Don't go here - period. I went with my partner attempting to support a local business and have brunch - I wish I'd cooked at home. They don't have typical bacon or sausage because "the owners don't eat pork" which really sounds like something more appropriate for their house, and not their restaurant business on Rhode island ave. The "chicken sausage" was a shriveled up piece of chicken paste that they cooked in the microwave. I ordered scrambled eggs, and when they came out, they had that crust that scrambled eggs get when they sit out after being cooked. The grits were lumpy and outside of the cheese sauce they put on the top - had no flavor. The French toast tasted like milk eggs and burnt grill. And the pancakes, were very obviously pre made and microwaved. Additionally - the meal I ordered is listed to come with a bread, eggs, a side and a meat. I asked for bacon, and was told the owners don't eat pork. I asked for the chicken sausage.. 5 minutes later the server asked me if I wanted the sausage spicy or not. Then when she brought the bill, there was a $4 up charge for spicy sausage that she neither told me, nor was it on the menu. And to make matters worse - the sausages were not spicy and were actually just flat out nasty. This is a SAD excuse for a restaurant. I'm sad that I spent calories walking there and dollars eating there. read more

What a hidden gem this is! Located on the strip on Rhode Island Ave, tucked between several shops and Zekes coffee this restaurant is a must try! They have a happy hour everyday! Including the weekends, with ample food and drink options. I've been twice and the service is always great! The bartender was super friendly and walked me through the offerings. The space is small, but mighty with both tables and bar seating. I tried the catfish nuggets which were fried to perfection! Crunchy on the outside, yet moist in the middle. I also had the burger which was equally as good. I believe they have a brunch menu too, so I will definitely be back to check that out. read more

I wasn't going to leave a review since this was my first time getting food from here, but after speaking with the employee over the phone just now, I must share, this place probably has its good days, but my first experience was not good. I ordered the Ragin Cajun pasta and added shrimp & salmon. I ate the shrimp and salmon but discarded the noodles and veggies. I think the noodles and veggies were cooked with burnt garlic. It made the dish taste like it was cooked with dish liquid soap. I couldn't finish it. The cajun cream sauce and/or seasoning had very little flavor. It was the most underwhelming first bite of cajun pasta you could experience. There's more excitement in the name of the dish. The to-go dish was served with parchment paper at the bottom causing the paper to become soggy. You either have to remove the paper (like I did) or be cautious and not scrape the bottom, which could result to you ripping the paper and potentially eating it. I'm pescatarian and eat Cajun pasta often - this was by far, the absolute worst. The sub was prepared with cheese, however, the ingredients on the website does not include cheese. In fact, you have to pay an additional dollar for Cheddar, Swiss, Provolone or American. I didn't select or pay for any cheese. I did, however, appreciate the style of fries. Overall, for both dishes, the flavor was severely non-existent. Portion size vs price is also depressingly incongruent. When I called to share that the food had an odd taste, the employee replied, "I'm sorry that was your experience". And that was it. I think the safe response would be something similar to, "Thank you for letting us know, I will check-in with the cook". I didn't demand a refund or share any rudeness. It's such a beautiful day, a good meal and good energy was all I wanted. I got one of them, at least. I will not be returning. (The pasta, after adding shrimp and salmon, was $41 and the sub was $19. This neighborhood gem was a nice spot for a chill late brunch, early dinner vibe. I was able to get parking right in the front and seated immediately when I entered. I had the deviled eggs, wings, and the stuffed salmon with mac and cheese, spinach and mashed potatoes. The deviled eggs and wings were so good. The salmon wasn't stuffed and the sides were VERY BLAND. They didn't have any mocktails, so I was disappointed in that, and the service was a bit inconsistent, but they were nice and responsive when they were attentive. It did take awhile for me to get my bill bc they were on the phone or hanging outside. This is a place I could hang out, relax and get some virtual work done. I also liked that it is black-owned. This restaurant required my husband and me to wait for over an hour before being served. During that time, I observed our server deliver my meal to the wrong table. The individuals at that table began eating the fries from the plate before realizing the mistake. The server then retrieved the plate, took it back to the kitchen, and later returned with what appeared to be the same meal. At that point, the salmon was cold, and the fries had already been partially eaten. I asked the server to confirm whether it was the same plate, and he acknowledged that it was. Due to the unacceptable handling of our food and the overall poor service, I informed the server that we would be leaving without paying. read more

