I haven't made seen an optometrist in over 10 years, so when I asked one of my girlfriend's for a recommendation, she recommended Hodes Optometry to me since they were conveniently located on the Westside and she had a great experience utilizing their lunchtime appointment option. I initially tried to schedule an appointment online, but the office was unable to book my desired times. The receptionist called me back and I was able to schedule a Saturday appointment two weeks later, which worked for me. I would recommend calling rather than trying to schedule online, just to save time and get an appointment quicker. Once I arrived, I was graciously greeted by the receptionist and offered, water, tea or coffee. I quickly filled out my new patient paperwork and was whisked away to my first round of tests. Dr. Hodes was extremely helpful and knowledgeable when going over my results. He walked me through different options and even helped discuss some options for my leftover FSA dollars. He and his team did a fantastic job fitting me for a new set of glasses and communicating the details of my VSP coverage. Would highly recommend. read more

Because I think my regular ophthalmologist is retiring, I thought I would get my eye examination here and I was pleasantly surprised and pleased about how thorough Dr. Hode was. I've never had glasses before I got a prescription from Hodes Vision Optometry. When I ordered glasses (from a different company), my vision was still blurry, so I needed to get my eyes re-checked to see if it was a problem with the glasses or the prescription. It took Hodes a month to book me in and I didn't complain. When I finally had my appointment, they told me it'd been more than 3 months so they had to charge me - which was not what I was told on the phone - I was told it would be free. And when I told them I thought it was crazy that I was paying again, the woman behind the counter gave me a blank stare and acted confused. Obviously I wouldn't recommend this business to anyone. Seems like they're just out to get more money out of you. If I was going to be charged, I'd have gone somewhere else to see if the prescriptions matched. read more

I want to order a new glasses frames for my daughter because the last one I bought here. When I ordered on Tuesday they told me I can pick up on Thursday. I paid the money then after two weeks they told me I need wait until one and half month later or I can choose buy another new one just because they don't have that now. They didn't want to solve the problem just want to sale another one.The manager was very rude and screaming when I called her, she said that's her original voice. My dog accidentally kicked me in the right eye, causing a fairly large cornea abrasion- something I've never experienced before. It was scary and painful. Dr. Hodes took excellent care of my eye and saw me each day as it healed. He took the time to explain what had happened to my eye and even showed me photos of the actual abrasion as it healed, calming my worries and concerns. Dr. Hodes always has the new and latest technology and loves to use it to explain things to his patients. It's fantastic!! Especially, if you're a worry wart like me! From the jaws of defeat: last week I had every intention of leaving a one-star review, and to never do business with Hodes again. So - how did we go from one star to five? Stay with me... In June, I took my polarized Ray-Bans into Hodes to have the scuffed lenses replaced: I tend to wear the same Wayfarers or Aviators, and would rather pay to keep them in shape, as opposed to just buying a new pair. After handing the glasses off, I was told that it would be a coupleof weeks to process: the glasses had to be sent to a lab, and replacement parts ordered from Luxotica / Ray-Ban. No biggie. But after a couple of weeks with no updates, I placed my first call...apparently the lenses were on back-order, and would take a little longer. Hodes promised to call me with an updated ETA...but that didn't happen. I placed a few more calls, and received a few more reactive responses. Everything from "are you sure we have your frames" to "Ray-Ban doesn't make your lenses anymore". I agreed to default to Plan B, which was to have the lab make the polarized lenses themselves. Not authentic Ray-Ban parts, but anything to get the drama finalized. (Fast forward to September 1) Like I said - my plan was to pick up the sunglasses and then run home to write that World's Sh*ttiest Yelp Review. But that plan was dashed when they handed me a brand new pair of Ray-Ban polarized sunglasses - perfect size, perfectly adjusted for my head, perfect color, etc. Beyond pleasantly surprised. I'd still say that there's a lot of room for improvement in terms of order tracking and organization, but I'm beyond impressed with the end result. Thanks, Team Hodes! read more

Dr. Hodes is easily the best doctor I've ever seen. I've currently been battling an eye infection in both eyes and have had the best recovery thanks to him. Although my prescription is very slight, I have been fighting wearing glasses for some time. Well, the time has finally come where I need them for distance and night driving. I've never worn glasses, other than sunglasses, so picking out frames can be a real chore. Emelda assisted me for 45 minutes with picking out and trying on frames. I don't enjoy this process since I am not comfortable wearing glasses. But she made it enjoyable. She had an unbiased opinion as to what looked good on my face and against my skin. Her kind, sweet demeanor mixed with her knowledge for her job made my experience at Dr. Hodes' office better than I could have imagined. Dr. Hodes hired a exemplary, smart, knowledgeable, professional employee when he hired Emelda. I am grateful for her assistance. I would not recommend Hodes optometry; I've experienced much better from my childhood optometrist or much better customer service. Also, in LA, go to EyedLA--they're more detailed and thorough. Of course, it could have affected things since I came in an hour before closing. Upon entering, I already had my prescription in hand and wanted some sunglasses. I originally wanted Ray-Bans but their selection was limited. They offered the typical, "We can order it for you." Any optometrist can do this but the reason I visit the place is to actually try the glasses on and figure out what looks good since I have a round face, I typically want glasses which help slim the face. A younger gal who looked like she was in high school tried to assist me, keyword 'Tried'. She did not suggest any frames--she only pulled frames from the shelf for me if they were locked up. This was kind of frustrating since I wasted about 30-minutes trying on random frames. I never knew that I should now appreciate store sales reps who suggest frames. I'm not sure why they have a younger gal working here if she doesn't suggest any frames which would look good on the customer. Also, when looking at the glasses, I didn't appreciate that they had red stickers and green stickers on the back side/front side. If it was on the inside, the 40% off sale no longer applied--this was pretty confusing since I found myself thinking, "Why are these not on sale anymore?" My last complaint regarding this place is it took 2-weeks to get my sunglasses. That's waaay too long. At another optometrist, they have a 72-hour or at least no more than a week turnaround time. To top it off, I called Hodes around 5x to which they only returned one of those phone calls and to find out my glasses were ready, I had to call them. That's not acceptable when compared to other eyeglass places like my regular optometrist. I think I'd rather drive to Pasadena than come here. Go to EyedLA nearby instead, they're awesome!!! read more
