We celebrated our 1-year anniversary at Sweet Aroma last night, and it could not have been more perfect! Their Sunday "special" is truly something special, 6 courses of incredible food: a shared appetizer, soup, salad, two entrées, and dessert. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We also ordered a stuffed artichoke, and honestly, it was one of the most amazing things I've ever tasted - tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. For dessert, they surprised us with a HUGE slice of coconut cake to celebrate our anniversary, which was so thoughtful (and so delicious!). We arrived to the restaurant at 6pm (no reservation), and were told that our table would be 40-50 minutes. We waited at the bar and got drinks, where the bartenders were quite lovely and apologetic for the 1.5 hour wait it ended up being until we got a table. Once at the table we received two pieces of stale bread. The soup and salad were delicious, but entrees not at all. The lasagna came out cold on top and the waitress blamed it on the cold air coming out of the vent next to us. She took it back and re-heated it. There was nothing taken off our final bill for the cold dish. We also ordered the linguini with broccoli and it was just noodles coated in olive oil for $30! The waitress seemed like she had better things to do than serve us. Even after explaining we had a train to catch, getting our bill and paying took over 15 minutes. If you're visiting the Lake Geneva area, this is a great little Italian restaurant to try out. I tried using Yelp directions to get here and had to stop at the gas station to find this restaurant so it wasn't far, but it didn't lead us directly to the restaurant so beware of that. I visited last weekend and was able to make a reservation at 7:30pm instead of 6:30pm which i wanted. Do make a reservation because the gentleman hosting was only seating reservations from what I could tell. I ordered the Veal Monaco and my husband had the lasagna. By early evening they were already out of the Scallops that I wanted to try, but maybe next time. The service from this particular waitress however was in serious need. She was never around and she had us waiting over 1 hour for the final meal to come out and there was another table of 4 and we were 2 that was after us and able to get their meals in a more timely fashion. The veal was so tender and good and my husband enjoyed his lasagna although he prefers stuffed shells. Too bad you can't tell what will always be on the menu for the evening. The soup was an Italian meatball soup and very nice and refreshing but the portion was very small, but perfect so I didn't overdo it. The salads were house made dressings with romaine and cucumbers and tomatoes and other vegetables. Very good too, but again small portions. The dinner plate was smaller than I expected for an Italian restaurant because I am one to always take something home, but there wasn't but 4 ounces of veal that was served. The broccoli was steamed and prepared nicely. Would I come back again? Of course, the food was excellent and it was reasonable priced. The sauce on the pasta tasted like bone broth, which was very unappealing to me. After waiting about 20 minutes for the cannoli that I ordered for dessert, I asked to have it wrapped, which took another 10 minutes. By then the restaurant was busy with people waiting near the entrance which was also the cash register area. We finally managed to pay and escape, only to have someone speeding on HWY X run into our vehicle as I was backing out from the Handicapped spot. I have tried the meat lasagna and the eggplant parmesan. The lasagna was excellent, however the meat sauce was oddly sweet for my liking since it seemed to have brisket in it. But, the eggplant parmesan had good tasting sauce and big pieces. Overall, a must stop! read more

Sweet Aroma's location might feel a little "in the middle of nowhere" but it draws crowds craving some home-cooked Italian staples for a reason! The atmosphere is a little kitschy with leaves, vines, old school family photos, and lights serving as the main decor, but the food is tasty and the service is good. We arrived a little early for our reservation, so we had a drink in the bar. There were a fair amount of seats at the bar and a good selection of mixed drinks, wine, and beers. Overall, a good space to accommodate waiting patrons and the bartender was friendly and efficient. The menu features a good array of homemade Italian staples. We tried the Spinach Abruzzo appetizer (sausage + spinach) and it was enough for a good sampling for a family of 5. It was light, but heavy on the garlic (date nighters beware!) and a good complement to the bread provided on the table. The bread was crusty and fresh and refilled plentifully throughout our meal. No fresh parm on the table though, just the canned stuff. Our family of five tried a variety of dishes - fettucini alfredo, Tuscan chicken, Pasta Mona Lisa, Chicken Salerno, and a seafood pasta dish that was on special. Everyone's portion was huge & everyone enjoyed their dinner. The chef even accommodated my craving for fettucini alfredo, which wasn't on the menu, but he happily put together. It wasn't the best alfredo I've ever had, but it hit the spot in a pinch. Our meals were also served with a large family style salad and minestrone soup. The salad was crisp and fresh, but not a huge portion for sharing among five people. The minestrone soup was the low point of the meal - it tasted like it came out of a can and was topped with shreds of mozzarella cheese. Waste of space! The service was a little intense for my tastes. Towards the end of the meal, it felt like our dishes were being swept away before we could even finish our bites and put our forks down. The staff was so intent on picking up empty dishes that it felt a little vulture-like. I also really dislike when restaurants clear the dishes of patrons who have finished eating while others are still enjoying their meal. Family Italian menu in an intimate setting - definitely one of the best in the area. My husband and I were looking for a date night spot while our daughter could stay with grandpa nearby. This place did not disappoint. We sat at a wonderful little table by the fire and they had cozy Christmas decorations up. Biggest advice: come hungry! In true Wisconsin fashion, there is plenty of food. Bread with marinara (super yummy), soup AND salad are all included with any entree which makes everything a superior value. Pasta dishes in particular are hefty portions. For the gluten-free or carb-conscious, I had a nice chicken dish on a bed of spinach and green beans. My husband on the other hand indulged in the lasagna with meat sauce. A few nits that would help bring out the full romantic vibe potential of the place. Our server looked like a deer in headlights when my husband asked about the Italian wines on the list. I know wine and Wisconsin aren't a common combo, but either the menu could have a few tasting notes or the severs should have a bullet or two. Second, the other sever was super friendly and a good server - however just take the volume down a notch so the other tables don't hear the whole conversation. Dinner here included a 90 minute drive each way and it was so worth it! We were greeted by Gianni, one of the owners, who seated us and made sure we were comfortable as one of our party was in a wheelchair. Our waitress was super friendly and professional as she explained the evenings entree and drink specials. The food was extremely authentic and extraordinarily delicious! The chef Phillip, the other owner, came out to our table more than once to inquire about our satisfaction with our meals, which of course were perfect! Dessert included cannolis, cheesecake and tiramisu which along with coffee was the perfect way to end a wonderful meal. I look forward to dining here again in the future. read more
