Came here for one of the private karaoke rooms and had a good time. One of my friends organized a big karaoke party in their VIP room, which was massive and was more than enough to fit the ~20 of us that were there. You have to go up to the front of the room and use the big screen to order a song. I didn't look closely at the selection but at least I was able to find all the English songs I was looking for. We ordered some soju cocktails to share. The peach and yogurt were both tasty. On my way to the bathroom, I walked around the back of the restaurant and was impressed by how many private karaoke rooms they had available, in all sizes. Would recommend this place looking to anyone looking for a private karaoke experience in San Diego!

I hadn't been back to HIVE for several years when I had visited with different groups on multiple occasions. Because of its internal corner location in a plaza within the Convoy District, the business was not highly visible from the street. The parking lot can be very congested during peak meal hours as there are several neighboring restaurants. I recently came in the mid-afternoon on a weekend when there were no other customers. One thing this place has going for it was space. The suite was cavernous which can actually be disadvantageous if you want to hold a conversation because of the ambient noise at night. At one point, there was an arcade to supplement the entertainment options. Regarding the karaoke, the number of available rooms was impressive. It's most likely one of the largest setups in the SD area. Some of the extra square footage has been converted to an adjacent Korean eatery that shares the same kitchen. The offerings have evolved over the years with a rice chicken vendor operating the food services for a while. From the one-page menu, I selected the Gyoza and a six-piece order of Honey Garlic Wings. The gyoza was served as five fried beef dumplings with a vinegar-based dipping sauce. The dumplings were crunchy with a decent amount of filling. The wings had a heavy coating of batter. The honey garlic sauce was applied inconsistently as the intensity of the flavor varied between the pieces. I felt bad for the bartender who served me because he looked bored without anyone else at the bar. It made me wonder if the management should consider opening HIVE no earlier than 5 pm. My latest visit was at a three star level.

Ants everywhere, including next to my food. Yum.

Would give this 0 if I could. Let's start with the big infestation, after waiting 10 min at a 1/4 filled bar I was given a drink complete with 2 live bugs swimming in it. Then as I look around there is ants EVERYWHERE. I mean EVERYWHERE. I've attached a picture showing them freely climbing on the post next to where my food was served. The female bartender seemed checked out and solely focus on the gentlemen who I overheard were friends that came in to see her, one of which was so clearly over served yet kept being served. I was in the area car shopping for hours after I had worked 8hrs previously and thought this would be a good place to watch my Padres an have some grub, little did I know it would be just as unenjoyable as dealerships had been just before. Hopefully they have better/acquire better management and bartenders, maybe hire an exterminator for customers sake as well. Won't be going back. Wouldn't recommend going.

Finally got to check out Hive for the first time and had so much fun! I feel like sometimes the karaoke system is kind of difficult when it comes to queueing up song, but this was SUPER easy. There's a separate tablet for both ordering food and for songs. It was only the 4 of us, so we were in one of their smaller rooms and honestly it was the perfect size it felt like we had a potluck bc of all the food we ordered but the wings were def our fav!!!! SO GOOD, tried basically all flavors

Wow, the ambience of this place is spacious and stellar! Walking in, I'm immediately impressed by the classy and modern decor. It's charming, cool, and relaxing. A good friend came to town and after dining at Paik's Noodle, we decided to pay a visit for some refreshing drinks. Here are the main things that I like about this karaoke/bar based on my experience: (A). This spot provides a good space to relax and unwind from a long working day or week because of its clean, modern, and spacious ambience. The women's restrooms are cleaned. This reveals a lot about cleanliness and how well-maintained a business operates. (B). Service is great. Our drinks were ready in less than 5 minutes. (C). They have a variety of drinks and food to explore and enjoy. I ordered a non-alcoholic drink for only $7. It was refreshing and perfect for those who like a light drink. Don't let the overall Yelp reviews rating deter you from coming to this spot. You can come for the food and drinks, not only for the karaoke if you like. If you're looking for a spot for any occasions, this place is it! Check out their Instagram page for additional information and any special events.

When you first walk in, there's a bar for ordering drinks or food. The karaoke rooms are behind the bar, and they reach have their own style of room (ours was cowboy themed). The rooms were huge, we definitely could fit like 20 people in the room. The food was really good! Expensive, but tasted great. We ordered the fries and beef japchae. The service was prompt and friendly, we could either order at the bar and they would take it to the room we were in, or order on the little tablet in the room.

