This is a good hotel, it's located in downtown Dover, so it's very close to everything in town. There are lots of restaurants and shopping near the hotel. The Hotel Staff was very friendly and the hotel was very clean. The hotel decor needs some updating, but overall this was a great stay for the price. read more

Please, please do yourself a favor and book somewhere else...anywhere else. This place is the absolute worst. It smells ya'll....just gross. And..... The ice machines don't work The pool doesn't work-not open covered in green slime Elevators are broken And not all rooms have a refrigerator and when asked if one could be brought to our room....wouldn't you know it. The answer was no. When we were checking in we were told "you might want to park your car near your room so you can watch it...we are by the freeway so, you know". I mean. Oh dear god. And the reason I had to stay in this "hotel" ... is due to my, what I like to call, noisy sleeping habits...my son calls it.."mom you better stop snoring or I'm going to smoother you" issues...I had to get a room last minute so my son could sleep to be rested for his lacrosse tournament...blah, blah, blah....and I'm in this room of horrors waiting for Jason Voorhees to knock on my door... He got the better end of the deal while sleeping in a clean, updated, safe room at the Fairfield Inn. What I do for my kids....but I digress..... We booked the hotel on the way headed back to Boston on a road trip from South Carolina. We arrived at the hotel around 1am. We loved the idea that check out was at 12 allowing us to sleep in later. We checked in and we headed to our room and went to bed. We woke up to housekeeping knocking on our door asking if we needed anything. We looked about the room a little closer. We noticed the room was a mess. There was a water bottle cap on the side of the bed. The bathtub had dirty marks that looked like butt stains. There was mold in the ceiling in the shower. The room door had a deep scaring that looked carved in. Even the picture had bubbling on it. The desk in the room looked like it had never been dusted/cleaned. The carpet in the room just needs a good shampoo. There were brown stains and red stains. Maybe blood and feces? Just for the heck of I decided to check the air filter in the heat/air conditioning unit. It looked like it had never been cleaned We went to check out at the front desk. They had a sticker on the COVID glass shield that said "We pride ourselves on cleanliness if there is an issue with im your room please let us know so we can make it right." We told the desk representative the room was disgusting and he gave us 30% off the room and apologized. He had said that the hotel was under renovation and when we came back the hotel would be a lot nicer. He also noted that we had switched rooms. When we hadn't. He was confused by this. It was then we realized that we booked a king bed and we received 2 queen beds. read more

I stayed here on a business trip. Very fated and needs a fix up. Looks like it was a conference center at one time. Felt like a cheap motel. Rooms were old and worn. Furniture was beat up. Paint on walls and ceiling was dinged up and discolored. Carpet was very worn. The old steel door of the room didn't close al the way on its own and needed to be forced shut. Light pole in the parking lot flickered on and off like a scene from an old movie. Exterior could atlest use a a good pressure washing. Cords for the TV, microwave,lamp, and other things were crammed into a power strip. Although the room didn't feel clean, I think it was cleaner than it seemed. This holiday inn wasn't up to par with others that I've stayed at. The building itself needs to be revamped or at least repainted. The swimming pool area isn't pleasant at all; a little trashy looking. The staff were very nice though, made my stay very pleasant. Well at least our room was clean. Visited this Holiday inn with my hunny over Memorial Day weekend. I had some rewards points I wanted to use so we figured why not? We had to wait a bit when we checked in but that wasn't a big deal to me. I did however have some serious issues with the lack of amenities. Pool wasn't open! Fitness center was under construction! NO free breakfast ! Seriously you all are offering your guests nothing ! I've never been to a holiday inn that did not offer free breakfast. We won't be back. read more

