George doesn't want to go out these days. He says "Oh to be eighty again." He wanted Chinese food so I yelped it (using a noun as a verb like the kids do) an spied a 4.5-star place in Norwalk. I said "Ho Ho" trying to sound like Santa Clause, and my wife replied "That's where Tracy and I used to go," ignoring my brilliant entendre. I drove there and ordered what I was told to order. The lady running the counter was fast and efficient, juggling several walk-in customers as well as those who were seated with speed and aplomb. Not Disney-nice, but Asian-efficient. As I waited the ten minutes or so she'd told me it would take, I spied the cans of soft drinks in the cooler and stood up to grab some cash from my wallet. Before I could, the lady brought me a can of Mountain Dew, badged "American Dee" for our country's recent big birthday, and gave it to me *gratis*. That was really nice of her. The portions were more than enough with two main items and pork fried rice, family style. There was plenty of rice left over for George and I had the rest of the Kung Pau beef a few days later. Oh, it listed as being spicy but it really wasn't since I picked past the red peppers. I think it was the Kung Pau. It was good both times. read more

The year was 1989, and I was working at Nautilus Aerobics Plus at the Norwalk Square. A co worker brought in some Chinese Food from a Chinese restaurant. It was the first time I tasted Chow Mein. It was the best thing ever! I drove by last week and I saw Ho Ho China. I said to myself can this be the same restaurant from back in the 80's. It was!!!! They just changed locations. The food is so good and of course I had to order the vegetable chow mein. Yummy just like how I remember it. Orange chicken so delicious and the shrimp fried rice!! Amazing . Solid option, best in Norwalk...no. That goes woks deli across the street. The flavor was a little salt heavy on chow mein but they use thick noddles which is nice. LOVE HO HO CHINA. we have it often - order for pick up. The portions are reasonable, food delicious. I love that they take pride in their food, when they pack it, they make small holes so that the food doesn't get soggy. They put small cardboard pieces in between the to go containers, so they don't get soft because of how hot the food is. The place is always clean and the staff is ready to help. read more

NO OTHER PLACE CAN TOP THAT. My favorites are the orange chicken chow mein fried rice and egg flower soup ‍. I will always recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good Chinese food spots. The lady with bandana has known my family for so long and I would never be able to eat Panda Express ever again because of this place. 10/10 recommend. There are days you just crave for some good Chinese food! My friend is not feeling well and he wanted a soothing hot soup and he wanted the War wanton soup from this restaurant because it has always left good memories in the past. So here we were, two worker-bees indulging on bowls of yummy wanton soup at lunch hour. The only thing missing is a cold snowy/rainy weather, LOL! The portion was generous; the vegetables( sliced carrots, cabbages, zucchini, and broccoli), the shrimps (3 pieces?), and some smooth chicken meat were fresh looking and delicious. You can tell the wantons were homemade because the fillings was very different, it tasted a bit like char siao meat, don't look for meat in the wanton which was just a smear; the chicken chunks in the soup should satisfy you. I have mixed feelings about Ho Ho China, but the things they did well, they did really well. Why the mixed feelings? As others have noted, getting food to-go is your best option. The few tables there don't make it remotely the full-service restaurant I was hoping for. All ordering is at the counter. All drinks are cans/bottles. No ice water, either. Ambiance? None. Now, for the really good? The food. It's excellent. I chose shrimp w/lobster sauce, a old-timey dish I've had elsewhere many times. Ho Ho China's interpretation of this dish was perfect. The fresh preparation made all the difference. This isn't food that's reheated, it's food made to-order and the fresh taste of everything shines through. Even something as simple as their fried rice tasted better than the competition. If Ho Ho China was a full-service restaurant, it might be the best in Southern California. As it is, it's a fantastic choice for a quality take-home meal. read more

Since the COVID years it has lost its charm a little. You get paper plates to eat on with cheap plastic utensils and you no longer get complimentary fried wontons, you now have to purchase them. I never really understood why rice never comes with the entrees. They know damn well a lot of what they cook is normally eaten with rice traditionally. Obviously the price has gone up of course. I ordered Magnolian Beef & Vegetable Fried Rice for myself only. She charged me $30.32. She gave me 2 plates. The lunch special is til 3pm at $11.99. It was embarrassing for me to talk to her. She got loud, waving arms & talking too fast. There was a line so I just paid & took the food. Their food has always been very good but I was over charged no matter what. They don't offer water nor crispy noodles anymore. You have to pay extra for them. Their customer service is extremely bad. The relatives that ran the Alondra Ho Ho were the nicest owners.