So we went today for a friends birthday... one thing I was not aware of is the " gratuity charge" we got the silver package which was $280 but totaled to 320.00 with a $50 gratuity charge, staff did help but not as much for a $50 gratuity charge plus tax, we got our drinks sang our karaoke sang and got 1 refile, so just be aware of the extra charges they be putting I will not be going again, round one has better prices and friendly charge "hidden fees"

Ray's the man... I sort of was confused by the entry of the establishment. But all my confusion subsided once I was greeted by the warmth of Ray. He was welcoming, friendly, and patient. As well as thorough in how the karaoke rooms worked. This was my first time and each time forward I want my experience like the one I received from Ray. The karaoke room was fantastic. Food and drinks were delieved to the room. Everyone in my party enjoyed the food, drinks, and singing our hearts out!

    Ask the Community - Hive

Is this place going to be closed and is it going to be coco ichibanya?? trying to make reservations for september but can't.

    Hello Julie, We are open!…

Do they use the Karafun catalogue or something different?

Hello Karina, Thank you for your question.…

Do they have kid friendly options for music/songs?

Are our own food and drinks allowed?

Are the karaoke rooms open during COVID?

    Yes, they take reservations online.

Does anybody know if they're open? Automated response says they reopened September 1st from 4:30-10:30 pm Mon-Sat, but nobody has been answering calls during business hours.

Yes they are open. Karaoke rooms in the back are also available. I called to book mine.

    How much is karaoke?

I got a small room for $40/hr. It can prob fit 5-6 people comfortably.

    Is it 21+?

No it is not 21 and up

Just wondering, Are you still open?

    Yes still open

    What is the age requirement?

Minors or those under 21 (except 10 and under) do not require a chaperone to use the karaoke rooms before 9:30 PM.

How many people can fit in the biggest karaoke room?

Their biggest karaoke room can definitely fit at least 50. They rage from medium to smaller rooms. They also opened up a speakeasy restaurant that's also there called, Pocha.

Are kids allowed, 12y.o and under?

    It's a bar.

Does anyone know if Hive has updated their song selection within the past year? As of Halloween 2017 they hadn't updated in over a year.

    Yes

    What is the music selection?

It's a good mix of old and new mainstream hits, but also with some Korean, Tagalog, etc. songs as well. Don't be surprised if you can't find your signature karaoke song but they have a great selection!

Is this kid friendly during the day and dinner time?

    How's the karaoke?

The karaoke was great. The rooms were pretty big, but it probably just depends on how many people go and that determines the size room you get. But it's pretty great and I'd go back again. They provide two microphone and the remote (the thing you…

What time does the AYCE Lunch special start/end?

    Lunch $9.99 11am-5pm dinner $14.99 5p-9pm

    Have any gluten free options?

Yeah. Oysters $1 each for happy hour. check out the menu https://www.hivesd.com/food-menu/

You are not allowed to watch on the big screen on the floor if you have a karaoke reservation, and you should stay in that karaoke room? This what your security guy said (who are wearing black suit)

If it's for an event fight that is being charged for and karaoke people don't pay that charge to watch that event it totally makes sense

I heard there's a cover charge? Is this true?

HIVE has cover charges during special events such as but not limited to, Special DJs, UFC PPV Fights, any PPV Broadcast events.

The shelves are lined with a wide selection of liquors and spirits and everything is tastefully placed. There is even a fun little gimmick: a secret revolving platform that takes you into the main bar. The bar features a beautiful central fountain space with the tables organized along the edges of the room. The room is dimly lit for an intimate mood, but it makes it really hard to see things in my opinion. Unfortunately this is where the curtains are drawn and we find it was a sheep masquerading as a wolf all along. Their cocktail menu was extensive. The drinks had clever names and interesting flavors, but none of them really wowed. The whiskey menu was one of their strengths, featuring a good selection of American, Japanese, and Scotch whiskeys. The service was excellent; our server was super helpful and very knowledgeable of the entire menu. Overall, RBW's strength is in their presentation and vibe, but falls a bit flat when it comes to flavor.

Parking is a nightmare good luck finding parking within a mile of the restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, service Cons: food wasn't great for the price, restaurant was small and crowded, no parking Service: All of our servers were friendly and very accommodating. Gave us some knowledge on the menu and recommended cocktails based on our preference. I had spilled my drink and they were quick to make me another one. Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures. We left unsatisfied and ended up getting in-n-out after.

