So glad there's a grocery store out here in the middle of nowhere. I stopped by recently when I was camping in the area, and found a lot of great meal options. Since I didn't even have my ice chest or camp stove with me, my options were super limited. But I still managed to find lots of snacks, including trail mixes and dried fruits, yogurts, and a great selection of reasonably priced salads in the deli. All the food I bought here was reasonably priced and good quality. Checkout times were not bad at all and the staff was friendly. Would definitely shop here again. As an added bonus, there was a lot of covered parking on one side of the building, which was nice because it was simultaneously hot and storming during my visit. read more

3/18/2024: Had to stop by enroute to Beal's AFB getting snacks while driving. Regardless of my current location, I always try buying healthy food; however, those chips . . . Oooof~ regrettably, I shouldn't have purchased or inhaled the chips enroute! BTW: The salad was delicious when I added more butter lettuce to the pre-made salad, i.e., I asked the produce department to wash the lettuce for me which surprisingly, the Dude complied . . . This market serves the community of Cool. It's not as big as a National chain store, more like a Trader Joe's. You'll likely find what you need at a premium price. They have a pretty decent wine selection. The staff there is very nice. Very convenient for the locals if they don't want to drive to neighboring Auburn to grocery shop. read more

Shelves are constantly empty, you get shocked everytime you open a door. Their backstock is never on the floor. The checkers who do not wear their badges while at work are intentionally rude to customers. read more

This used to be my go-to stopping grounds on the way to visit my mom before she passed. This market feels like if Raley's and Safeway had a baby... It's very clean, boutique feeling with the aisles being clean, easy to find product displays, and overall atmosphere. It's similar to Safeway in the way that they offer typing in one's phone number for instant on-demand rewards. They have quite a good selection of vegetarian type products given the dynamic of this being Cool, and there's not much available for grocery options. Grab a drink. Grab a deli sandwich. I do love their sandwiches. But! How hard is it to keep the veggie patties in stock (I know they are frozen)? About half the orders over the past 2 years we're told the patties are out of stock. The online app isn't accurate; it does not allow you to order every sandwich on a croissant. So I never use the app anymore. I love their sandwiches. This is specifically for boars head inside of holiday market, holiday market in general is a awesome place, but their boars head is so lazy and careless, every time I've ever ordered for pick up for them while on my short lunch, they never have it ready after 30 to 45 minutes, and when we show up, they just laugh and don't even care and completely take up most of my lunch. Holiday Market is a good sized market with a large selection of organic products. The store is clean and well lit, and the employees are super friendly. They have a great selection of beers, including many local beers. We recently visited on thanksgiving day, not only were they open and uncrowded, they were well stocked! I was expecting we might have trouble finding the items we needed but from the looks of it you could have done all your thanksgiving shopping that day and still found what you needed! My mom has ordered their thanksgiving meal for the last several years and it's delicious, just as good as homemade! All you have to do is warm it all up and you are ready to go! read more

I was blown away! Came out camping at Folsom lake from San Francisco and got rained in one night - so went up to Cool (nearest town with an atm) and needed a few supplies we forgot and more ice. This place was great we found so many good quality items we would have to go to five different spots to get at home! Kombucha, natural health remedies, yoga mats, amazing produce, Califa creamer I love from home - I didn't get all these things but they were some of the great mix of products available amongst the standard full grocery store fare. They had excellent, kind, skilled staff - available but not breathing down your neck, and they offer a great rewards program for shoppers and are employee owned. I highly recommend this spot to anyone in the area and anyone visiting that needs a snack, or a shop head in they are great! read more

We come to this Market when we are glamping in Gold Country. Of course the prices are going to be higher. It's a nice grocery store in the middle of no where. It's clean and bright. We stocked up on the great deal on firewood. We always leave a few things off of our list to shop local when we are away from home. As long as it's not a dump where we have to monitor expiration dates. We love to support the local economy. It's what we do for letting us invade your space. read more

