Wanted to charge $1,264 to tow a vehicle 67 miles down the hill, from Pine Mountain Lake to Modesto. Almost three times what I was quoted to get a tow to come up to PML from Tracy. Took the tow from Tracy 1.5 hours to get up to PML, but saved me $700. I would not do business with these people. read more

My car was broken down and it takes these guys 2 hours to go 3 miles ! I can't understand why they take so long to go 3 miles I don't recommend hwy 120 towing for ... First off I am told that the eta was 120 minutes and then I get a phone call telling me I must wait another 56 minutes. Piss poor service I have read a lot of bad reviews about hwy 120 towing AAA said they are going to look into the problem there because they have several complaints . Screw 120 towing they can pound sand in a rat hole for all I care 4 hours I have to wait for a tow truck to take my car home ! That's just not right 120 towing needs about 4 new trucks to do the job they say they can . Stop being a tight ass and buy a couple more trucks . You can't take the money with you when you die so you might as well spend it or be in debt the more you put yourself out there the more you will make . So admit I have a good idea for you to expand the business . Every place else is growing. It's your turn so tomorrow go down to your financial advisor and get more trucks on the way. Your the only one around here ! Why haven't you thought of this already. I'm in this area all the time and see that you don't have enough trucks for the area you cover .... Step up and buy some new trucks the one I saw going down the hill looks 20 years old. Which makes you look cheap . Realize that I gave you the best idea ever. The truck finally showed up after 5 hours and the driver looked to tired to be driving and said he had been to Modesto 2 times already that day . I was not willing to take the chance riding that far with a driver who was to tired . He told me the company only has 2 trucks and I suggested they get at least 3 more so he was not over worked . Driver appeared to be over worked so because I had a place near by to fix my car and had someone bring parts out of Modesto for me . DO NOT USE HWY 120 TOWING!! If you're reading Yelp before you choose a tow truck company to use in the Groveland/ Big Oak Flat area, congratulations, you have the benefit of being warned. Someone stole my vehicle from a business parking lot in Groveland. The thief obviously did not have keys but why would they need keys when HWY 120 will tow my car to their house for them? No proof of ownership needed... I was notified that my vehicle was stolen, it was then located by California HWY Patrol, guess who comes and recovers my vehicle? You guessed it Hwy 120. I had to take time off of work to come and pay $400 dollars for the vehicle to be towed from the guys house that stole it to their shop and then storage fees. THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T OF BEEN STOLEN IF IT WEREN'T FOR HWY 120's INCOMPETENCE. Not to mention Mike Hamilton the owner of HWY120 Towing laughed about the whole thing. Unprofessional low life. I am doing everything in my power to have this poor excuse for a human being's towing license pulled if not having criminal charges pressed and I hope they are. read more

Last night we got into an accident on Highway 4, apparently there were many other accidents going on as well because it was the first rain we had had here in a while. So we got stuck with these guys. Honestly, the accident wasn't that bad it took the driver about 5 minutes to pull our car out of the ditch and our car was able to be driven straight from the scene. So, we hand the tow guy our paperwork for our insurance company expecting that of course it would be covered. Apparently it wasn't so we ended up having to wait for someone to come all the way from Valley Springs (45 minutes or so) just to give us the insurance card so he could check it again, and see that we actually meant business. During those 45 minutes of waiting, we got many snide comments such as, "every minute I'm here is 3 dollars, what time is it officer" the officer gives him the time, "oh yeah I've been here for an hour, look kid you could give me 200 dollars and we'll call it even." Excuse me? I may be a kid, but I'm sure as hell not stupid. Luckily the person aforementioned showed up and we were on our merry way. I hope this guy feels like an --- trying to work over people that were in an accident. Simply put it was ridiculous, something that you would expect from a city not the good ol' country. All in all, I would stay away. If they can try to screw over someone after something like that, who's to say they won't screw you over in any given situation? I agree with the guy who said he wished there was a zero rating. I was in an accident where a kid hit me and lied to Farmers Insurance, he said it was my fault. I got the car to Hiway 120 and left it there. Farmers never came to see the car. The accident gave me Atrial Fibulation so I needed Heart Surgery. I attempted to explain to Mike why I had not come to get the car,(didn't know Farmers was such a Cheating Insurance company). He said he did not care, called me a liar and said he would ruin my credit with a $2000 storage bill. HE IS NO STRAIGHT SHOOTER. I don't know why Mike has such an anger problem, but I would never use his services! read more

Totally agree that this guy is a complete --- wish I could give negative stars. My roadside company called them, but they refused to accept and billed me $200. Then they towed me 4 wheels down... I asked several times if this would be a problem, and they said it was fine... I since have learned that this is a HUGE problem. Next came the real problems. They damaged both front and back bumpers during towing. Because they would not communicate with me, I called my roadside assist company, to intervene. Their office gal called and gave me all sorts of excuses about how the damage could not be avoided... Finally put Mike on the phone. He simply exploded on me, told me he had a lawyer and was going to sue me...for filing a false claim! First told me that he had witnesses that there was no damage to my car, then switched stories and stated that there was minimal damage, and I was exagerating the problem ( my front bumper is now being held up with a zip ties) Then he let loose a string of expletives and hung up... i was in a motorcycle crash and hwy 120 towing was called in to tow my bike. while i was in hospital, a few friends contacted mike to let him know of my situation. i had two fingers severed and was hospitalized for 6 days. when i was finally allowed to make a phone call, i called mike. he answers the phone, 'hey, whats up fingerless?' COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL! what an asshole. when i go to pickup my bike, to my surprise, mike is an old man midget. he begins to tell me what jerks the CHP are, the same CHP who sub out the tows to him. avoid this prick at all costs. what a true witless piece of trailer trash. read more

