After getting lit, we went to the karaoke to sober up b4 driving off into the moonlight. The trick is. You have to go all-out when u sing, or u don't enjoy urself. Went here on a 4/26 Sunday 6pm room 7, parking on the area was packed, hard to find one just fyi. Guy on the counter looks like he didn't want to work there and had 0 enthusiasm , the food was good tho, easy to order on the iPad . The seats had ripped parts, the floor and table were sticky . The music control was close to the TV and can block the others singers view while you were inputting songs, the keyboard remote wasn't working. The music selections were so so and was lagging 20% of the time. The walls were thin and you can definitely hear the other rooms well enough. The lighting was nice! Price was on the pricier side compared to other Karaoke places. Overall the experience was so so, would I come back to this place? Maybe if they had a discount but who knows . Came here for one of the private karaoke rooms and had a good time. One of my friends organized a big karaoke party in their VIP room, which was massive and was more than enough to fit the ~20 of us that were there. You have to go up to the front of the room and use the big screen to order a song. I didn't look closely at the selection but at least I was able to find all the English songs I was looking for. We ordered some soju cocktails to share. The peach and yogurt were both tasty. On my way to the bathroom, I walked around the back of the restaurant and was impressed by how many private karaoke rooms they had available, in all sizes. When we first got there to check in the bartender/ guy who was checked us in was unkind and gave off the "I don't want be here" vibe. We pushed through because we had a party of 25 arriving for the bigger Karaoke room. We ordered lots of food and few pitchers of beer and Soju. The food was fine and typical bar food. There was no AC and when we asked about fans they said they didn't work. We were never checked in with and every time we went to the bar to order we received an eye roll or a deep sigh. I hadn't been back to HIVE for several years when I had visited with different groups on multiple occasions. Because of its internal corner location in a plaza within the Convoy District, the business was not highly visible from the street. The parking lot can be very congested during peak meal hours as there are several neighboring restaurants. I recently came in the mid-afternoon on a weekend when there were no other customers. One thing this place has going for it was space. The suite was cavernous which can actually be disadvantageous if you want to hold a conversation because of the ambient noise at night. At one point, there was an arcade to supplement the entertainment options. Regarding the karaoke, the number of available rooms was impressive. It's most likely one of the largest setups in the SD area. Some of the extra square footage has been converted to an adjacent Korean eatery that shares the same kitchen. The offerings have evolved over the years with a rice chicken vendor operating the food services for a while. From the one-page menu, I selected the Gyoza and a six-piece order of Honey Garlic Wings. The gyoza was served as five fried beef dumplings with a vinegar-based dipping sauce. The dumplings were crunchy with a decent amount of filling. The wings had a heavy coating of batter. The honey garlic sauce was applied inconsistently as the intensity of the flavor varied between the pieces. I felt bad for the bartender who served me because he looked bored without anyone else at the bar. It made me wonder if the management should consider opening HIVE no earlier than 5 pm. Out of all the karaoke places in Convoy, this was is definitely on the pricier side. My group made a reservation from 6-8pm and the person who made the reservation was notified of a 30 minute grace period. Although the whole came in around 6:15pm, we were immediately cut off at 8pm (there is a timer on the TV). The food here is definitely pricey and the tablet to input the songs was very laggy. We came by to possibly book a reservation for a karaoke and golf party. I have participated in parties here 4 times and I was surprised that they no longer have golf. They let us walk through the rooms that were not occupied. In the larger rooms the seats were torn up. I suppose with the lights dimmed and disco lighting on you can't really tell. They took the deco off the wall and I asked the server if they are ready to shut down but he said he believes they were in the midst of renovating the place. We ordered Fried Chicken Wings and Beer. We enjoyed the wings which came super hot and moist. I didn't care for the sauce but I didn't select it and glad it came separately. I took the leftover wings and had hot chili honey at home and YUM! I ordered a Passion Fruit Mule and it was okay. My friend did end up booking a party with karaoke in their largest room so stay tuned for that experience. The wings and service was good. This place was mediocre. As other reviews mentioned, if you are going to stand for karaoke then your back would be to your friends. I wish there was another screen on the other side of the room. The tablet on our table wasn't connecting so we were not able to order drinks from our room. Staff reset it but it still didn't work. Unfortunately this meant having to keep leaving to the bar and waiting then going back to the room. This wouldn't be too bad however it took about 20 minutes to get served with the bartender. This cut into our booking time. The iPad was easy to use. I liked the lights in the room. We didn't order any food. We may have if the tablet worked. I'm not even sure what food was available. This place is in a pretty active plaza with eateries and other activities. The spot itself