I've been wanting to try the original Cha Don for the longest time, but every visit seemed to come with a huge lineup. When I found out they had a location in Empire Centre, we headed there just after they opened at 9:00... and no line?!? We ordered their famous scrambled eggs with fish cutlet and toast, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The eggs were incredibly soft and creamy which was reminiscent of omurice. The fish cutlet was perfectly fried (crispy on the outside and flaky inside) which paired beautifully with the savoury onion sauce. We also had the pineapple bun with satay beef, which was another winner. The sweet, fluffy bun and rich, savoury satay filling were a perfect combination. Salty and sweet! Of course, no Hong Kong café experience is complete without Hong Kong milk tea, and Cha Don's version was excellent... smooth, rich, and exactly what you'd hope for. It's easy to see why there's always a lineup (which started right after we got our food). Great execution of Hong Kong café classics, friendly service, and food that's well worth making the trip for. Hong Kong style cafe inside a food court with a lot of tables but very limited availability as it is busy almost all hours of the day. We went around 1pm and surprisingly they ran out of a lot of options including the baked pork chop rice that I really wanted to try. Despite that, we still gave this place a try since there is barely a line, very unusual for this place. We ended up with the scallion chicken noodle (breakfast item), satay beef vermicelli (breakfast item), and black pepper baked filet over rice. These are stuff out of what I usually get, but I still enjoyed them. The scallion chicken dish was $15 which is a bit steep especially given the chicken is tiny but comes with hot drink. The chicken is a grilled chicken with skin which is flavorful, though the noodles were a bit underseasoned so it is ideal to add the sauce from the chicken into the noodles. The satay beef vermicelli is amazing. The beef is so tender and flavorful, and enhances the flavor of the vermicelli. The eggs and toast were delicious too - eggs were scrambled over easy, and the toast is very crunchy. Black pepper baked filet over rice was pretty hearty. I love the fragrance of the rice and the filet is very tender. The black pepper sauce does clash and dominate some of the flavors but it is still nonetheless well executed. For the drinks that come with the meals, we got milk tea and milk tea + coffee (yin yang) - these drink are high in caffeine even with the small size! Will update to 5 stars when I try the full suite of items they are known for, since the dishes we got were good but stuff that I could've gotten elsewhere. read more

Who knew Hong Kong cafe food in a food court would be so popular? Does this beat driving to Richmond? Heck ya! Parking is easily available but there is a 4 hour limit. Cha Don has only been opened in Henderson Mall for 2 weeks and the line is insane. (Even went back a month later and it's still ridiculous.) Most of the dishes are under $16 but some of the items are not available till after 11:30. That's includes the baked rice dish and spaghetti and the minced pork patty rice series. This will quicken up the long time for those breakfast goers but sucks if you're craving either of those. So the first time I had gone, there were lots of mistakes in orders and the long lines. There was also a sign in front of the cashier stating that they will only take CASH or E-TRANSFER...So be prepared! By the look at more recent reviews, it seems like they're still working out the kinks and the line is still 30-45 minutes. Maybe by this spring they'll figure it out? Cha Don in Henderson in Coquitlam delivers. We got the breakfast set and it was a ton of food for just $14. We got a fried pork cutlet, tartar sauce, potato salad, fried sausage, scrambled egg, hash brown, and toast. What a spread! We went on its opening weekend so the wait was 30 minutes. But once we ordered, it only took another 6-8 minutes for the food to be ready. Just keep in mind they are cash only or they accept e-transfer. Look for the lineup-the only one with a consistent long line. Once your order is place, a plastic alert disk is given. When it lights up, then your order is read for pick up at the counter. Self serve for utensils on the right side. Menu is the classic Cha chaan teng breakfast, noodles soups, French Toast, fried rice and fried noodles. I had the breakfast combo of noodles in soup with fried chicken and my friend had the meat sauce with rice. Both were absolutely delicious. Their rice is cooked to perfection. I guess this is one of the newer stalls at Yaohan Centre good court. For someone who misses HK style food, of course I had to give it a try. I ended up ordering the satay beef vermicelli and baked tomato pork chop rice. The service was alright. I had to wait maybe about 15 min for the pork chop rice. On first bite, you can tell the tomato sauce is on the sweeter side. So if you like that, that's the place for you. You can tell that they marinated the pork chop then fried it like the Taiwanese style popcorn chicken. It has a light crisp. It would be nice say if the onion and pineapple taste more blend in with the rest since those don't get any sauce hidden under the pork chop. As for the satay beef vermicelli, I've had better ones while in HK. But if you really miss a dish like this from HK, it gives you maybe 70% of what you're looking