I simply cannot rave ENOUGH about every single experience with every single person whom we had the PLEASURE of working with throughout our ENTIRE process with Hoffmann Brothers... Our gem of a friend/family (Michael Barth) represents this company so well, that when we found one of our heat pumps recently frozen over (on balmy November 18), we bypassed even the company who has faithfully maintained our systems over most of their 13 years & had an HB service tech scheduled to visit us THE NEXT DAY!! On Tuesday 11/19 Mike Skikas arrived promptly as promised & endured the grueling process of uncovering the countless maladies affecting not only our upstairs 2.5-ton unit, but also our main floor 5-ton system. It was quickly determined that the iced unit was beyond repair, but also that the plethora of issues needing-fixing for the main floor system were quickly approaching the replace-instead line. All this while patiently & ever kindly explaining every thorough detail also to my husband who was on the road to Chicago! One call to darling Sarah Beetz & we had an instant visit planned for a Project Manager to come & assess our replacement & upgrade needs... SAME DARN DAY!!! Within the hour, dear Brian Bischof arrived & had already been in discussions with dear Mike, still on site! Yet another HB rep, SO patient, thorough, professional & inclusive of my traveling hubby needs to discuss all remotely, we determined to move forward with a brand new whole house system AND were even able to get instant 0% / 18-mos financing thru Hoffmann Brothers!!! It is important to also point out that I was in the middle of a monster self-imposed makeover of all my kitchen, breakfast & hearth rooms cabinets, walls, moldings, light fixtures... & anticipating FIFTY folks for Thanksgiving only nine days away!! I was told that we would be sent two teams for the two systems (one in an attic) likely main floor on that Thursday/Friday & upstairs on Monday/Tuesday, "best they might be able to do" with holiday approaching, etc. BUT WOW WOW WOW on Thursday morning 11/21 WE WERE BLESSED... With TWO TEAMS arriving precisely at 7AM as promised AND THESE FELLAS ROCKED IT!! Simply amazing... Chris Valentine, Vince Hobein, Joe Remphrey & Joey Evansco SWOOPED IN TO WORK THEIR MAGIC ALL DAY LONG... Kind, courteous, respectful, professional... & when they left there was not a speck of evidence that they'd had such a monstrous job to tackle WHICH THEY DID IN ONLY ONE DAY... Including haul away of all the old ****!!!! Darling Vince even returned early Monday morning 11/25 to re-build (& SUPPLIED NEW) a PVC gravity drain that was installed by our builder that traces the front of the lower level HVAC unit "inadequate" for Hoffman Brothers standards AT NO EXTRA CHARGES & WITHOUT US EVEN ASKING!! There are EVEN MORE awesome details I could provide, but I will restrain... except to also shout out our precious "Customer Experience Coordinators" Erica & Tracy who brave the front lines of this EXCEPTIONAL TEAM of AMAZING PEOPLE, QUALITY & SERVICE!! I mean seriously folks, how often does one invest $20K (without being able to drive away in it...) & not feel a little bit sick about it!!?? NOT US, NOT THIS TIME, WITH THIS AWESOME COMPANY!! I recently contacted Hoffmann brothers to look at my loft heat pump. The unit was having trouble cooling during the summer, and when I switched over to heat for the heating season, the unit would not supply any heat. The compressor was running only a few seconds before tripping off, so the problem appeared to be a low Freon level. I set up an appointment with Hoffmann for a convenient time, since the problem was a non-emergency. They ended up missing the first appointment until finally making it to the second. Not a huge deal. As suspected the unit turned out ultimately to be one-pound low on Freon, which was enough to trip the compressor (the unit was relatively small). And the leak which was very slow, appeared to be from the fill connection which had a trace of oil on it and a broken plastic cap. So far, so good. The tech left to write up an estimate to replace the Freon and he came back and gave me an estimate of over $400 to replace up to 2 pounds if needed. Needless to say I was taken back by the cost, and while I had heard the price of R-22 had gone up, I was expecting a lot less. I was left in the position of paying or getting someone else, so I ended up paying. The final bill for showing up, putting in one pound of refrigerant, and two metal ¼" caps which the tech gave me for free, was $451.00. This price was after a discount for not showing up to the first appointment. Later looking on E-bay, I found that you could still buy 30# of R-22 and all the necessary gauges and equipment to charge a unit for far less than the $400 that Hoffman charged for one pound. I have put this down to a lesson learned, but I recommend that you look elsewhere or at least get a firm price before they show up at your door. I should add that I am a mechanical engineer and while I don't work in the HVAC industry I am not unfamiliar with it. I am also not an idiot. The tech also quoted me another $400 additional to replace the low pressure compressor switch, which retails for maybe $100 at McMaster Carr, if needed (it wasn't) I also asked what a replacement unit would cost (just killing time) and I was given an estimate of $12,000 to $15,000, for a unit that should be less than $5000. So I as left with the impression that they were hitting me for what ever they could and that I would not be doing further business with them. read more

