My partner and I were looking for a nice place to get dinner after visiting the grand opening of the Universal Arts Teaching Gallery in Shockoe Bottom. We landed on The Neighbor on Mac Arthur Avenue in Bellevue (based on a recommendation by a co-worker). We had a great time, trying both a dinner special, a Turkey Melt, and a menu staple the Edgar Allen Poe Boy, with shrimp. Both were very good. The highlight of the meal was dessert, a blueberry and raspberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. It was a perfect mix of warm fruit, a tasty crust, and vanilla ice cream slowly melting on top. Safe to say that I may have a new favorite breakfast spot and I'm really happy with my experience. The moment I looked at the menu, there were so many good options to choose from and I was already plotting on coming back. This time though I ended up getting the breakfast burrito with potatoes and a strawberry lemonade which I couldn't stop thinking about. Everything sounded so good it was hard to choose. We started with the French toast and split it. Never had French toast like this before and I'm not mad at it! Fan to the tastic. We went for brunch, Great selection of breakfasty and lunchy items. Wyfe settled on the breakfast burrito, which the restaurant had no trouble customizing (excluding peppers.) It was really really good. I'd guess 4 scrambled eggs on it, maybe they will correct me. Adding a meat option like bacon or sausage, if offered, would have been added by Her but we were not asked. My Wilson was basically a smash burger. Everyone offers one now, but this one wqas very well seasoned and very VERY well cooked. The special sauce was all the condiment moisture that was needed on this one. The bun held up and it was a great meal. I selected tots as my side, and the portion was more than I could reasonably eat. Nice! Could have used more salt, but I took care of that. Service was attentive, if a bit confusing. Three different people stopped by, including one who (THANKFULLY) asked if I really wanted additional mustard since the smash sauce was full of it. Great ask, thank you. Perfectly executed brunch! We had Croque Cristo and Shrimp and grits- and both were excellent. Croque was soft French toast covered in crispy cheese and ham with an egg- sweet and salty- everything! This place was awesome! We've been seeing a few Instagram post here and there and finally got the opportunity to try it out with our two boys! This place was great for our boys, with special needs, and they worked with us so well. We typically go for a booth table, which was great to block our kids in and to prevent them from escaping. We went to dinner pretty early, I would say around 4:30, and were seated quickly. They provide fun placements and crayons to have the kids color and...they have fans!!! haha The few times we've been here has been a successful with not only our boys, but the FOOD is delish! We love the kids menu, it's plentiful and we always have leftovers when we leave. Their specials has been a success with us too! Check out the photos, the food flavor and presentation is def there! Parking can be tight if you're going during the lunch/dinner rushes. Be sure you know how to parallel park! Hasn't been a problem for us to find parking since we're going during their off busy time. I've been wanting to visit Neighbor for some time now and am happy I finally stopped by for lunch. There is free street parking out front. They have a mix of indoor and outdoor seating available. I came on a weekday and was seated immediately. Although I only tried one sandwich here, I get the sense they are known for their sandwiches. I was able to try the fried oysters, hot honey Brussels, neighbor salad, and Mrs. Chanandler Bong sandwich. My favorite was by far the sandwich. The arugula pesto really complimented the sandwich. My fiancé loved it. I also really liked the hot honey Brussels. I wish the fried oysters were a bit more crispier and I wasn't a fan of the hoppin' John salad. I liked the pecans and feta in the neighbor salad. My server was super kind and helpful. I love all the natural lighting in their space and the cute mural. This is my new favorite spot! I came here with my sister for breakfast and the next day came with my mom! The food is really good here! The French toast was out of this world and the steak was cooked perfectly! The place was so freaking cute and casual. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful with any questions you may have. I came here for a late lunch with two friends. We arrived just before two and there was only one other table of two inside. One friend and I both ordered the Kimmy Gibbler with a side caesar salad, and my other friend ordered the Wilson with tater tots. The food was really good, but it took over a half hour for our three sandwiches to come out, even though there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant. Our server Courtney was very pleasant and attentive and she gave great menu recommendations. I do wish there was a HH menu with the info for the drink specials but Courtney did a great job clarifying them. The food was delicious! I ordered the hot honey Brussels as my app and they had a great flavor, I wish they were more charred and had a slighter kick but they were good. Now the buffalo chicken dip and chips was probably the best thing I had and I didn't even order it. The dip was seasoned perfectly and the chips made it that much better; I'm not sure if the chips are homemade (I didn't ask) but they sure tasted like it. I love potatoes (chips, bakes, mashed, and especially fries) so the chips and the French fries I had were perfect. I added bacon to my burger and it was just what I needed because I wanted something filling. I'd recommend this restaurant to couples, solo diners, and families. I stopped by Neighbor with an out-of-friend shortly after picking her up from the Staples Mill Amtrak station. It's located in The Mill's former Bellevue space. They've added plants and a fresh coat of paint. The set up of booths/tables/bar remains the same. I ordered the Bold Rock berry peach cider along