This is not a "typical" holiday inn, and was apparently another chain prior to the name change. It is as clean as "very old" furnishings allow. The non-smoking area is permeated with the scent of old, moldy smoke. WiFi is existent in name-only; we had to go to Starbucks down the street just to download a very small update to our CRM system (125Mb). The hotel WiFi both in our room and in the lobby wouldn't allow us to download even a small file, let alone stream YouTube or Amazon Prime. The A/C is very noisy, and the beds are very hard. The property does offer pillows ranging from Limp Pasta to Concrete, while the beds are in the range of "hardened flour." That being said, it was the only hotel in the area with available rooms over the week including Memorial Day. I suspect it's the poor ratings and local knowledge keeping it essentially empty. Caveat Emptor, the "free" breakfast is a scam. You'll pay $7.00 for the McDonalds-quality breakfast available along the highway for around $3-$5.00. The front desk girl was exceptionally friendly in comparison to the restaurant and housekeeping staff, whose demeanor can be found under "surly" and "resentful" in the dictionary. We cheerily said "Good morning" to a housekeeper, who replied "not this early, it isn't." The restaurant manager merely grunted at us. The final oddity was the semi tractor/trailer parked under everyone's window on one side of the property; it was running all night long. Why it wasn't parked in the larger parking area out back, in addition to taking up at least 15 parking spaces is unknown. It would have been much better served for everyone had it been parked in the much larger area behind the motel, where the driver would have had turnaround space, not kept everyone awake with the idling engine, nor been unbelievably loud with brake hydraulics so early in the morning. Finally, on our third night, a crackhead/meth-head was found lying down in the wet parking lot at 2 a.m. The hotel management seemed to think it was no big deal, and 45 mins later asked them to leave. Instead, they crawled into the backseat of a car that was in the lot, filled with other people (see attached photo). This, in addition to night four, where there was a three-car tailgate party happening with a lot of loud music, beer, and kids running around until midnight. Overall...unless desperate for a room, I'd recommend looking elsewhere even if it costs a couple of bucks more. read more

Looking for a low rate hotel room with a sid wof racism? Then this is your place. The staff was standoffish and unwelcoming at the front desk, and Deb. L this morning wanted to argue with us about our government rate hotel rooms and insist we pay full price for a room. When it was explained to her that we were well within our rights to use the govt rate she dug her heels in. Meanwhile we were passed by a white patron who said he used his govt rate and was never questioned. Racist much?! After she increased our rate we were then told in a snide tone to have a nice day! Very old hotel. Rooms are significantly outdated. Toilets are crooked, shower levers don't properly regulate temperature. I rarely review (but should because most often accommodations are acceptable!) but this hotel was WAY below standard. The hallway was dark and institutional, and the entire hotel was very musty. We were with a sports team, so were all in the same boat - no reason to complain while there because there was no other solution. read more

Stayed here for the weekend while my husband had reserve duty at Dover Air Force Base. I've seen some really crappy areas outside of military bases but this area wasn't as bad. The base is super close to this hotel, lots of restaurants to go to, and Dover Downs is only 5 minutes away. I liked the on-site lounge/restaurant as well as free HBO in our room. The area is a little rough but I did feel generally safe at this hotel where at others nearby I don't think I would have. read more

I had major car trouble and had to find a hotel which took dogs. I found this Holiday Inn, and boy was I lucky. Hotel was very clean and attractive. Stay was so friendly and helpful. I had not packed any personal item because I had planned on driving straight through to my destination, they had a comb,toothpaste and brush for my. I'm here for drill weekend so, I didn't pay or choose to be here. The front desk clerk hit me with a ton of info when I came in, that can be good and bad. my room is close to the elevator which I like. I don't like that I smell a strong smoke smell as soon as I get off the elevator. The elevator fits 2-3 people at best buy there are 2 elevators. It's a large hotel so hopefully there's more elevators than the two I saw. The laundry facility looks old and busted and they want $2 to wash and $2 to dry. I wouldn't mind that if I wasn't using grandma's Kenmore from the early 90s. The restaurant area looks nice, especially for the Dover area. If I was paying myself and had a choice, I'd stay at the Hilton or the hotel next to it I forget the name...they are up to par for what I expect. I was worried by reading reviews online, but I'm very happy my family and I stayed here. Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend. The hotel was nice and quiet, clean, and very convenient to be right down the street from the casino. 5 stars mainly because of Kelly working the front desk. She was absolutely amazing! Very friendly and accommodating. The room was short some towels and shampoos (there was four of us in a room with double beds), and she immediately helped me get them as soon as I asked and never made me feel like I was bothering her. The room was very clean. No problems whatsoever except I wish there was a mini fridge. There's also no continental breakfast, but they have cheap breakfast (around $7-9). Also there's a great diner (Hollywood diner) right down the street! Will stay here again next time we come to Dover. read more

