Food is amazing so based on this reason I'm not giving it 0 stars. However, I visited this establishment and the only option they had for seating was the uncovered patio which was totally fine since I did not have a reservation. I sat down and first ordered an appetizer and a cocktail. My waitress seemed to be a little "off." She took my entree order only to then ask me 15 minutes later would I like to place an entree order. I told her that I already gave her my order and she looked dazed. My appetizer came before my cocktail and so I just drank the glass of water I had. When my glass of water was empty I asked my waiter for another refill. She never brought the water but proceeded to help out another table beside me (all men) making sure to cater to all of their needs therefore forgetting all about me. I had to ask another person for a glass of water after waiting for so long. It then started to rain after I received my entree. No one acknowledged me at all or asked me if I wanted to move inside to the covered area however the wait staff acknowledged every other table and helped them move their stuff to a covered location. My waitress never once came back out to check on me or to see if I was moving inside. I waited for a few minutes to see if someone would eventually check on me and no one ever did. I sat there for a few minutes but then I eventually got up and moved inside only because at this point I wanted my check. I'm not really sure what the issue was with the lack of service today and I'm a pretty big tipper because I know how hard it is for wait staff I todays climate. I could speculate a few things but Hobnob please do better and treat all of your patrons fairly especially when you never know who is visiting your establishment. Small venue, but very comfortable. Friendly greeter and competent waitstaff. Crab hush puppies were crisp on the outside and mount and flavorful inside. Spicy remoulade. Pimento cheese and grits served with crispy hoecakes. Enough for four, easily. Pork bbq with watermelon and peach salsa. Rice, I think, flavored with pork juices. Crisp grilled zucchini and squash. What a fantastic find! We were looking for a nice lunch stop on our long drive back home from NC and saw this restaurant right off of 95. We were so relieved to see great COVID safety measures in place- everyone wearing masks, tables well spaced, a nice patio for outdoor seating, and spotless bathrooms. In addition, we were able to enjoy some fresh and delicious food including the king trumpet BLT, fish and chips, beet and goat cheese salad etc. The service was impeccable as well. I finally got myself here last night and had a great time. The reservation process was easily done online. When I had questions the person on the phone was sweet and helpful. Parking was a bit of an issue because they were so full but that's a good thing for them so not a big deal. There's parking across the street at the little store that's allowed and parking on the street. I didn't realize we could park in the store lot so I was on the street. The menu selection was great and hard to choose but I ended up with the crab soup of the day (not a creamy soup, but brothy, light and delicious). I also got the seared tuna salad which I loved. The tuna was probably a little more cooked than that I'm used to and prefer but it was a delicious salad with arugla, mixed greens ,watermelon radish, grape tomatoes, avocado...and ginger dressing. My friend had the nicoise salad which is what I will order next time...if I don't get the pimento cheese smash burger or a smorgosboard of their apps. I had prosecco and my friend had two cocktails, both of which she really liked. What a great find on the north side! My wife and I went for dinner and were very happy to have been introduced to this place. Pleasant service with a cozy setting. Patio seating also available. My wife had the BBQ sandwich with an intriguing tangy sauce. I had the shrimp and grits, which was near the best I have had. Creamy grits with bacon mixed in. Three of us went to Hob Nob on Saturday evening for a delightful, tasty dinner. With a reservation (a must) we were seated promptly in the main dining area and attended to immediately. The menu, which changes seasonally, was appealing in all categories, from appealing starters to mains, salads, sandwiches and sides. The server also offered two soups, cauliflower and New England clam chowder. The latter was one of the best I've had. One diner in our party had short ribs, served with brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. The ribs were excellent, the sprouts could have been could just a bit more. Two diners had salads, a unique "crispy potato and arugula salad" with burrata cheese - thoroughly enjoyable. The special cobb salad was judged excellent as well. The wine list offered a nice range of selections. By the time we finished (7:15pm) the joint was jumpin' with diners lined-up outside waiting for tables. Nonetheless, we never felt rushed. This, our second visit, proved to be just as good as our first: a totally wonderful experience. read more

A really good menu that we viewed online brought us here & we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere is bright & sunny, they have a deck ,the service was great & my philly cheese steak special was so flavorful and perfectly accompanied with sweet potato fries. If you are from out of town do not attempt to go here. We walked in as they turned on the open sign. There were 2 people sitting and 4 others who walked in for the entire restaurant and nobody else came. We were told our table of 8 would over load their kitchen and could not take us?! My guess is the kitchen staff didn't feel like starting work yet. Pretty disappointing. Unfortunately had a wait at the next restaurant we went to since we wasted time trying to eat here but at least they wanted to cook for us and earn revenue. read more

Their sandwiches are so tasty and to die for but their Mac & cheese on the other hand is a bit dry and it was so dry I had to add extra cheese. Their carrot cake is soooo delicious it, the cream was perfectly whipped and is was the best thing in the world. read more

Perfect neighborhood restaurant. I came here after hearing good reviews and realizing it was right around the corner: we will be back. Excellent service from our friendly and sweet waitress, great drinks, and excellent food off a well thought out menu. We came back for a drink and an app that evening, because we had such a nice time. Don't leave without a slice of the key lime pie. The crust was perfect. I ordered the Mushroom Rigatoni which was divine, the pimento cheese dip (yum), the beet salad (perfect) and for lunch, the fried green tomato sandwich. I'm a vegetarian, so I'm always happy when the menu has interesting and delicious items besides a house salad or spaghetti. I had the shrimp and grits, served in a bowl with plenty of savory sauce...yes, this dish does need lots of sauce! We ordered various items and all eight meals came out hot and perfectly timed. For dessert I had the salted caramel cheesecake--divine! HobNob truly is a Hidden Gem, tucked away in an established neighborhood. Very disappointed to say the least. We went for brunch and ordered the chicken and waffle and the biscuit and sausage gravy platter. The waffle was undercooked and the syrup had an unpleasant, overwhelming pepper flavor. The chicken was good. The sausage gravy was horrible and made the biscuit inedible. Aside from the flavor, the sausage also appeared undercooked. The waitress was told this and she did ask if we wanted something else from the menu.. at that point, everyone at the table already had their food and we were in a time crunch. The waitress said she would tell the chef, yet the check came out and we were still charged for the full amount of that meal. For this reason, I will not be back to try their lunch or dinner menu. read more

Visited Hobnob for the first time yesterday, and, WOW, what great food. Tried the Reuben Sandwich along with Sweet Potato and Peanut Soup as our side and I can't express how delicious all of it was. The Reuben cornbeef had been slow roasted (not from a deli-style) which made it extra fresh and tender. The soup had a great crunch and was seasoned perfectly. This place is a hidden wonder! Hobnob is the perfect addition to Lakeside and I wish more restaurants would follow their lead. First off, I love the location. It's tucked right into the neighborhood creating more charm to the lakeside area. We have ordered takeout, dined in, and even had catering from Hobnob. Each experience has been great! So I had the eggplant parm tonight and I am struck by what it WASN'T. The eggplant wasn't bitter and the sauce wasn't too tart; the dish had just the right bite to it and tge flavors were spot on. The serving size and price point was a just where it should be. It was nice to walk in and be met with helpful staff who helped me pick a dish that would travel home well. Don't miss this hidden treasure! The best meatloaf and best burger we've had in RVA. We haven't had take out or gone out for prepared food in 2.5 months thanks to COVID-19.