is pretty spacious for plenty of things, watching a game, DJ set, or karaoke. They have individual karaoke rooms and also golfing screens. Great social place in general! FOOD: Traditional Chicken (Recommend) Gotta love rice flour - fluffy, light, not as oily and crunchy. A solid and safe choice if you want your chicken. Salt and Vinegar (Recommend) A mild amount of salt and vinegar. Disclaimer: this was my first time in a karaoke room (ever) and I do not speak Korean. The entrance is super swanky. Very modern and cool. You walk in to a huge bar with a couple of golf simulators at the end, great for groups. There's a pool table and a couple couches as well. We were taken back right at the time of our reservation. We were escorted to a room for the 6 of us, and it was tight but ok. We were handed a huge book that was filled with mostly Korean karaoke options with a small section for American pop, along with a remote that was also primarily in Korean. You'd have to look up the song in the physical book and then enter the number on the remote, which took awhile, or alternatively, you could try to type in the artist and see if they had any of the songs by the artist available. Our waitress prefaced that there were no songs from the last 5-6 year available, and even then, the song selection available (American pop) was questionable at best. More than half the songs we wanted weren't available. The machine broke halfway through our session and the manager had to come in and fix it, too. The chairs were wobbly and the floors were sticky. My husband and I were both allergic to something in the room (assuming someone recently was in there that had a cat), but the rooms were not ventilated at all which didn't help the cause. All that being said, the room plus 2 drinks a person was less than $30 per person, so pretty affordable. TLDR; I don't know what I was expecting, but I probably wouldn't come back here for Karaoke. Even the exterior is confusing - kiddo and I just happened to have a hankering for fried chicken and spotted the Knockout Chicken signage so decided to stop by and grab takeout. Little did we realize Hive is actually where you're supposed to go, and that the door by the KC signage simply opens to an interior karaoke room (oops, sorry for the interruption! :). Once we got our bearings, we ordered the Half & Half (combination of Original and Marinated Korean Fried Chicken) with cheese powder and sweet & spicy sauce on the side to prevent sogginess during transit. The chicken itself satisfied our craving but wasn't memorable - I doubt I'd return here specifically for food, however karaoke and/or golf might be fun. Unfortunately, the kitchen neglected to include the coleslaw and diced pickled radish meant to accompany our meal, which we didn't discover until we were already home. I went in on a Thursday night and it was pretty empty so my party and I didn't have to wait long for drinks at the bar and didn't have to wait at all for a karaoke room. Sadly the kitchen was closed when we got there. We ordered old-fashions and they were good and strong. We decided to get a karaoke room and was happy to see they had a lot of the old songs we knew. They have English and Korean songs. If you want to play virtual golf it looked like they had some driving areas also. The music song selector giant calculator is not easy to use... and you kind of have to almost have your lips touch the microphone to be heard. We shared the large peach yogurt soju- large was much larger than we expected. All 6 of us were able to share instead of just two of us like we planned. It was my first time trying soju. If you're also unfamiliar - was like creamy peach fanta that you sip like a wine. We also shared a basket of chicken which is what is carrying the bulk of my rating for this spot- it wasn't great. It was dry, the breading didn't really do it for me. The sauces were on the side which was awesome for sharing and trying different flavors, but I prefer chicken that has the sauce cooked/soaked in a little more. Did not come with the advertised coleslaw or pickled radish. I've also been here to try their karaoke which was fun, they can serve your drinks and food in the rooms in the back. I lowered my rating because the staffer automatically added an 18% tip to my order without telling me. Which is incredibly shady. So I didn't get to take many pictures as I was hearing catching up with friends. We ordered chicken wings and they were so good that I didn't even get to take a picture of the actual food (we were super hungry so no time to waste lol). We ordered the original chicken, honey garlic and sweet and spicy wings. My favorite was the original chicken as you can never go wrong with deep fried chicken. I also ordered the passion fruit mule and the Moscow mule. I was not a fan of the passion fruit one (too tarty), but did enjoy the Moscow mule. We also did some karaoke. First unfortunately didn't get the exact employees' name but on 03/09 the guy with the tattoos and mid length hair had a bad f*cking attitude the entire time really ruined the experience from the get go. The night was only saved because we were served by other employees by the end of it. Read other reviews with same issue and thought we'd give a try anyways but seems like they were right. Other than that one on one experience, their system lags and music selection is also mid and outdated. They were accommodating and provided us with the best option to fit our comfort in the karaoke rooms as well. We went to dine in at a Korean Bbq grill, but with finding a parking being tough we ended up at another plaza and found this place called "HIVE CHICKEN & KARAOKE " instead. It has a wide window, I could see and hear from outside that they have a Bar and blasting music, so we just decided to try this place.