I stayed here for two nights (Oct. 19-21). Upon arrival, the night time front desk lady was super nice she had my room keys and paper work ready when I walked in the door..(My boyfriend had called in advance) When I entered my room, it was good for the price. Clean and comfortable. Microwave, Cable, and Refrigerator. I'm giving this hotel 2 stars due to the super rude encounter I had with the general manger along with the asst general manager! The asst general manager was so rude to me I was appalled. The fact that she treats her guest as such I will never be back at this hotel again!!! I've stayed here a few times before and thought it was generally clean, and OK for the price. However, my last stay was full of disappointment and regret. The floor I stayed on reeked of marijuana and it didn't appear that management was prepared to do anything about it. The smell became unbearable and began to seep into my room. When I brought it to the staff's attention, I was advised that they were investigating it. The next day the odor persisted and was accompanied by the smell of cigarettes. I booked a room here with my girlfriend in May for the firefly festival. We flew in from California only to find that our room reservation had been cancelled. I believe that more than 1 phone call and an email would have been appropriate to notify that our room would not be available. The manager was professional and courteous to our situation by finding us a place to stay but it resulted in us paying an inflated rate from the original price we paid booking with them. This is the worst Holiday Inn express I have ever dealt with. My daughter-in-law recently got orders in Dover and my husband and I were helping them get a room. They wanted my husband to send his credit card information in an insecure email. My husband had checked me in all over the United States and we have NEVER ran into this situation. Anyone familiar with Dover knows the availability of places to stay is limited and to charge a young couple who were recently married and away from home an exorbitant amount of money is beyond ridiculous. Shame on IHG as well because they were unable to help. This is a recently refreshed Holiday Inn. The carpet, linens, furniture, etc. all seem recent. The building itself is quite old and worn. The doors, elevator, bathroom fixtures, etc appear original. We're having no problems staying here. The room actually appears to be new and we're very comfortable. Fresh, bright and crisp linen on the King bed and huge firm pillows. Bathroom spotless (mini Bath & Body Works shampoo, condition and lotion), carpet appears new, no stains anywhere! Quiet hallways.... Clean remote (Yep, inspect and wipe those down too!) 32" flat panel TV, free wifi and cool faux leather headboard and maroon back drop. Good for a one night stay... Our room doesn't have a refrigerator not sure this is just some or all. Oh, and there is faint smell of smoke in the hallway which makes sense as they used to offer smoking rooms, not strong at all but still noticeable. I was in town for a friend's wedding this past weekend (10/10/2020) upon waiting to be checked in the lobby smelled horribly of gas. Once I am checked into my room the room immediately smelled of mildew and mold so much so my partner and I's noses were stinging. After bringing this to the front desk's attention there was no sense of urgency or concern for the issue. No manager was brought out to speak with us all we were offered was another room (Yeah as if I would want to now stay in a hotel that stinks of fumes! No thank you!) and then was told they would need to open a claim in order to POSSIBLY refund my money which is now gone. Ontop of that the person at the front desk refused to give me their name and showed no caring at all towards the issue. Is this how you typically run your business? With staffing who could care les about the well being of not only yourselves but also your customers who pay good money to stay in your establishment? I have never experienced such a lack of customer service on a trip. Very disappointed and will now never stay at another Holiday Inn. read more

Where do we begin? Check in was ok, got up to our room and the hallway reeked of pot. We left for a while. Came back around 11:00 p.m.. There was some sort of loud party going on in the restaurant area. There were a ton of cars and no place to park. We finally made it in. At first glance this hotel looks great...at first smell, this hotel smells terrible. While every room is nonsmoking, nearly every room occupied by myself and others in my group smells of smoke. The beds are very uncomfortable. I've slept in hundreds of hotel beds and this ranks amongst the worst. There is a convenient plug in the lamp, but it is too loose to hold my iPhone charger and my iPad charger won't fit in the tight space. There is a rusty crack in the bathtub. Cool. read more

