebook message describing my experience on 2/16 around 615 and have yet to receive a response... it's been over a week... read more

Love this place. I typically create dinner from the appetizers menu. Tonight it was boneless short ribs, baby Bok Choy, pan fried green beans, pot stickers, steamed rice and smoked salmon. Washed down with a house Pinot. Did I mention I had company? Way too much, not to share. We went to Hiro 88 downtown last night with a work group of 20+ and had a great time and the service was fantastic. They were able to seat us in a secluded area which was a plus. We had one server, Melanie, handling our entire group and had no issues. There were no mistakes, she had great suggestions, and all food was served pretty quickly for a group our size.
