I had booked the reservation through Expedia.com and I tried to cancel before the refund window closed, but for whatever reason, it didn't get cancelled. I called HO HUM directly and spoke with a very nice woman named Alina, who was able to help me after i explained the circumstances. Had a wonderful stay at the Ho Hum Motel! The room was comfortable, clean, and the price can't be beat. It's the perfect motel for a stay-over on a visit to Yellowstone National Park. The check in process was very easy, and everyone I spoke with at the motel was friendly and helpful. There is convenient designated parking for guests and the location is in the best part of town for anyone hoping to walk around to the shops and restaurants. Ms. Bernadine is a spunky older lady with cats...She insists you take the key to go look at the room before you pay...Only vacancy in town...right across the street from the Otter Pub (which serves the worst pizza I have ever eaten)***no affiliation with the Ho-Hum Hotel*** Room and bathroom are spotless...flat screen mounted tv...our room # 7 had three beds...perfect for the 4 of us...best sleep I have had on this trip!!! *PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE REVIEW BEFORE STAYING OR JUDGING* I give this hotel 4 stars, but not for the normal reasons I give things 4 stars. This review has 4 stars because the hotel was cheap, easy to check in to, not crowded, clean, simple and suited my needs. If you are looking for a hotel with free wifi, breakfast, pool, matching furniture, anything modern or any other excess amenity then this is NOT the hotel for you. I needed a hotel after 15 hours of driving. I was only going to be there for less that 10 hours and was to tired to even think of going for a swim or checking E mail on WiFi. I could not justify spending $179.00 for 10 hours of sleep! What this hotel has: Clean (yet very very old fashion rooms). Clean bathroom. Small and quiet. Simple. New flat screen TV's Mini fridge Close parking no nonsense check in and out What this hotel does not have: WiFi Matching furniture food of any kind Phones soaps, shampoo pool modern anything The lady who owns the hotel is nice, simple but also a no bull kinda person. The front office smells very strong of cat odors, but none of the rooms smell like this at all. Cheap, accepts cash, gave us a discount when we came back through 4 days later. I will stay again for a trip like this. If I was staying in West Yellowstone for a whole weekend or more and was going back to a hotel daily, I might stay someplace else with a little more stuff but for what I needed, this was perfect! read more

I see a lot of negative reviews here so I assume people expect to come out to the middle of nowhere and find someone with a hospitality degree running the local Hilton. Yes, the owner is an older lady and definitely has cats, but she was perfectly friendly to us. We strolled in about 9:30pm and after ringing a cowbell for a few minutes she came out and apologized for the wait, as sometimes it takes her a moment to get through a dizzy spell. She quickly wrote up a receipt (for the cheapest room in town, easily) and gave us a key. The room itself was absolutely spotless, even more so than the motel we stayed at in Jackson Hole, and delightfully outdated. Very vintage, warm, comfortable bed, and even had a flat screen TV with full cable. If you need a place to stay after a lot of driving and hiking, and aren't a snob, this is the place for you. It's inexpensive and super convenient. Motels serve a purpose. Not every place can be a 5 star resort. Also, the gravy and Bullwinkle's across the street is to die for. Get out of your element and get some rest at the Ho Hum. read more

Previous reviewers told the truth: the office/proprietor's house smells like a litterbox, she has an abrupt phone manner, and the furnishings are outdated to say the least (worn to the extreme). However, they were also right when they noted that rooms are pretty clean, do not have an odor, do not appear to have bugs or mold, and are probably the cheapest in town. This wouldn't be a great base from which to explore Yellowstone unless you were very unconcerned with pleasant surroundings at the end of the day, but the price is okay, and she seems to have vacancies when all other lodgings in town are full. Probably because the "vacancy" sign is off from the street and hidden. The doors and drapes are not heavy, so you may be treated to snippets of conversation from hoppin' Canyon Street or a crack of light at dawn unreassuringly making its way around the door. After reading the local paper's police blotter ("glasses found," "tan SUV semi-speeding and cutting drivers off," "lawn trimmings dumped on school property"), I wasn't too concerned about being murdered or anything, but don't leave anything expensive here, and don't try to engage in any loud activities you don't want everyone in West Yellowstone to hear. Ahem. On the plus side, the motel now has fridges, small flat-screen TVs, soap (no shampoo), and free wifi (slow but serviceable), and the proprietor insists you look at the room before paying so you know what you're getting into. You could certainly do better, but you could just as certainly do worse. read more

We were returning from Mount Rushmore and did not make hotel/motel reservations at West Yellowstone and the first place with a vacancy sign was Ho Hum Motel. The owner was a very nice older spunky lady, sweet as can be. When we ask if there was a vacancy she responded well that is what the sign says after getting over the shock of her comments we could see a beautiful personality with a dry humor. We stay two nights the room was basic, clean, flat screen TV, very clean and affordable. We will definite stay there again because we were looking for something without the frills and the experience was excellent and we slept well. read more

