We had just finished lunch at Burt and Max's and decided to walk around the plaza for dessert. We saw Hoffman's Chocolates, which we've been to before--last time we dropped about $40 and had a great experience. Friendly staff, good vibes, no complaints. The chocolate we bought was great. This time? Completely different story. We walked in--me and my 88-year-old father--and not a word. No "hello," no acknowledgment, nothing. Just silence. There was one other mother and daughter in the store, so it's not like they were slammed. We start looking around, trying to figure things out on our own. I noticed the sample tray under the glass dome and walked over. All that was left were crumbs. I joked, "Wow, those are really small samples," before realizing there weren't any samples left at all. The employee hears me, walks over, takes the entire tray away... and still says nothing. No "sorry about that," no offer to bring out more, no attempt to engage. Just removes it and goes back to ignoring us. At that point, we walked out. I'm not going to spend premium prices in a place that can't even manage basic customer service. If you want to charge premium prices, you need to provide premium service. That starts with something as simple as acknowledging customers when they walk in the door. My first time at Hoffmans and definitely not my last. We had just finished a fun Italian meal (loaded pizza) and needed some Ice Cream to finish it off. My broher and sister-in-law know all the good spots in the area so we headed off to Hoffmans. Just a short drive from dinner, very centrally located with easy acess and plenty of parking. We entered the shop and had to walk past the candy and fudge counter to get to the ice cream counter. They have a very robust section to choose from and serve extremly generous portions. I had their stndard double scoop chocoolate and loved every lick. It's creamy and loadeed with a rich chocolate flavor. This is just one item here. While working on my cone I headed to the candy counter and picked up two chocolate covered strawberries and a dark chocolate almond bark. This candy is good!!! Dark-rich tasting chocolate is always a good thing. I am defiantly looking orwad to a return visit.... There is much more chocolate to try. The staff here was wonderful... After a few visits to the Boca store, I wanted to check out this location in Delray Beach. This store has 2 ice cream chests, so double the size of Boca and therefore many more flavors. So while they don't have Rum Raisin in Boca, they have it here. My quart, with Rum Raisin and the incomparable Stellar Coffee was nicely packed by their excellent, friendly staff. Most Hoffman's Chocolate shops are very similar in chocolate inventory although this specific location had an incredible manager overseeing the marketing. We entered and were immediately greeted by this supervisor who exerted such a friendly personality. We had a few of the high grade milk chocolate squares which melted quickly in our mouths. The chocolate nutty covered apples and candy coated oversized marshmallow sticks were being prepped for sale and consumption. If you're not a chocolate fanatic then you can try their selection of ice cream. We will return for the marshmallow sticks and chocolate covered oreo cookies as treats for an upcoming event. read more

The employee greeted me with a warm welcome as I entered and asked me if I wanted to try a few chocolate samples. The chocolate covered squares with a crunchy cookie like center was amazing. It's a beautiful day and Hoffman's ice cream was calling to me! I willfully surrendered to the siren song.... and I'm glad I did. Upon entry into the store, we barely managed to walk past the extensive collection of delicious chocolates without detouring as we headed to the ice cream counter at the back of the store. I thoroughly enjoyed my coconut ice cream - perhaps the best around! (Trust me, I've devoured plenty of coconut ice cream at several shops in the area) Since a "single' cup of ice cream actually consists of 2 scoops, I was also able to indulge in a scoop of cookies 'n cream. It was very good but not amazing like the coconut. My wife was very happy with her moose tracks ice cream, which contained lots of gooey fudge and mini peanut butter cups, and a butterscotch ice cream with more peanut butter cups. Hoffman's remains a bit pricey as compared to other ice cream shops, but with the great taste and large (double?) portion, it's still worth an occasional visit. read more

