My one star is because of their extremely poor and this is even before I could go to my appointment. We had scheduled a massage for two of us for the afternoon. However, there was a medical emergency and we couldn't have made it. We called a few hours earlier to let them know we couldn't make it that day but would love to reschedule for the weekend after. Right off the bat, as soon as I told the lady who answered that we couldn't make it, she started yelling at me. She did not bother asking why we couldn't make it. When I tried telling her calmly, she got even more riled up. I told her I get that they would have liked a much-earlier notice, but it was an emergency and obviously not a plan to cancel on a massage we have been looking forward to for a while. I told her we'd reschedule right away, instead, she said she's making a note to make sure they would charge us extra for when we came in. She yelled/was rude and kept snapping at me, without letting me complete one sentence. I wish I could have got her name. Instead, I told her that just because of her the spa had lost two clients. Perfect for a private party. The services are innovative. One of my favorite treatments is this massage that closes with the massage bed being covered with a steam tent. I went to Hoboken Wellness Spa last weekend for ear candling and a facial. Ear candling was awesome and I'd definitely do that again however the facial was so not effective. I do many facials from micro-deem to lasers and know when an aesthetician knows what they are doing. I asked Surinder how long the peel stays on my face and she said 3 minutes but took it off in probably 30 seconds. There were no extractions even though that's what I requested and she pretty much told me her fancy machine did all the work because she doesn't want to work anymore! To top it off they over charged me by $100 and I didn't realize it till I got home. $180 for a facial there was NOT worth it. It'd pay $50 for that facial but for what they charged.....GO TO BLISS! read more

4/2015 Update - Hands down the fastest Brazilian wax EVER. No one likes getting it done, keeping the procedure time limited is key. I was in and out under 10 minutes. While the wax wasn't anything fancy and the sticks she used wasn't new (I think as it was already in the wax container when I walked in), 24 hours later, I am alive and well to tell the tale. It was a little after 6 the night before Christmas Eve when I called the Hoboken Wellness Spa for a last minute Swedish or Hot Stone massage. The first person I spoke to (now I know is the daughter of this mother daughter duo) asked if she could call me back to check the availability for the evening-- understandable as they close at 8pm. They call back, this time I speak to Suri, the mother, who said because of the short notice the following day would be better to book an appointment. After explaining to her that I live no more than 3 minutes away by foot, she was more than happy to take me in for a 7pm massage. I was a bit nervous for a few reasons upon my arrival: 1) I had only gotten one massage prior to this at another location so I'm a bit of a newbie, 2) I never had confirmed which kind/how long of massage I was getting, so I was concerned about how much I'd be charged. But Suri worked her magic hands and I decided that whatever the cost of the massage was I'd pay it in a heartbeat because it was just that good. By the end of the massage, I felt like a new person. Suri had worked on my most tense areas (shoulders and neck), as well as the rest of the body, and the oils she used were wonderful as they left my skin feeling soft as ever, and not sticky as I've heard about other spas. Although she used Hot Stones, I was only charged for a Swedish massage, to my delight! As a new resident of Hoboken, I am finding my favorite spots in town- this being one of them. I have been to a lot of high end massage places and also super inexpensive Asian style massage places. I have the constitution of a squirrel that drank too much espresso. Today, after my 88 year old father had a stroke one week ago, I was a total wreck when I walked in for my first massage here. I was such a stress case and feeling so ill from the stroke hospital vigil and other recent events, that they actually thought my father had died from said stroke. (He's a Marine who served over 20 years so a major stroke isn't going to take him out) I decided to try Hoboken Wellness because of the most recent review and they offer Ayurvedic treatments, which I've always found highly effective. I was very fortunate that I got an appointment the day I called. Massage to me, is sort of a thing one needs ASAP if one is in really bad shape. My massage therapist Brenda was the best massage therapist I've ever had IN MY LIFE. (I'm no spring chicken, okay!) I had a 90 minute deep tissue massage, and not only did she know her medical anatomy, her technique was masterful. Not anyone can go to school and be a massage therapist. The outstanding ones have a true intuitive gift for healing. Brenda left me feeling stress and pain and headache free. I felt a complete serenity like I have never felt in my life. I have had Reiki also in my life, and although my eyes were closed, I could feel at one point that she intuitively knew I needed some. I felt the energy and remarked afterward that I noticed she performed reiki without my asking for it. Brenda is really special, so if you are physically stressed or in emotional pain--she's a healer. I have fallen in love with Surinder and her daughter Mandeep. They are so wonderful and make me feel very comfortable. The spa is clean and modern. The staff is very friendly. The space could use a deep clean, there was hair on the floor in the bathroom and the decor is sparse. My massage was good, but not great. When booking I asked for someone very experienced as I hadn't had a massage in awhile and really needed it. My therapist, was very nice and professional, but not a very skilled therapist. Some moves she did on one side were not repeated on the other. I felt relaxed. My room didn't have any music either, which didn't totally bother me but I can see how it would bother other clients. I probably wouldn't do another just because I don't really see the point. Seemed like she knew what she was doing though. Place was clean and friendly.
