The service was less than good but the food is terrible. the cook cuts the ribeye steak in half making it impossible to get a good cook, it is burnt on one end and half raw on the other end. When you complain to the manager, all you get is an argument with questions like "WHAT is wrong with this steak?" not how can I make this right for you? In addition, the wait person, who we DID NOT complain about, told my wife to F*** off. When my wife returned the complement, the manager called the police. If you find yourself passing through Green River, Wyoming, don't even slow down passing the hitching post. Not shabby for a Sunday afternoon lunch in a small town. Situated next to Flaming Gorge and beautiful mesas! They had a Hawaiian pork burger special, which was tasty. Ordered takeout while staying in town for the marathon. Got a few pastas, enchilada bites, steak fingers and a burger. Pastas were ok, with the pasta a little overdone and very heavy on the sauce. The burger and steak bites was pretty good. I really liked the crispness of the batter of the steak bites. I liked the enchilada bites, too, with the sweet dipping sauce a nice match to the spiciness of the enchiladas. Service was a little slow to pick up our food. I'm surprised at the many negative reviews! In fact, I was nervous to go because of what I read. But the LOCALS told me to try it. I went with a big party of 14, and the place was fairly crowded. We were seated quickly (because we were smart and made a reservation). Our waitress, Olivia, was awesome, very friendly and attentive! The bartender came out twice to make sure our drinks were satisfactory (they were). And the food was great! I can't believe how much food we each had! And it was all delicious! If I could give a 1/2 star or no star I would! My husband and I came in on a Sunday night about 7 pm. The restaurant was closing at 8 pm, and we figured that was plenty of time. We were seated right away but orders were not taken until 7:15, which at that point got me looking around the restaurant at the tables that were still waiting on food. I realized that they were under-staffed and we waited patiently for another 45 minutes with no complaints. The waitstaff checked on us once, refilled our waters, and said, " let me check on your meal" at about 7:45. At 8, the waitress returned to say that our "food was NOT coming and if we could pay for the portion we'd already eaten," she would cover the rest. My husband and I looked at each other with confusion and spoke about the same time, " but we only had water!" We were not given any kind of compensation for our wasted time, not even an explanation or reason, and basically, kicked out without any food. As it was a Sunday evening, very few places were open besides fast food (Arctic Circle got our money)...as we drove by 10 minutes later we saw a large party that had come in at 7:15 also standing outside the restaurant...my assumption, they were asked to leave without food, too. The people are really friendly and there is plenty of room on the dance floor. This country bar was founded by two truck drivers from Pakistan (they each did not have a driver's license before they came to America). Sadly, we were treated poorly on our recent visit to the Hitching Post.  We received our drinks as soon as we were seated, but then we waited an hour to get any attention at all.  When one of our party walked to the front and asked if we could get a server, he was told yes, just a minute.  Twenty minutes later, we decided to leave.  Here's where the restaurant had an opportunity to save this bad situation, but it went from bad to worse.  He told the woman at the counter that we were leaving and we would pay for our one order of drinks served an hour and a half ago.  She actually charged us $11+ and said our waitress had a big table in the back.  OMG!!  You could have at least saved a little customer curtesy had you apologized, offered to pay for our drinks and hoped we'd come back!! read more

With only 6 people in the restaurant this should not have been the case! First, drinks took 25 minutes to come to the table. The order was given. 35 minutes later only 1/2 the table came out. I ordered a dinner salad (remembering I made my own) no the server brought out my salad with cheese and dressing that I cannot eat. I asked her to remake it the way I needed it ( dietary restrictions) and she said no instead I can pay an up-charge for one time trip to the salad bar. 20 minutes later the rest of the table was served. This is a pleasant surprise in the long straight highway of Wyoming. It's a great family place. The salad bar is extensive and has the standards (even chocolate pudding!). The menu has lots of choices. I had the shrimp scampi and was pleasantly surprised by the buttery, salty, garlicky goodness and a huge plateful. After the trip to the salad/soup bar I couldn't eat much of my dinner. Prices are reasonable but not cheap ($11-16 entrees). Service was lovely. Decor charming. It's not fancy or gourmet, just good At-home American food, but well worth the stop. read more

The place is clean, spacious, well decorated (even art by local artists). The bathroom was big & clean. The "chicken fried steak" was a frozen patty. It was dry and gross. The corn was tasteless and the cherry pie was frozen. The meal was pretty expensive for one person. I thought the food would correspond with the price, no, not at all. I would not recommend this place for food. The service was pleasant and friendly. This is a cute spot in Green River. This was our first visit. It had a big screen, NCAA started. It was right at the lunch hour so it was busy not packed. We stood at the door with a few others waiting to be seated. It looked liked like the wait staff were the hosts, bus staff and waitress. As a note both were very sweet. We order Bloody Mary's and will say they were good not great. I like my tomato mix thinner. They were okay. Husband had cod sandwich, way way way to much bread. Roll was thick, breeding was thick, and had been deep fried to a very crisp over cook state. The fries were homemade, but to suffered from being cooked to long. I, one who likes great grilled cheese sandwich was all in. All I can say is a good grilled cheese sandwich is warm, cheesy. So when my sandwich showed up it was none of those. It looked like two toasted pieces of white bread. Oh and I like mine with tomato. Ingredients between the bread was missing to say the least. Will have to try something else next time. My boyfriend and I stopped here for dinner on our way to Jackson. I ordered the French dip sandwich which was amazing. It was so good that I was eating too fast. Midway through my meal I was choking on the pickle and couldn't breathe, the staff was very attentive and called 911 right away. A local did the Heimlich on me and I was able to breathe again. Everyone there made me feel very safe and cared for and even called me the next day to see how I was doing. I would go back anytime I'm driving through again. read more

We came on a Friday night about 545, 600pm. While there was a minimal dinner rush and party upstairs, our waitress was acting as though she was absolutely over doing her job. When she came to take our order, she slapped her book down and asked "what do you want?" We sat the rest of the evening without refills on our drinks and waited for our food for roughly 30 minutes. Our waitress then got into an argument with another customer which ultimately resulted in her crying for the next 10 minutes. Getting absolutely anything was answered with "give me a minute" which was actually about 10. While I can understand a dinner rush, I don't understand how this is an effective Friday night bar staff. read more