I have a soft spot for Hoffman's because they are a south Florida success story. Hoffman's opened in 1975 in downtown Lake Worth. In the late 1980's they moved to Greenacres where they opened both a store and a chocolate factory. They hold a lot of events at this location and it is always decorated beautifully at the holidays for its Winter Wonderland Event. In addition to the Greenacres store there are several retail locations around south Florida. Besides chocolates, ice cream and milkshakes are sold at all Hoffman's locations. I discovered this retail location in the Delray Marketplace while looking for a birthday gift. This location has a party room. They also have the aforementioned ice cream which is always popular with shoppers at the marketplace. I enjoyed checking out all of their Easter confections on display like chocolate covered Oreos and rabbit shaped lollipops. I have purchased items for my daughter's Easter basket in the past. Even though she is in her 20's she is not giving up her Easter basket! Prices are pretty steep and I didn't find exactly what I wanted this time but I was greeted warmly and I am sure I will be back for some Easter goodies. read more

It's clean, with friendly service in a convenient strip mall location. 5 of us went. We all got the flavors we ordered, though a few of us did not get the size we ordered. This location is in the Delray Marketplace area and it's smaller than the main shop off of Lake Worth Road. They do have a party room and plenty of chocolates as well as ice cream there, so it does the sweet fix for all ages. I brought my kids in for an ice cream bite. They have a Tuesday special for 2 scoops for 2 bucks until the end of this July! You can't beat that and the ice cream is delicious. I got the birthday cake, my daughter got the "C" is for cookie, and my son got the cookie dough ice cream. We were able to sit with our friends outside while the ice cream melted pretty quickly due to the hot sun. I should have requested to put the ice cream in a bigger cup instead of those small kiddie cups since it melted over the table and dripped onto the floor. KIDS! However, it's a fun place to get together for a sweet bite and you're able to walk around in the Marketplace to stretch out your legs after. The staff was quick to accommodate getting the orders out and handling the crowd. I just hope that they have a water hose in handy to clean up the ice cream drippings from the kids who can't get their ice cream down fast enough...lol. read more

Ice cream? How can you say no? This was 2 stores down from where we ate dinner. We checked in on Yelp and got 2 free toppings. 1 wet and 1 dry. My husband swore he wanted nothing, but went in with me. I saw "Bridge mix" which lately I've heard quite a bit about and grabbed that'. Then we went over to the ice cream section. I opted for a Mint Moose Tracks (I think) small ice cream. There was the sweetest lil lady behind the counter and I told her to do what she thought would go best with the ice cream we picked. She gave us hot fudge and chocolate sprinkles. What a perfect topping. I felt bad we had no more cash on us and there was not an option to put the tip on the CC we were using. The Hoffman chocolate company is Florida's largest chocolate manufacturer and has a few locations scattered around S. Florida for your eating enjoyment.   Although Florida seems an odd choice for chocolate, due to the heat, it works out well for the locals that Hoffman's decided to choose this area. The Hoffman's shop at Delray Marketplace is large and seasonally decorated and has lots of - you guessed it - chocolate products available for your eating or gifting pleasure. There are pre-made boxed / bagged selections, or you can do what I do, and just start browsing the loose pieces to make up your own box. The selection of chocolate is pretty decent and you are sure to find something you like.  Now that you got the chocolates, guess what?  There's more in the way of ice cream! To be fair, I've never tried the ice cream so cannot comment on it, and frankly, I avoid milk chocolate so will not testify that Hoffman's milk chocolates are amazing, but I can tell you the dark chocolate is smooth and perfectly balanced. Now for the bad part: this place is definitely not cheap.  Pushing $32 / pound, you are going to feel that chocolate on your butt, and your wallet.  Be prepared. This particular location is in Delray Marketplace, and has a good store front. A few tables to sit outside as well as inside. The employees are great with greeting, helping you taste the flavors and serving the ice cream. I'm not a big fan of ice cream but Sam M and so many of my besties love it that it seems like I'm always at a ice cream place. Hoffman's ice cream is very rich and creamy. If you haven't been, it's definitely worth a trip in FL. We usually get three scoops of ice cream each, yes I know that's a lot. But the best part is that they can give to go container tops to put on the cup. Our home being 10 minutes away, we take the leftovers. Even the ice cream after a few days being in the freezer tastes good. My top three flavors are banana cream pie, German chocolate and chocolate fudge brownie. I came across Hoffman's on a rainy Wednesday. I came in for ice cream and ended up leaving with tons of chocolate. They have a wide variety of chocolates and a good selection of ice