What a nice surprise! A few friends recommended this place for their pizza and we were not disappointed. We started our meal with a tender grilled calamari, house salads with Italian vinaigrette( and chickpeas!), and a bread selection that included a flatbread that was an excellent preview of our pizza order. The owners, Kathy and Rich, are old-school attentive hosts and we enjoyed our introduction to them and the complimentary wine tasting they offered as we discussed their new wine list. We love going here the food is cooked exactly as ordered the staff is very helpful as what's on special and what wines go with what foods. The owner is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Not pretentious she truly cares about her customers. Your not going to a McDonald's so expect to pay a little more but it's not outrageous. It's well worth the money you spend. I went on the website tonight to order pizza. It states, 15.95 for a 16" and $1/per topping. When my husband went to pick up the order, the total was $49! The pizza was dry and tasted like cardboard, not a lot of sauce. I've been here before for dinner and enjoyed my meal but this experience was extremely disappointing. When I called to ask about the prices, I was told, "Oh, ya, we need to change the prices on the website." Cost of each pizza was $23 or $24 now! My son said, "Dominoes is better." read more

I've been to Holi Cannoli numerous times since they've opened, but this is my first review, and I can safely say each time is an excellent experience! The wonderful thing about HC is that it's a family owned/operated restaurant and it shows! They treat everyone like they are family! The food is fantastic, it tastes like it was made with love! Not sure of what wine to get with your dinner? Just ask! The staff is always very helpful in helping our party decide. Rule of thumb: when your food arrives, tell yourself before you start eating that you want to take half of it home with you later, even if "later" is 3 hours from now. You won't regret it! Best Italian food around anywhere! Family owned and operated. Delicious anti pasta plate, muscles and grilled calamari. Had a Friday night special of baked cod, absolutely wonderful. The freshness can't be beat. My husband and I have been to many Italian restaurants from Chicago to Lake Geneva and this is consistently the best. Our only worry is they will get so busy in summer that we won't get in the door. Wait staff has always been great as well. My family and I stopped to eat and noticed the prices were much too high ($18 a small pizza) and were discussing amongst ourselves whether we should stay. The decision was made for us when the manager rudely yelled at my aunts and I to "GET OUT" of the bathroom. We had a reservation at Holi Cannoli early Saturday evening. We are a group of 7 adults who got together for a meal. We all had a complete meal, appetizers, drinks and most had a desert. Although I didn't see the bill,l it must have been substantial. The food was all very good as was the service from the waitresses. After completing the meal, one of our group had to go to the restroom. While she was gone we sat at the table having a conversation. Total time for this was maybe 20 minutes. Suddenly, the HOSTESS, whom I believe is the owner, barged right into our conversation, while we were waiting for our missing group member to return to the table, announced that we had to leave the table because there were customers waiting to be seated. A perfect example of a rude business owner whose business would prosper to a greater extent if she would kindly remove her presence from the restaurant and just stop by once in a while to pick up her money and leave. In all fairness to her employees, the sevice and food were top notch. A two star rating with the owner involved OR a 5 star without the owner. read more

We have been to this restaurant several times. The food, service and friendliness of the entire staff is refreshing. It's not super fancy inside but it is kept nice. We have enjoyed the coal fired pizza for its cracker thin crust. If you like thick crust, lots of sauce Chicago style, you shouldn't order it. My wife ordered the mussels that were on special tonight and several people at the table tried them and pronounced them excellent. A real gem of a restaurant in an out of the way place. Make sure you call for reservations on weekends as they get quite busy, which should tell you something. read more

I go here every time I run in the Kettle Moraine State Forest for a race. It has become a tradition. Their food is amazing and at a very reasonable price. The staff are attentive and courteous. The owner is always there and talks up the guests. You can tell that she loves what she does. One of the best little places that I frequent. It is always busy so I recommend getting there near the beginning of the dinner shift otherwise you may wait a little. However that is not bad either since they bring you bread which just happens to be insane. I could live off their bread alone. read more

A group of friends (all women) and I were on a motorcycle ride in Wisconsin when we got caught in a torrential downpour. We decided to pull over at the first place we saw which turned out to be Holi Cannoli. We went in and stood in the vestibule for a moment to gather our thoughts and the hostess (who turns out to be the owner) came out to yell at us to be careful of her "open" sign hanging in the window. We went in and asked if we could be seated for some coffee/tea and were told the coffee machine was broken and they didn't have any tea. We were told we could only sit at the bar if we ordered alcohol not non-alcoholic beverages. It was very clear that we were unwanted. We went back outside and then decided we would buy drinks and just not drink them if that was what it took to stay dry for a little bit longer. The hostess made a big deal about the fact that we had gotten the floor wet (like the rest of the customers coming in from the rain didn't count?) and it was very uncomfortable. The bartender was super nice though and told us not to worry. We ordered cappuccino and espresso, then hot soup then deserts. I will give them this - their tiramasu and cheesecake are exceptionally good! We are a group of professional women who just happen to ride motorcycles. We don't mind spending money and we tip well. It's not fun to be discriminated against and we would have loved going back to Holi Cannoli for dinner if we had just been treated decently the first time. While the bartender tried to make up for the rudeness of the owner, there is no way I would ever spend another dime of my money there. read more