Wow. I have been shopping at Holiday Market since 2008 and I have always been happy with the products and people working there. But today I had the worst experience ever! I guess it's good the butchers are kept in the back and not out with the public. I was looking at ground beef and trying to decide which of the four to grab when the butcher came out and grabbed all for packages. I was confused wondering if they were bad but then realized there was a customer wanting all four. I told him I was just getting ready to grab one and asked if he was going to bring more out. He was very abrupt with his response and was annoyed for me letting him know I had planned to grab one. His response was, "Ya... later!" And then he directed his customer to the back where he was going to give her all that he had in back. She was making sure it was chuck and he said yes. And all I wanted was my one pound of ground beef. He literally reached in front of me to grab all four and would not have even acknowledged my attempt of purchasing my one pound if I had not spoken up. He was rude. Maybe he was trying to make a big sale, but I have spent hundreds a month in that store. NO MORE. With Dollar General and Save Mart on Elm and Marvel in Georgetown I am good. Bye Holiday. I've lived here for years and this store is 2 minutes away from my house and honestly whenever I've forgotten an ingredient in the middle of cooking, it's a lifesaver. Also.... For the multiple people I've overheard complaining about prices in the checkout line to the cashiers... shut up. The employees and managers do not dictate prices. Super disappointed in our local market, as they do NOT require their employees to wear masks. This includes the deli workers making your food! Yikes!!! Holiday Market management has made the poor decision to put its customers and our community at risk by not requiring its employees to wear masks. Had an extremely crappy experience here. The service is awful, seems like all the old ladies that work here hate their jobs. My husband and I wanted to grab some sandwiches on our way to University Fall's and decided to stop here. We walked up to the deli and after standing there for a good 5 minutes and older woman came over, threw the sandwich order pads at us and said "let me go find a pen". Another 5 minutes go by and she hands us pens and chats with another employee. I wrote down my order then went to use the restroom. I came back grabbed my sandwiches, still no conversation, then headed to the register. The cashier was having a personal conversation with the woman ahead of us and she was taking her sweet time ringing her up and bagging her groceries. Another 5 minutes go by and it's finally our time to pay. The checker was pretty bland, didn't say much and really didn't seem happy to be at work at all. We paid and vowed to never go back. The icing on the cake, when I was eating my sandwich about an hour later, I found a freaking hair in it!!!!!!!!!! Ew!!!!!! Never, ever going back! read more

If you live in the area and don't want to drive to Auburn or Placerville and want meat that is much better and fresher than Mar Val in Georgetown, Holiday Market is convenient. Holiday as far as groceries go can be on the slightly pricier side. But you are also saving money on gas from not having to go into town. They have all of the essentials as far as groceries go and they just recently added liquor to the place. They have a Boar's Head deli. which is pretty good and your purchase of a sandwich comes with a $0.10 drink. In my opinion, the deli is pretty good and the deli staff usually are pretty good about getting the sandwiches out to you. The store closes around 9:30. So if you are out late at night then their big fridge by the deli has quite the selection of quick food. The staff is hit and miss, some of the employees are really nice while some look like they hate their job. read more

It's slightly amusing to read the review of someone who doesn't shop at this store regularly. Being a smaller market definitely has its limitations, especially price-wise (somewhere between moderate and pricey). Our only other option is to drive 20 minutes (6 miles) through the canyon to Auburn, where prices are much better and a much better selection of whatever it is you want. At least they have Peet's coffee! What's really great about it is their deli. They carry Boar's Head products and make wonderful hot and cold sandwiches and offer a wide variety of prepared salads. Their panini sandwiches are fabulous! And their hot case has pretty good food too, if you want something quick. In the wine isle, one of the things they could do better is feature and promote wines from our local wineries. I have to search for them and the selection is a pittance of what is available. If they want us to shop locally at their store, they need to do what they can to promote the local economy as well. The staff is generally very friendly and very helpful. For some reason, they are in the process of rearranging the entire store. The jury is still out on the benefit of this. Not sure where all my favorites from the organic isle went, but I'll find them. read more

