This place was in the Top 10 list for Michigan Bbq. I ordered the 3 meat platter. I got a Rib, Pulled Pork, and Beef Brisket. It came with 1 side and a Corn Cake. I got Pork & Beans as the side and got an extra side of Applesauce. The simple answer is all 3 meats were Great. I would eat here any time I'm in the area. The Pork & Beans were well below average. However adding some bbq sauce picked them right up and made them good. The Applesauce was exceptional. One of the top 5 I've ever had. Lastly the Corn Cake was awesome and restored my love of corn bread. Overall this was a 4 1/2 star bbq joint. Since I have to round and it wasn't perfect I'll give 4 stars. We had so looked forward to trying this place. Full foreclosure - hubby has been a hog farmer for over 50 years & has done his share of hog bbq's. Very disappointed. One small rib, one small wing on a very dry breast. You got a corn cake and 1 side. We picked Cole slaw. When I say 1 rib it was just ONE rib not one rack of ribs. BBQ sauce was good tho. So grateful! We were one family of hundreds in town for graduation ceremonies and for Tulip time in Holland. We knew that dinner plans would be difficult for our large family given the large amounts of people and demand for food. Our daughter recommended Hog Wild BBQ, so I called them the day before and asked about options. Tim answered and said, "No problem." We picked up a couple pounds of the pulled pork and shredded chicken with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. We heated up the food after the ceremony and enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing dinner. I'm not a BBQ expert, but I've been around the block enough to know what I like and what I don't like, and have raised expectations for take-out food. If you've ever had real BBQ, you'd know this place ain't shit. Came on a Saturday and got the 3 meat special for $9.99 (3 chicken wings, pulled pork and a piece of sausage) which was a good deal, but the wings tasted boiled and the pulled pork just wasn't it. Flavor wasn't really there and it was just eh. I tried some of a family members brisket which tasted like pot roast. You could tell it wasn't smoked or thrown on a grill. Check for daily specials as they rotate through the week. We did a large catering order recently that featured a little bit of everything. Favorites: ribs, sweet and spicy bbq sauce and slaw (in that order). The chicken, wings and Mac n cheese were pretty standard. I need to clarify that the rib special (not rack) features a giant single rib. Almost like a rib drumstick. This was fantastic. The rack was just ok so not sure it is from the same cut. Not bad for the Holland area. We have always gotten our food to go so it is quick and convenient. Insider tip: mix the bbq sauce with the Mac n cheese and it really enhances the flavor. read more

I have been wanting to try this for a some time. Went today for lunch and ordered a brisket sandwich and mac and cheese. I prefer my brisket very lean. This wasn't bad as far as fat content. It was very juicy and had a good flavor. With the added juice I didn't even need the BBQ sauce. I thought mac and cheese side was fairly bland and a bit too mushy for my taste. As for the staff...when I informed them of the wings being dried out she asked what I wanted instead and then tried to charge me for it!! When I told them, upon leaving, that they definitely didn't have "the best Barbecue in west mi" and the food they served us was inedible - all 3 just stared at me! This one my new favorite place to get BBQ. The pulled pork with the sweet bbq is superb. The Texas chili is really good with just a nice touch of heat. Super friendly staff. To me this place is cheap compared to some of the BBQ restaurants out there and I like it a lot. For the low price they don't skimp on flavor or portions. What a fun little joint! Still the same friendly staff and fast food. But when I say fast food I don't mean fake food! You can see the cooks in action during the summer time, grilling up hundreds of chickens outdoors. They are not too fall-off-the-bone, which I prefer. I liked it with their spicy bbq sauce. Pulled pork - these were a bit dry for me but were still good with the sauces on the table. Half chicken - the chicken was excellent, it had really good smoked flavor. This was my favorite item. Sausages - amazing, I couldn't get enough of them.. another favorite of mine. Mac n cheese with bacon - I wasn't a big fan, the noodles were a bit too mushy and wasn't as cheesy as I'd like it to be. Pork beans and cornbread - both were delicious. I'm quite versed and quite picky about my barbecue. I have eaten barbecue all over the world. I also know that everyone has very different tastes in barbecue so yeah tastes involved with you so I avoid reading the reviews the reviews prior to trying a new restaurant.. This barbecue was very unique, but not necessarily in a great way. I ordered a 3 meat combo on a Saturday night. I also got an additional side because I wanted to get a well rounded view of the menu. The 3 meats were brisket pulled pork and and ribs. For the sides I have the "corn cake", Mashed potatoes with gravy, and mac and cheese with bacon. The meat itself was tender but it definitely did not realiyet it definitely did not resemble brisket that I've had in many other playet many other places. The pulled pork was decent and was quite moist it moist, but was lacking in any remarkable seasoning. The ribs seemed like they were made in a slow cooker. I really couldn't describe the brisket texture until I read some of the other reviews. It definitely does resemble pot roast. I thought the mashed potatoes were decent but the gravy was bravey was poor quality. The mac and cheese was flavorless and mushy. The sauce was not tangy it was not tangy and definitely resembled ketchup more than a homemade barbecue sauce. I'd been hoping to try Hog Wild for a long time. It's always on my route to the beach, I love a good slow cooked BBQ, but I never seemed to make it a priority. After a family outing at Tulip Time (yes, enjoying the folksy Dutchness) we decided to find a picnic lunch for the beach. Enter take-out from Hog Wild. The very low rating I gave Hog Wild revolves around the food. I ordered the pulled pork, which for me, is the litmus test for good bbq. It tasted like it could have been thawed from a Gordon Food Service frozen pulled pork tray. I won't say that it was bad, but there was nothing special about it. It had no distinct flavor or spices, and I really couldn't pick up on any hints of smoke, which any meat from a bbq restaurant should have. It should be their signature, and it just wasn't there. I ordered the spicy bbq sauce, which had no spice. I actually couldn't distinguish it from my son's sweet bbq sauce. I didn't try the Carolina sauce, but wonder if they do a good vinegar based sauce that might redeem the bland pork. The sides were even more disappointing. They have a cold mac and cheese option for a side, which I thought was weird, but decided to try it. They weren't kidding about the cold part. There were ice crystals throughout the Styrofoam cup of pasta, again, with an incredibly bland cheese sauce mixture. It had what might have been pieces of bacon in it, but these were also cold, flavorless pieces of leather. The other side, mashed potatoes and gravy, tasted like instant or frozen mashed potatoes, and the gravy tasted canned. To top it off, the soda mixture was off, so the coke zero was way too sweet. You get the picture of my food experience. The bbq wasn't bad, but there was certainly nothing about it that was good. The reason that it didn't get one star from me was that the restaurant seemed very clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the service was quick. I had a bad experience, however if i went back again sadly i think it would be the same experience. I cook BBQ and love BBQ and try to check out different BBQ joints in the cities i travel to. Today I tried Ribs, Brisket, Pork&Beans, Mashed Potatoes, and Corn bread. Ribs - terrible - so dry and tough it was like jerky. To hide the dryness they were drenched in sauce. zero smoke flavor Brisket - tasted like roast beef not brisket. It falls apart, but is chewy like it has been boiling. No beautiful bark that good BBQ should have. It was sliced just sitting in a hot pan...not the way brisket should be. Pork & Beans...really thick with a very bland flavor Mashed potatoes - very thick and dry and cold...gravy was not homemade. Cornbread - this was the best thing i had of everything i tried. It was more like a corn cake than a bread due to its lightness and sweetness but it was good and cleansed my pallet. read more