We dropped into this neighborhood spot after years of living nearby. Happy we did! 5 stars here is for friendly service and relaxed atmosphere, with tasty food at great prices. Don't expect a Michelin-style experience and you will be happy here!! Tasty food on the dinner menu - they've got healthy options like a basic build-your-own salad, medium options like a tasty bbq flatbread, and rich options like fried southern treats. Nice decor in here too, and clean bathrooms. My one complaint was that at 715pm on a Thursday the music was too loud for us to hear each other talk, and probably also for people up at the bar much closer to the speakers. Seemed to be a lot of little glitches in the music from song to song, but all of this is minor. We had a good time! I saw some negative reviews or ones that "dinged" this place for little nit-picks, but a lot of these seem like people you can never please. Came here for brunch, left wishing we hadn't. Let's start with the good: the ambiance is okay, and the bathrooms are clean (always a plus). But unfortunately, that's where the highlights end. Service was just okay, but the experience went downhill fast. First, the music kept cutting out, so we got to enjoy the soothing sounds of their iPad clicking through the speaker instead. Then, they were out of coffee--at brunch. A bold move for a brunch spot. The food? Clearly frozen, barely passable, and somehow not cheap. They also charged us $4 extra per meal for sausage--even though our dishes already came with meat. We would've said something, but we didn't even notice until we looked at the receipt after we left. And the real kicker? A sneaky, undisclosed 20% "service charge" tacked on, which we didn't realize until after we had already tipped another 20%. So in total, we paid 40% in tip and service. Absolutely ridiculous. If we had caught the charges earlier, we would've spoken up, but the fact that it wasn't made clear upfront? Total scam!! Everyone is friendly, it has such a chill vibe and you just know the food is going to be SO good! And it sure was! My partner had the Crab Hash while I stuck to my classic favorite, Chicken and Waffles! The Crab Hash was full of flavor with peppers, onions, potatoes combined with some juicy crab meat! He ate every single bite of it! My C&W was so flavorful and not as dense as a lot of recipes. This waffle was the perfect blend of sweet with the crispy savory chicken that made it just fantastic! Shoutout to the over growing Rhode Island Corridor: Anchored in culture, creativity and color. His & Hers is a small black owned bar (with a karaoke on Friday fyi). For a happy hour visit, we tried the wings (old bay is the go to), fried catfish bites (seasoned on the core and the happy hour cocktails were all under $10, which is becoming a rarity in DC. The bartender makes you feel at home and one of the mangers checked on us too. It's a mild walk from the metro , so I'd recommend uber or driving. read more

Horrible service and no sense of urgency to get your food to you in a timely manner. There was nothing to drink but water and even that was a frustrating service as nobody came to ask my wife and I if we needed refills. My wife and I sat for an hour while another group who was there before us received their food 45 minutes after our arrival. They ordered 2 burgers and a chicken and waffle meal. The waiter bought them out the wrong order (my wife's meal), and the lady who received the meal started picking through the plate, feeding her baby the fries, then noticed she had the wrong order and gave the plate back to the waiter who then took the plate back to the chef in the back and had the nerve to bring the same plate back to our table and present it to my wife as if they just cooked it. My wife is very observant and asked the waiter if her plate was the same plate he just served to the other party and he said "yeah" nonchalantly. He then bought out the correct order for the other party but it was cold as she vit into her hamburger. The lady then asked the waiter to reheat her plate so he took that to the back as well, never considering to make her a new plate. He brought out her plate within a minute or two and she took ANOTHER bite and complained her meal was still cold and asked him to reheat it again so he took her plate BACK to the back with 2 huge bites from the cold burger. He then returned to the scene of the crime with her plate and 2 bites missing from the burger and by this time I was steaming, watching the unprofessionalism of this establishment. The lady bit into her burger again and just settled for the cold burger. I told my wife let's get TF outta here. The waiter bought out my meal and I refused to take a bite because I already knew we was leaving. My wife stared at her plate and just couldn't do it, she then agreed with me and we stood up and left. I told the waiter that their service was absolutely horrible and he just smiled after I said we weren't paying for the meal nor did we eat any of it. He notified his manager who was busy talking on the phone the entire time. We stormed out of this poor excuse for a restaurant as I slammed the door in anger on the way out. I didn't mind trying to support this black owned business because I felt I was supporting my people but damn man, we need to do better!!!! This place had no system, nor structure, nor etiquette, nor business aqumin. It is a disgrace of a company and I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to eat here. read more

I will not lie, this was a plan b situation. A girlfriend and I were out for brunch and our first option closed for an emergency, but we were hungry. A quick Yelp search led me to this fabulous restaurant. Parking was even easy early on a Sunday afternoon, which also happened to be a holiday weekend I was surprised. We were immediately greeted upon entry and were offered to sit anywhere of our choosing. We chose a nice booth. Our waitress Jasmine immediately came to take our drink order, y'all know it was brunch so I had to order a mimosa and was pleasantly surprised to find out they offered cranberry, pineapple and orange as options. Jasmine was very upbeat and cheerful. I went on to order the catfish and grits and my homegirl had the crab hash. My only complaint is I would have preferred one larger piece of catfish as opposed to the two smaller pieces, but can I tell y'all this dish was seasoned to perfection I still to this day think about this dish. I can't wait to return and try other things on the menu. Did I mention the menu is reasonably priced? We ate ALL of our food, just pure deliciousness When we were wrapping up we were informed of a downstairs space that is available for rent. A group of us chose to go here last night. We ordered quite a bit of different things and most were subpar to say the least. The chicken and waffles came with a waffle that was chewy and seemed to be microwaved. There were 4 flats and no syrup. Website said it came with thighs. The chicken was good but half of the waffle was thrown out. The shrimp tacos were ok but had no flavor, and no sour cream. If they had some kind of sauce, they would've been fine. I ate only ate one and bit a second. The spinach dip and chips is what kept this at a 3 star and not a 2. It was great!!! The salmon burger and the po boy were both good. Did a carry-out order from their Brunch menu for my first experience with this new spot. Based on 2 main course dishes that I tasted, it gets a thumbs up. The eggs benedict with smoked salmon (called nova lox) is straight-forward and traditional. The crab hash is interesting; comes with a light dipping sauce--sort of a remoulade thing going on with it. I like the home-style fried potatoes. They're nicely cubed, with sautéed onions and green and red bell peppers, and whatever seasoning that's being used makes them flavorful and perky. Prices are competitive. This location formerly housed both the Nido Restaurant and the Momo Yakitori Restaurant. Best of luck to His & Hers. I'll be back to try the dinner offerings. read more

