First half was her lathering lotion on my body. No massage whatsoever. After 20 minutes or so in I lifted my head up and requested a new person. Totally ignored my request & then began massaging me. Came here with my friend for a 60 minute foot massage. The guy barely massaged me, just causally rubbed his hands on my feet. He didn't even use enough lotion, so it hurt my skin. Waste of my money. And if you don't tip them, you get nasty glares. The best part is when the guy massaging my friend stepped on her glasses, which he had asked her to take off. Not sure I'd come back here, also not sure if massage is the right fit for my body and recovery needs. I knew of this place because a few years ago my Mom would stop in on Saturdays and see William, she liked him the best. I went in on Tuesday hoping to get a 15 minute chair massage, she said they didn't have openings so I scheduled an appointment. The receptionist was helpful and easy to communicate with. After I decided to schedule an appointment for Wednesday she said, "do you want to try something else?" I said no, still the 15 minute one (I'm not made of money, I also never do this so who knows if I will even like it). Got a confirmation call the next day for my 4pm appointment, very difficult to understand the voicemail, thick accent but I called back to confirm. When I went in for my appointment, I was a few minutes early and had to pay ahead of time, which felt super awkward. Also for some reason I thought it was $15 for 15 minutes, I had $17 in cash so had to use a card and deal with the $2 charge on top of the $20 price. I was planning to tip in cash. Again pre-paying was awkward af and I hoped the woman wasn't my masseuse for fear my lack of tip (yet) would reflect my service I received. The chair was clean and I got one of those covers put on before I shoved my face into the rest. I don't remember if I had told the receptionist on Tuesday about my neck pain but the masseuse found it right away and spent a good deal of time working on it. Overall, the massage was painful and I had to spend a lot of time really focusing on breathing and relaxing. Although it was uncomfortable, I knew it would help my tight muscles. I also knew with my sensitive skin I might have some bruising when I walked out (I looked in the evening and no bruising). I introduced myself to the masseuse after, even though I repeated his name, I can't remember it. I generally hate the practice of tipping and wish it would be worked into the cost of services, nevertheless, I tipped him $3. I agree with other reviews that they stand around expecting it after. My favorites are Tia, amazing thorough, firm and very intuitive; Mary, thoughtful, thorough and makes sure you're comfortable; Sofia, gentle, kind, talented; Greg, extremely firm, attentive, and thorough. Awful experience...I just threw $100.00 away. I took my friend for some, what I thought would be pampering. But neither of us enjoyed it. Not only was the massage not relaxing, the guy doing mine kept burping! It was ruined from the very beginning. I finally said "do you need water"? He thought I wanted water, I said "no, do you need water" and I put my hand on my lower neck to attempt to signal what I was saying. The lady that was giving my friend a massage seemed to understand and said something to him. He stopped for a while, but then had more. After it was over, my friend needed to use the restroom and I went out front to wait for her. When she came out she said the lady at the desk very rudely said "YOU", pointed her finger at her and said "you need to tip on the higher amount". WTH? Tipping is an option based on the service and she wasn't happy with her massage either. Generally, we are generous tippers, but none was earned. I went to Holiday Spa last month for a massage and loved it! It's right by my house, and super affordable. When I was leaving, i was given a brochure with the different pricing and menu items and saw the couples massge. It was 80$ for 60 minutes, and 120$ for 90! I thought: I'm going to bring my boyfriend here, who never gets massages, because this place is so great! So the story begins... I came in today to do a 90 minute, 120$, couples massage to start off the weekend right with my boyfriend of 6 years. We had an appointment at 3:00pm, and waited until 3:20 while they got our room prepared. That was really no problem. I asked to use the restroom and the smell of food was overwhelming. This wasn't the case in the massage room, thank god. Our massages started, and while i'm use to the masseuse asking a pressure preference, there was nothing of the sort. Again, i'll let it go. The point when I began to be bothered was when the two women massaging us couldn't stop talking! I was amazed! They have signs when you walk in about turning off your cell phones and being courteous, yet we couldn't relax cause we were listening to who-knows-what. lol All in all, the actual massages were mediocre. I'd say worth the money you pay, but when I was told I was done, and looked up at the clock to see 4:20, i was irritated. We received an hour, and that's if you include all of the times the left the room, but whos counting? lol We were asked to pay beforehand--that was a red flag--and we did. So when we were gathering our things to leave, we had discussed that because we had paid for 90 minutes and received 60, we wouldn't say a word, but that would be there tip money. 