This BBQ is poor at best. The ribs were tough and dry, they were so far from fall off the bone that I had to use a sharp knife to actually eat them. The pulled pork my wife got was slightly more appealing if it wasn't for the oddly flavored sauce. And the WORST part is the Mac and Cheese... if you like Mac, don't dare trying theirs... if you can get past the under-cooked pasta then you're sure to suffer on the partially congealed bacon like meat that is mixed in. I've not been to the actual restaurant, but we did eat at their weekly 'cookout' in the parking lot of the Ottawa Beach Inn. The menu here was very limited, but very good. I was a bit disappointed in the prices ($10 per person), the limited menu (basically, chicken or ribs), and the absence of any warm sides. Also, the BBQ sauce that they use really didn't stand out - very plain. I might go back and try their actual restaurant location, but I'd likely not revisit the Sunday cookout. read more

Sean has it right. BBQ is definitely a regional thing and Holland, MI isn't actually a good region for good, homemade BBQ. Supposedly, though, the owner of this place is from Memphis or somewhere so he has A LITTLE sauce in his blood. I had the Pulled Pork sandwich with the Carolina sauce and it was pretty good. Next time I go there, I will have to try a different sauce. I had the corn bread as a side and it was pretty mediocre. Not homemade and served out of a steamer to keep it warm. They do have BBQ! Chicken, Sausage, Pulled Pork, Baby Back Ribs, Ribs and Brisket. Sandwiches and Dinners. I finally decided on the 1/2 Slab of Baby Back Ribs, with mashed potatoes and gravy and the corn cake. It was only $8.99 Good price, and was very yummy.. and generous. I had enough for 2 meals. It was very worth the $$, was just about as quick as driving through a fast food lane, and it was enough for 2. A co-worker of mine that was working in town recommends the Brisket Sandwich. Tried the Hog yesterday for the first time. My boyfriend is a BBQ lover. It was very good and the price was very good. He had a special where you select 2 meats. It comes with a side and a corn cake. He picked pulled pork and ribs. He loved the pulled pork. He raved and complimented it through the whole meal. He wants to go back. I had the special pulled chicken sandwich and a side for 5.99. She was particularly impressed with the taste of the chicken, and found it satisfactory without sauce. Her potato salad was also good. My beef brisket, while tasty, was greasier than I expected. It combined well with a great Carolina vinegar and mustard sauce and complimented the Carolina cole slaw. A good meal, but not five-star spectacular. We'll try again on a day when specials appear as the meals are a bit pricy for the portions and the number of sides. Possibly the most underwhelming "barbecue" I've ever had. I use the quotes because I am fairly convinced the meat isn't even smoked. My fiance and I tried the pulled pork, brisket, rib, and chicken. Every single item was dry and bland. And no sign of the telltale smoke ring in sight. For a side, I had the Mac and cheese, which somehow managed to taste like it didn't have any cheese in it. Great local BBQ in Holland, MI. Had the pulled pork nachos (on Frito style corn chips) got it with their spicy BBQ totally pleased. Spicy Texas chili which was really good but a little soupy for me. Easily fixed with some of their crackers. To finish it off Warm bread pudding. Really good nice consistency with strong cinnamon flavor that pairs well with the carmel sauce (get it warm!).