Pros: Very clean, friendly staff, outstanding wine and craft beer selection. Cons: Overall higher prices and a more limited grocery selection then most supermarkets found in Auburn (or even Marval in G-Town). This is especially true for the meat and produce departments. I find myself, like many other Divide residents, taking the 15 minute drive to Auburn when there is a need to stock up, thus saving a lot of money. One other note: I left similar comments on a survey that Holiday sent to me and without advisement or my permission, I started receiving phone calls from store employees asking about my feedback. Apparently they used info from my Rewards Card to gain my home phone number. They should really ask the person completing their survey if they wanted to be contacted personally via their home phone-bad policy. read more

I have shopped at the Holiday three times since my first review. The first time the music was louder than before and the speakers were tinnier. I came back a couple of days later and the music was more subdued and very tolerable. On that day, I spoke to one of the employees about my complaint and that person told me they had the same complaints about the loudness and selection of the music and thanked me for trying to do something about it. So, yesterday I went in around noon and the music was back to it's loud, tinny, obnoxious level. I guess there are some employees who like it this way and have the overall say in keeping it loud for their personal entertainment. Most of the people who work there are very courteous and helpful, so I gave the store two-stars for customer service. read more

This is my neighborhood store for 5 years now. They have a great selection of healthy foods and most are not too expensive. My son had to start eaten gluten free food and they were more than happy to bring in a couple of products I requested so I didn't have to go down the hill. It didn't even take them very long either! The cashiers are always very friendly and fast. I couldn't ask for a better small local store. Thanks for being there to serve your customers. read more

Never excited to walk into this market. I moved to garden valley about a year ago and this is the last place to grab things on the way home. I try my best not to ever forget anything in auburn because i find the team members are mostly rude. Im a cute, small, lip piercings, 5 foot 2, 25 yr old girl that looks around 19. I get dirty looks and no hellos or have a nice day at check out. Im not some punk teenager, i make and spend money like everyone else. Also they are way over priced on most things, only buy things on sale if you must shop there. I find it also annoying that they only carry beer and wine. My sister moved to Cool, CA not too long ago. It's a very small community ca. 4,000 population not far from Auburn, CA. I managed to miss Holiday market, thinking it was one of those stores that specializes in holiday stuff. But the next day I realized it was a supermarket, and upon visiting found it was in fact a very nice supermarket. They have plenty of organic and very nice but expensive produce, though occasionally there are some pretty good deals mixed in too. They are the best place in town for a cup of coffee (not that there's much competition) serving Peet's. They have a deli and rotisserie chickens and BBQ items as well as limited (but surprisingly large for such a small community) selection of specialty prepared items like Sushi, and basic prepared lunch items. The beer and wine selection is excellent, better than most markets in the San Francisco Bay Area. The people seem to have that small town charm, but I think everybody here has that. I was in line yesterday, and I think I was the only customer the lady at the register didn't know by name. If I lived in Cool, I'd be by every morning for coffee. When I first moved to Cool I had a bad experience here. I had forgotten my Rewards Card and had $100 worth of groceries in my cart. When I went through the line the girl refused to give me the discounts. I was shocked so I paid anyways, then went out to my car and found the card in my cup holder. I went back in and she said there was no way I could get the discount back. Thankfully a manager was close by and heard what was going on. He said "no problem" and quickly gave me the $15 I would have saved on my bill. I was very angry with the girl for a little while, and didnt want to shop at the Holiday anymore. BUT that was a couple years ago, and since then I have had good experiences there. They have a great selection for being a little isolated, and the prices are only a little more expensive than bigger chains in Auburn & Placerville. Some small chain grocery stores in small towns are WAY overpriced and have a lot of expired goods, but not the Holiday. The produce is usually very fresh as well as the meat and dairy. Sometimes you can score a great deal on meat. If you go in at rush hour (after work 5-7pm) expect to wait in some long slow lines. read more
