Second trip to the area in a year and made a point to visit Holi Cannoli again. This little hole in the wall will not disappoint tourists looking for creative Italian in a warm, romantic and friendly atmosphere. You may think, "What?" When pulling in to the parking lot and walking in, but don't turn around or you will miss a great experience. In the back is a lovely and quaint restaurant. Dimly lit with a coal fired pizza oven in the back. A cute wood door gives some privacy and enigma for the preparation of rustic bread, tomato focaccia and crispy, cheesy triangles that come to the table on a board with marinara. The specials included soup or salad. I opted for delicate whitefish in a lemon butter caper sauce. It was complemented by mashed potatoes and spinach. Sauce had a lovely tang of lemon and the capers set it off nicely. A glass of Pinot Grigio made for a delish dinner. Salad had a nice garlicky accent with chickpeas on the side, pepperoncini, tomato and olive. Everyone enjoyed their meals ranging from traditional eggplant or chicken Parmesan to a pork dish with mushrooms and a smooth sauce. The Holi Cannoli martini laced with pistachio made a great conversation drink. This place knows how to brand its concept with etched wine glasses and shirts to go. My wife have been here once before Several years ago for a coal fired pizza. It was great. We stopped tonight for dinner. We started with the antipasto plate. It was very good and varied. My wife had the fettuccine bolinase. It was very tasty and homemade. I had the gnocchi with spicey red sauce. Both were Great. She had a meat ball and I had a sausage. Both of our plates were great. Also, the waitress tricked me into spending $10 extra by asking if I wanted a soup or salad with my meal (as if it was included) and also asking if I'd like to try it with a different sauce (which was $4 extra). Food was good, I had the Atlantic salmon and the wife had the gnocchi. Problems: - no kids menu. They have smaller portions of pasta; we also went with an appetizer for the kids - cheapskates: they charge a fee to split a plate even if it's for a small helping for your 5 year old - cheapskates: they charged us when we asked for extra basil on our gnocchi, but didn't tell us there would be a charge until we saw the bill These issues alone are a sign that this is not a customer friendly, satisfaction-oriented establishment, but rather a place that prefers to nickel-and-dime the clientele. It's a shame I have to at least leave one star. We have a summer home and were up for the weekend. I called and asked if they deliver and the woman who answered the phone said they did not. I asked if I could place an order for pick up and was told I couldn't. When I asked if I should just come in and order the woman on the phone informed me they were busy and hung up on me. After years in the restaurant industry, I can tell you I will NEVER patronize this establishment. My fiancee and a large group went here today after a fashion show in Lake Geneva. Suffice it to say, the visit here was going to be memorable. They went specifically for drinks and appetizers the whole time. To get the attention of a bartender, a woman in the group whistled. She was scolded by the bartender for doing so in a ,"Classy establishment." Then the owner promptly cut the whole party off. This kind of treatment after running up a $700 bill? I did some research and discovered that guy is NOT the owner, but is a frequent customer whose wife is friends with the owner's daughter. The guy in the Blackhawk's jersey greets customers when they come in. Some might say he has a quirky sense of humor. Others might say he's an obnoxious dude who's looking for attention. Both interpretations might be correct. In any case, he is NOT the owner. I was down in Elkhorn for training last week. I went to dinner at Holi Cannoli all three nights I was down there. I very much enjoyed the experience. The first night I had a coal-fired traditional Margherita Pizza and cannoli for desert. (If you are eating at a place called "Holi Cannoli" and they have cannoli for desert, you should try it). The pizza had a very crisp crust, was ready in less than 10 minutes, and was very good. The second night I had a coal-fired "Holi Cannoli" pizza, with mozzarella, ricotta, parmesean and provolone cheese. I added sausage and black olives. That pizza was good but I liked the Margherita Pizza better. I tried a chocolate dipped cannoli which was good, but I liked the regular cannoli better. The third night we all went out. I had a grilled calamari appetizer, soup, the Gnocchi with vodka sauce and Italian Sausage, and another regular cannoli for desert. That was very good. The service was excellent. Both the owner and his daughter came by the first night to see how dinner was, and the daughter was there the other two nights and came to check that everything was okay. They have a nice little bar and an excellent selection of wine. I very much enjoyed dinner at Holi Cannoli and I will certainly go back the next time I'm down that way for training. read more

