Fresh fruit was flavorful and there was a variety of fruits. 1/2 carafe of mimosas was just the right amount for the two of us. Our only complaints: the outdoor seating had metal tables and no umbrellas for shade and there were so many flies outside so we had to escape and sit at the bar. It's a really small, cozy place. Started with cocktails, Chocolate Martini, Bullett Bourbon, Firestone IPA, Sir Maple Cocktail, try to be there before 6 for happy hour! We had starters, Pimento Hush puppies were awesome, Scallops cooked to perfection, Oysters were unbelievable. On to entrees, RockfishBLT, Shrimp and Grits, Pan seared Rockfish and Braised Short Ribs. I was leery about eating here after reading some of the less than stellar reviews. A friend insisted that we needed to give it a shot. I am so glad we did! It's fantastic! Three of us went for a Saturday night dinner. We shared the fried green tomatoes and the fried oyster appetizers. The sauce for the tomatoes was a perfect accent for the crispness of the tomatoes. The oysters were so well prepared, not gummy and not tough. We decided to share our entrees as well and we were able to get 3 extra plates. Between us we enjoyed the Shrimp and Grits, Fish and Chips and the Potato Gnocchi. All 3 dishes were well prepared. The Shrimp and grits had just the right touch of smoke from bits of crispy bacon. The breading on the fish was delicate with the fish flaky and fresh. The potato gnocchi was light and tasty with fresh vegetables and shreds of sharp Parmesan. My husband and I met a friend for dinner last night and were excited to try Hobnob based on the glowing reviews, I am sad to say there was nothing to rave home about. My husband had the braised ribs and I had the rock fish both were under seasoned, sincerely had no flavor. The Braised ribs were over cooked and the Rock fish was under cooked. My fish came with Brussel Sprouts that I couldn't eat as they were drenched in vinegar. Our friend had the braised ribs as well and same issue. I am being generous with the rating as our service was great and the cocktails were good. For the quality of the food, it was extremely over priced. I am not sure where the high ratings are coming from but it's sure not what I would come to expect from a 4 and half Star restaurant. Disappointing but we won't be back nor will I recommend. I usually always give places a second try but it was so bad. It seems to me that after COVID restaurants have hiked up prices and lowered the bar way low on quality. Most amazing food I have ever had. By far my new favorite restaurant! I ordered the fried chicken sandwich which has sooo much flavor. The chicken is seasoned amazingly and all of the toppings on the sandwich compliment each other so well. We went in to get brunch before heading to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens and it was delicious. We had a big group so we got to try a bunch. The cinnamon rolls were a great start, warm with a generous sour cream icing. The shrimp and grits were cheesy and featured plentiful, huge, shrimp. We had a plate of carrot cake pancakes, the first time we tried that, and it did not disappoint - no need for the syrup that came with them. The omelette was good, but the other dishes that were a little more fun kind of overshadowed them, including the chicken and waffles and the gingerbread waffles. I am not sure how they can fix that because of the two doors leading to outside seating. Nothing special or particularly good about the oysters.
