Service is friendly and quick. The restaurant was roomy and clean. Ramen was fairly big portion and flavourful though a bit too oily for my liking. The takoyaki was not good - dense and doughy. Decent meal though not the best ramen in town.

Gosh I just realized that I not been to Hokkaido Ramen Santouka since 2017. Not sure why, but I had to look up my previous review of the Robson St location for memory sake. I ranted & raved about how awesome the ramen was at that location. This location in Richmond makes 3 the charm for this chain. I popped my head in for a peak of the inside - looks bright & shiny. This location does not offer much to view at outside the windows - hence this will be a 'drop in for a meal & take off' location. They are running a promo - come in & buy one meal - get a coupon for a free meal on a future visit. It was too jam packed for me to wait around on this Friday night. I shall return & post more pix in the near future.

Newest location of this ramen chain, near Richmond Centre and the Canada LIne sky train station. Bright, interior with light colored wood furniture. Has a few tables and also some counter seating in front of the kitchen like ramen places in Japan, but there is a divider that blocks the view into the kitchen if you are seated. The menu has pictures for everything which is nice. Seem to have a bigger selection of items compared to the location in Seattle at least. I got the shio ramen, which tasted exactly like the shio ramen I've had in other locations. Thick pork broth, very savory and a bit salty. Chashu is pretty soft, only two slices. The noodles were the best component. Got a little chew and bounce to them and doesn't fall apart, but easy enough to bite through. The regular size bowl doesn't look that big, but good amount of noodles. Also got the tonkatsu, which was served in a few small pieces rather than one pork cutlet that was cut apart. Not much batter so skin is thin. Pork inside was soft and juicy. Not heavily seasoned, so do need to use the dipping sauce. Overall, 2 bowls of ramen plus the tonkatsu was $50 something. Not expensive, nor super cheap. Decent ramen meal.

Hokkaido Ramen Santouka Japaleno Ramen 8010 Saba Road #110, Richmond, BC V6Y 4B2 Located at Saba Road in Richmond, Hokkaido Ramen Santouka offers a compact yet inviting space for casual Japanese comfort food. During my visit, I have ordered a variety of dishes, with a focus on their signature ramen and rice bowls. Jalapeno Ramen The concept of jalapeño-infused ramen promises bold, spicy flavours, but unfortunately, the execution falls short. The broth lacked the punch one might expect from a dish highlighting jalapeño, and the heat was barely perceptible. That said, the broth was still well-balanced, and the noodles had a pleasing texture. The portion size, however, leaned on the smaller side. Rating: 6/10 Grilled Salmon Hogan This rice bowl features slices of grilled salmon atop steamed rice. The salmon was nicely seared with a subtle smokiness and tender texture. While the bowl was satisfying in flavour, it was noticeably modest in size, which may leave heartier appetites wanting more. Rating: 7/10 Ikura & Grilled Salmon Don A slightly more indulgent offering, this donburi combines rich grilled salmon with bursts of briny ikura (salmon roe). The combination is texturally pleasing and well-balanced in flavour. Again, the portion was small, but the dish was thoughtfully composed and enjoyable. Rating: 7/10 Mango Ice Cream Float A delightful and refreshing finish to the meal. The mango flavour was vibrant without being overly sweet, and the ice cream added a creamy, indulgent note. A simple but effective dessert. Rating: 7/10 Service Service was efficient, warm, and attentive. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, contributing positively to the overall dining experience. Rating: 7/10 Ambiance The space is clean, bright, and minimalistic, with a casual atmosphere that suits quick lunches and low-key dinners. Despite its small footprint, it feels welcoming and well-maintained. 7/10 Pricing The prices are reasonable and reflect fair value for the quality of food offered. While portions are modest, the ingredients are fresh and well-prepared Verdict Hokkaido Ramen Santouka is a promising spot for those seeking a quick and satisfying Japanese meal in central Richmond. While portion sizes could be more generous and the namesake ramen could use a bolder kick, the quality of ingredients and friendly service make it worth a return visit. I look forward to trying other ramen variations on a future visit.