Got a flat tire on the way out of Yosemite NP. A tow truck showed up about and hour after we called for roadside service. Josh helped us get our spare on the car. He checked to make sure it had enough air- it didn't. He offered us to follow him to the nearest town where he filled the tire for me. Then he referred us to a couple hotels where we could stay the night, the tire shop to get the tire fixed, and even a place to eat. Such a nice guy. I unfortunately rear ended someone on highway 120. Police dispatch called 120 towing and they sent Josh out. Josh waited with me in 100 F temps for almost 2 hrs for the police to show. He took me to a legit garage (miller bros) and waited for us to get an assessment and then gave us a ride to the campground. Above and beyond. I paid 210 for a 25 mile tow, don't know if that's standard price or not. read more

My husband 13 month old baby and myself (I'm 21 weeks pregnant) were stranded with our camper broken down in Yosemite. They towed us to their lot and let us plug into their shop for electricity to camp until the mechanic was available. She even let us borrow a personal car to get our things from the campsite we were staying at and go to the store. I can't say enough good things about the whole staff. read more

Do not trust mike!! He WILL screw you over. All he cares about is the green.I was involved in a wreck in Yosemite and my car was towed by his company. I picked it up 2 days later and before I picked it up I called to see how much money I needed. He started adding things up and said 540. So I show up and he was out on lunch. His right hand man calls him to tell him im there and he tells him not to release the car. So I threaten to call the police and immediately they release the car to me. They only charged me 440. He was trying to over charge 100 dollars just because after 12pm they charge more. Avoid this place at all costs! read more

I was coming home from a horse camping trip and blew a tire on J132 above Coulterville. I called US Rider who is my roadside service provider. They called Hiway 120 Towing to provide service for me. They were told I was in a 25' motorhome pulling a horse trailer. I won't go into the details, but the tow truck which arrived did not have the proper tools and the driver, although he was very friendly and worked hard to help me, lacked some knowledge in getting the job done. Needless to say the "boss" of Hiway 120 Towing blamed the "jimmy rigged" way the manufacturer installed the spare tire as the reason they couldn't help me, and wanted me to pay $200 to send another truck to get the job done. Being a business owner myself, if you can't get the job done, you shouldn't bill the customer. I refused to pay the extra money so they packed up and left. My husband and a friend arrived shortly after the driver left and had the tire changed with 20 minutes. Hiway 120 Towing tried for approximately 2 hours. read more

Let me say that I really don't like to leave negative reviews and I try to work with the owners of small businesses but in this case I have to say this business earned its 1 star rating. I was involved in a motorcycle crash that required me to be taken by ambulance to Sonora Regional Medical center. The CHP was there when I was carted off and the officer offered to call AAA for me since I am a premium AAA member. Hiway 120 tow was company on call but refused AAA and then charged me $210 per hour for a 54 mile 2.5 hour tow. No recovery, just a pick up my motorcycle and tow. When I contacted Hiway 120 towing I was advised they are contracted with the CHP to perform tows in that area, however when I called the CHP they advised that Hiway 120 tow in NOT contracted with the CHP. They would not budge on the price of the tow which almost 3 times the going rate. They did give me a one day credit for storage ($45 per day) which works out to about a 6% discount on a $705 tow and storage. I have shipped motorcycles cross country for less than that! When I called AAA they were unable to offer assistance either, other than getting my motorcycle towed back to my home. They obviously are the only tow company in the area and do not care about taking advantage of people who have to use their service. That sort of business practice gives the area very poor reputation. read more

STAY AWAY My daughter's truck broke down on the way to Yosemite. She is all of 100 lbs, and 21 years old. This person (not worthy to be called a man), charged her 90.00 to tow approx 10 miles; parked her under a "carport" overnight, while he "waited for the part" (a radiator hose). She was there from 2 pm on Sept 10, Monday, until 5 pm on Tuesday, September 11. He told her the labor charge was 70.00/hr. The part came in on Tuesday, he 'fixed" the radiator hose, it took 20 minutes. Her bill for the hose and labor was 188.00, on top of the bill. AND, not one time did he offer to give her water or anything...(27 hours), or offer to get her transportation to a water/food establishment. Many miles later at 4 AM, September 15, on Interstate 40 E, on her way home, the HOSE CAME OFF AND HER TRUCK WAS ONCE AGAIN TORE UP!!!!!! Some very kind Hispanics at Exit 47, in Tennesee on I 40 East at a local gas station, put a NEW clamp on and charged her 0.00, yes 0.00. This person at Hiway 120 towing, used her old CLAMP, almost causing her to wreck when the steam blew out of the radiator. We are reporting him to the BBB, AAA and his local newspaper.