40$ isn't bad if you ask me! As we leave the spa, a women comes running after us. She was one of our masseuses. Her statement was " NO TIP!?" After we walked back, mainly because my boyfriend was humiliated that someone would scream that in a shopping center, I tried to explain to the front desk women who had scheduled my massage, that we received 60 minutes and paid for 90. She, apparently, can change time because she stated it was an hour! Even though here I am typing this at 5:10pm when I should just be walking in the door. My boyfriend felt like she was desperate at this point, and handed them another 20$. I couldn't believe it. Definitely the most awkward and embarrassing massage moment of my life. Although I'd like to say that because it is 5 minutes from my house that I'd be back--that's not the case. If you are looking for an affordable massage place, I would seriously consider going to a more standard place such as massage envy, they are much more affordable, and because of their franchise rules, you won't have to worry about silly shenanigans. I'm sad to say that I LOVE yelp, and usually praise businesses, and now I have to give out a one-star. Been going here for years and will continue to do so as long as possible! Yes, it is not a ritzy day spa, but if keeps the prices low that doesn't bother me at all. It is simply decorated, low budget, and practical for the sake of just getting a massage. The prices are amazing and cheaper than a lot of places out there. As for any of the negative comments here, I think it's also a matter of needing to plan ahead. Call in advance (even an hour before is fine), bring enough cash and small bills to tip and research the best therapists. Also, give it time to figure out which therapist is right for you! After years of going my boyfriend and I have narrowed it down to the following therapists: Female: -May: friendly, great, consistent massage, understands english more often than not -Jean: somewhat quiet, great pressure, thorough massage, limited english -Jennifer: friendly, great, consistent massage, understands english more often than not, you might have to remind her to use more pressure Male: -Lucky: friendly, appreciative, overall great massage, meticulous when it comes to adjusting the blanket for privacy, limited english -Greg: limited english, really enthusiastic therapist who really involves himself in the massage (as in with breathing, using extreme pressure). Basically, these are for the open/comfortable people who need (and are not afraid of) an intense massage. I have never been asked to tip ahead of time, but I do pay first. I go for both foot massage and full body. For the full body, they don't really do much with the feet so you can always do a foot/body combo. After a massage they wipe you down with hot wet towels and give a great scalp massage. I don't really have anything negative to say about the place other than some of the other cliental I've been around. They can just be a bit noisy and snore really loud. :P If you're in the private rooms you don't notice that at all. WOOOOOOOOWWWW. Okay, so in January of 2010, I travelled to Thailand, where there wasn't a day that went by where I wouldn't get a foot massage. I used to pay like 30 baht ($6 US) for a 60 minutes massage. Ever since leaving Thailand, I haven't found anything like Thailand's massage in quality or in price. However, I have found that place and thats Holiday Spa! no joke or over exaggeration. This place offers some quality massages, although its no where near $6 for an hour, its got to be the most affordable about there so far. At $25 for a full 70 minutes, you can't beat that. I haven't tried their full body yet, but I bought my mother and aunt a session and they loved it. My aunt was literally crying in appreciation and how great the session was. 5-star from me! if there is anything I would say was a downer, it would be that they don't accept credit cards, well maybe they do but she requested I pay cash only for my $120 reservation for my mom and aunt. I guess they get charged a high amount by their credit card machine company. I don't mind the conversations of other people as long as its not too loud. I've gone to Holiday Spa since they opened their doors... Things have changed! Not only have my last couple foot massages been poor and short, I believe that one worker (Greg) intentionally inflicted pain on me. I have never had someone put all five fingers between my toes and quickly remove them ... which was very painful! He did this several times to me ... When I tipped him 20% he threw the tip on the floor and told me, in his broken English, he prefers 50+% tips!!! I don't believe everyone there is as rude as him. When they 1st opened their doors Kevin was great.. He explained the trigger points in my feet, he was thoughtful and kept working trouble areas instead of finding them only to rub the area 2 - 4 times and then move on, doing nothing to the knot! Kevin moved on several years ago. Nobody seems to know what they are doing there anymore. I have tried to give them several tries to improve but it seams to be worse so I am done with giving them my business. My second to last massage was laughable .. This is true even though it sounds unbelievable .. The masseuse fell asleep while rubbing my foot! I opened my eyes to see him lightly rubbing the bottom of my foot in the same pattern for several minutes.. when he woke in a startled manor he laughed and kept going... friendly but not a good massage... There is another spa across the street that will get my next try at reflexology. I cashed in my pre paid gift cards and will go elsewhere from now on. My last massage the woman refused to do the 15 minute back massage claiming (untruthfully) that she spent 65 minutes on my feet... What a load of crap! Lies and arguing with a client for 20 minutes until the manager