If you are on your way to the Dells, or delivering or picking up kids from the many camps that litter the Wisconsin countryside using Highway 12, stop in at Holi Cannoli in Elkhorn. How could ANYBODY say the sauces for the pasta AT Holi Cannoli are just so-so??? They are MARVELOUS. Even the lowly marinara is well-crafted from good ingredients. Most people would be able to taste that, unless they have dead taste buds!!! Perhaps some people smoke too much, or had mothers who could not cook as well as they do at Holi Cannoli, and therefore don't know good sauces when they taste them. We had whitefish with artichokes and capers over "little ears" pasta; chicken parm with spaghetti; spaghetti and meatballs; and a cheese pizza. We barely had room to share a cannolo three ways, the entrees were so delicious!!! I had to stop my husband from licking his plate. He's half Sicilian, he knows food. We also were served a bread basket that included foccacia, tuscan bread and coal-fired crust with a sprinkle of parm. There was a fight on at the table for the coal-fired crust. I think the establishment can skip the other two breads entirely in favor of the crust. The pizza was some of the best I have ever eaten ever. I have eaten pizza all over the country, including Mystic CT, New York, San Francisco, and San Antonio, along with being raised on Chicago thin. I have even been to Spaggo. Holi Cannoli should consider entering this pizza in some of the stiffer pizza contests. It's that good. The cannoli are what cannoli are should be: Crisp exterior, sweet creamy goodness, plenty of pistachio on the ends. When I have time, I make my own cannoli, so I know whereof I speak. Service was superior, felt very-well cared for. If I was going to improve anything at Holi Cannoli, it ***wouldn't*** be the food. I would address portion size. There needs to be half portions offered, or a children's menu instituted (no cruddy hot dogs or chicken nuggets, please, as kids need to learn good food early). Not everybody is a marathon diner. I would also change the physical menu to showcase the pizzas after the appetizers. Finally, as it is Wisconsin, and the little "house" still begs the Supper Club theme, I would eliminate all breads but that wonderful coal-fire crust and bring on a small relish tray. It doesn't have to be big, a little antipasti. There is an antipasti offered on the menu for $8.95, but that seems high to me, even with the quality of the food served. I thought the bar menu was priced out, way too high. I am not paying $9 for a martini, or $7 for a glass of wine. We will be going back, without the excuse of kids or a trip to the Dells. read more

Was in town on business and hotel referred me to this restaurant. The place was bustling on a recent Sunday night. I sat at the bar and was well taken care of by the bartenders. The owners were there engaging with the regulars on either side of me but never looked my way. No matter, the food was superb as was the service I received from the staff. I ordered chicken parm with a side salad. The pasta was perfectly cooked with a flavorful marina sauce and the chicken was tender, moist and delicious. Only wish I lived closer because I definitely would go back. read more

Local guy with girlfriend. Both like wine and eating at bar. Not a problem if busy. Yes the lady of the house is Italian and rules but just give her a hug and she is fine. Go there and always busy. Everything is great. If not, she will make if you are reasonable with request. They have their style pizza so enjoy the difference. Saw comments about kids, but I think it is because it is a small place with tables close together. If the kids are fine I am good with a few tears during the meal. Got to love the kids; they will pay your social security! Back to place; go their about four times a year and more if coming back from something and have a glass of wine or two and something light. Rarely do you get a meal at a restaurant that not only melts in your mouth but also renders you speechless. This is one of those places. The food is phenomenal, the service is top notch, and the atmosphere is so relaxing. I had the gnocchi with chicken, and my husband had pizza. Excellent!!!! The bread they bring to the table is just enough so you don't get full before your food comes; and it's delicious. The Canolis are wonderful but my favorite is definitely the tiramasu!!! So want to love this place. Its close to home and we love Italian! we've been for drinks, pizza, and dinner twice. We were treated like royalty the first visit. The very next, after being ignored for 10 minutes the bartender waved a hand in my face to tell me she'd get to us...it was 10 minutes later when she did. my husband wanted to leave...we stayed on. Friends and family were addressed instantly and with much fanfare ...while other patrons were not even greeted. Very Tacky Food is average and pricey for pasta. Pizza is very thin and excellent if you like this type of pie. As a local I would love to go here weekly but am reluctant. My fiancé and I have been trying local eateries and headed to Holi Cannoli one night based on a recommendation. Below is my honest review of the experience. the good: The food at Holi Cannoli is good, although a bit overpriced in my opinion. the bad: Despite what the establishment's website boasts, "Let's talk service. We have it in spades. Our dedicated staff is attentive and knowledgeable. Did we mention friendly..." the staff is inept and service is mediocre, at best. The liquor selection is very limited and the bartender was unknowledgeable. the ugly: As previous reviewers noted, the owner of this establishment is also the hostess. The bartenders who were tending bar the night we visited are related to the owner. The hostess wandered back and forth from the hostess stand to the bar and as she drank glass after glass of wine. The owner and bartenders argued and bickered amongst themselves on numerous occasions throughout our meal, which made for a less than ideal atmosphere. bottom line: The food is good, but not good enough to trump the poor service and incompetent bartenders. I do not recommend this establishment and I will not be returning. This is the ideal dysfunctional establishment for an episode of John Taffer's Bar Rescue. read more

Yummy! Grilled calamari was tender and was served over field greens with a homemade balsamic vinaigrette. Fresh bread and focaccia wibt their awesome marinara is served for each table and our kids loved it! Our girls split the gnocchi w vodka sauce. They inhaled it. I had their homemade cheese ravioli. Very good! My husband had their eggplant parm with sautéed spinach and he enjoyed it. The chocolate covered cannoli was fabulous. Mmm! First off I love the ambiance of this place. I love that they play Frank Sinatra. This was our 2nd time here & we weren't disappointed. Our appetizer was Roltini which is ricotta cheese wrapped in eggplant topped with red sauce. It was very good. This time we had pizza. We ordered the Greek pizza which consisted of a very thin crunchy crust with, pine nuts, feta cheese, kalamata olives & spinach cooked in a coal fired oven. It was just what we were looking for.