BUGS! Worst place I've ever stayed! If I could give zero I would. The manager is an old hag that is rude and mean, her office is disturbing. It smells like a cat litter box that is put in your face and was used by ten cats or more. The rooms look terrible, the toilet was leaking out into the restroom and made my brother fall. I asked for extra towels because I used the few supplied to clean up the water. After I received the towels the lady which I believe is called Mernie, told me to I had to make sure to keep it clean because she didn't want a leak WTF? Also the towels smelled like the main office, cat feces and urine. There were bedbugs, moths, and ticks in the sheets, lots of them. After about ten minutes of calling, knocking, and buzzing the door, Mernie finally came out and started yelling at me. When I told her about the bugs she said she's never had bugs. I took her to the room and showed her one, she immediately destroyed it and said it was nothing! I tried showing her pictures which she immediately ignored and called me an a$$h@le and a troublemaker. I asked for a refund but she refused. Don't fall for this trap just because there aren't any rooms available!!!!! And the rooms are way overpriced at $90 for a two bed room.... read more

We arrived at night in West Yellowstone without a reservation, and every hotel we checked was fully booked or other places that charged over $200 a night for mediocre places. We came across Ho Hum by accident. The parking lot was flooded, the buildings looked tacky, the motel office stunk. But the price, $70 a night, cash, worked. Our room had old furniture but was spankin' clean. The owner/manager was a friendly lady, and we enjoyed our stay. read more

Fully agree with the previous review. Stayed there a week with some family while fishing Yellowstone and the area. Was a little nervous about staying due to other review I read online, but the family I was with had stayed there before. And, was returning for good reason. 5 of us total, in 2 rooms. We had 3 guys in the "center" room of the "L" shaped building. Very spacious room, each had our own bed(3),and a single cot in the corner as well. We had a ton of fishing gear, lots of clothes for the changing weather, etc, and still were very comfortable. We had a small couch, and a dining style table in our room as well. Yes, the "styling" of the rooms were out dated. This isnt a resort. This isnt the kinda place you ditch the wife and kids at all day while you go out. Room was very clean, and cleaned every day when we returned from fishing. Beds were comfortable and I slept very well for being one that never sleeps well away from home. Our rooms were quiet, and never bothered by traffic or others even being a light sleeper. Yes, the office smells like cat. This did not reflect at all on our room. The rates were CONSIDERABLY cheaper than other hotels around. And lets face it, we were in yellowstone for the scenery and fishing. AGAIN, not to stay at a resort. The older woman that runs the place was pleasant to deal with, but I agree shes a no nonsense kinda person. Especially if youre trying to low ball the already cheap rates. She had treated my uncles father very well the multiple times hes stayed. One such time, upon check out, requested to stay in the same room when he returned back a few days later. She threw the key back to him, told him not to worry, and it would be clean and ready for him when he returned. THAT is customer service. Wifi would have been nice, but just as a luxury before bed or loading up pictures. Nobody brought any real hardware to need it as this was a fishing trip. Had good service on my cell. My only real complain would be a small water heater. Most of the morning showers were luke warm. But definitely an eye opener as Im not much of a morning person. Im sure if I got up earlier, it wouldnt have been much of a problem. Madison river outfitters across the street for any early morning fishing needs, gas station convenience store nearly next door for that morning coffee (or redbull in my case), you cant really go wrong. Good place to stay, made my first trip out west very enjoyable. Look forward to being able to go back. read more

If I could give this hotel zero stars, I would. It's the backdrop of a disgusting horror movie. The office area smelled like cat feces and urine. Utterly terrifying. I had walked into other hotels in the area and they had just sold their last rooms. I went to the front of the Ho Hum office because I saw the 'vacancy' sign lit. Hopeful but wanting to be sure, I said to the lady in the front office, "hi! Just seeing if there is vacancy." And she responded rudely, "is the sign on???!" And I said that it was on, but just checked because I had gone into other hotels that appeared to have vacancy but had sold out immediately prior to me asking. She muttered some inaudible things under her breath. I asked the rate, but when confronted with her rudeness I politely said 'thank you' and walked out of the area. I saw a couple pull up in their car and I asked if their room at the Ho Hum was nice. They gave a semi-frown and told me I could look at theirs if I wanted to check. Then they said with a disappointing tone that it was the cheapest they could find. I went across the street to the Brandin' Iron Inn and paid more than double what the Ho Hum was quoting. I would rather pay twice to four times as much to not get treated like crap and stay in a hotel that smells like animal excrement. If the office and manager are indicative of the rooms and other services/amenities-- stay far far away for your own health and welfare. read more

Yes, the office smells like cat urine, but the elderly woman who runs is has always been very nice (And I am asian and have stayed their twice). The rooms are clean and does NOT smell. And you can't beat the price of the rooms! There is free wifi, and soap, flat screen TV and fridge. . They replace the towels everyday. And the location is central to West Yellowstone. read more
