Haven't come here for long time and it's still a very good Hong Kong cafe in Vancouver. They have many more choices we want to try! Milk tea is good and satay beef instant noodle is also good. We love the pineapple bun here! Staffs are very friendly and seating is comfy and not too crowded.
One of my favourite pineapple buns. But pricer than other places. But ours were still warm when we got them. It is a cash only place. Has a busy small parking lot outside.
Finally tried Lido's famous pineapple bun and I almost cried tears of joy! Try the one with butter inside. Their pineapple buns come out freshly baked and the cold butter contrasts so well with the flaky top. The iced lemon tea and satay beef noodles also instantly transported me back to HK. Highly recommend! They only take cash but it's worth the hassle.
Everytime I come to Richmond, I make a stop at this restaurant. Come early because the parking lot gets full fast!! I suggest backing up into the parking spot, since the spots are tight. Also, there is a usually a wait later on in the day. The restaurant is popular. I usually come here around 8 am when the restaurant first opens. Service is always meh. They spoke to me in Cantonese, but realized I can't speak Cantonese. They do speak English though. The lady asked me how many and I told her that I wanted take out. She proceeded to fulfill restaurant orders before taking my order. Eh whatever, I'm just here for the buns. I come here, just for the pineapple buns. Pineapple buns are constantly coming from the oven. You have to eat the pineapple buns right away. The buttery smell hits your nose as you inhale the warm bun. That first bite of the flakey sugar crust melted in my mouth. Plus, the bun was fluffy and soft. They pack the buns in a brown bag, which is a bit lame. The atmosphere of the restaurants looks like a worn out Hong Kong cafe. The seats seem a bit beat up, but it's cozy. It is a bit small inside the restaurant, especially if you're doing take out. Bring cash! They do not accept card. I definitely recommend coming here early for the delicious pineapple buns. That way, you don't have to fight for a parking spot!
Sorry Yelpers and locals, but Lido didn't live up to the hype for us. We kept seeing it listed as a must-visit in Vancouver/Richmond, especially for the pineapple buns and egg tarts--but honestly, it was a miss. Even though the pineapple buns were freshly made, we just weren't impressed. Maybe we caught them on an off day? On the plus side, service was friendly and we appreciated that they accepted U.S. dollars since we were running low on Canadian cash. But if you're craving good pastries, I'd suggest heading a bit farther to New Town Bakery in Chinatown instead.

It's as old school as old school gets, from food to service, to the decor. I always stop by for a meal whenever I'm in town. They are best known for their deliciously fluffy Pineapple Bun with Butter. I am not a big baked goods fan, but this bread has my vote. Their egg tarts are also pretty solid, flaky and creamy. My usual order hķere has always been the Satay Beef Noodle in Soup, but I might switch it to the excellent Beef Tendon & Brisket Lo Mein going forward. So tender and full of umami. Fried Vermicelli in Singapore Style was fantastic too. Slightly clumpy, but curry flavor was great, with a nice kick of spice. Curry Beef Stew is always very tasty too. Word of advice, get the combo if you can. For $1 more, you receive a choice of many pairings with your entree. The two combos we had this recent visit was the Butter Bun + Ham Omelette and Butter Bun + Luncheon Meat. If there was a weak point, I thought the congee was a bit watery, though flavorful. We had the Free Range Chicken this time and the meat was very tender. Radish cakes were slightly underwhelming as well. And you should skip the Spicy Lo Mein. Regardless, it's always a good meal overall at Lido. I would highly recommend everyone to check it out if you are in Vancouver.

Yes. Your eyes are correct. They do serve pineapple bun with a stick of unmelted frigid slab of butter. Because that's a thing among Canto/HK Canadians. It's so weird. In the states no one eats butter raw and straight from the fridge. If they do, we call them psychos. But when in Rome... it wasn't that bad. Imagine frigid unspread unotasted butter and it'll taste exactly like that. I prepare I to have my butter melted. At least so that's it's no long frigid. My cuz ordered it so it tried it. We also got other stuff like the mandatory lemon honey tea. It was good. Tastes like HK. We also got other stuff. This place is great. Even when they got the order wrong bc there were two waitress taking orders, it's all good bc both spoke canto!! The fried intestines were good. The butter bao was good. But the mango sago is the winner! They give you a full cup for $3.5!! Best value ever!! All the other places are now scammers or scalpers!! This is the legit place. It's smoookinnggg! Nice vibe. Feels like I'm in SF or HK. Don't expect the place to be clean. It do expect to feel homey and with friends, in the morning afternoon, and at night time. This would be the most checked in place. If I lived in Canada! Vancouver team come here!! This place is way better than 3 stars!! And it's appropriately priced!! Solid A++