Before finding Hoffmann Brothers I had already dealt with 4 different AC companies. After just having a baby and two kids under 5 it was really stressful having to deal with a hot house on top of constantly replacing parts for a unit that wasnt working. Me and my husband already knew that we would likely need a new system but were so upset after spending so much money on the old one that we were hesitant to call anyone else. Well after another hot night I decided to do my research and after rigorously reviewing company after company Hoffman Brothers stood out the most. The main thing that prompted me and my husband to call was the list of guarantees on there website. After dealing with all we've dealt with that showed us that they were a company that stood behind their product and valued thier customers. The staff on the phone was very courteous and friendly and got me in immediately they sent emails and phone calls letting me know where the technician was and when he'd be arriving at my house. Once he got here( Luke) he was so thoughtful and let me know everything he was doing. After confirming what we already knew he was able to get a comfort advisor out to the house the same night. When the comfort adviser (Nick) showed up he was very polite and informative he answered every question that came to mind, even after hours. He was very personable and didn't force our hands do anything. He simply let us know our options and put it in a standpoint as if it were his house. They were able to install my new unit the very next day! With the other companies it was days before they came back to refix the problem. My installation guys (Chris & Alex) were so sweet as they were very mannerable, efficient and thorough. They answered all of my questions throughout the entire process. Hoffman Brothers went above and beyond and I couldn't be more grateful for a company like them in such a critical time of need, my only regret is not calling them sooner read more

Hoffman Brothers is THE BEST contractor I've ever worked with. Repairs always come with being a homeowner, but I've never hired a company I was so completely satisfied with in every aspect of the process. Hoffman Brother's work ethic, professionalism, knowledge and friendliness far surpassed previous companies I've hired over the 13 years in my home. I discovered I needed a new furnace and water heater after my home was not able to get warm; water had been slowly streaming around both units. In addition, the sinks in both bathrooms had begun to clog on a frequent basis. I contacted a few companies, but ultimately, it was Hoffman Brother's that stood out from the rest. It was an added bonus to hear inspectors also mention the high quality of work Hoffman Brothers is known for when they came out to inspect. Tony, the plumber, was first out to unclog my bathroom drains. After I told Tony this happens at least every year or so, he didn't leave until he made sure everything was in working order, even though that meant he had to look at other drains in my house. He set the bar pretty high for everyone else that was scheduled. Steve M. assessed my furnace and water heater. I've never had to make such a large purchase, but Steve walked me through everything. His knowledge and expertise, along with my experience with Tony, sealed the deal. I even decided to install a new air conditioner being that mine was over 20 years old. With everything, the price was less than what another company quoted for only the water heater and furnace. Joe R, and Kyle C. and Adam D. installed my furnace and water heater and I couldn't have been more pleased. A purchase this large was scary in the beginning, but feeling like I had people who cared about the work they do mattered most and help put me at ease. I just signed up for the Hoffman Brothers Home Protection Plan for my furnace, boiler and air conditioner. The secretary, Elizabeth, was very helpful in discussing the options for repair and maintenance. A future review will convey the results of the repair and maintenance. Kirt B This is written the next day. I had the Hoffman repairman named Jeff out to work on