Tonight was girls' night out, so we decided to order the prettier, and sweeter cocktails. But don't let the sweet flavors fool you--they are definitely generous with the alcohol. These drinks may taste dangerously easy to sip, but they pack a punch! Not only that, but the drinks are strong (a pro for most, con for some). The food is delicious, and the seating is super comfortable! The service was above-and-beyond, as the staff there offered to remake drinks that my friends did not particularly enjoy for free. I do recommend to make a reservation ahead of time as walk-ins are not guaranteed. For reservations, you'll need to make a deposit. This deposit will be refunded once you show up. There was a wait despite having a reservation, but nothing too long. The volume is not too loud, and the speakeasy was very clean. The parking is moderately decent, but hard on weekends. There's a parking lot in the plaza, but street parking is also available as well.

I liked this part of the speakeasy the most and it was definitely photo worthy. The service was super awesome! Our waiter/bartender was very knowledgeable, helpful and funny. He was really cool and made the experience even more fun. Their menu is now through a QR Code. They offer seasonal drinks as well as house regulars. We all ordered a different drinks. They were Seoul City Hipster, Kasato Maru and Purple Petunias. Each was $20, but they were so tasty. I got the 52 Burger for $16 which was mouthwatering. One of the best burgers I have eaten. My friend got the 12oz Bone-In Pork Loin for $27. This was pretty decent. I thought the burger was better. Now that I have been here, I definitely recommend checking out this speakeasy if you haven't and I look forward to another trip!

Make a reservation if you know this is your destination. They have some spot on Tiki decor and the staff here is really friendly, happy to share their favorite drinks, or make suggestions based on your likes. If fruity drinks are not your jam... what are you doing in a Tiki Bar!! No really, they have great options for on the rocks or straight as well as ordering your favorite cocktail or beer. They have a ton of options, all sorts of alcohol bases depending on what your vice is, they also have non-alcoholic drinks for those so inclined. Hard to pass on a Mai Tai or a Zombie to start your evening off. lately I have been enjoying the Eastern Sour which is their take on a whiskey sour. It's always fun when someone orders a bowl and the room shakes and the lights flash with thunder and lightning adding a bit of excitement for first timers. Just to recap: Don't get mad if you have to wait and did not make a reservation. While they have lots of options, most drinks and all specialties are Tiki Drinks. Tiki drinks can be strong, mind yourself. If a place like this is not your vibe, that is fine, head back into Craft & Commerce, make room for others who are waiting to get in, just have fun!

Fortunately we got bar seating. The bar then quickly filled up with many standing as the bar got crowded. As far as drinks, their menu had many listed drinks. Wifey and I started with Rum Old Fashioneds and they were delicious. Our second drink was a King Kong Old Fashioned and it too was yummy. The bartenders were very friendly and attentive. The place was hopping and packed. We will definitely return.

I came here again last night with friends and began to check in for our reservation with the bartender (the same bartender who had let me in the last time I was here). He spent a long time inspecting my CA REAL ID before going into the back. He returned and said he can't let me in since he doesn't trust my ID. He said store policy is that they have to be able to feel the imprint on your license's signature, which even he admitted that he could, but it was too faded so he wouldn't let me in. I showed him matching credit cards, Costco membership, and CA DMV mobile drivers license, but he still refused and pleaded ignorance. He gave me my driver's license back and said I'm lucky because he normally keeps fakes (thanks for the empty threat). In reality, he knew my license was legitimate and didn't want to have the cops called on him. This place really needs to update their policies and train their staff better on how to identify legitimate IDs. I'm definitely not gong to bother coming here again and will make sure I recommend others not to come here.

Items such as scrupulously prepared meatballs, fried polenta, spaghetti with mushroom sauce, etc., from the prior next-door, connected purveyor "Soda and Swine"...but those days are done ...I digress. And where is Soda and Swine's Yelp page? I know I did a review, but now the page appears gone completely in search? Nah, it's just hidden, presumably to accommodate Fortunate Sons, which opened about a year ago after re-construction of both establishments. I'm too lazy to see if still owned by Consortium Group. I did search my reviews and found my updated Soda & Swine review dated 8 & 10 years ago. O_o !! Now, food is still served, however, there's a new name in town called "Fortunate Son" (next door, connected). Apparently, food now served is Asian-inspired. I've not visited recently to taste. The North Park area is a great neighborhood with many different types of food close by. As mentioned, there are no menus. We sat at the bar, the bartender makes casual conversation with you regarding the types of drinks you enjoy. He curated something for both my husband and I based on what we shared we enjoyed. The drinks were delicious. The entry was very cool! It felt as if you were entering a hidden spot - which you do. When you enter the restaurant, you let the hostess know you're there for the Noble Experience. She let us know to head to the wall with the kegs (which is actually a door). You enter and there's a small waiting area where you're greeted by another hostess. This place is a 20/10. We can't wait to return on our next visit to SD.
