Was having problems with pop-ups on my tablet. Took tablet home after I was told problem had been fixed. After charging my tablet I tried to check my email and pop-ups started again; took tablet back the next day; was called the next day and was told the tablet was ready for pickup. The worker told me I should not have any more problems. Took tablet home; as soon as I logged on the tablet the pop-ups returned. This place just took my money and didn't repair my tablet. I have been taking my computers to HL Computers for years. I specifically ask for Patrick Dao who is a dynamic wizard that I trust. Most recently, on two occasions, our twin girls had laptops from 2018 covered by cracked screen insurance. I went to an Assurion store because they were a national brand with possible followup warranty in Baton Rouge, LA where the girls were in school. Assurion immediately told me they could not repair each laptop and would refund me for a replacement. I respectfully declined and ask Patrick at HL Computer for help, instead.  Patrick took the time to research and find a cracked screen for one twin girl's computer; and a hard-to-find camera and more for the other twin daughter's machine. He always acts with speed as if it was his own daughter's machine who needed it for their college classes. I will put Patrick's skills and expertise up against any other repair technician. Even though both machines had hard-to-find parts, Patrick and HL Computer has always given a fair price and reliable service. Keep up the great work Patrick Dao! He is very nice and quick to get answers back or service. He even keeps something under the counter to teach you about new and old types of memory. I definitely learned something and would be ok using him again. However, he doesn't teach you about how you can use the secondary memory as your primary memory - that would ruin a sale. My computer was toast and had to get something "new". (BTW, diagonostics, $85), but he is up front with cost and will apply towards anything you buy. I told him memory was important to me, so he quoted me about $650 for a rebuilt model in his store, including the cost to upgrade the memory on the C-drive and I think it would have included moving files over. Like most computers out there, drive D had 1 or more Teribites. After asking a trusted source, I discovered all you have to do is point the settings to drive D as the default memory and I won't fill that up anytime soon. I took a chance and bought a refurbished one on Amazon for about $150 and saw several new ones on HP around $550-$700. So, nice and quick, but make sure to do your research. He will do whatever you "think" you want for a price. Pretty sure, they all will. Extra info: If you know enough about what you are doing, there is an adapter (called something else though) on Amazon with 4 sides, for 4-5 types of drives, you can use to get files off an old hardrive. Just make sure to copy (copy is faster than moving!! and documents and pictures separately) them and disconnect before rebooting the computer. If you don't, it may try to use the old hardrive to boot. And, pay $25 or $30 and get a highly rated surge protector, which is how the electricity flashed for less than a minute and fried my other computer! read more

Patrick is a miracle worker. My wife and I had a computer built about 20 years ago that I now use solely for audio recording. The programs I use are outdated enough that I can't upgrade too far (Vegas 1.0, two Aardvark DirectPro 24/96 breakout boxes, and two Aardvark DirectMix usb3's when needed...for those to whom that means anything :) ). For the past 9 years, Patrick has kept this system alive. After keeping it on life support as long as possible, when it was terminal he moved it to another computer with a newer operating system, the newest that would work with my components. The hard drive started to go recently, and he put in one with more memory than was available to anyone when my computer was built. I'll never fill it up, and I record a fully mic'd drum set, vocals, guitars, bass, keys, and whatever else. I have yet to lose one audio file from 20 years ago until now (some of it probably should go, but that's a different conversation). I have walked into HL Computer a couple of times when I had resigned myself to the fact that this was it. No coming back. The past is gone. But it's not. Been trading with HL Computers for years! Whenever I have a problem I take my computers to the Stone Mountain shop. Patrick is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Recently I had a Bios issue. He saved the day for as we all have so much on our computers. I asked putting a solid state hard drive in my computer and they performed it all in one day. I searched a lot of computer repair shops read lots of reviews. I have passed HL shop a million times. When I walked in, Carey greeted me and said that someone would be right with me.They were busy helping two elderly women (75ish). They took their time, explaining things to them the ladies were so grateful, that they were so patient, so was I. This told me that I was in the right place. Carey gave me worse case and best case scenario. I left my hard drive praying that they could recover the data. Carey called me the next day to tell me that they couldn't fix it. I asked what I owed them he said nothing. "What" no more Utube for me. All the other shops charge $60 just to look at it. I don't care how far you have to drive this is the place that you want to go to for any computer issues. Data on your drive is like your child you can't trust anyone to keep it safe and protect it. I bought a real nice used pc from HL. They had used computers from $99.00 to $299.00 and they custom made new ones, too. They also sell computer parts and wifi routers, etc. I bought a loaded HP for $235.00 and saved about $100.00 off of the price of a new one that I was going to buy on sale at a big box store. It is just like a brand new machine, except, they had already downloaded and installed all the windows updates, and they downloaded and installed my wifi drivers for me. Really, it is better than brand new out of the box. $ Second trip to HL, because my monitor was blank. I brought in my pc and the monitor and they tested both. My computer that I bought there tested good using their monitor. They tested my monitor on mine and theirs and it was dead so I bought a new one. I checked prices at online stores when I got home. I got a great price on a nice bigger monitor, and was in and out in 15 minutes. They did not charge anything for testing. They even helped me carry my stuff out to my car. read more

This review is several weeks late, but I wanted to let folks out there know that HL Computer provides top notch, professional services. I knew my laptop had a virus and the performance of my laptop got so bad that I could barely use it, I shopped around and read reviews to find someone to help me. HL Computer customer reviews were consistently positive so I called and spoke to one of their techs, Carey. After just a few minutes of speaking with him, I felt confident that I had found the right place so I took my laptop in. Carey and I discussed the issues at hand, he quoted me a very fair price on the virus fix, and he promised he would stay in communication with me if any other issues were found before any work was done so I would have no surprises on the final bill. I left for a trip the next day to spend Christmas with family on the west coast and was gone two weeks. Carey stayed in touch with me as promised and he went above and beyond in resolving all of my issues to repair the severe damage to my laptop hard drive that was the result of me letting the virus run rampant for such a long time. He informed me of everything along the way and I was given the opportunity to make decisions in advance of him proceeding with the suggested fix. When I returned to pick up my laptop, the price he quoted was what I paid and my laptop is performing like new. I will continue to use HL for any future issues with my equipment and confidently recommend them to anyone who needs help with there computers. Found HL Computer when searching for power supply for tablet late on a Saturday afternoon. The good is that they had one. The horrible is that they charged more than twice what the item should have cost. It was NOT OEM as person at counter claimed, which I'm ok with. I have since found and purchased as a backup the exact same item for less than $25. HL charged me $60 which is well above a reasonable markup by any standards. It's flat out gouging. That's what happens when you need something right away, shady businesses take advantage. This is not a good place to do business with unless you are very desperate and don't mind being ripped off. read more