Grilled salmon combo with karamiso ramen ($22.45)

I went to Hokkaido Ramen Santouka before when the very first Vancouver store opened on W Broadway. I remember the experience being average. After 4 years I revisited since the new Richmond location opened. They did a great job renovating the space from the Miniso that was here previously. It is bright, clean, and homey. On the side of the restaurant seating area there is a small Japanese store area with specialty sauces (yuzu, matcha, soy), Japanese sweets, skincare, and other products. Their menu is clean and has a good selection of items without being overwhelming. I shared a grilled salmon bowl combo ($22.45) with my boyfriend which was a good amount of food. It came with the ramen bowl, the small grilled salmon bowl, and half an egg/edamame. You don't actually save any money by getting the combo (except for karamiso ramen as it is normally $0.65 more expensive than the other soup bases), but it comes with the extra egg/edamame. The noodles had the right firmness. You could also adjust the texture and soup flavour to your taste (lard, salt, spiciness, etc). Kiromiso ramen wasn't actually spicy but had a nice depth in flavour, almost smokiness. I would totally recommend! The grilled salmon bowl was a good side, but I wouldn't order it if it wasn't part of the combo. We just didn't feel hungry enough to have two ramens so sharing the combo with gyoza for the table was a perfect portion! The waitress was spectacular and made us instantly feel welcomed. She offered sharing bowls when noticing we only ordered one combo between the two of us. Parking is mainly just street pay parking, but after 9pm it is free. And of course it is extremely transit accessible right by the Richmond Brighouse station!

    Friendly service staff

Authentic Hokkaido Ramen restaurant, very nice ambience, friendly staff who keeps the restaurant very clean. Strongly recommend to anyone craving for a good Ramen in the Richmond Brighouse area

Go search for this establishment! Aesthetically beautiful all around! Makes the diner want to sit just a bit longer to slurp their noodles! The staff were friendly and quick with their service when we came by! We chose to sit at the bar and what I liked was - the bar wall was high enough that i didn't see what was behind it - the prep and cooking! I tried the tsukemen and loved it! The noodles are served separately cold and the broth in another bowl! The broth was delicious with chunks of meat and I slowly mixed just spoonful at a time to enjoy this bowl! Find it quick for you to enjoy the noddle goodness!

Was overall very solid. Not cheap but not super expensive. Service and ambiance were excellent.

THE ROSES: While there's no dedicated parking, it's location in a semi-industrial area helps ensure that street parking is available. Clean, airy dining space, with entertaining J-Pop music providing the ambiance. Pleasant, efficient staff What makes MR stand out is the way it showcases 'tori-paitan' broth. While most diners are familiar with shoyu and tonkatsu broths, 'tori-paiten' uses chicken carcasses and then emulsifies the chicken bits with a blender to create a uniquely silky, creamy broth texture. It is a pleasant change of pace and really well executed. Portions and prices are reasonable. Nice choices of local and Japanese beers. THE THORNS: I honestly got nothing here. Maruhachi Ramen isn't fancy, but what it does, it does really well. THE VERDICT: This location of Maruhachi Ramen isn't super easy to find, and that's probably a good thing. If you want solid ramen and efficient service, you would be hard-pressed to find better. Highly recommend!

This was a new location I've never been to, and it's in a sort of industrial area near river rock casino. The street parking is limited and busy, and we had to make a few rounds. The staff was friendly, they even provided child place settings and scissors - big plus. The tamago ramen is my go to here with and order of fried garlic chips. The broth is rich and creamy. The noodles have a great chew, and you get a choice between thick or thin noodles. I do have to say the broth didn't seem as rich as their other locations, but still good. My little ones yummed it up. Always a solid choice to satisfy a ramen craving.

