First time visiting Gus's drive-in on a Sunday afternoon. I had the heavy Chevy burger and my wife ordered the Patty melt. We also got a side of onion rings and French fries. The burger and Patty melt came out hot and fresh. The burger was nice and juicy and so delicious. The Patty melt was delicious as well. The fries were nice and crispy. The onion rings were just ok. The restaurant was nice and clean and there was plenty of tables. We both got ice cream to go and the Reeses ripple flavor was very good. I stopped by on a Friday for lunch. The place was fun. There were some video game arcades. Friday fish fry was excellent. Fried chicken was real crisp. Chilli cheese dog was flavorful. "Big Gus" out front is unique and fun. "The King", Elvis, on the inside was great. Very mid 20th century burger joint atmosphere. So fun! On main road with plenty of parking. See if you can find the rusted classic car hiding in the bushes. Bathroom was clean. 5 stars! Ice cream: I had a classic banana split with cashews added. Your tyoical banana split very good except the "pineapple" and "strawberries". Canned pineapple and what seemed to be syrup dipped strawberries were not what i expected and were terrible. I would never put that pineapple on anything. The strawberries were very diappointing, too, as i hoped for sliced fresh strawberry. 2 stars for the "fruit". My friend got the equivalent of a cookie dough and brownie dairy queen blizzard. He liked it but not fantastic. 4 stars. Food averages to 3 stars Really fun spot despite the fruit disappointment. I have been to this establishment in the past and it can go either way, however yesterday it was spot on. They were extremely busy, and they were also hosting one of their old car shows, but the service was good considering how busy they were. The food was cooked as ordered and served hot not warm. The burgers were ordered well done and that was exactly how they came out. The fries were hot and seasoned well with just the right amount of salt. The drinks are self serve however props to the restaurant for ensuring the soda was filled and not empty when customers made their selections. They only complaint would be the cleanliness. It took sometime to get a workers attention to clean the booth, however, once I did get the young man's attention he was very friendly and thanked me for stopping in which speaks volumes for the staff. Great diner! It was Saturday at lunch time when our group of 7 walked in. It was busy but we really didn't have to wait to put our orders in. Two very pleasant order takers kept things moving. Waited about 5 minutes or so for our order...one gyro and one southern slaw pork tenderloin for my wife and I. The gyro sandwich was huge and delicious and the pork tenderloin and was just as good. A great atmosphere of the classic 50's diners. Some games to play and make sure you bring quarters. They have Ms. Pac-Man. My personal as l favorite! Get there early because this place gets busy! My friend and I had placed the order for pick-up and the line was insane when we pulled up 30 minutes after opening. We took the food back to her place to eat since it was super busy and the cheeseburger I had was tasty. I also got an order of onion rings, which weren't crispy, but they didn't fall apart when I bit into them either. I tried a few of my friend's fries, and they were alright. All in all, there are better places to get food at and it is just okay. They have a lot to pick from on their menu, so I'm glad I tried it and it was worth the trip. read more

Love coming here for a fun experience. Took my Mom for her 89th birthday. Four people...spent over 50 bucks. Mom ordered a bottle of Sprecher Rootbeer and asked for a cup of ice. The cashier gave her a regular soda cup. Then,, a woman who seemed to be the manager came over and ripped the cup away from me and said she could have a tiny water glass of ice. We purchased four drinks. The manager made us feel like we were attempting to steal another soda. And...she put the cup I had been holding back on the stack of regular cups for the next customer. Probably should have been tossed out after I was holding it. If you spend 3 bucks for a bottle of rootbeer, you can spare an extra soda cup filled with ice instead of the junky small water cups and bad attitude . Thanks for ruining the experience. People obviously come here for the vibe, not the restaurant. The food is decent, but not why you would come back here. The indoor seating is limited and not suggested for most people over 200 pounds. The outside picnic tables are pretty basic metal seating and they have the music going. I had the broasted chicken with fries and was satisfied with the portion size and the price. Everything was hot and crispy and filled me up. Can't say it's a place I would go out of my way for, but it sure beats McDonalds. read more

My East Troy day trip included my lunch stop, the disappearing old school drive in which had no skate/car service but the walk in restaurant is pretty cool because it's a fun family destination spot that attracts people from the all ages. The inside has the front order counter, cool kitch all over and a dining area on the side with a few kids games of chance to get the parents shell out a couple bucks, everyone looked liked they had a great time. This is definitely a great local gathering spot for the are and a good option that I chose. The menu is large and has a lot of great options with good looking food/cold treats getting picked up or brought out to the tables, one bacon burger looked fantastic as a customer walked it past me and a to go order had big wrapped sandwich's. Since broasted chicken was on the menu and it's not very common on menus I ordered it, 2 piece is $6.19 vs the 4 piece for 7.89 with frys and coleslaw, do the math because the 4 piece is what I ordered. Jack pot because I was told 15-20 minuets which means it's cooked to order and thank you for that. The broasted chicken and frys were cooked to order fresh, thank you for cooking the frys timely with the chicken because it was all hot and ready together, not laying around on my visit. The frys were crinkle cut, not my fav but slightly seasoned hot/crispy on the outside. The coleslaw was cold creamy on the sweet side. The broasted chicken was smaller pieces with a thin crispy coating and moist. The chicken was hot-crispy moist which I liked and I imagined a hot/spicy version really hitting the spot to up it. Gus's is a staple in the East Troy area. There are lots of great fast food items here. In particular, they seem to be known for their gyros as well as their custard. I opted for gyros on my most recent visit but they missed the mark. The meat here was gritty and a member of my party didn't receive their side order of fries. I also noticed that the staff bringing food out to people (outdoor dining only) were not wearing gloves or masks. (Not sure about the staff who were preparing the food.) Though my experience here wasn't the greatest, I hope to one day come back and try their broasted chicken once the COVID-19 situation calms down or they raise their health/safety standards in light of the pandemic. read more

I visited this place with the #MAVWC, the Milwaukee Area Volkswagen Club, on a sunny September Saturday morning. We made the drive from Milwaukee following Highway 59. It was a beautiful drive through Eagle, following a section of the Kettle Moraine Scenic Highway, and on a spectacular twisty road that shall remain unnamed because it was so awesome to drive we dont want to wreck it! It's really cute and full of retro decor here. And the food is great! There were all kinds of drive in favorites, full of shakes, malts, sundaes and fried food. I'm healthy so I had a greek chicken salad and it was so yummy. Mmm! We sat outside and enjoyed our food at a large picnic table. We departed and followed scenic roads back to Milwaukee. I shared about my visit with other car friends, who said pretty much every Saturday night is a car show with all kinds of neat cruising vehicles on display.