Unfortunately, I'll have to say we were disappointed. We chose to come here because it is marketed as a fully Black-owned and run business, and we love to support our community. However, we found that only the patron in the front was Black, while the rest of the staff in the kitchen was LatinX, which is a front. That warranted a 2-star review because we wanted an all-Black experience, but below is the rest of our experience: We visited around 11AM. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday when we walked in. There was a small party upstairs and two people at the bar. Although we didn't go downstairs, so I can't speak to how busy it was there. But we couldn't hear any music and didn't see any one go downstairs. Upon first glance, I was in love with the decor - exposed brick painted white with trellises of leaves - very aesthetically pleasing. Everything blended together and was easy on the eyes, and the bar looked well stocked. I did, however, notice the presence of quite a few houseflies and a little unfresh smell present when first we walked in (7/10 overall). The menu is decent with a reasonable happy hour section, which would be pretty nice/affordable if brunch with your friends/partner is your goal outing. I believe there was all-you-can eat items and bottomless drinks, (8/10). When ordering, I was discouraged from trying the smoothies as they didn't have all the ingredients. However, I was offered a nice alternative of fresh juice that turned out exquisite (9/10). My partner ordered a classic margarita, which he rated a 6/10. We both had steak and eggs with home fries. I give the food a 6/10. I had hard fried eggs, my partner scrambled. The food lost points bc both steaks were well done, even though we ordered medium well and they just seemed old/not fresh at all and didn't have a sear. Unfortunately, not impressed. Went for Sun brunch. They had no coffee! Wanted a Bloody Mary but their liquor was "missing." Got a mimosa instead and it was ok. Wanted real bacon but was informed they don't carry pork products, so I had to have turkey bacon. That fact should be on the menu so you know before you go. Food was good. Place is cute. These ppl are way to comfortable and confident to be new business owners in a super trying time. They were walking around like it was Morton's but giving McDonald's service! The bartender was ok because I didn't drink but he was also all over the place too. Taking orders across the room smh. I asked for water 4 times and it was I only 5 ppl in the entire restaurant including us AT THE BAR!! 3. Food. My friend said her food was good but that's because someone else cooked and prepared her order THEN LEFT! Another chef attempted to make my food but FAILED! They literally left the whole establishment to go to the liquor store next door because they ran out of champagne (my friend had a mimosa), mind you it's 2:00pm, how tf you run out of champagne lol it's brunch time. Who's doing inventory?? Where's the manager??? They literally told me I had to wait because they need more "ingredients for my meal" LMAO smh!! The ingredient I seen when he brought that god awful plate out: COURSE PEPPER. Sausage burnt. My French toast never came so I canceled everything and said fuck it! Then on top of all that, they had a nerve to say the owner was down stairs ‍ smh like sir, you running a cute looking carry out because the service was just the same. The decor is BEAUTIFUL! The menu LOOKS decent but taste I'm not sure because I did not eat. I think it's better as a party space and maybe a lil bar on the weekend buy an actual restaurant?? Issa hell NO for me... overall it was just a bad unorganized unprofessional experience. This is the second black owned business I've been in that's just too dysfunctional for my likings. What an amazing addition to the neighborhood! This newly opened restaurant is a must! Black-owned and family run, this restaurant had absolutely phenomenal service. They've got a beautiful space upstairs and a quieter space downstairs. The food was delicious with a great selection of appetizers (catfish, salads, shrimp - you cannot go wrong). The stuffed crab salmon and the burger were full of flavor (dare I say, we might've found our new favorite burger spot). I wish I wasn't such a light weight these days, as their cocktails were excellent. While I only had the cucumber caipirinha and the tamarind margarita, each will definitely have us coming back and I'm looking forward to trying more (dare I say, we also might've found our new favorite cocktail spot). We also came with our 18 month old (date nights are limited these days) and they were great about offering us sides for her and recommendations for us. We were in the neighborhood and my friend remembered this place. We stopped in for a late lunch early dinner. It was like a neighborhood gathering spot with friendly patrons and staff, really cool atmosphere. The drinks were great, the appetizer (coconut shrimp) was hot & fresh with great flavor. I had the cheesesteak sandwich which was very tasty. It wasn't quite edge-to-edge so the 1st bite was just crunchy bread, but after that 1st bite, every bite was full of flavor and hit the spot.
