I wont name the Restaurant but you can inbox me. I HATE when the so called Chef sends out some bullshiz. You knew it was terrible when you so called plated it. Crab Dip was Watery Chicken Wings were Old, when I broke them, a rack of grease dripped out Mash Potatos were BOXED Greens were GOOD Cornbread was EXCELLENT Ribs were OK Drinks were too sweet, but that was fault, because I know better than to order a Mixed Drink Of course I sent the food back, Our waitress said I could keep the greens, then came back and said the Manager said I had to pay for the greens, sent them right on back too. She did ask if I would like something else. I NEVER order another Entree after sending something back. The manager NEVER came out to speak with us, the so called Chef had an attitude. Had a reservation for 10 ppl on 7/12 for brunch and they were CLOSED, with a handmade, cardboard EVICTED sign on on the door!! Never received notification of the closure, but did receive a text asking me to confirm my reservation that morning. Crazy. People were walking by saying they closed on Friday or Wednesday the previous week. Other people walking up to dine were surprised too. The outside of this restaurant is very unassuming but the inside is very nice and warm and cozy. There is a bar area and then upstairs and downstairs seating and I believe they even have a private conference room. Staff was pleasant. I came here for an event but of course had to try some of the menu items. The margarita was ok. I did get the bar burger which came with decent bit of fries and was very well cooked. My friend got the cornbread and now that is a highlight item. We ended up ordering it twice because it was so good. read more

We went on a Wednesday evening, and while there were only a few guests inside, the atmosphere was calm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was how relatable and down-to-earth the servers were--it felt like catching up with old friends. The inside of the restaurant is spotless, and the aesthetic is warm and pleasing, perfect for a mid-week wind-down. I started with the Division Drop, but it tasted a bit like a margarita, so I swapped it out for the Rum Punch--and after two sips, I knew I had made the right move because that thang was strong! For food, I went with the Happy Hour Catfish Nuggets, and let me tell you, it was a whole meal. The food came out hot, fresh, and plentiful, and every bite was seasoned to perfection. I thought I'd make my way back here before giving an official review and exploring more of the menu, but here we are. My good sis and I had heard great things about this place and decided to give it a try. Finding the entrance was a little confusing since you can't see inside the restaurant, but once inside, it's surprisingly large with two levels and a decent-sized bar. Happy hour is offered, which is always a plus. The menu had me wanting everything, even the Detroit-style pizza, and I'm not a pizza person. What intrigued me most on the happy hour menu were the fried chicken wontons, so of course I ordered them. I also got the cornbread, crab dip, jerk-glazed salmon with lemon rice and garlic spinach, and the pepper steak with mashed potatoes and garlic spinach. Everything was a hit.The fried chicken wontons and their dipping sauce were a chef's kiss. The jerk-glazed salmon didn't give me much "jerk" flavor, but it was still very good. The pepper steak was flavorful, tender, seasoned perfectly, but I do wish it came with white rice instead of mashed potatoes. Just my suggestion. I didn't try the spinach (texture issue, I have a love/hate relationship with spinach), but my friend said it was good. Now... the chili. I'm a chili lover, so I wanted to take some to go. You'd think packing chili would take 3 to 4 minutes, but it took forever. When I got home and tasted it, I understood why. That was not chili. Don't advertise it as chili. It was meat sauce with cheese, literally a big blob of cheese mixed in. Hard no. As a pasta dish? Sure. As chili? Absolutely not. And chili isn't something you make on the fly, which this clearly was. When we arrived the place was empty, which was fine, but it picked up over time. I would return to try more dishes, just please don't hand me that chili again. I've also heard brunch is good, so maybe that'll be my next visit. For now, dinner service is what's on my mind. I had no idea this place was here, but it's great to see this type of offering in the neighborhood. I met up with some friends here to watch the game. This place is extremely big, and has both upstairs and downstairs seating, as well as bar seats. There are plenty of TVs throughout, so it seemed like a good spot to check out for football. Once seated, it took awhile to get my order taken. On top of that, our items came out either very late or not at all. We had to ask for water 5 times before it was refilled. Our server was nice, but definitely seemed overwhelmed. I started with the crab dip and it was okay, but tasted just a little off. I also ordered lamb chops and it was pretty tasty, but I was missing a side. The cocktails I ordered were abysmal. Stick to the rail drinks. Overall, it was a poor experience, and I'm not sure I would recommend it to anyone. read more

