I was visiting Hoogie Doggies specifically for their homemade lemonade. It is absolutely delicious. Made fresh to order. Or I should say it was made fresh to order. I believe there are new owners, but I am not certain. It appeared that the lemonade was pre-mixed. And it wasn't made in the plastic containers when they would smash the lemons for the fresh lemon juice. It was in a regular fast food cup. It certainly didn't taste the same. I was really disappointed. It was quite busy and it appeared. Everyone was ordering ice cream. So if that is your preference, maybe this is the place to go. They also had a grill with corn on the cob available to purchase. That was something new that I've never seen before. I hope they return to the freshly made lemonade. read more

Stopped for a quick lunch. Don't blink because you will drive right by it. Parking lot was full as were outside tables under the pines. They have a drive thru so plenty of action around the building. This is an outside window walk up business so only a few customers are served at a time. Be patient. We had Chicago dogs with the works and fries. Dogs came in a unique hotdog shaped box that keeps the dogs hot and the buns dry. Typical fixings were plentiful - mustard, relish, tomato, pickle and tiny hot peppers on a poppyseed bun. Really loved the box presentation. One person had the polish sausage which came in the same box. Every one shared fries. Kids had chicken strips and a plain hotdog. Drinks were special. Flavored teas in multiple flavors were the favorite - mango and others. I went with the real lemonade. It was great and when I looked inside my cup I had a whole squeezed lemon in the cup. Wifey had the unsweetened version of iced tea. Right when we were headed up for an ice dessert, the ice cream machine broke. You could tell the staff were upset. We read the tea leaves and jumped in the car and headed downtown for a treat. Overall, very good place. Loved the simple approach and especially loved the hotdog containers. "A" for that innovation. Highly recommend without any reservations, but sure would have liked sampling their ice cream offerings. read more

This place was excellent in years past, lately they went downhill hard. Drive through is permanently closed, Hot-fudge Sunday doesn't have any of the additional ingredients it once had, Lemonade was room temp multiple times and was lacking flavor big time, prices went up and quality went down. I suspect a change of ownership happened and they sadly decided to "make it their own" which wasn't a great idea from a business standpoint. read more

We love this fun eatery- I like that we can order at a window & eat outside in the beautiful weather! This is a favorite stop when up north! Great food & ice cream! My only complaint was that we ordered dinner & ice cream for dessert. I asked if they could wait 10 mins to make our ice cream. She told me 'Nope'. They handed out our ice cream then our came our dinner. Kinda ridiculous but whatever. Also the google hours are wrong. Call to make sure they're open. It's in a great location. The food is to high priced. And the last couple of Chicago dogs that I had there were awful. The buns were so dry.

I'm from Chicago and know a good Chicago dog as well as thinking this is the only way to eat them. These are the real deal! An excellent dog and I will certainly return and I highly recommend it. I ordered the onion rings and they were very good but could have been a little crispier but still the best onion rings I've had in the Northwoods. I am not a Pepsi product drinker so I ordered their dog gone good lemonade but it fell short. They add the lemons and they can make the drink bitter and although they fill up a big cup without ice I prefer some because it was just room temperature and in the summer I want a cold drink. I would not order that again. This is what stopped me from giving it 5 stars. I was 5:15 and I was about 5 minutes away and decided to do an online order. The time option given was 6:00. I assumed if I showed up they would get it ready. Nope! I let them know at the mobile window orders that I was there. I watched at least a dozen customers walk up to the window, order, and get their food and leave. I had to wait until 6:00. It defeated the whole purpose of ordering ahead. I guess when they give you a time they mean it. So my suggestion is just walk up to the window to order. I sat waiting for 40 minutes. read more

Maybe I just set my expectations too high, but I was wanting just a bit more. I ordered a Polish and it was pretty good. I'd say it was a touch milder on flavor than I maybe wanted, but it was still quite tasty and good. The dog was solid. The fries simply aren't the type I like. They were the skinny, sort of floppy/soft type of fries that are okay, but definitely not what I'd pick if given the choice. I had to add a lot of salt to them to really enjoy them. The small drink is sort of stupidly small. That's a kid sized small... Also, they were out of my pop of choice which isn't that big of a deal, but didn't help the cause. Beyond that, the service seemed a tiny bit slower than I'd have expected. Maybe that wouldn't really have bugged me but you end up with a bunch of people milling about waiting for food and it isn't great. People who haven't ordered don't know who is waiting and who is in front of them to order. Also, the drive thru is on the side just around the corner from where everyone is waiting and its way too easy to end up standing right where cars are needing to drive. Two words: Homemade Fries. Yum! I was not expecting the food here to be as good as it was. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the fries are homemade. They paired nicely with a cup of vanilla icecream. All in our party really liked their food, but I didn't order a sandwich or anything like some of them did. Great hidden gem off the Hwy 51 path, worth the extra 5 min detour for this cute little place. We had the Chicago dogs, fries, shakes and loved it all. Flavor of the day was Dreamsicle, so I didn't head for anything unusual on the menu, but my cone was creamy and delicious. Others in our group had sundaes and this weird twisty cone thing where the flavor winds around the edge? No idea how it works, but it looked awesome and they said it was tasty. Cute little drive-in. Fits perfectly in Minocqua. Lots of seating. What else could you want? read more

One of the worst places in the Northwoods. Many local residents avoid this restaurant. Quality of food has gone down and prices have gone way up under the new management. We stopped in for two soft serve cones and when they brought us our cones we couldn't get out of the drive-thru line. The car ahead of us placed a very large order and they would not ask the vehicle to pull forward. The placed blue plastic barriers by the drive-through so you're not able to move on once you get your order. We stayed in line almost 20 minutes because they were so slow in filling the order for the vehicle ahead of us. Yes!! That's where we had to eat our cone. Waiting in line til it was almost gone. Very disappointed would be an understatement.  Two sandwiches, onion rings and cheese curds (no drinks) cost us $23. I had the Fill-E-Beef and it was a disc of compressed, sliced beef served on a hamburger bun.  Nothing at all like the picture shown in the online menu and not good. My wife had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and it had a piece of lettuce so old and wilted that the edges were black.  How does something like that get served to a customer? Our order of onion rings consisted of 4 onion rings.  At almost a buck a piece, these should have been some darn good onion rings, but they were overcooked and way too greasy. The cheese curd order consisted of 10 small curds that weren't even warmed all the way through. I realize this is drive-in food and I wasn't expecting fine cuisine, but I could have gone to any of the chain fast food places in the area and gotten a better lunch at half the price.  And for $23 I could have gotten a much, much better lunch at any number of places in the area. read more

Decided to try this place out after driving past it a few times on our week vacation. The ice cream options are endless, and they even added little eyes and faces to the ice cream for the kids. We ordered a grilled cheese as well, which took a little longer than expected, but they offered us anything we wanted in the meantime and ended up giving us some free coupons for our wait (and my son said it was the best grilled cheese he ever had... This place is just awesome, all-around. Me and the boys have been coming up to the Northwoods from TN for years and had never found/stopped here. It's a staple now. Well, it's still a restaurant, it's not an actual staple, but we're coming back anyway. Employees are super sweet. we didn't wait more than 7 or 8 minutes for our orders.