the boiler which had a problem emitting Carbon Monoxide into the basement. Jeff did the diagnostic work on the boiler and then took measurements in the basement and then determined that the problem with the Carbon Dioxide was that there was a negative pressure in the basement environment as far as oxygen for the boiler, and the forced air gas furnace and the gas fueled water heater. There wasn't enough oxygen to feed to furnace and it was drawing some of the heated air out of the front of the boiler instead of letting it go up the chimney. I am very grateful to Jeff for having the intelligence to see the problem. Neither the installer of the furnace 10 years ago, nor any of the three workmen from another St Louis HVAC company had the astuteness to detect the problem. Unfortanately, this situation caused damage to the heat exchanger in the furnace, and it will need to be replaced due to rust. Fortunately, Jeff detected this problem as well which could also have caused Carbon Monoxide to be released into the basement. Safety is first. I am grateful to Hoffman Brothers for hiring very capable people. As I said above, two other companies were involved in installing and maintaining the units, and neither saw the problem arising. I am glad as well for having signed up for the Home Protection Plan. This reduced the cost of the visit and the work on the boiler. It also allowed a maintenance check on the furnace which resulted in the discovery of a danger with the rusted heat exchanger. Thank you Hoffman Brothers. read more

We've had a service agreement with another AC company for the past two years. Recently that company has decided to not honor our agreement. This past 4th of July out of desperation I called Hoffmann Brothers for an emergency service to remedy a problem since the previous company had missed the past two scheduled services. Unlike the previous company they answered my call. The experience for the first service call to "band aid" the problem and the follow up to actually repair the issue was flawless, accommodating and professional. Our house is on the market and the technician, Jimmie, accommodated us perfectly between two showings. He offered to bandage the issue and leave until the potential buyers left or stay and fix the root problem, our call. Given our house selling situation and my wife and I's non standard schedules they managed to accommodate us with a next day repair after Jimmie located the coolant leak. Bear in mind our roof needs a 40 foot ladder to reach our roof mounted external AC unit. Hoffmann Brothers could not have been more fair or accommodating. The location of the leak was plainly shown to my wife and I and the explanation of why the needed repair was clear. At no point was I left guessing. Our problem is a leaking evaporator coil. This cannot be soldered because the leaking copper melts at a much higher temperature than the aluminum cooling fins. I've had hit or miss experiences with AC techs. I can't say anything bad about this company. They'll be coming tomorrow to fix the problem once and for all. If my experience is less than 5 stars I'll be sure to update this review first thing. My gut feeling is I will receive top notch work. read more

So to begin the people who deserve 5 stars are - Christian, Angela, Mike, and Jason. They went above and beyond to make sure our tankless water heater/stove gas line were taken care of and that we were happy customers. Somebody to be leery of and someone who doesn't deserve a single star is - Dominick - He is who gave us an initial quote and quite honestly the reason we went with Hoffmann brothers. He answered every phone call and text of questions we had about having a tankless water heater over the course of about 3 weeks. As soon as the men arrived to install the water heater, they informed me that Dominick didnt include a stove gas line like we asked and it would be an additional $600 on top of what we already agreed to pay. Immediately, I went to Dominick confused about why he didn't include it and he didn't answer. In fact he never responded back after 10+ phone calls numerous texts over the span of a week - basically he got his paycheck and ran with no care of what we may have to go through to find someone to fix this issue. So, Here we are with a brand new gas oven/stove top with no line to go to it. So I called Angela - she acted quickly to be sure we were taken care of. Christian, the master plumber, called me at exactly the time he agreed to and got our issue taken care of. No arguing or anything. The plumbers - Mike and Jason were both super professional and great communicators. We will use Hoffmann Bros again, but will never deal with Dominick again. I had a new HVAC system and humidifier installed this week by the wonderful team of Vince, Calab and Chris. I could not have asked for a more professional