with "The Wilson," which is their play on a smashburger. I really enjoyed both. Plus, our friendly server offered a side of ranch for my fries when I asked for no tomatoes on my burger....super nice touch!! And the ranch was delicious! My friend's turkey sandwich looked quite good too, and she enjoyed it. Neighbor is a Northside gem and will be a new go to spot. We had a group of 5 and sat at one of their booths up front. All of the staff was so incredibly friendly and attentive. We ordered a round of appetizers the brussel sprouts, fried mac and cheese balls and the loaded fries. Mac and cheese balls with their ranch was to die for. For entrees the butter nut squash gnocchi was the winner of the table but everyone raved about their entrees. We also ordered deserts the brownie sundae and a slice of seasonal cheese cake. Multiple staff members checked in on us and we were even able to speak with the head chef! I loved how personable all of the staff were, it really felt neighborly. Can't wait to come back!! I went to Neighbor with a friend for a relaxing dinner and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. I was quickly seated and we quickly ordered which was great. I had been to The Mill before and I think the way it was redesigned felt a lot roomier and open from what I remember of the prior establishment. My friend and I both decided to get a mock tail and a salad. I got the grapefruit one which was light and refreshing. I got the Neighbor salad and added chicken which was sweet from the cranberries but also had a great kick from the spiced pecans. I love the whole strip of restaurants on MacArthur so I know I'll be coming back. read more

Our first time here and I must say I was impressed. We ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and the burger. The chicken sandwich was extremely 'herbie', meaning that's all I tasted was the herbs it was seasoned with. The fries were mixed with other fries of a different potato so we assumed they ran out but no big deal. Just less herbs on the chicken next time. The burger was a burger but it was pretty good. It could have been the oil or the sauce it came with but I particularly was not a fan. It had a bitter taste to it. The rest of my party had the smashburger which everyone said was delicious. We also had the fried green tomatoes and the sauce didn't mesh with the sweetness of the tomatoes and they were really wet, making it hard to eat. I was so sad to see "The Mill" close as I was a long time supporter and live in the neighborhood. The menu for Neighbor looked inviting, so I finally went to try it. I pray they're still working out the kinks, because it was a complete waste of money. I ordered to go. It took about 20 minutes longer then they said it would, despite the place not being very busy at all. Everything was bland (zero seasoning at all, overcooked, oxersauced, and just boring. My steak was ordered mid-rare, and they sliced it for me even though it was to go. I only live a mile away, but it all the juices had run out by the time I got home and it was well done and chewy. The chimichurri they served was lacking in any taste, and the sides were as bland as could be. They sold me on some chicken dish that wasn't on the menu and said it was better than the one that was normally on the menu, but they weren't serving it anymore. It was just 2 chicken thighs they grilled and doused in bbq sauce. Served with pretty much raw veggies that were supposed to be cooked, and rice. The Caesar salad was supposed to have dressing on the side. They did indeed put dressing on the side.....but they had already sauced the salad. More like drenched. It was pretty much ruined. More importantly, the ratio was so off. More shaved cheese and croutons than lettuce. I mean, boatloads of croutons. The highlight of the meal was the buffalo chicken dip and homemade chips. Sad that a cheap app was the highlight of a $95 meal with tip. But still, the chips and dip lacked any seasoning whatsoever. I will say that the staff was extremely friendly while I was waiting for my meal. I'll consider giving them one more shot in a month or two once they've hopefully worked out the kinks, but I figured they already would have done so after 5 weeks. read more

What a lovely hidden gem in the heart of Bellevue. Excellent from start to finish! From the FOH crew, to the delicious food, to the amazing cocktails, to the fair prices, and understated, but very cool decor, I'm definitely impressed. I've been there about three times now, so this review is long overdue. This is regarding my most recent visit, but they've all been consistently wonderful. We started with the chips and Buffalo dip, which is probably the best I've ever had. They make the chips in house and they're absolutely perfect! Not too salty which always ruins the chips and dip appetizer at other restaurants for me. I then had a Cesar salad with both chicken AND shrimp (I'm a protein gal) and while yes -- who can screw up a salad? -- it was perfect with fresh ingredients and (what I suspect to be) homemade croutons. I didn't ask but it was pretty evident. Further, I absolutely detest soggy salad and this isn't it. The lettuce was very crisp, they didn't overdo it with the dressing, and did I mention the croutons? lol I washed all of this down with probably the best Moscow Mule (done right -- should we call them Ukraine Mules now?), and even though I was beyond full, we finished it off with a shared slice of divine Key Lime pie. Seriously, run, don't walk. The service was quick and personable. Our meal was quick (I recommend getting there early for the lunch rush) and spot on in every aspect. Food is wonderful! Turkey sandwiches are so boring, but Neighbor had the BEST turkey sandwich I have ever had. It was sliced turkey breast that was browned in a pan, served on sourdough bread (which was delicious) , topped with bacon, tomatoes, lettuce and onions. Delicious. Others got the french dip, smashburger, Caesar salad, Brussel sprouts, and kids chicken tenders. Everyone enjoyed their food. The downside was that service was so slow, but wait staff were great.
