I was unsure about trying Peter's again as I heard there were issues after Peter sold the place to some of his long-time employees 18 months ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find Peter in the restaurant, giving the employees a scolding about procedures and being his usual irascible self. He gave my girlfriend a "hard time" when he discovered that she had traveled all over Asia, but had never been to China. It was entertaining to see him (he looks great, by the way). The Web site is very basic, consisting mostly of a picture of the menu and the phone number. I had no problem getting through to a friendly staffer who carefully took my order and repeated it back with no errors. Everything was ready right on time, nicely packed into a large carton. We were helped by pleasant staff and Peter even carried the food out to our car. We ordered a variety of dishes for myself, my girlfriend, and her adult daughter. The Vegetarian Egg Rolls were excellent, crispy and tasty, but we were disappointed that no hot mustard was included. The Fried Pork Dumplings were fair, not quite as flavorful as some and a little over fried. The dumplings in the Wonton Soup were fine, but the broth was awful--tasteless dishwater. What a shame. This was the biggest disappointment. The Orange Chicken was excellent. The chicken was cooked perfectly--tender and juicy--with good seasoning that had a nice kick. The Garlic Vegetables were also nicely cooked, tasty, and well-seasoned. The Combination Fried Rice was well-prepared with tasty proteins, but it was kind of bland. Similarly, the Combination Drunken Noodles was well-cooked, but also bland. The Beef with Vegetables was pretty good. Everyone enjoyed the food, except for the Wonton Soup. This is a nice neighborhood restaurant, but a bit more attention to detail would be good. And, guys, do something about that broth--it doesn't match the quality of the other items and tasted like something out of a can. read more

A wonderful dining experience! Street parking is available so just make sure you read the signs. They do have a small parking lot but it's more useful for people picking up to go orders because they're in and out quicker. It's a small restaurant so not a lot of seating but when we went, there was no one else there people we did notice. A lot of people ordered to go or delivery orders though. The host and wait staff were very friendly. Told us to sit wherever we wanted and they were right over with water. I went with my sister who has a gluten allergy and the waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu. He was able to tell us if anything had gluten in it or not. I don't remember what my sister ordered, but I got the teriyaki chicken. The teriyaki chicken came out hot and fresh! The flavor was good, nothing really stood out just normal. I did think the sauce texture and thickness overall was really good though. It's a really nice place and I definitely suggest dining in! My entire family loves Peter's! I will not order from anywhere else if i am craving Chinese Food. The food is always delicious. The price can be high but the service, the amount and how quickly the food is ready is worth it; Especially knowing everyone that makes this place operate lives locally. The last time i ordered, it was 8:40 which meant they were closing in 20 mins. I was 15 minutes away and they had my order ready and waiting when i pulled up at 8:55! Lots of other places would have let the phone ring or said it was too late. Peter's made sure we had dinner on a busy night when we were too tired to cook! I've come here a few times and I respect the place and it's always fast hot and fresh. The staff is awesome and it's affordable. I just wish places would list every main ingredient because I'm allergic to something they never seem to mention is in a dish when I ask but it always comes with it. I've given away more than a few plates when they include things not conveyed when asked or listed on the menu. There were 6 of us and we were able to get a table at the restaurant. The seating area is very small and is primarily set up for takeout orders. We had three gluten free dishes (almost all can be made gf which is awesome!) - kung pao trio, Szechuan chicken and beef with broccoli. Cooked perfectly- vegetables were Al dente and fresh. The food was absolutely awful. We have eaten food from Pete's Chinese Cafe for many years and it was my go-to place. But today's meal was terrible! I hope I don't get sick. The rice was mushy and only lukewarm. Sesame chicken looked and tasted terrible, and seemed like it had been deep fried more than once because some pieces were so hard you couldn't even bite into them. Finally the shrimp with green beans was barely edible. The shrimp was OK but only warm and the green beans were limp, mushy when usually they are crisp. I won't be going back. $35 for food we could not even eat is not acceptable Do better. We will find another place. Sorry to see you go read more