Instagram/reels/shorts has called out this place quite a bit. I am sooo glad to have tried their famous pineapple "bolo" bun with a healthy slab of butter inserted right in the middle. Holy smokes! That piece of butter is not just 1 tbspoon. (Anywhos, just make sure to check your cholesterol yearly!). The pineapple term is just a label and direct literal translation based on its appearance- no elements of that fruit at all. However, it is like melt in your mouth' as mr ishowspeed said in his recent visit to HK after trying same bun. Back to the butter - it was divine. I know HK probably serves it just as top notch - and this also reigns close to supreme. The restaurant has HK style cafe canto dishes- it is superrrr packed. The take out was nonstop too. The walls all had chinese menus of herbal stuff- best to ask for translation if you want further suggestions. Otherwise, the english menu should suffice. The pineapple buns kept coming out in batches, carried by the baker. As the pan of buns passes by the tables, you get a whiff of the aroma and cannot help to take some to go. Is that a tactic they employ to get customers in order satisfy majority of our senses? Well, it worked!! The egg tart came to our table smoking hot. Be careful when biting into the center - totally unexpected it would be that hot. The breakfast also came with a fresh bun too. Atkins dieters- beware!!! This is probably Vancouver's most recommended spot and the customers were pretty diverse. A lot of locals, too. Great mix! Customer service was good. Place is tidy but lacks modern touch- and who cares when the buns are that solid! Expect a wait during peak times. Coming back again and again! A zillionnn starsssss!
Eating at this restaurant makes me feel like I've been transported back to Kam Wah Cafe in Hong Kong. Only difference is there's more table space to eat here and the service is friendlier. We came here early in the morning to try their famous pineapple buns with butter and we scored some that came fresh out of the oven! The pineapple crust was perfectly toasted. They use salted butter instead of regular butter so that caught me off guard a bit. We also got their egg tarts and those had a very crispy crust and tasty egg filling. HK-style milk tea was excellent and authentic! After you finish eating you pay at the cashier up front, just like they do in HK. Cash only!
When you look at the pictures patrons take, it pineapple bun after pineapple bun. Once we ate one, we knew why. The bun comes out hot and fresh. You can compare eating them fresh. The bread is soft and melts in your month. The top crush is hard and almost crunchy. A must stop place for each visit. We can in at 6:13pm and didn't realize they close at 7pm. While trying to figure out all the menus (nearly all in Chinese), the waitress came to us and nudged us to order. We were about to tell her that we need a few minutes before she saw us looking at the rice clay pot options. She said 6:15pm is the latest to put in the order for the clay pot. She help explain the menu and helped us order. The food was amazing and we don't get as fresh and authentic Chinese food in Seattle. There was ample room in the restaurant and it had a typically Hong Kong cafe feel. We are so glad we found this place. We will definitely be back.
Walked into this place and it feels like I went back to HK. The service the way the waitresses talked just feels like home to me. Ordered the satay beef noodles and it was a classic. Their bolo yau is famous so we got it and it did not disappoint....they keep it warm all the time and there's new batch coming out often because people keep ordering them so it's super fresh. The bo chai fan was good but I was getting full already. The chicken was juicy. If you get honey lemon water, get it hot because the cold one is extraaaaaaaaaaa sweet.
We pulled up to Lido Restaurant around 9AM on a weekday and it wasn't empty, but there were still plenty of seats. The parking lot out front is pretty small, so I'd expect it to be a pain on weekends and there are tons of signs stating that there are time limits on the tables. Service is the classic gruff Chinese apathy (including the cash only policy), but overall, the food is solid and very nostalgic. The best part is they have quite a bit of turnover in their baked goods so items are always fresh! Egg Tart: Nice flaky crust with a custard that isn't too sweet! Super solid and almost encyclopedic in its representation. Pineapple Bun with Butter: Cookie crust is crispy and thick, but the center of the bun was just a touch dry. Really love that they do salted butter here though, that bit of sodium adds a great accent to the sweetness and fattiness. Preserved Egg and Pork Congee with Youtiao: The youtiao felt a little stale, but then it made it extra crunchy when dipped into the congee. Congee is thick and fairly salty. Comforting all the way around! I wouldn't wait in a crazy line for this, but totally see how this became a neighborhood staple. read more

My family always wanted to come but we only made it once during breakfast. So this past weekend, we got there bright and early. We got seated right away. We got a variety of items: congee with beef, turnip cake, ham omelette, macaroni with satay beef, bolo bun and Ovaltine. To my surprise, almost everything was below expectation. The congee was overly salted. I first thought it's just me, then I heard customers at 2 other tables said the same so I guess it's not just my taste bud that had issues. The turnip cake barely had any toppings. It's plain and can't taste turnip to it. It's also not pan fried that well so it's mostly soft. The macaroni is alright. The broth is as expected. Some of the beef is kind of chewy though. The egg omelette is good. I also got an egg tart to go since that's what they're know for. The egg part is really good, soft and fluffy. The crust is a bit dry and thin. I've had better elsewhere tbh. Overall, my experience here is just alright. I appreciate the HK Cafe environment but the food was subpar read more

