We found HNLAX by accident as we left the Tumi store a few doors down. My spouse needed a haircut, specifically by someone who has experience and skill with black hair. Mission accomplished! ATMOSPHERE: Apparently they used to be in Pearlridge and moved to this new location at the Waikele Premium Outlets. The vibe is very trendy and modern with hip hop/R&B tunes playing overhead. MENU: Hail, nail, makeup and waxing services. EXPERIENCE: Walk-in's are welcome and we had a short 30 minute wait on a Saturday around noon. Ray did an excellent job! Straight lines, perfect curves, expert fades and most importantly, he was able to work with long-styles on the top which is what my spouse was looking for. Haircut took about 30 minutes or so. I've previously had my eyebrows tattooed by 2 other artists, My shape was out of whack & I found myself filling in my brows daily to correct the work but im not gonna go into details about these other stylists because im here to tell you all about the brow queen Richii :) Richii started with a consultation about what my goals were for my brows, and she came up with a game plan of how she could help save my eyebrows. She corrected my shape and filled in spots that were either missed or didn't hold the pigment. The process of the tattoo was absolutely painless, she used one of the best numbing creams I've ever tried and her private room in the back of HNLAX was very comfortable & has big VIP vibes. Please see attached photos of my completely healed brows, which mind you only took 1.5 weeks to heal, and they healed so gracefully! hardly any scabbing, no pain & minimal pigment loss. I've been following this barbershop on Instagram for a while, and decided to finally go and get a haircut by one of the barbers here. I booked an appointment with Jensen, and he did not disappoint, it was definitely an experience that was new for me in terms of quality and customer service . Typically my haircuts would go over 30 minutes or I would have to wait for another appointment. But Jensen kept it professional and I did not have to wait, he definitely made sure he knew what I wanted, and he definitely did deliver. Hubby has gorgeous luxurious hair, and he's very particular about his hair cuts. We used to go to a salon in Kailua when we lived on the Windward side, but now that we're not there, getting in and making the drive wasn't as convenient for us. We tried a few different salons in the area, but none of them gave him exactly what he wanted. While at the Pearlridge mall, HNLAX caught my eye and we decided to give them a try for the next hair cut; man I wish we had done it sooner! Making the appointment was easy, they called me back quickly and I was able to get the day and time we wanted. Once there, he was seated promptly and his stylist was very attentive to the specifics of what he needed. At the end, it was super easy to pay for his trim (which was a reasonable deal), and we were outta there! Only downside is the music that they play. It's not our style, and it was irritating to me that it was so loud. We have been coming here for years and always see Alika. Alika is the BEST!!! We scheduled our appt as normal and 2 days before our appt HNLAX calls us and let's us know that Alika isn't back yet. So I agree to schedule with someone else who they tell me is just as good as Alika. We show up the day of our appt and a barber named Ed comes up without a mask but brings his attitude. I begin to tell Ed what I would like done to my sons hair. He says that this will be a custom cut so I asked why because we get this exact cut every time and it's the reg price. He begins to point out the two men that are in the shop and says they are also custom cuts. I ask twice how much the custom cut is and he doesn't answer me. Then I ask if there was any reason why he wasn't wearing a mask and again with attitude he tells me it's in the back. He goes to the back to get his mask and while there he tells the guy at the front for us to go see someone else. We go and see someone else and while walking to the back Ed approaches us again and says something like it's just a mask it's not going to save you. And if I wasn't pissed to begin with, now I am. Ed, it's not about the mask. It's about PRINCIPLE, RESPECT, customer service. My son already doesn't like coming out due to covid. The least you can do is respect my son not to mention the law. You are doing a service for us and we are paying good money for a hair cut, this isn't Supercuts! Also Ray cut my sons hair and he did a great job! **Update** As we were walking out Ed say, "Sis, treat other the way you want to be treated." Proving that Ed doesn't know how to act like an adult. He was however wearing his mask but it was on his chin. Proving he has no respect for others even though he knew that wearing a mask was important to my son. I'm so happy with my son haircut I feel so compelled to write this review. This wasn't our first visit to HNLAX we've been here a handful of times. After not being able to go back to our regular barber there (RIL AJ) we were unsure if we would even be back but I'm so happy we returned. After looking through there IG page (@dreempire) and trying to narrow down the other barbers technique and style of