I've known of this dive bar for a long time, but never went until this past weekend, when a friend was supposed to be hosting karaoke. Needless to say, his schedule got switched and there was no karaoke, but instead a disco night. We stayed anyway and got a few dances in with what appeared to be regulars, and it was a decent time. Everyone was nice and welcoming. Older crowd (50s+). We didn't eat anything, so I can't speak to the food. Is it in desperate need of a renovation? Yes. Based upon the reviews, I was not expecting much. Was it safe to eat? Could I go to the bathroom? Was the staff going to be horrible. Would the vape crowd from next door harass me? No need to worry. It wasn't anything like that. Yep, it's a dive bar, but it has more of a neighborhood feel... at least at the hour that we were there (8:00 - 10:00 p.m.) on disco night. The tiny parking lot was full. That was surprising given the early hour. Who knew it was because of DISCO! Yep, once a month (4th Saturday of the month), they do a hustle lesson followed by dancing. Most of the attendees were seniors, but there was a sprinkling of younger people with most dressed for the occasion. Lots of sparkles and headbands which made the atmosphere festive. It's a tiny place, but lively. Most of the people there were dancing! So, not a lot of wallflowers. It has a ballroom crowd feel, meaning there are some couples, but singles dance with other singles with the understanding that it's all about practice, not a hookup, so it takes the pressure off saying yes. Went a few times to get a good review. 1st time service was great a younger guy. Wings were below average and nothing compare to Hooters or Hangry Joes. Went again on a Saturday.. Service was awful. It was packed and the old lady just ignored anyone not a regular. Desperate need of a remodel. Always put back %10 of profits back into the business. I was having a decent evening tonight with my friend Henry. The pizza is actually pretty good but I didn't ask for a talentless slob to hack his way through "She's Like The Wind". I asked the table next to me and they said this guy is a regular. I don't get that because I lost my appetite and at one point when he walked past me to go use the restroom I swear I heard a muffled cry of "help me". They told me he used to be some cable access show host back in the 90s who still thinks he's relevant and entertaining. I have heard more pleasant noises emanating from a yak birthing it's young. I like this place a lot, but some of the clientele? It's really off putting. We love doing karaoke here, it's a lot of fun, but tonight these absolute low lives came in and ruined everything. Two obese, very smelly and unhygienic individuals just kind of took over the stage, and to make matters worse they were making inappropriate comments the entire time toward nearly every woman they saw. One of them drank Corona the entire time, sang a horrible rendition of "To love somebody", and then not long afterward we saw him leave and go straight to his vehicle. DH and I decided a dive bar burger would hit the spot for our Friday Night Date outing. It has been while since we had been to Rose Marie. We will never return again. DH and I both ordered the dinner special, a chicken fried steak with 2 sides and a roll. As we were making our way through the meal, DH picked up his roll, which was pre-buttered, and noticed there was green mold on the bottom of the roll. I flipped mine over to see the condition of mine. Green mold as well. If you don't believe me, check it out in my attached photo. You know, you hate to leave bad reviews, but c'mon, some places are just begging for one. Poor Rose Marie's beseeches your salty remarks. I had been here before, and had equally haunting experiences... but I thought, maybe it's gotten better...? Uh, no... my name is no... no no no Seeking sustenance, my friend and I popped in for breakfast because it was convenient. She actually warned me... "remember last time?" Trying to be optimistic, we ventured in... a dank, dark depressing place. When sometimes describes a restaurant as "a hole in the wall", this is it. There were actually holes in the walls. I felt like I was walking into a well. But, it's just eggs, how bad could it be? Heh heh, horrible! The bar stools were lined with a couple of hefty men, and the booths are directly across, so our view was assaulting, to say least... no ifs, ands, or butts about it, in hind-sight, we should have asserted ourselves and sat further down in the dungeon... but that's all behind us now. Ordering coffee took 15 minutes! I'm glad we had time to talk, but everyone could hear our stomachs growling over our chatter. We ordered bacon and eggs. After 20 more minutes, we asked the server what was up, she said she was "really busy". There were the heinie guys at the bar and two other tables...8 people! I think the cook must have had a stroke. We were actually laughing about it and now just wanted to see how long it would take. Challenge accepted! While we waited, we carved our names into the lard laden napkin holders, cleaned our table with the Purell wipes I keep in my purse for such occasions , and questioned the meaning of life... and then, breakfast was served! 45 minutes folks, 45! We picked at it, but it was swimming in grease... is this what prison food is like? Recently I was in Florida looking for a place like this in Orlando. Using Yelp I did find one but not without effort! Dive bar maybe but it has an excellent open kitchen which many dive bars don't. Plus you can get eggs anytime which eliminates the urge to find an IHOP or waffle house driving while stupid. The owner is always there and if you ask him he will do magic being a pro magician! The owner just purchased the inn and has put a lot of improvements without taking away it's old local watering hole traditions. Karaoke is great there . Ps Yelp should reset reviews starting in 2021 since older reviews are for the previous owner ...not relevant and misleading. read more