for. They both had some of the fried fish fillet and my husband had a small bite of the scrambled eggs. Other than the sausage, the bit of fish they both took and the small bite of scrambled eggs that my husband had...the rest of the Cha Don meal was mine. So I ate both slices of toast (very thick slices), about a third of the fried fish fillet and 98% of the scrambled eggs? Sooo filling! It was shortly before noon when we all started eating. I was full all day long after that. Sometime before 6pm I had a bubble tea drink and that's basically the only thing I had all day aside from the Cha Don meal I ate earlier in the day. Yup, that's how filling the food there is! Very good bang for your buck at Cha Don! I do recommend sharing meals there to avoid overeating. Finally got a chance to try this place after hearing about the hordes for months. Honestly I think they are singlehandedly reviving the (previously quite dead) Empire food court. I hear they're the sister restaurant to Cha Kee (President Plaza) which is also known for great value. Makes sense. This place closes quite early, so swing by for a breakfast or late lunch. Parking is available in the strip mall lot between the 2 halves, as well as a parkade in the NE corner of the propety. Staff are friendly and helpful. No complaints. The place is pretty no frills. Classic HK cafeteria (fast food) style. Pick a meat, pick a starch (toast or hash brown), pick a drink (extra charge for cold). Many of the combos come with stuff like scrambled eggs, (potato) salad, and sausages. Basically comfort food. Everything was grilled to order. The food is nice and fresh. Probably the best value in the entire food court. Haven't seen these prices in years. And of course the food meets my exacting standards (cheap and tasty). The fish filet I had was huge. I had to stop myself from weeping. This is my new go to if I'm in the area while it's open. Recommended. read more

Located in the food court, parking isn't the most convenient. There is parking outside and in a garage, but the spots are tight. Went around 1 PM, the line wasn't too long. The menu was on the right side, but you order on the left, making it awkward to read while ordering. They should place another menu by the cashier. Saw this store when I was at Empire Center Food Court. There's always a line up, their menu is pretty extensive... I also saw it on Tik Tok too, they were raving about the scrambled eggs with the thick white toast & the scallion oil on pork chop or chicken chop. I decided it was time to check it out. They are pretty efficient in their ordering, just make sure you study their menu well when you come up to the front person to place your order. You pay for it & they give you one of those beeper thingy. The food court is small, I recommend that you go off peak hours (mind you, it is still a wee bit crowded). The food court is decent... just bring wet wipes to clean the table... it is a DIY kinda food court. I decided upon the chicken chop on instant noodle set that comes with scrambled eggs with 2 slices of toasted white bread & a Hong Kong style hot tea with evaporated milk. I ordered it for takeout. So... the hype about the scrambled eggs is REAL! OMG! So smooth & creamy, it's like crack on toast. The pork chop is all sold out & it was before 2pm... the chicken chop was nicely executed... crispy on the outside & cooked nicely in the inside. The marinade was very flavourful. I don't like scallions but OMG... that scallion oil was so bloody yummy, seriously elevated even the instant noodles. I removed the scallion & has the oil infused the chicken chop & noodles. A thoroughly enjoyable meal. Their HK milk tea was solid. Go check them out, however do study their menu well menu first before you order. Get the set, this set only cost me $15. Worth every cent! I ordered the "All Day Breakfast" Combo A which included macaroni soup with ham/luncheon meat, scrambled egg, toast, and a hot drink for only $11!! I upgraded the macaroni soup into a tomato soup for an extra $0.5 as I saw other tables around us doing so. The food was so delicious and hearty, the texture of the macaroni was perfect. Cha Don is inside the Empire Centre's FoodCourt. It is apparently a famous HK Cafe and it serves breakfast the whole day. They have a lot of Chinese customers who were used to having breakfast in HK. But for the Westeners, it is a great change eating Satay beef with noodles for breakfast. I ordered the set of 2 thick slices of white bread, toasted with butter, fluffy scrambled eggs, satay beef with a taste of curry sauce with rice vermicelli and a cup of milk tea at the cost of $13. My first time to have HK style breakfast. Unfortunately, it is not my cup of tea except for the fluffy scrambled egg with the thick white toasted bread with butter. I was informed that if I had ordered the beef with instant noodles, I will have to add $1 more. Now for $14, I'd rather go for the deep fried chicken nuggets or chicken thigh fillets which comes with steamed rice, 4 side dishes and free Chinese tea. Better value for your money and quite filling to your tummy. Now that I've tasted the HK style breakfast, the next time I come to this foodcourt, I will go back to ordering the chicken nuggets or chicken thigh fillets. I'd get value for my money. For both of these foodstalls, there's always a line up, but service is fast. But try to go during weekdays, less cue and more available parking spaces rather than the weekend.