This is a specious ramen joint unlike the usual ones which tables are packed closely. The interior was clean and the servers were welcoming. Some ramen joints I visited before there were weird smell but this place is absolutely free of unnatural smells. I ordered a Tonkotsu ramen with miso broth. The ramen exceeded my expectation of "mediocre ramen in Richmond". The pork and noodle were cooked just right with the broth. Portion was fair and the egg was not overcooked very much. To be fair, the quality was surprising me. It is good to try if you are craving for ramen in Richmond near No.3 Road.

Afuri Ramen had a anniversary promo sale on their yuzu shio ramen as advertised on Instagram page, so my friends and I got 3 of those. They were only $12 discounted from $17.50 regularly. Afuri's shio ramen comes with shio tare, chicken broth, chiyu, menma, greens, sous vide chicken chashu, egg, nori, yuzu, and thin noodles. In terms of taste, the ramen was not bad. The chicken was cooked well. It's a very light, citrusy, and refreshing ramen, rather than the bold, salty, oily, super flavorful ones i usually eat at other ramen places. Afuri's take on ramen is different for sure. On the downside, I thought the strong citrus flavors of yuzu and the other veggies overpowered everything in the ramen which im not a big fan of. Too tangy for me. The portion size of the ramen are slightly on the smaller side too. Service was OK. Wait time for the ramen was pretty long at about 20ish minutes. On the bright side, the servers were friendly and checked on our table regularly to refill waters and stuff. They were really quick in giving the bill when we requested it. All the staff said goodbye to us when we left which was nice. The dining area was spacious and modern. Clean as well. Most of the tables were long, shared communal tables with a selection condiments, chopsticks, and napkins. I kind of liked the chili paste they provided. It's not very spicy though. Gonna have to give Afuri Ramen 3 out of 5 stars mainly because the ramen was just ok in my opinion. I discovered that I don't like yuzu and its citrusy flavors in my ramen as much as i thought. If you don't mind that at all, Afuri Ramen is worth a try. Their yuzu shio ramen is still discounted to $12 until the end of this August in Richmond and Vancouver on weekdays. It's a great promo.

The ambiance is modern Asian, with concrete floors contributing to an industrial feel. Service Quality: During my visit on a Sunday, there were only two servers managing the entire restaurant. Despite this, I was seated right away for a late lunch service as I was dining alone. Although the restaurant was fully occupied, I was able to place my order promptly. However, it took a bit longer to receive my bill and make the payment. Menu Variety: Afuri Ramen and Dumpling offers an extensive menu with numerous ramen options and a variety of other appetizers. Additionally, they have an appealing drink menu. Food Presentation: I opted for the lunch combo, which included gyoza and tsukemen. Both dishes were neatly plated with evident care. The utensils--forks, chopsticks, and a spoon--were provided in a small plastic container on the side. Although I ordered pan-fried gyoza, I was served the deep-fried version instead. Despite this mix-up, I still enjoyed the dish without raising a complaint. Food Taste and Quality: The taste of the food was excellent, with a good balance of salt and spice. The freshness and heat of the dishes were commendable. The ramen noodles were cooked to perfection, and the tsukemen had a generous amount of meat. Portion Sizes: The lunch combo provided a satisfactory amount of food. However, considering the price, it would have been nice to have one or two more pieces of gyoza and a bit more ramen noodles. Drink Selection: The restaurant offers a good selection of cocktails. Since I visited for lunch, I only tried their homemade ginger ale, which was incredibly delicious and refreshing. I wish I had the recipe for it! Price and Value: I received a 20% discount on the lunch combo due to the day and time of my visit. This is something to look out for if you plan to dine here. Despite the discount, I felt that the portion sizes could have been more generous. Overall, I paid just under $30 for the drink, gyoza, and tsukemen. Overall Experience and Recommendation: Afuri Ramen and Dumplings may not be my top choice for ramen in Richmond, given the abundance of other options in the area. However, if you find yourself within a few blocks of this restaurant, it's worth a visit. I recommend trying their gyoza and homemade ginger ale, and you can't go wrong with any of their ramen choices.