Sadly, I think we've had our last order from our old favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant, Peter's Chinese Cafe. The last few times we've been the food hasn't tasted so great, and tonight's spread didn't either. Too salty, too this, too that. (The cream cheese crab wontons, though, still hit the spot.) Just can't do it any longer. The sign outside now says "Employee Owned." I guess Peter has finally retired. Thanks for all the great food over the years and for always being a little bit special, an authentic place we knew was our own. So many occasions! Time to find a new special Chinese place. Solid choice for classic, somewhat greasy, Canto/American cuisine. Every dish I ordered was rather good: Excellent S/S Pork not too greasy and nice crunch. Great fried rice. Vegetarian dishes were actually very good with crisp veggies that tasted fresh. Huge menu for just about any palette. Service is friendly and the kids at the front are really sweet. Peter is a character and very charming. Personally I wouldn't dine in as it is a true Triple D...but for pickup/delivery these guys are aces. Fair prices No MSG I will be back. read more

i want to clarify that my high score is based on the delivery service at peter's, which is absolutely amazing. my food always arrives quick and still super hot, even on this cold, winter day. this evening, i ordered a small egg drop soup and sesame tofu. the soup has small pieces of corn in it, which i love because it adds a crunch, and the tofu sauce is the tastiest, most delicious sesame tofu sauce i've ever had. the tofu is crispy as well, truly!! no comment on ambiance or the physical restaurant itself. read more

After literally years of making excuses for not driving a few extra minutes to Peter's, I broke down last week when pondering my dinner options from the Cherry Creek Mall parking lot. They say a picture's worth a thousand words. Maybe so, whoever "they" are. We got takeout. I took no pictures because we were really hungry. This place needs none because what they're doing is is simply ineffable. No one could put into words why we liked the food so much, but we did. Mu shu pork was to die for and isn't common on East Denver or even Aurora menus known to me. Beef lo mein was stellar, notably the beef quality, something often subpar, buried in rice/noodles at many Chinese/Thai joints. Pancakes and egg drop soup were nothing special, but on point. Everyone was friendly and chill. Even though I live a few miles away, I felt the "neighborhood" vibe. The other people waiting seemed at ease and gave warm thanks when their food came out. Peter's fits my vision for Chinese takeout. We'll l happily drive an extra 5 minutes for our new favorite. read more

Our friends wanted to try this popular place that has been part of the Denver food scene for over 30 years. We later read that in 2025, the original owner transferred ownership of the restaurant to his employees, some of whom have been with him since the start. Peter's Chinese Café serves a standard Chinese-American take-out menu. We had General Tao Chicken ($15.75), Beef with Broccoli ($15.25), Sliced BBQ Pork with Sesame Seeds ($9.75) and Sesame Tofu. The best dish was General Tao Chicken (crunchy pieces of deep-fried chicken in a thick sweet and spicy sauce). Skip the overcooked pork dish (BBQ pork reheated in a sauce). read more

Was seasoned perfectly, fresh and not salty nor greasy. It appeared to be primarily a to go restaurant. There was be couple in a stall. For those looking for a fancy restaurant to eat at, this is a great hole in the wall! There was many bags of food ready for Uber or individuals who ordered over the phone. So that was also a great sign when I walked in. Parking is rather limited. There was no MSG in preparing the food. If I'm in town again I would come here again for a meal. Peter's Chinese Cafe is a Denver staple in my opinion. It has been around since I was a little girl. Peter is hilarious and kind. He doesn't remember but 8 years ago I was down on my luck and super broke. I could only afford white rice (yes that's how broke I was). He gave it to me for free. I walked home crying thinking of his kindness in the freezing cold during the below zero degree Colorado winter of 2014. For the most part I get the Mongolian Beef, Beef and Broccoli, Green Curry & Coconut Milk with Chicken or the Moo Shu Beef. The Wor Wonton soup is tasty and the egg rolls are good. After a long hiatus, we ordered dinner from Peter's last night and was not good in anyway. Start with egg rolls tough bland exterior filing tasteless and not much of it. Orange beef tough and bland sesame chicken difficult to discern difference from the beef tough and not tasty. I really enjoy their Sesame Chicken. It is very flavorful and crispy. I do recommend asking for extra sauce. I am not a fan of the fried rice that comes with the combo. The hot and sour soup is delicious. When Peter owned it my party was not always allowed to dine in. That may of changed with the employee ownership. This is by far the best Chinese restaurant I have ate at in Denver. I do recommend checking the bag because I have come across some inconsistencies. I got takeout from here for the first time last week. The cashew chicken is the best I've had in Denver by far. Delivery took about an hour. Overall I was very happy with everything. If you look at the 1 star reviews for this restaurant it is usually about something trivial. "I got the wrong food one time" "the phone number didn't work" - those of you that leave bad reviews for local restaurants for something insignificant (and also possibly your fault because communication is hard) should be ashamed of yourselves. Ok, so I have been wanting to try this place for years!!!!! I finally stopped in today and I would have to say... place looked filthy and smelled, but not like food, more like mop water and feces. Once I got home, I found the sesame chicken good, but not great. The fried rice was also just ok, along with the egg roll. I have to say Im sadly disappointed after all the build up. The Westword named this place in the top ten, honestly I think Panda Express might be better. More than likely I will not be back. read more
