Updated review. They have an extensive menu plus dim sum for dinner. They have the dim sum, set price family dinners, special chef menu and then the main menu with; Chicken, beef, lamb, vegetables, lobster, FROG!, tofu, pan fried noodles, soup, just to name a few. This is a seafood restaurant and saw them fishing the lobsters out of the tank. We started off with a family favorite of small size of seafood fish maw soup which could have easily fed 6-8 people. We were a party of 4 . We had extra to take home too. Then we moved onto the highlight which was the crispy Peking duck. We were 4 people and this 1/2 duck was the perfect size. The skin was juicy and crisp and not dry and leathery. This was a delight to have and the star of our dinner. We then moved on the a chef special menu item which was smoked spare ribs. This was a disappointment. We got overly sweetened little tiny riblets with no smokiness. They were super thin and not what we expected. Will kit order this again. The black mushroom with vegetables was ok. I expected the black mushrooms to be more tender and felt they could have been simmered more to make them softer. They were a bit chewy The yang chow fried rice was a bit on the dry side. We ordered the beef noodles with gravy and this dish was perfect with the crispy noodles under a bed of beef and vegetables. This was delicious. We also ordered and nibbled on a couple of dim sum dishes for dinner. The deep fried meat dumplings were not greasy and had a crunchy exterior. We also ordered the lotus wrapped rice which was comfort food satisfying. We had a lively bilingual Chinese speaking waitress who was super friendly and had water, tea, ice water glasses filled at all times. She was helpful when selecting the food items. read more

I have enjoyed my visits to Empress in the past but this visit was not great to say the least. The service and food quality is, and has been, very good as well as having a great variety of different foods including non-shrimp items which is difficult to find at other dim sum restaurants. I have a semi-severe shrimp allergy. I was told by the employee there that the pork and chive dim sum DID NOT have shrimp in it and I even asked her again to make sure. Sure enough, there was shrimp in it and I was in pretty severe pain for a few hours. They really need to take those issues into better consideration. Other than that, I really do like Empress and would go back but will need to open up everything I get to make sure there is no shrimp in anything. read more

Went here for dinner. Walked in and got seated right away. It was not busy even though it was the weekend after the Chinese New Year. The restaurant was spacious. Ambiance was casual. Ordered mostly dimsum. We were disappointed because other things we wanted like pineapple bun and roasted duck were not available even though it was just early evening (6 pm). Food was edible but lacked flavor. I did not enjoy eating there. Nothing stood out. Would rather go somewhere else for Chinese food. Empress is our favorite spot to go to for authentic Chinese cuisine. New fusion & modern spots are good but sometimes you just need the OG thing. Didn't take many photos but our favorites to order are the pork & chive, shrimp & chive, shu mai, roast duck, and Chinese broccoli. The fried noodles and pork belly were also good. There are many carts that rotate around but they also have a menu to order from, and one that has pictures for easy ordering. Stopped by on a Sunday @3pm so it was pretty quiet. At first, staff was great- attentive, helpful, and friendly. Ordered 6 dim sum dished that were all good. But then the same old Chinese restaurant behavior appeared: the staff started having their meal and service prep right in the front dining area. We were done with our meal, so I was hesitant about interrupting their meal. Took a while sitting there cross-armed before someone noticed. It has been a few months since dining at the Empress Seafood Restaurant last time. Quite a transformation for this local staple. Besides painting the awning more eye catching yellow from green, they also upgraded the ceiling and walls inside the restaurant, nothing major, but improved the ambience and functionality of the space quite a bit. The restaurant also hired a new chef with many new Cantonese, especially Taishan, dishes, not commonly seen in town. With these changes and addition, it certainly moved up from my pecking order of favorite local Chinese restaurants. Too bad for to me found all these surprising changes when I went alone for a quick lunch, need to go back with more people to try some of the new dishes next time. What a wonderful and fast experience for Dim Sum! They just added a ton of new items to the menu like chicken shui mai and taro buns! The servers were so helpful in picking out our items! 4.5 stars! We travel over 25 min for dim sum at Empress. We've only gotten dishes from the dim sum carts, so this review is specifically about that. Dishes I won't list all the dishes we got because the beauty of dim sum is the extremely wide variety of things you can eat in one sitting. All the standard dim sum fare is great - shumai, bbq pork buns, har gow, radish cake, etc. I have to give a specific shoutout to their stir fried rice noodle rolls - wow they make it so delicious, cooked perfectly, and not too salty. Service Almost all of our interactions were very pleasant. Carts started rolling by within minutes of sitting down and they were great at offering recommendations to get us started. This is super helpful for folks not familiar with the offerings. I have to knock down to 4.5 because the service can be a bit persistent at times. We need to repeat ourselves that we don't want a dish, sometimes more than 2 times before they move on. Space The restaurant has so much space. Despite dining at lunch on a weekend, there was lots of space not just for seating (we had no wait), but for the carts to move around without interfering with our space. read more