and capable group of well-mannered young men. Vince was punctual, at my door at 7:00am as scheduled. I took him downstairs to show him where everything was and he explained how the installation would be done, how a tarp would be laid to protect carpet, and even asked if it would be ok for them to use the restroom on that level. Then Calab came in and introduced himself and said he would be the one working outside connecting the AC for the most part. Chris helped them both and then came up to explain and help set my new digital thermostat. Vince went over all the paperwork at the end and went over my rebates and the other things I needed to do. They left the area around the furnace totally cleaned up. I was very pleased with their job, and this feeling was reinforced by the comments the county inspector made about how well they had installed the equipment when he was here yesterday. They know their stuff! I also want to thank Brian, my salesman, for working with me and putting up with all my questions, making sure I was comparing apples to apples, so I would be able to make a decision about what product I should get, and ultimately who I would get it from. I hired a plumbing company to replace a toilet in December 2014. That company installed a toilet at the end of January but it was not the toilet I had ordered/paid for. After months of trying to get them to make this right, I had not even been able to get them to call me back!! I made a complaint to the BBB. Some weeks after my complaint to BBB I got a call from Hoffman Brothers Plumbing. Their rep advised me that their Company had purchased Rivers Plumbing Service customers as Rivers has gone out of business. Somehow, she found my complaint to the BBB & wanted to see if they (Hoffman Brothers) could satisfy the issue I had. She and I had a few phone conversations, she told me they would order the toilet I had wanted/paid Rivers for ($900 paid to Rivers for toilet & installation) and would call me to schedule install in a few weeks when toilet arrived. Yesterday the correct toilet was installed by the Hoffman Brothers plumber. The job was done quickly, professionally and they charged me $0.!!! This was no question a great gesture on their behalf. Customer acquisition and retention, CHECK! I will continue to use Hoffman Brothers for any plumbing needs in future and will be happy to refer them to my friends & family that need a plumber! We used Hoffman Brothers when the recent flood took out all 3 of our furnaces and 2 hot water heaters. We had called our usual service provider but after 3 calls in 8 hours and the final call saying that we should just call the office in the morning, we called Hoffman Brothers. Over the phone, Mike forewarned us that he would not be able to get heat to our home that night and we would still have a service call fee but it would get the process started sooner. That was crucial. He came that night and again the next morning and by the next day, the entire crew was there to start the re-installation of furnaces and hot water heaters. Less than 48 hours since we called Hoffman Brothers, the first of the 3 furnaces were pumping heat out. This was an extremely stressful time for us as we had to gut our entire finished basement but the crew at HB was outstanding. Could not have been more professional and nice to work with. They also discovered a small plumbing problem and had a plumber out the next day to fix that problem while the HVAC crew was working so I did not need to schedule another appointment. While I hope we don't need their services again any time soon, there is no other company that I would call. read more

We started having problems with roots in our sewer lateral in January 2021. After we had the line cabled out twice in four months, it was apparent that we needed sewer lining as a long-term solution. We got several bids, and Hoffman Brothers was the lowest. We gave them the job, and we were glad that we did. This was a major home improvement project, and there were bound to be unforeseen technical problems. Every time Hoffmann Brothers encountered a problem, they were able to come up with an alternative solution. They refused to give up and told me that their ultimate goal was the satisfaction of the customer. And they achieved that goal after a long, difficult struggle. Without exception, their employees were experienced, knowledgeable, and professional. They presented a clean-cut appearance and were polite and friendly. They remained optimistic in spite of the hurdles the project presented. Special kudos to Christian Telford, the Field Operations Manager in charge of the project, who rose to every occasion and led the crews and us through the maze of obstacles with his encouragement and expertise. read more