cream. Although they're a chain, everything tasted great and fresh. The ice cream flavors were interesting and they were rich in flavor. The scoops are huge so beware! The customer service was great and the girl who helped up was very friendly. She was patient throughout the order and was very attentive. I'm telling you, I didn't feel like I was in a chain. Not my first time at a Hoffman's but definitely my first time at this location. I liked the few outdoor seating options they had because it made it easy to enjoy any potential sweets you purchased, which is always nice. The inside was almost too big, but I was the only customer at that time so it could have felt larger because of this. Hoffman's, as you may know, makes some of the most delicious chocolate. They also have ice cream so it's it's like heaven for your sweet tooth. They gave out chocolate covered strawberries to sample which were delicious. Staff stayed in the back most of my visit. Someone came up to say hello, but then walked in the back so I was left alone the entire time, which isn't really a good thing. I ended up not buying anything that trip unfortunately, it became that thing where you think, " I don't really need this so there is no sense in potentially waiting for someone to come." Stopped by after dinner and so glad we did- everything was delicious and the shop was very clean! I tried the elephant ears? (Peanut butter ripple with chocolate chips and vanilla ice cream) so good! For example, I purchased chocolates designed to celebrate a baby boy. Some other gifts included a chocolate tool kit and a chocolate stiletto, to name just a few. There seemed to be a theme to fit everyone. ICE-CREAM: I got the Cookie Dough Ice Cream. It wasn't my favorite CD brand, but I'm really picky when it comes to ice-cream. It tasted more artificial to me. I probably should have gotten chocolate ice-cream if anything, considering it's Hoffman's. They did honor the Yelp deal/offer which was two free toppings! I went for the whipped cream and hot fudge which made the sundae! Since I got a small, the employee even transferred it into a larger bowl to give me lots of toppings. :) ENVIRONMENT: The store itself is humongous. I feel they could have added more indoor seating. I went in tonight and I specifically wanted hot fudge on my ice cream. The young girl put the hot fudge on the ice cream and basically said there was no more left but proceeded to scrape it out of the hot well. When my husband who is in the restaurant business tasted it said the fudge is burnt. So I told her it was burnt and my husband was not happy about that. Hoffman's Chocolates is located in the Delray market place: on the northwest corner of Atlantic Avenue and Lyons road in Delray. This is the only location of Hoffman's that I have visited and the ice cream here is awesome with tons of different flavors to choose from. The store is well lit and has a welcoming theme to the customers who can choose from various options of ice creams. I personally liked the different chocolates to satisfy sweet tooth desires. Seating options are available inside and outside the store. To go options are also available for customers who want to take everything to enjoy at home. I came in around 3:45 pm Monday to get some soft chocolate and ice cream, but Melissa at the counter doesn't say welcome to Hoffmans or anything other than the credit card system was down, cash only. Seems like that was the case last time I was there. I didn't hear what else she said and asked twice. I had a coupon Bogo says cup or cone , I said cup and pointed to the cotton candy and dulce de leche two choices I wanted, but she didn't seem to understand me, not sure what the problem was, but I detected an attitude. She didn't ask if I wanted a receipt or not and when I got to car realized I didn't have it went back. She rips it off and hands it over. No thanks for coming to Hoffmans or anything. Geesh, it was a good day until I came here. It felt like she was doing me a favor. I know it is hard to get help these days but so many retail places including Walmart their cashiers don't belong in customer service positions if they are not enjoying what they are doing. I wanted a little dessert after stopping for dinner across the street. Being Christmas, the place was slammed and I was surprised they were even open so credit to them for that. Everyone was ordering ice cream. When I finally was able to get my order, I had asked the girl helping me if I could try a flavor. Because the large group ahead of me had asked to try multiple flavors, she seemed annoyed that I asked to try one. (The flavor I tried was very sweet so I ended up with mint chocolate chip). For 4.95 plus tax I got two scoops. I noticed the ice cream was not homemade so to me, the price was a little steep. I mentioned what happened to me to the guy ringing me up and he apologized but I still thought the girl helping me should have been a bit nicer.