Had a great experience at Empress today! They have a lot of space for big groups and they quick to bring you out your food. We ordered a mix of mostly appetizers and dim sum and we were worried it wouldn't be enough food . Spoiler alert : it was very much enough. My top picks: the potstickers were easily my favorite! They had a little bit of sweetness to them, but were overall a really well-rounded flavor, and also quite filling for a small plate. I also loved the chicken buns which were maybe the softest most pillowy thing I've ever eaten in my life. As someone who isn't a big seafood fan, it was awesome to have jalapeño cream cheese wontons on the menu. They were delicious and I definitely recommend. Staff was so kind and super attentive. They also took a great picture for us at the end of the night, which was very much appreciated. My only feedback is that it would be great to have a little more description on the menu for folks who aren't as familiar with the food. a few things that seemed vegetarian like the stuffed mushrooms came with shrimp which was unexpected( though to be fair, it is a seafood restaurant!) Ah I always crave a good Cantonese Style dinner and this meal was delicious! We ordered all our favorite go to dishes: Ginger Scallion Crab, Green Beans with Pork, Roast Duck, Cantonese Style Chow Mein, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, and Potstickers! I enjoyed the Green Beans dish. I was so excited to see chung choy in it, which added to the flavor profile. The combination Chow Mein was perfectly crispy with plentiful amounts of tender meat and veggies. Ginger Scallion Crab and Shrimp with Lobster sauce was what we expected and executed well. Some of the end pieces of duck were a bit salty but overall was very good. I'd love to try the Peking Duck next time with the buns and the crispy roast pork. I felt the cost of the food was very reasonable with the amount of food given. I love the fact that you can order dim sum at any time. But makes it hard to choose what to order because everything sounds good. The servers were so nice and had very fun personalities, always with a smile on their faces. They made our meal really enjoyable and did a fairly good job keeping our water cups filled. The restaurant was spacious and appeared tidy. We went there on a Saturday night and there were people setting up for likely a wedding event. I'm sure Empress is a place where many Asians have their reception meals and events. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy and was happy to see that they had their own parking lot. In my opinion this is the best Chinese food in Denver. They always deliver the food hot and fast! We order here very often.

I never write reviews but this was the most disappointing meal I've had in my entire life. I spent around $100 for some of the worst food ever. The Hong Kong noodles were as crunchy as raw packaged ramen. The egg custard buns had such a runny inside they spilled everywhere. The shrimp fried rice is soggy and has very questionable shrimp pieces. The crab Rangoons were soggy and burnt at the same time. The dumplings were the least disappointing. Overall the meal was very disappointing and I won't order here again. I have ordered in the past and remember it being good but this time was horrible. We went here for dinner on Christmas Eve and everything was fantastic. I had the crispy fried tofu and it was one of the best tofu dishes I've ever had. We love Empress for its Lunar New Year dim sum. We came on a Saturday before 10am because they fill up quickly. The Hong Kong style dim sum carts come around to each table and you get to pick: pork bun, shrimp crepe, har gow, taro cake, the list goes on. You can also order from the regular menu and we tried the Singapore noodles (it was great!) Staff is friendly and accommodating. We stayed for the 11am lion and dragon dance. Amazing! Ordered takeout from here one night when we were craving a variety of food (dim sum, soup, shrimp and noodles). We looked in our neighborhood for a spot that would fit the bill, offering all of these items in one spot. And we came across Empress. So glad we did! We picked up shrimp and scallop dumplings, egg drop soup, hot and sour soup, pan fried noodles with beef, and kung pao shrimp. First, the food was piping hot and tasted fresh. I was a bit concerned about picking up instead of eating on site, but this wasn't a problem at all. Both soups were delicious! But be warned that the hot and sour soup is definitely on the spicier side. The shrimp and scallop dumpling were so amazing. O already want to go back for more. My husbands pan fried noodles were the big shock of the night. So incredibly flavorful. I stole more bites of his meal than I care to admit. My kung pao shrimp was about average and I do wish that there was more sauce on it to pour over the rice. That is my only complaint from this spot. I will absolutely be adding Empress to my rotation of takeout spots and I bet dining in person is even better! Don't overlook this delicious dining experience! read more

The empress has above average dim sum for Denver at a pretty decent price. I'm a big fan of their siu mai which are massive compared to other places and prices well. Their roast pork with crispy skin is also good. The spare ribs in black bean sauce and congee were ok. Super tasty food but a bit chaotic! I'll cut them some slack since it was Christmas and the place was PACKED. I'm sure it was one of the only places open in the area. Our food came out very randomly. Like we had 1 thing on the table for awhile, then got a few more, and then when we were basically done we got the last item. It's nice and everything comes out at once. I tried Empress about a week ago, and I was slightly underwhelmed. I ordered to go, and got General Tso Chicken, Spicy Basil Shrimp fried rice, and Chinese broccoli. The chicken was ok. You could definitely tell there is plenty of MSG in it. The portions were not bad. But it does take away from the quality of the food. For instance, the rice was mushy towards to bottom of the container. I think the food may be slightly better if I were to go sit down instead of have Delivery.