We attended an all-black party for my wife's friend, and the event was catered from the kitchen. Since I don't eat meat, I ordered directly from the menu. My wife and others raved about the lamb chops, chicken, and dip, saying everything was delicious. The service throughout the evening was also excellent. The private room we were in was nicely decorated and had a really cute vibe. As for my meal--I'll admit I was judging the veggies at first, but they turned out to be absolutely delicious! I had a great experience at The Strand! Service from Samantha and Gator was 10/10 from start to finish. I ordered the wings (fried) and the jerk sauce that comes on them was so good! The wings were seasoned and fried perfectly. The cornbread and apple butter was also a hit for me. The pepperoni pizza was delicious with the right amount of crunch in the crust. Great experience! I had time to spare and wanted a quick bite. Found this place and automatically knew I wanted Mac and Cheese. Parked on a side street, walked in and was greeted with a smile by the host who was very pleasant and helpful (didn't catch her name, but she had a short cut). She advised that Bruch Buffet was until 4pm, but there was a menu at the bar. Bartender service was mediocre- nothing memorable. Bar menu was a few items, but not Mac and Cheese! Haha. I thanked her and left. On my way out I was stopped by Trey who I assumed was a manager. Trey was smiling and personable and explained the Buffet Again- he was accommodating and convinced me to stay. Checked in on me during my meal and thanked me before I left. Food: Mac and cheese was baked and a large portion. This is a new addition to the area. The hostess and waitress were very helpful. The restaurant is open with lots of tv screens. There is street parking which can be somewhat challenging. We ordered appetizers and entrees. The appetizer was extremely greasy and not appealing. The entrees were just so-so. This is a new spot and I am sure things will improve the longer they're open. What can I say. It was great to be back in Ward 7 dining in what I'd remembered as an abandoned theatre. The owners did a great job creating a really bright and vibrant atmosphere here. The staff were spot on. Attentive without being intrusive and made some great menu suggestions. We tried a few starters one of which was the crab dip that they are known for which did not disappoint, also had the smoked wings with an amazing jerk sauce, There were three of us and we had the fried shrimp dinner, jerk salmon and the crab cake. Everyone loved their respective dish. We also split the Mac and cheese which was phenomenal. They added an old bay or chili powder to it which created a really present kick. Highly recommend this spot to anyone in the DMV. read more

First let me say, I Love the Ambiance of this place. The service is Great, from the front door staff right down to the waiters and Bartenders..... Everyone's attitude was Absolutely amazing!!! (And that's something you don't see in many, many establishments around DC.) I even had the pleasure of meeting the owner (AL) He was also just as pleasant and friendly as his staff ... kudos!!! The only thing I could mention is the volume of the music ....it was a little loud for a Sun morning lol...we could barely hear each other speaking..... maybe that's a good level for a Sat night, but maybe not Brunch Sunday...but what do I know, I'm in my 60's... The other issue I had was the salt content in the food (I Do Not have high blood pressure)..... in a neighborhood with predominantly African Americans one would think they would make an effort to control the salt...Especially the greens, they were sooooo Good but waaay over-salted... The other thing I had a personal preference about was the fried chicken wings....just too much breading and not cooked long enough, but EVERYTHING else was Fantastic....Shrimp & Grits...Fantastic...Oxtails...Amazing....Freshest of Salad and Fruit!!!!! I live close by and had been driving by for a few weeks and decided to check them out on a cold and rainy Friday evening. I ordered the Double smash burger. It's came perfectly cooked and was almost too much to eat at once. The fries were also hot and crispy. I ordered the hot crab dip, which was very cheesy and freshly made.. While sitting at the bar, I ordered two Four Rose Old Fashioned which were tasty as well. The bartenders were friendly and everyone seemed nice and welcoming to the Guest that came in. A steady crowd was coming in and out of the restaurant. Most sat at the bar. It's a nice space. The bartender said that they haven't had a grand opening yet but expected to once the signage was up around Thanksgiving. I hope this spot does well. I enjoy the other restaurants that this group has (The Point, Ivy City Tavern etc ) so I look forward to this spot staying around. Our neighborhoods deserve more than nasty carry outs and fast food restaurants. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our experience here - We came in for lunch on a Friday afternoon before visiting Kenilworth Park. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and attentive, and the food fantastic! I had the crab cake sandwich and homemade lemonade, and my husband had the deep dish pizza. We chatted with the manager, who told us about the renovations and the buildings previous history as historic movie theater. We saw some delicious drinks being served at the spacious bar. I saw this restaurant being advertised on IG and I had to visit. I made reservations and since everyone also saw the IG post it was very crowed. We found a seat and got in line. Many choices; macaroni & cheese, greens, oxtails, grits & many more great options along with the $5 mimosas. The restaurant was a nice size with an upstairs. The music was great and you are surrounded by large TV's. The service was excellent and I spoke with the manager who was very nice as well. Go and enjoy some good old southern style comfort food, you won't be disappointed. read more