I wars referred to Hoffman Brothers Heating & Air Conditioning by my brother who had used their plumbing services. He was very pleased with their work. When I had an outdoor burst pipe and a toilet problem, I decided to contact Hoffman. From the very beginning, the receptionist was very cordial. I was able to get an appointment that was convenient for me. I was very pleased with plumbing repair provided by technician Steve B. He was very helpful in the manner in which he took the time to thouroughly explain several options along with the costs. I also purchased the Plumbing membership because of the way that he explained the benefits in the future. He was very skillful at his craft. He was a great trouble shooter. I appreciate the fact that he was very courteous, neat with his work, and had a pleasant, calming demeanor which helped to make a stressful situation (plumbing problem) more easy to handle. He worked at a steady pace and completed the job in a professional manner. His plumbing work is outstanding. We recently had a very disappointing experience with Hoffman Brothers. Our AC unit stopped working, so we called them to inspect the issue. After a brief inspection, the technician informed us that our entire system was beyond repair and that we needed a full replacement. The quote was a staggering $20,000, and we were pressured to sign up for financing and commit to the job immediately, without being offered any alternative solutions or temporary fixes. Feeling uneasy, we decided to get a second opinion from another HVAC company. To our surprise, they found that the only issue was a faulty capacitor, which was fixed on the spot for around $20. This experience has left us wondering whether Hoffman Brothers was being incompetent or, worse, deliberately misleading. We understand that HVAC systems are complex, and sometimes replacement is necessary, but the complete lack of transparency and the rush to push us into an expensive solution was alarming. I strongly urge anyone considering this company to get a second opinion before proceeding with any major repairs or installations. read more

Hoffman Brothers has been an absolute dream to work with. They are one of the few companies in Saint Louis who were actually willing to service our boiler in our home while other companies would require a service charge just to come out and say they cannot work on it. When the time came to consider replacing the boiler they sent Robert Hoffmann out to go over our options and he helped us realize that forced air/heat is the best option for our home. The next week, Hoffmann Brothers was out here to put in the system and the service and support has continued to be exactly what you would hope for. They were kind, efficient, respectful of our home and were able to get the job completed quickly. They even took the time to clean up after themselves, leaving my basement floor cleaner than I have ever seen it. Hoffmann Brothers even did the leg-work on processing all of our rebates. I selected Hoffmann Brothers when my furnace stopped working in early February '17 because I learned that they are supporting Stray Rescue St. Louis during February and March. My experience was great. I called in the morning, and the person who answered the phone was super clear about when someone would contact me and what the timeline would be. Just as she had explained, I received a follow-up call letting me know the time window when a technician would be here, and the tech called also when they were on their way. She also gave me a heads-up that two technicians would be here, one veteran and one newbie. Both were extremely professional, showed me exactly which part had broken, and fixed only that part. They did point out other areas that might be a concern in a few years, but didn't push me to do any other repairs. They were here for just about an hour. I'll add that they were very nice to my dogs as well! I will definitely use Hoffman Brothers again. read more

I recently had a complete HVAC system installed (furnace, AC, air cleaner, humidifier) by Hoffman Brothers. The experience was excellent from start to finish. The salesman listened to what I wanted and offered several options. I made my selection and the install was scheduled for less than a week later. The installers were wonderful. They took great care to keep my house clean as they moved the old system out and the new one in. They worked as a team and completed the job faster than promised. I was given a 'tour' of the new system with a chance to ask as many questions as I wanted. The workspace was neat as a pin when they finished. With the weather the past few days I've had to chance to use both the furnace and the AC (St. Louis weather is challenging) and everything works perfectly. I look forward to lower electric and gas bills as well as the quieter operation of the system. I am more than pleased with the entire process. Five stars for sure!!! read more