This is a fun family Italian restaurant. The pasta is always prepared just right (you choose your sauce); the gnocchi is particularly good. My favorites are the Putanesca or Bolognese. The chicken dishes are very good. If you order one of the cannoli deserts, they easily serve 2. Service is good to excellent, but the restaurant is busy. You may wait a few minutes at the bar for your reservation, but the bartenders and service people are friendly and fun. Drinks are generous (pay attention if you are the driver). I can't agree with the other reviewers. I went to this restaurant last week and it was a disappointment. First, we were served complimentary bread--- a crumbly foccacia, a small piece of Italian bread, and a piece of flatbread. Both the flatbread and Italian bread were very burned... I can't even imagine why they would present them to a diner. The marinara dipping sauce was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. We ordered two side salads and two entrees. The crust on the chicken parm was soggy; the eggplant parm was incredibly salty. A very ordinary house pinot grigio at $6.00 a glass seemed extravagant. I will say that for a week night, the house was busy... and loud. Sorry... I wouldn't go again. Maybe I'd hit the Olive Garden first. Sad to say. read more

Food was good but worst service I've seen in years. My family of 3 walk into an empty restaurant and are told we are going to be busy tonight and we have to eat and be done within the hour. I should have left there. Then while ordering we ask about kids menu for my 4 year old and are interrupted by some guy saying they are not serving kids portions tonight. So I had my son share my pizza. Besides that some big mouth Italian lady, I believe an owner is running around talk loud enough I can't have a conversation with my wife. I don't care if your group of 20 canceled keep it to yourself. Finally since the group canceled they rearranged the area by sliding the tables and chairs around. This is a great example of a great place in the middle of nowhere. The parking lot is full and you can tell they are mostly locals (a great sign). I never give five stars but this place is a definite place to come and have a great meal with a great staff. If you are by yourself sit at the bar, you will be treated like family. WILL NEVER GO BACK. Called to order 2 pizzas to go. Was told the kitchen was too busy to accept any orders. I told her I wasn't in a big hurry and didn't mind if it took longer. I finally convinced her to take my order. She then told me it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. ?? I almost didn't place a order because what she said. Went in to pick it up and paid for it. I asked to speak with the manager to explain he almost lost a customer. I explained what took place earlier. He lolled at me and as he waved his hands to show me the restaurant was busy, he raised his voice and told me the kitchen was too busy to take more orders. Then he said, don't worry we will take care of you. I told him I was just informing him so he would know and I didn't want anything. He shrugged his shoulders and walked away. After ordering a nice bottle of wine (Caymus) the waitress returned to the table with the bottle and stated that the printed price for the wine was wrong. She said that nobody usually orders the wine and that the owner decided to raise the price $40. This place maybe good for some but not for us. One thing I don't eat seafood and this place had a lot of that. Didn't have much of straight pasta on menu. This is the pasta we have and this is sauce no lasagna. You could add a meatballs 6 dollars. WOW. We settle on Pizza which wasn't that good. We will not be coming back. I have been here before when visiting friends in WI, where I once lived, and really enjoyed it. But my last experience was bad. We waited 45 minutes to have our reservation honored with no effort to accommodate us or make it up to us. When I complained to staff they basically said they would do nothing, talk to the manager, but my friends did not want to. Then the service was poor--yet they insisted on a 20% service charge for our group of 7, even when I asked about it. All very disappointing. They have good food but are riding their reputation and taking advantage of their customers. They need to do better. read more

This restaurant is like being at a friends house from beginning to end; very friendly, Italian atmosphere with Frank singing in the background. What sets it a part is that the food is really delicious. When we were seated we were advised that Papa had made the special and of course we had to order it, along with baked clams, fried mozzarella and pizza...for two people. I have been to Holi Cannoli several times but I will not be going back. The food was good and is always above average. Our waitress Malissa was awesome but had to be as she was covering for very poor management. Malissa had to make all of our drinks and when ordering wine she had to clean all the glasses herself and we had a party of nine. We sat down at 645 pm and were asking for the check at 8:15. The owner of the restaurant asked us to go to the bar and leave our table as she needed the table before we even received the check. We were not hanging out at the table for an extended period of time but she gave us the bums rush out the door. She also told the next set of customers who cheered us out the door after an 1 hr and 15 min meal that we were the delay in their seating. My father in law is 91 years old and this was more than embarrassing. This same owner refused to take a take out order at 6 pm on a different evening. If this same owner takes your reservation we have learned to call back as it is always messed up. This last episode was the last straw. I can't believe she asked us to leave before the check arrived and it ruined a great evening with family. read more

Heard about this restaurant from a client in Elkhorn so we drove up Sunday night. I felt lt like I was in a friends' house-very friendly reception, waitress and the owners were extremely welcoming. The food tasted like we were eating at an Italian home. I had spaghetti bolognese which was meaty and tasty. My boyfriend had a Greek pizza and it was also wonderful.. We capped out dinner off with a cannoli which was rich and creamy. I will go back to Holi Cannoli to try other dishes because our food tasted homemade and delicious. read more

My friend and I had dinner here and we were not impressed. They charged for every little thing and the food was meh. My pesto pasta was very bland, I took it home and added some flavor to it and it was better. The cheese bred was good, but more sauce was another charge. I'm surprised they didn't charge for a refill on water. Portions were normal for Europe, but small for the prices. The atmosphere wasn't bad and if someone else wanted to go there again I'd go, but if I had a choice I would go elsewhere. read more

Our first visit and won't be our last. Service was excellent from the time we walked in. The owner seated us and when Hubby realized he didn't have his reading glasses she took hers off and handed them to him :). We both tried the chefs special and were allowed to substitute the spicy sauce with the Alfredo sauce thanks to our excellent Waiter Rich (most restaurants do not like substitutions) Holi Cannoli only cares that you enjoy your meal. The black muscles, Shrimp and Calamari were supper fresh, it was an amazing meal! If you stop you must also try the Tiramisu! It is wonderful!