I woke up in a room on the second floor from a nap with ants crawling on me. They gave me another room on the third floor, which didn't have ants, so that was a plus. I went down for breakfast at 7:15 AM. The restaurant opens at 7:00, but nobody was around. I asked the front desk if anyone was around to serve food. The lady said in a sarcastic tone, "Sir, the restaurant opens at 7:00, you'll have to wait." I told her it was 7:15. She said nothing, but huffed and turned away from me as she called the cook in his room. I guess he lives in the hotel. The cook wasn't awake. The groggy cook came into the restaurant wiping his eyes and putting on his stained cook shirt. He served me an expired cup of yogurt. I didn't eat it because it was expired. I halfway felt bad for waking him up, but then I realized he was 15 minutes late to open his restaurant. Then I told myself I should eat at a gas station next time. That evening, I asked the lady at the front desk if they had coffee in the lobby. She said, "The only free coffee is in the room. You can get coffee in the restaurant, but you'll have to pay for it." I didn't want to wake the cook again. Her tone suggested that she had been asked this question countless times before and was annoyed to hear it again. "I'm sorry angry front desk lady," I thought, but there are only so many questions you can be asked working at the front desk of a hotel. You might begin to hear the same ones over and over the longer you work here: Where is the pool? What time is breakfast? Can I have more towels? Why are there ants crawling on me? Do you have coffee? Can I please purchase some expired yogurt for breakfast? Where is the nearest gas station? Good thing their competition doesn't have containers of coffee in the lobby, free for their guests... This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at, driving in it looked decent. It was evident the place needed some work upon further inspection. Some of the rooms we looked at had broken furniture. The worst part was the night manager, she was totally incompetent. Her lack of understanding about customer service is astonishing. When loading our car another car pulled in, a woman got out, dropped her pants, and pissed in the parking lot (disgusting). The WiFi is slow! Stopped here for an unplanned stop when vehicle broke down. As I am normally pretty content with holiday inns this one didn't seem up to par as most of them are. The pillows were awful, the bed hard and hotel seemed a little outdated in areas. The toilet in the bathroom leaked along with tub draining so slow hard to shower. The hotel was clean and staff was very friendly this my reasoning for a 3 star. Would I stay here again? It's a Holiday Inn. And it's in Dover. It's not the Ritz in downtown Manhattan and you can't expect it to be super nice. The bed creaked and the view out my window was of a Kmart that was going out of business, but it was clean and I felt safe. The gym was meh, but once again, look where I was. I came here for a girls weekend and we got the room for 65 a nite. MUCH CHEAPER than the casino hotel. The tv was a lil small but was flat and it had direct tv so it felt like home. It's also right down the street from the mall, casino, air force base, colleges and right near downtown old Dover. It wasn't the closest hotel to those places but I can only give my review for this hotel and it met all expectations. I would stay there again. read more

I stayed here for one night and I really wasn't too pleased at all. The cable on the tv didn't work properly it kept going out neither did the remote. I called down to front desk and told them it needed batteries and the guy asked me if I was pointing the remote at the box as if I was incompetent or something. He acted as if he didn't want to do his job by coming up to replace the mix match batteries. The furniture in the room was old and worn out the refrigerator didn't get cold, the comforter had stains and a cigarette burn hole in it. To top it off the next morning the water was brown in the toilet, sink and tub it took over an hour for it to clear up! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Came in town to see family, booked this hotel directly. Paid 145.00 for the night. Beds are like sleeping on a slab of concrete, there's an A/C unit in the room like you'd find at a cheap motel that is so loud it's difficult to hear the TV or another person speaking, there is no iron, no laundry bag, no cups to use to rinse your mouth with when brushing teeth; in the bathroom, there is a water drip into the exhaust fan that drips down into the tub; no refrigerator or microwave in room, and the pool wasn't even open and this is Memorial Day weekend! Would not spend this kind of money on this place. They have a vending machine by the exit door and our daughter bought some chocolate that was melted from the heat. The wifi signal was so weak, it didn't even register on the iPad. The water was brown and the employees didn't notify us not to drink it. She blamed it on a recent area fire. read more

The hotel front desk staff are very rude and racist. This hotel should be a motel, the room smelled like urine and mildew. The room was dark and old , we requested a microwave which had old food from years ago stuck inside. The elevator was made for two people and I only weight 125 and had to squeeze my kid and luggage on it. They over charged my account and tried to deny it. I called the front desk manager Deborah to dispute the charge and she hung up on me. I immediately contacted my bank and filed a police report against them. Please stay far away from this place, I think the people who check you in are on drugs and thieves. This place should be on news and shut down before it's too late. We left after being threaten in front of our young kids. The Fairfield inn is one block over from this crap hole , please stay there .