Owner of the restaurant(old man) is very rude and disrespectful. All of my food was undercooked which gave me food poisoning. Costumer service sucks. You have to wait at the least 45 to 50 minute for your food. I ordered 3 things and waited 55 minutes when there was 4 workers and also no one else eating in the restaurant. Every time you pay and pick a song at the juke box, if the owner doesn't like it, he will change it with his remote and cuss you out for playing "a shitty" song. This is a great dive bar. I've been coming here for almost a year. I've met all types of amazing people here. The food is decent, and the drinks are cheap, but I think the star of the show is karaoke night. The KJ Sheri is a beautiful person, and very good at her job. The only downside of this place is part of the staff. Joyce is a good bartender, but the other bartender Cullen is the opposite. He's very forgetful. Usually I wouldn't mind that so much, but he's so rude. I'm really starting to think it's possible he doesn't like me, or views me as lesser, because sometimes I'll see him be very nice towards other people, but everytime i interact with him i feel bad honestly. ​Oftentimes when I want to order a drink at the bar, it will take forever because he'll see me, and either act like I'm not there, or help someone first, even though I had been waiting there before them. He also never says "how are you" when I say it, nor does he ever say "you're welcome " yet i hear him say it to others. Maybe I'm being sensitive, but either way his customer service is definitely lacking. I hate having to say something negative, because I love this bar. The owner Lee is such a nice person, and has definitely seen me go through some stuff lol Despite Cullen being a terrible bartender, I would still recommend trying this place out. Rose Marie Inn has been around for decades it seems, and I have passed it often. I finally took out the time to stop in to have lunch, as I heard they have on their menu the Richmond Original Sandwich; The Sailor. So, when I hear or see The Sailor on their Menu, I hold the Restaurant to a higher standard in their Sandwich making, because those who are from Richmond, are very Proud of The Sailor and how it got it starts here in this great City. I know this is the local place for many wonderful folks who like to get together to have a Cold One after work or on weekends. When I sat down, I noticed two Senior Ladies and they had the place spotless. One of the nice ladies came over and asked if I would like a menu and of course I did.... I was hungry but also wanting to see if the rumor was true if The Sailor was on the Menu. It Was!!! When she came over to take my Order, the first thing I ALWAYS ask is... Do you know where The Sailor originated? She did not, which was extremely disappointing to me as I feel when you have this wonderful Sandwich on your menu... AND it is a Richmond Sandwich... you should know and most of all, take Pride in making this Sandwich. So, because I had to explain to her how The Sailor got it starts here in Richmond on Where and When... I have to deduct a Star.... When The Sailor came, I noticed the bread soaked in lots of butter. So upon picking up The Sailor, the butter they put on the Rye Bread was starting to drip down into my hands. IN addition, instead of being able to taste the combination of the knockwursts & Pastrami, my first taste was butter. Not good! I can see putting a little on the bread so it will toast better on the grill but you do not soak the bread. IN addition, the Pastrami was very dry and it did not seemed fresh. Also, for the amount they were charging for The Sailor, it should have had more Pastrami on it as well. So, in taste and how they made The Sailor, it lost another Star.... It was an OK Sailor, but clearly not the best. My husband and I had lunch last week at the Rose Marie Inn. It seemed as though there were fairly decent reviews so we thought we'd check it out. First off, the restaurant was dirty and dingy, with dusty knick-knacks everywhere. At the end of the meal I went to the restroom, and it was not very clean, plus someone (I assume a restaurant employee) had been smoking in there, and the smoke was so thick, it was hard to breathe -- horrible. As for the food -- I ordered the cheeseburger, and my husband ordered their daily "special" of beef stew which came with a small salad. i will say, that was some of the worst beef stew that I've ever seen served (and my husband said it did not taste good either -- no flavor). It was very, very watery (you could see the bottom of the PLATE (that's right, it was NOT served in a bowl!). There were only 3 pieces of meat and a few carrots which were the "baby" pre-packaged variety. Along with a few potato chunks, and no discernable onions, celery or seasonings -- that was it. It was served with crackers. The salad was minimal with a some iceberg lettuce, and a few tomatoes and cucumbers. The salad dressing was thick (bottled of course). I think this "special" was $7.95. I will say that the cheeseburger which I ordered was decent. That's why I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1. Since it came with potato chips, I ordered french fries instead -- no discount for replacement. Full price was paid for a side