I've been to the Strand a few times since it opened and had good experiences, good food, pleasant and courteous servers, etc.) So this time (last Sunday), I brought a friend (an older lady who wears hearing aids) to to the brunch after church and...it was alot. The hostess and servers were polite, but the music was so loud, it was impossible to carry on a conversation, and we were seated next to each other at a four-chair table in the middle of the floor. I had talked this place up so much that it was really embarrassing. I guess I should have checked out the brunch on my own before bringing someone. It was so loud she had to turn off the hearing aids because it was just too much. I asked the server if the music could be turned down and he said he'd ask the manager, and for a little while, it was at a slightly lower volume. But then I realized I was shouting again so , the DJ had clearly cranked it back up--a mix of rap and R&B tunes for the most part. The other issue I had was while I really wanted to love it, we arrived right after noon (when it opens) and yet most of the brunch items were barely warm. Almost everything was also extremely salty--especially the shrimp and grits. I'll eat just about anybody's shrimp and grits, but this was legit inedible because of the salt content. For a restaurant to locate in a Black neighborhood and have that much salt in the food is kind of unconscionable given that most Black folks have high blood pressure. I hadn't experienced that with the dinners I've eaten there, so it really was a shock. I would sincerely request a review of the brunch food to determine where salt can be cut in half or eliminated altogether. I will return, because it is very important for me to support Black business--especially in Ward 7 and in this area where there are so few good places to eat, but the brunch experience would be so much better if there was less salt in the food (people could always add their own salt) and if you could keep the volume low enough so people can hear themselves speak. read more

Let me start with there aren't any true dining spots east of the river in DC. Those that live in DC know what I'm talking about. So, I spotted an unassuming place in the unlikeliest neighborhood and figured I'd check it out. Finding the way in was tricky as there are two doors on the side of the building where the windows are so naturally you'd think that was the entrance - unfortunately not. Someone saw me attempting to open both doors and motioned for me to come around the corner- surprise there's a door! No signage so you still don't know where you are. After entering it was a nice, clean not too busy on a weekend afternoon. So I think "ok this is a good start ". An employee that was off shift greeted me and escorted me to a pleasant young man (Marcuise?) with whom I began to chat with. He asked if I was dining in or ordering takeout, so I decided to eat in. After being seated and looking at the limited menu (for a startup it's completely understandable), the waiter introduced the manager who was pleasant and welcoming. Food Review: I had the brisket sandwich, fries and a ceasar salad. The presentation was good (as seen in the pic) and again the server was attentive. Unfortunately the salad tasted sour, I don't know if it was the lettuce or the dressing. The fries were cold & not crispy as I asked for and the brisket while warm wasn't flavorful. The price point was good so no complaints there. I wouldn't even say it was too pricey for the neighborhood because we all spend on what we want. While I've been wanting a place in the neighborhood that my wife and I could go to for a pleasant evening and a nice meal without having to travel a mile or more and pay downtown DC prices. Unfortunately, this isn't it - the service was great but not enough to bring me back. Maybe if they had comfort food on the menu such as shrimp and grits or even chicken and waffles I may have considered giving them a second chance.