I love the pineapple buns with butter here and their wonton noodle soup with black lemon iced tea. I first had Lido in 2019 and happy to report that it still tastes as good in 2025. It's hard to find good pineapple buns even in Southern California so I always think about my meals here. Service was great, very accommodating with the English menus. They're busy but I never felt rushed. I also loved their chili oil so much we ended up buying a jar to take home. read more
The pineapple bun here is always good, although not as good as it used to be. It's bigger now with less of the crumble topping. Everything is always quick here, but I wouldn't expect any less at a hk style cafe. Everything tasted good and you get a lot of your buck. read more

The tart was very soft and delicious! The coconut bun filling was really flavorful and actually had strong coconut flavors. The pineapple bun was really soft. The Hong Kong tea was very authentic! They are cash only and parking is free and easily full but people are constantly coming and going so you should be able to find parking if you wait a few minutes. read more
I would recommend this to ANYONE and EVERYONE! Such a delicious treat to have while in the Richmond/Vancouver area. If you come early in the morning, there won't be a wait :) Pineapple buns are kept warm! We got this as takeout, so they also gave us butter on the side. The buns are light and airy, perfectly sweet! The iced lemon tea is also a must to wash it all down. A nostalgic and iconic pairing. read more
I absolutely love the pineapple bun with butter here. The bun is freshly hot and the butter just melts perfectly in the middle. The milk tea was a bit on the watery side and their scrambled eggs that is part of their breakfast set was okay. I've had more fresh and more vibrant yellow scrambled eggs at other cha chaan Tengs in vancouver. Their French toast doesn't have the typically peanut butter filling but some other filling I could not pinpoint. My husband also loved their pineapple bun with satay beef. I will say parking is a bit hard to find and it is cash only. read more

Such an amazing Hong Kong cafe spot! Remind me just like the ones in HK. Especially since they have pineapple bun butter!!! Came here on a Saturday morning for breakfast and it was packed!! But the line moved pretty quick. Service is as you would expect with any HK spot. They were very friendly but don't waste their time. Ordered beef brisket noodle soup and macaroni spam and egss soup. Soup was amazing. I would come back here often. read more

Y'all, Lido is the TRUE WINNER FOR PINEAPPLE BUN. I totally had no idea this spot only got an average of 3.6 stars on Google Map and Yelp. It is very famous among the Hong Kong community in Vancouver, and it deserves the word-of-mouth buzz. ＊Pineapple Bun w. Butter 鮮牛油菠蘿包*** I only stayed there for less than half an hour, but I've already witnessed two trays of pineapple bun popping fresh off the oven! You are guaranteed to get your hands on a warm bo lo bao here, with the hot-meets-cold sensation of iced butter melting in your mouth. ＊Egg Tart 酥皮蛋撻 If you are a fan of multilayered puff pastry crust, this egg tart will be right up your alley. It has a good ratio of jiggly egg custard and crust. Classic Hong Kong snack that you shouldn't miss. ＊HK style Milk Tea 港式奶茶 While they are more known for HK style lemon ceylon tea, their milk tea is also legit. read more

There is not a single person in Vancouver, ( and maybe even the west coast ) who have not heard of Lido Restaurant, and its fame is well earned. For anyone who wants to be transported to HK for an authentic cantonese breakfast, Lido is the place to go. The pinapple bun is a must try (that's what Lido is known for) but its other breakfast dishes are just as good! Be prepared for long lines , and make sure to bring cash! read more

The best pineapple buns I've had in my life! That was the only reason why I visited this place. The pineapple bun was fresh out of the oven, the crust was perfect and the butter made it even more tasty. I also got a milk tea and it was creamy and strong tasting. The service can be a bit slow, but you just need to waive your hand whenever you are ready. As for the ambiance, if you go by yourself like I did, you could be seated with 2 different parties on the same table. read more

5/5 for the Pineapple Bun with Butter. There's always just something about having a bite of warm fluffy bun with some cold butter. I loved the way that the pineapple bun at Lido was not too sweet and was bigger horizontally instead of being more dense like some places make it. It served as the perfect platform for the butter. The Pineapple Bun was so good, we made sure to stop by to grab a few more before we left Vancouver. We also tried the Egg Tarts and Beef Chow Fun. I can't say they were as memorable as the Pineapple Buns but Lido's definitely a solid place to get your HK cafe fixings. Ambiance: I haven't made a trip to Hong Kong just yet, but it felt like I was transported to the HK drama cafes I watched growing up. It was bustling with noise and a great place to just be around. Service: Fast and efficient If you want to live out your pineapple bun dreams, do come to Lido. read more
