I stopped in to find myself a new, dark blue, full zip, Hobie hoodie. They were out of mediums and smalls! Come on! The flagship store of my favorite classic surf brand is out of there most iconic gear in the middle of Winter. I think someone in purchasing or merchandising, or logistics or store management needs a good talking to! All was not lost, the girl manning the register was so friendly and helpful. She apologized and tried to interest me in something else. Then she suggested I check the warehouse in San Juan Capistrano. I did. I found exactly what I wanted at 40% off. I was so happy I added a lid and t-shirt! The store was very nicely laid out. It was clean and cozy on a mid winter night. We walked across the parking lot for a quick dinner at Hennessy's Pub. I always stop by when visiting SoCal. Great selection of clothes and a great selection of boards. I did some birthday shopping for friends and family that hang out at the beach. Even if you aren't a beach bum, great casual beach attire that is hard to find anywhere else. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. When my husband asked me if I wanted to go to the Memorial Day weekend sale at this great Hobie location, how could I say no? Not me! I love cute clothing and a great sale, and this store had both! This was a great day for an outdoor sale, and there were racks and racks of items just outside of the store. Although I didn't find anything for myself on this visit, my son and hubby found lots of nice things. The sizes might have been picked over on the women's racks, but there were plenty of styles and sizes for the guys. My son found great button up shirts, a nice hoodie, and some very cool Volcom t-shirts. My hubby made out like a bandit too. Most of the items were 40% off, and he stocked up on great t-shirts and even some nice button up shirts for Casual Fridays at work as well. My husband had also been looking for a paddle board, and they had a decent selection of those too! The clothing for women was wonderful here at well. Beautiful displays highlighted bathing suits and other great summer clothing. I love all the fun summer colors and pretty patterns. They also had a nice selection of sandals. I also liked looking at the cool activewear (shirts, running pants, sport bras) here as well. The service was great here! Even if they staff was spread thin (this store was soooo crowded), the employees remained friendly and helpful. The store was really organized considering how busy this store was while we were here. We had no problem finding everything we needed. With a great selection of clothes, reasonable prices, and wonderful staff, this is a great store to stock up on some fun summer clothing for kids and adults alike! read more

My mother, sister, and I (all brown women) had the unfortunate experience of being followed at this store. A young blonde employee kept lingering behind us as we shopped. She never approached us to ask if we needed help, instead she kept a close eye on us, pretending to refresh the inventory. There were plenty of other customers she could have been engaging with but instead she walked around suspiciously eyeing our every move. She didn't do this with my dad (a white man) nor any of the other customers there (all of which were white, as well). Experiences like this are infuriating and distasteful. Awesome shop! I get my family swimsuits here every year and when in need of a last minute gift this is the spot. We have been shopping Dana Point Hobie for years and the staff is always very friendly helpful, they will even gift wrap for me . During Covid I noticed that they are asking customers to wear face masks as all the employees are required so it's always good to be respectful of those who are working so we can shop. I live in Laguna Beach and we have a Hobie shoo in town, but this one has section that carries surfboards and a shaping room, now my story gets better I went on a lark to see if they might have a board I'd been looking at online at Hobie.com as I prefer to see the board in person and usually I buy custom boards. Well low and behold there it was I was stoked shaped by Michael Arnel and the resin tint looks so much better in person I bought right off the rack first time ever. Other than their Memorial Day sales (if you dig hard enough you might find something for a good deal), I find myself avoiding this Hobie location. A nod, hello, and/or a smile goes a long way, but any kind of pleasantry here is seemingly forbidden. In fact, I think the employees go out of their way to make sure you *know* they're ignoring you on purpose. It's so meta, I know, but honestly the last few times I walked in, the hourlys would make eye contact, then turn away while gossiping amongst themselves. "You can't sit with us!" Oh no darlings, fortunately for me, I've graduated high school. Managers aren't exempt either. Clearly this attitude oozes from the middle (management). I know what you're thinking: "Well maybe it's just you! Do you have resting b*tch face? Did you shower? Were you wearing last season's Roxy apparel, attempting to relive your youth even though you're well into your 30's?" Does it matter? Even if all of the above were true (and they might be... hey, I just got out of the water!), can't a sista get a shout out? It's Dana Point, where local businesses are always friendly. Cause nothing says Hobie Aloha Fun in the Sun than the proverbial cold shoulder, right? Too big for your britches maybe? I wonder... if I was a camera-strapped tourist I'd probably get some love, cause then they could bamboozle me with their not-worth-the-retail-price-of $45 rock-encrusted jewelry. Went in to get a gift for my daughter who is out of state, they looked up sizes on the computer, helped me find a great tank, as well as great selection of surf jewelry , they have tons of great gift ideas! I typically have gone to the Laguna Beach location and have always had a great experience. Went into the Dana Point location today since it is closer to my home and it's not the same. Employees are rude, inconsiderate, and honestly it felt like I was in Hobie's in Nazi Germany. Very uncomfortable. Will never come back here. read more

Clean, friendly and overall great selections of items. A little pricy, but that is most surf stores in the area.

Few shops in Southern California have retained the original charm of our history of surfing like this spot. Love the fact, that it's not a huge corporation with generic stores in malls with low quality items. This spot is the real deal, and was impressed with all their history on the walls. My experience was a cross between walking in to a surf museum and shopping for some cool beach attire. Not sure who runs their customer service training, but need to hire him/her for my employer, because the young man who helped me pick an Aloha shirt provided me a concierge level of service. While the checkout counter had a few people inline (2), when I was up, the female checker (brunette), asked how my experience was, and if I found everything I was looking for, and was super polite. Was impressed, and actually just signed up now to right a review. It takes a lot for me to sign up for another app, so this review is sincere and the team at the shop should keep up the good work. I have been coming here for years as a long time Dana Point resident. todays experience may likely keep me away from this location. I was asked three times in 5 minutes by three different sales associates if I needed anything, c'mon this borders on harassment and at the least is annoying to a browsing customer. It professional and expected to greet and ask once but in retail most know once is enough and attentive respectful staff is aware and knows not to continually ask. There has to be restocking or other duties to keep them busy! Like most I am very capable of asking for help if needed. Also I couldn't shop in peace because three to four employees were engaging in a loud personal conversation across the store about their summer plans. This went on for the entire 15 minutes I was in the store. How obnoxious for what is suppose to be a workplace not a meetup and social networking for teenagers! read more

So I have spent hundreds of dollars at this store and I have to say my experience was appauling. I came into the store and the alarm kept on going off. I was wanting to see about buying a bathing suit. I was approached by a blonde woman and she seemed froiendly enough. I was only there for a moment and decided that I would come back later. As I am leaving the alarm went off again. I am then approached by a young man smiling ear to ear and he says,"Excuse me ma'am we think you are stealing." I then show him my purse and tell him I have nothing to hide, the blonde woman was standing right behind him and then the owner who knows me by name asks how I am doing? This was the most unprofessional thing I think I have ever experienced and I have no desire to spend money at a place where I am treated like this....Needless to say Hobie in Dana Point is disappointing at best and overpriced. I can find the same clothes cheaper at the outlets or Killer Dana and won't be accused of theft! read more