cutting that would be best for what my son was looking for we decided to book with Alika. You can call or book your appointment online (hnlax.com). They do take walk-in's but most days they're fully booked; so best to call ahead of time. We showed up about 10mins early for our appointment and Alika was already ready for us. At this time my son had a mullet (not kidding) and wanted to cut it off and get something clean for his upcoming senior luau. What I like about the cut the most is Alikas ability and experience with using a scissors. So many barbers these days only know how to use their buzzers but have very little to no experience using a scissors. Alika did a great job fading the sides and keeping some length and texture on the top. Watching him durning the cut you can really tell he takes pride in his craft. Safe to say...we found our new barber! The haircut overall took about 30mins and it's followed by a hot towel service. The cut cost about $35 before tipping. They also have other services such braiding and women's cut and color. I would highly recommend HNLAX and request Alika if possible. read more

Finally got my post-quarantine cut and did I ever need it. The salon I normally frequent is still closed so on the recommendation of a friend I gave HNLAX a try. I appreciate the ability to book my appointment online and select a stylist or go with any available. I received a couple of appointment reminders via text leading up to my appointment date which never hurts. I arrived early on the day of my appointment and was warmly greeted. Very wonderful customer service! I called this morning to make an appointment and they informed me the earliest appointment they have is at 1PM today. Wow! Did not expect that so I was thrilled. When I checked in, they had me under a man's haircut. Which was no problem, I wasn't too specific when I called. The person at the reception really tried hard to fix the problem (I appreciate him so much!) There was no stylist available at the time, but they offered to fit me in at the 1PM appointment if the person didn't show. They suggested I walk around a bit and they would call me. It was no problem, since it's at the mall and I would only have to wait for a few minutes. They tried calling me when the person didn't show but they were calling the wrong number, so I didn't know that the 1PM was available. (Definitely not upset about this, it happens!) But they also informed me that a 2PM was available if the person did show up. I checked in again at 2PM and they fit me in. I love that they gave me the options and were so open with me. The stylist was also very nice and did a wonderful job with my hair! It's so nice and soft. The softest it's ever been after a visit to a salon. Bonus is that the place is clean and they play really nice music :) It made my afternoon very relaxing. 10/10 would recommend. Will definitely be back read more

Found HNLAX By Dre by accident shopping at the Waikele Outlet Mall for a gift for my mom's bday later that evening. We noticed the shop and was immediately impress with its appearance: clean, stylish, and all of the stylist had great hair from cool colered Mohawks, neatly kept braids, and clean cut on point fades. Much to my surprise my teenage son; who was due for a cut and hates getting his hair cut, suggested we check it out.Immediately once inside we were greated by several of the stylist and asked how they could help us. I asked if anyone was available for a Walk-in. We were checked in w La'inyone was available for a Walk-in. We were checked in w La'i. He was polite and personable. I explain that I've had a difficult time finding someone who could cut my son's hair without messing it up due to the thickness, curly texture, and several cow licks. La'i looked at my son's hair and said "anyone in here could cut his hair, easy." He made some suggestions and said "No worries, I got you!" Needless to say when La'i was finished, for the first time ever my 14 year old; very particular son, was not just happy but actually excited about his cut! Now a week later, I decided to schedule another appointment with La'i for my 10 year old son who has completely different hair from my older son: not as thick, straight more Asian textured hair that can randomly stick up if not cut right. Unfortunately my 10 year old also hates getting his haircut as well, so when I told him he had a 3:30p appointment he was not thrilled. Just as our appointment last week La'i was genuine, kind, and professional. Again, when the cut was done I could see the surprise in my son's face. He loved it! I spoke to La'i more this time knowing my son is going to ask me to help him style his hair so he can show off his new cut at school on Monday. La'i took the time to show me and explain how my son's cow licks lay and what is the best way to work with it when styling. He also made some cut/ style suggestions for future cuts. I bought the the STMNT Statement Shine Paste he used for my 14 yr old and the Matte Paste he used on my 10yr old both sold at HNLAX. I suppose I could have just bought one or the other and used it for both my boys but after listening to La'i's explanation on why he used the Matte Paste for one and Shine Paste for the other I was sold.