order of fries which were ok, but overpriced for what was provided. I was actually surprised how poor the food was, and how dirty the restaurant was. The waitress, who was also behind the bar, was the only server, and the service was quite slow, but she herself seemed nice enough. By the way, I do know that the older, female cook is a smoker, because two customers were out on the front covered area smoking, and she went out there and was talking to them, and smoked as well. Maybe it was she who had smoked in the restroom earlier -- since I doubt a customer would do so, when it's just as easy to wait, or go outside on the covered patio/porch. We will not go to this restaurant again. We will stick with Melito's for our "neighborhood" casual restaurant. Their food is fresh and good. And except for some dusty fake plants (covered in thick dust), Melito's is clean as well. (see other review for Melito's -- it has now gone downhill too). read more

Having grown up in the West End I've passed this place all my life and been so curious about it since it's "where friends meet". Well apparently it's where friends meet weirdos who make them uncomfortable. Went to this restaurant because 1) I just moved in down the street and 2) all the great recommendations on Yelp. Now I will agree with the previous posters about how the bar crowd seems to be regulars and that they have been coming for decades. You can just tell how comfortable everyone is. This place will never be a hipster place. And I say that as a compliment to them. Keep on serving your friends and dedicated regulars. Some were missing teeth, reeked of smoke and did that guy just say he lost his arm in Vietnam? It just won't be a regular place for a gal like me. The staff were so desperately trying to please us as new patrons, it was really nice to see such attention, probably too much for my comfort. The look of desperation was so apparent. Nonetheless, will give them a star for effort. Onto the food, not very good at all. Now, it might have been my mistake. I didn't order the "best burger in town" according to previous comments but I'll pass on all the other food there. Sorry, but I came to eat and was disappointed by what was put in front of me. So all in all, don't come for the food. Come for the drinks and the [interesting] people. Strictly on drinking terms... this place is awesome. The bartender we had (handlebar mustache man?) was friendly and full of stories and anecdotes. Not only did he make great drinks, but he entertained us with various size glasses for playing quarters (we were the only group at the bar so he was amused). We were excited to try out Rose Marie Inn, as one of my good friends raved about it and their burgers. We stopped by on a Friday night and were excited to find a new hole in the wall place close to home. The band was awesome, the burger was pretty good. Our waitress (Noelle).... was HORRIBLE. She was extremely rude, did not even take our order - the cook came out and asked what we wanted. Noelle even went as far as to sing (yell) a little song she made up about how we did not belong there and that we needed to leave (I can't make this up, folks). I have been coming to Rose Marie Inn for many years. This little restaurant/bar has enjoyed a regular following for decades, but the sad fact is that this crowd has aged and is literally dying off. Now the location is undergoing a generational shift. Many of their loyal following are in their 70's and 80's and you're just not seeing as many of those people making it out anymore. But there have been some new faces and it is still a GREAT place to get a cold beer and a burger. You can watch some sports of TV, or play a song in the Juke Box. I have eaten here probably 20+ times in the last 5 years. It has been outstanding each and every time I have walked through the door. I have had probably 10 hamburgers - They have been as good as any hamburger made anywhere on this planet each and every time. The BEER is cold, the service is great. ALL the food is excellent, fresh, and made with care. The people that work there are NICE folks. That goes a long way with me. I read a couple negative reviews in regard to the food, and quite frankly, I just have a hard time believing that Gina D and her crew were served burgers that were, "Barely Edible". That is simply unbelievable. I know many people that eat there all the time. I never heard ONE bad thing. EVER. The burgers are AWESOME. Mixed drink prices are not cheap but many reviews say the beer is. Be prepared to get up from your table to get the menus then get up again to order. I have never had a server come to my table. Just plan on going to the bar for everything if you want to eat or get a drink. I wondered why I was expected to tip. I guess it was for handing me the drink. I have never found the bartender to be friendly but she always seems to be working the place alone. May be best to try this place for lunch if you want to eat here. My mother and I ate lunch at Rose Marie's on Saturday. Nostalgia it was, as Mom said our family used to eat there frequently back in the day. My burger was great! Mom's BBQ sandwich was Fabulous! They have an older side and new side, and the old side is where the bar is located. The staff was very friendly and courteous! The new side, more modern-ized, and very nice. Awfull experience ,forty five minute wait for a couple of over cooked cheese burgers. The place is dingy,dirty,and a flashback to the seventies,not in a good way. Our waitress,was also our bartender and cook was apologetic when she told us they would not honor the groupon that we had just purchased that day.
