Looking at the Hoh River Brewery on google maps, it appears to be right next to 101, a community college, and a bunch of warehouses. However, sitting on their patio, you would think that you had fully escaped the city. The brewery is surrounded by trees and has a Jurassic Park looking creek running along the edge of the parking lot. We enjoyed drinking our beers at this relaxing spot and will return to do it again. We were there on a Friday evening, a time when you would expect a multitude of customers. However, there were only a few people there. This is usually either a bad sign or the mark of a secret gem. I am inclined to think the latter. The backside of the brewery is a craft distillery, which is also served at the brewery. We didn't sample any of the distilled options but maybe we will at a future visit.

In our town of several breweries, this place deserves some attention! A small out of the main area tap room, but super welcoming and friendly! The brewer was tending the bar - which I love! There is nothing like getting the story and notes on the beer direct from the source. The passion that comes through makes the beer taste even better, but this beer does not need that boost because it is already 5 stars! My favorite so far is the coconut porter. I can't wait to come back and try more creations from this wonderful brewery!

I love trying new and fun beers, but when you pair that with wonderful people it makes for a magical experience. I live this place. The beers are varied with varieties for all tastes. BUT they also have gin and vodka they distill also. I am not even a gin fan but I'll drink their gin. I am a bit of a vodka connoisseur and there's is amazing! Olympia Vodka people! If you wanna support a local brewery and distillery, this is an awesome place they don't serve food yet, other than bags of chips and nuts, but they're not offended if you bring in your own. Come visit!!!!!

Hoh River Brewery is a brand new brewery that opened up in the Olympia area! Personally I think Olympia could stand to have more breweries that it currently has so I welcome this new one to the area. I had two of Hoh's beers when I was here last weekend. I had a Blood Orange Dunkelwiesen and a pilsner. The Dunkelwiesen seemed almost a little too orangey in flavor. It wasn't an unpleasant beer but the flavor did seem a bit overpowering and did not quite have the complexity that I have had in some other Blood Orange beers that I have had in the past. The pilsner I enjoyed quite a bit more as it had a good bready taste to it and did indeed have the complexity in flavor that I was looking for. The bartender provided good service and was friendly. Hoh River is starting to catch on with the locals I see as the place was fairly busy which is something I like to see in breweries...unless the lines to the bar are tediously long.

They are just starting out so there is a ways to go in terms of the looks of the place. That said, if I was rating it just.on their beer. It would be a 4. Good beer and worth a visit.

I always would go to their original location when visiting the Aberdeen area. I have been to this location twice now and both experiences were awesome. The first time here Steve and I split a stout which totally hit the spot. The second visit was just as spot hitting when we got the Rongo New Zealand Pilsner. Flavor features with this beer are crisp and perhaps a hint of orange. I am very excited to see New Zealand Pilsners becoming more common as the first time I had one I was totally impressed and it's great to see this beer type steadily getting more popularity. This is another great tenant to the Tumwater Craft District Market. You can easily spend an afternoon grazing off of the good food and drinks at this location and Mount Olympus really adds more of the fun to that.

This little area near the airport seems to be the brewing epicenter of Olympia. Triceratops has high quality beer in a relaxed environment. The two times we were there they had a baseball game and a football game on the TV. It doesn't seem as "trendy" or "hip" as other breweries, but I'm not always interested in a trendy brewery. Sometimes I want to try a new beer on tap while watching the game. It helps that the garage door is open creating a hybrid outdoor/indoor environment. The last time I was there I enjoyed their red ale. My wife and I don't find many red ales that we like but I'm always searching for the elusive, quality red ale. Triceratops has a good red ale.

There's so much seating in front, inside at the bar, inside at the nook rooms (it's a house converted to a tap room), as well are more outside seating on the side and in the back! The barstools are lovely and heavy. So sturdy and comfortable for being iron and wood. The service is always friendly and welcoming, offering suggestions and will go out of their way to try and locate a beer if you were looking for something specific (they may just have more in stock in their storage area so don't be afraid to ask if you want a beer that you don't see in the coolers for can/bottle purchase). I ended up calling (twice - nobody answered the first time) and got an order over the phone. I headed down there and the first thing I noticed is that the building needs work. There is a tin roof siding kind of thing along the entire front of the restaurant. It is old. Paint coming off. Not a good sign. Went into the bar as I didn't realize there was a separate bar and restaurant. I didn't see any signs showing that. I was directed by a bartender to go to the other side to get my order. A very nice blonde girl was there and went to bagging my order getting my chowder and everything else which took 5 to 6 minutes. It was over $64 with the tip. Got back to my hotel room to try my french dip. Problem is, they forgot the dip - no au jus. It is just warm roast beef in a bun. No flavor. Nothing to it. I couldn't even finish a half of it. The tater tots were bad. Half were soggy. No seasoning. No flavor. Not worth eating. The pickle was good, but wrapped in a napkin kind of thing that made my hands messy trying to unwrap it to eat it. Next up was the clam chowder. It was yellow, so I assumed it was a corn chowder. It is neither. It smells like a ham chowder and tastes like a vegetable/potato soup. It is very watery and had big pieces of celery and other veggies. I have no idea what this is supposed to be, but it is not a clam chowder. Finally, I got chipotle wings. They appear to have been a dry rub. I had hoped they either would come with a chipotle sauce to dip them in or they would be sauced wings. They were neither. Being a dry rub, they had a hint of chipotle flavor, but basically tasted like bare wings. My wife got a pasta bread thing of some kind. She had 4 bites and that was it. $64 for about 10 total bites of food. I hate to waste that money and throw away so much food, but I'd be doing homeless people a disservice by giving it away. To recap, building is old looking. Forgot an important part of one of the dishes. Soggy, unseasoned tots. Watery, "clam" chowder that that is really a potato/veggie soup, wings with almost no flavor - may as well have just asked for bare, unseasoned wings. Wasted $64.

This brewery is a collaboration effort with South Puget Sound Community College's craft brewing and distilling programs. So you can try craft beer options, cider options and distilling options. We stuck to mostly trying the beer that they had to offer which was a Bohemian Pilsner and their Pale Ale. We decided we like the the Pale Ale the best between the two and from the person that took our order seemed to indicate that that was the usual general consensus from customers in regards to the beer. As far as things to eat they have snacky types of things of a more fancier sort. We got some bread with oil and olives but you can also get things like a charcuterie board as well among other menu options. The size of the portions are perfect if you are snacking around the Tumwater Craft District building trying out different things and don't want a big meal in one sitting. The beer itself is alright. I have definitely had beer with more personality but knowing what the set up is I guess I should adjust my standards accordingly.
