Great selection for young adults, men and women. If I am with family or by myself, it's rare to walk out of this store empty handed. My keenly knowledgeable Orange County sherpa wisely instructed me that Rainbows are the only type of flip flops worth purchasing. My mind was one tracked toward the flip flops so I didn't spend much time looking at the shop's other offerings which include beach gear, hats, sunglasses and swimsuits. The sandal selection is extensive, which is unsurprising considering this store's proximity to the beach. If i could give 0 stars I would. this place is fatphobic. I went here with my boyfriend and no one helped me or asked if I needed help but were so quick to help the thinner females in the store. They saw I was looking and two employees just kept talking to themselves. I overheard one employee with short blonde hair at the time say to the guy employee that's not going to fit her." To that employee: the dress for me by the way. Again, fatphobic so don't expect help or any kind of customer service. Maybe it's not because i'm a larger woman with actual curves and maybe it's because i am A POC? I wouldn't be surprised if it was both. Regardless, get better employees. here is a tip: stop being fatphobic and help your customers regardless of what your fatphobic opinions are. read more

The surf shop looks great and has beautiful products. The only reason I gave them 4 starts was the customer service. They were always asking if I needed help, way to much. The funny part was, after looking around and finding what I was interested in, it was hard to get help and I had to walk to the counter. They just hit you up like crazy when you walk in, then forget about you. As a retail manager, train your employees to walk around and be available but not pushy. Other than the rookie customer service, I love this store so much. I could set up a living room in there and live out the rest of my days surrounded by my vibe. read more

The girl that worked there was so nice and thoughtful and was saving a hat for herself that was my size and was so considerate she ended up giving it to me. Great quality clothing and fantastic service at Hobie downtown Laguna Beach. My husband found several sweatshirts here and they offered us a military discount making the clothes a good value. I have bought at least 25 pairs of Reef sandals over the years at this store.They refuse to replace the most recent pair that broke. They say it is not their responsibility and gave me the email of the Reef company to take it up with them.The Reef Company has never gotten back to me. I absolutely ADORE Hobie Sports... It's one of those staples from childhood that you just can't live without. If you need a swimsuit...go to Hobie!! HUGE selection of suits for all sizes as well as a plethora of flippy floppys and Crocs. Racks of sundresses, hats, towels, sunglasses, and all things Laguna Beach. My boyfriend and I were in Laguna one day and the weather turned out to be nicer than we had first thought it was going to be...so we suddenly had the urge to go to the beach. Unfortunately we weren't prepared for the sun so off to Hobie we went and a half hour later, each donned in a new swim suit and carrying a towel...we headed off to the sand. So if you ever find yourself in need of emergency swim stuff...look no more. Hobie really does have it all!! Hobie is one of my favorite stores to shop at downtown. I always find the most adorable bikinis and boardshorts at Hobie for me and my family. They also have a huge variety of clothing; they have so many graphic shirts to choose from that I often find myself picking up more than just a few tees for my boys. Not only do they have fashionable clothes, but they also have handcrafted surfboards and paddle boards as well. My boys love to admire the boards and dream of learning how to surf as soon as they get a little older. read more

Nice selection of beach attire...flip flops, bathing suits, sunglasses. Hobie's features skateboard gear and surfing gear so you can have your child out there skateboarding and surfing all in the same day. I noticed that they did not sell Oakley sunglasses which I wear but they offer Von Zipper and Electric plus other lines that are less expensive. The clothes can be expensive but most surf & skate clothes are at any shop. The classic sweatshirts & t-shirts were 40% off. I scored. Friendly staff, I think they were trained well. read more

Like Miriam W. I was in search of Rainbows when I visited Hobie's. It was a super sale time. Boy howdy it was busy and reminded me of the Christmas rush. Lucky for us, we did not get killed. The deals were fantastic, but not a Rainbow in my size. However, I had the great fortune to be in the presence of a girl I just met from Chicago (if I could review her on yelp she would get all the stars!) who sniffs good deals and oozes good taste. She found a dress that had some damage to it, but was beautiful and such a good deal! I bought it! I cannot say surf shops are really my thing, nor the beach culture either (I'm terrible afraid of getting old too quick in the sun, so I keep myself super pasty white and I'm proud of it). Nor do I particularly like shopping; the visit to the fitting room can be just so awkward (I just tried the dress on over my clothes in front of everybody, heehee). Just rolling in on a beautiful Laguna beach day just to see if anything peaked our interest. The staff dropped their current inventory count to simply smile and greet us . Mitch who has only been there for six months was courteous to ask if we needed any assistance with anything .. When I told him we were just browsing he didn't give us a brush off . It made me want to buy something from him . He showed me where the item I was asking about was. He gave me some other options and suggestions . Just to set the stage: I'm a 50-year-old home owner and resident of Laguna Beach. I'm also a CEO of a software company located in the bay area (I work from home office here in laguna). For the record, I do my best to always support the local businesses. I recently purchased 4 pair of shorts from Hobie. The shorts had drawstrings on them. When I washed the shorts all of the drawstrings came out and I was not able to get them back in the shorts. So I went to the Laguna Beach location to return the shorts ($60per pair). The manager asked if I tried to get the strings back in I said yes, but was not successful. She asked if I tried using a safety pin, I said "No" she said well that's how you fix them. I said regardless I shouldn't have to deal with this every time I wash my shorts. She said well I can return 2 of the pair not all 4. I asked why she said well its a start. I said no you should stand behind the product you sell and return all of the shorts and I said all or nothing or I will donate them. She smirked and said "oh well". So I donated them. The manager could have very easily returned the product to the manufacturer, but she was trying to prove a point. I spend well over $1,000 per year in their stores and this is the first time I have ever had a problem. Needless to say, she lost a customer for life. I will never step foot in their store and I will spread the word. There is a saying "for every action the is a reaction" Its really too bad. I can purchase anything I need, but like to help out the local shops. This is one shop I will never patronize . I hope management learns from this tragic treatment of a local customer. read more

The store is quite friendly and is nicely situated in Laguna Beach right off of Forest. The staff is nice and knowledgeable. I won't be de-ranking for this but the selection isn't exactly my favorite. As a trendy guy I prefer more of the style of the store like active or skate shop for my clothes are not as beachy as this place is. You can get a cool skateboard longboard surfboard here if you want among some other interesting items so deathly check it out and there's always some cool people coming inside and outside is definitely a tourist spot. read more

I have gone here quite a bit over the years and have seen a lot of changes at the store. It is large and has a good layout and clothing selection, with many surf brands and quality beach attire. There are handy beach items too like hats, bags and flip flops. Love the jewelry selection at the counter. One thing that has not changed is the employees are mostly young teenagers who are there to socialize with the other employees and not too interested in customers. When I went in yesterday there was a girl cashier parked at the counter talking on and on with two guys about various classmates. I asked her a few questions trying to get info about unmarked items I was interested in. She answered as quickly as possible and went back to the guys, then walked away so she wouldn't have to talk to customers anymore. They need some older manager types to supervise these flakey kids...it would make a big difference in the atmosphere to have employees present who actually care about the customers. read more

They have a huge wall of sandals and I always find some piece of jewelry I can't live without. Their staff is super friendly and they know their stuff. On several visits, I've found the staff to be engaging, fun, informative. This store is a perfect slice of Laguna Beach with fashion, surf, supplies and gadget to help with anything from a day in the water, on the town or a fireside beach night. Their recent remodel of the store made it more bright, and fun. My last buy was a pair of polarized sunglasses that are great and about $50 less than a comparable national brand.