finally told her to complete the massage, which she did lightly and without results for my tension... Came for a first time massage a few days ago. Have had plenty in the past but first time here. I just had a baby 1 week ago so my body was feeling sore and that it needed some extra tlc. The woman on the phone was nice said they had availability right away so I drove over. she said on the phone "I can see you in 10 minutes" when I arrived she greeted me and recognized our phone convo. She walked me back through this creepy hallway to my massage room and left. Then, to my surprise, a elderly Chinese man emerged to perform my massage. I just decided to roll with it but a little shocked it's not the friendly young gal who I thought was going to perform my massage. I tried to let him know up front that I had just had a baby and that I was sore. And what area my pain was in. He just said "yeah okay" then i mentioned something else to prompt a response, he responded "yeah okay" which led me to believe his English was not very good. He was very rough through the entire massage. Painful in fact. I expressed that he was hurting me and he responded with "oh my god" twice like I was a wimp o r something. He also burped a couple of times while massaging me. Gross. I reached out my arms c to writhe in pain and itc seemed like the was loose plywood or something underneath my massage table. Also, i have some bruising from the massage. And my pain feels WORSE than when I came in. Don't bother with this place. Horrific experience and wouldn't wish my experience on anyone. My husband and I spotted Holiday Spa as we came out of Safeway on an early Sunday afternoon. Looking for a basic no-frills place for massage, we eagerly entered the business. The front office is small and has no seating. There was a foot reflexology chart on the wall and a small reception desk by the doorway. To the left was a nice, bright, comfortable room with cushy chairs where Foot Reflexology is performed for those interested customers. Straight across was a nice door, leading to massage rooms. Upon entering, you comforted by a wash of dark reddish color on the carpeted floors and painted walls. Soothing spa music of pan flute, acoustic guitar, and piano fill the space. There are about eight private rooms which really are not too private considering they are more like cubicle rooms with wood walls, but an open ceiling. I was ushered into a room, my husband in the room next door. The rooms are no-frills, with maybe a slight decoration on the wall. The door to the room has a tiny rectangular window, which I would have preferred not there, but it wasn't a big deal. The massage table and leg pillow were there, but instead of being made-up with a warm, fuzzy blanket and sheet, only the sheet was there. The tables are not heated. My massage therapist was soft spoken and gave me one of the best Swedish massages I've ever had. She would check to make sure if I needed more or less pressure. Before she had me turn over, she stepped out of the room to bring in some hot towels to clean the oil off of my back, arms, and legs. ahhhh so soothing! Afterwards she had me flip over to finish my shoulders, head and feet. A small cup of water greeted me at the end after dressing. I will definitely be back. Great prices! Ive been starring at the screen for thirty five minutes trying to figure out how to give this place no stars. These people have absolutely no idea how to give a simple massage. I was really disappointed. I sat in the room for an hour just waiting for this terrible massage to come to an end. I'm being unbelievably honest when I say my favorite part about the whole experience is when it was over. I just paid $50 for a professional rug burn. My entire body hurts more the next day from when I actually went in there for some relief. She just kept pulling on my skin and twisting it I was so confused. Can someone please explain to me what the creepy holes are in the doors that anyone can just look through if they wanted to? why does every massage room in the place have a see through hole in the door? I have been coming here regularly for at least the past 5 years. I started coming here for the 90 minute foot massages in the beginning. Now I try to come by every other month. I will get a 60 or 90 minute massage. I have this place on speed dial. If I feel the need I pick up the phone and book an appointment. I have never had trouble getting an appointment or had to wait. What's awesome is that they close at 10 PM! Like today, I feel like I need a little extra. I booked a 30 minute foot massage followed by a 90 minute full body massage that I am getting while I write this. Most of my friends know that I love this place. I have referred at least 20 or more people that now come regularly too. The 60 minute massage is only $40 and well worth it. I have no problem paying $60 for 90 minutes because I know that I will love it. To me it is always worth the drive from Alameda. Thanks Holiday for being in my life! read more

I went to this place last night. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. When my boyfriend and I got there, they tried to make us pay AND TIP immediately. I'm sorry, but who the hell tips before something? Aren't you suppose to tip after someone did a good job or you felt that they really deserved it? I said something about it to them, and they said we could pay after. I didn't even want the massage after that.. super weird. I felt like my lady was trying to kill me. The whole thing was painful and uncomfortable. My back is KILLING me this morning. I really should of said something, but I really haven't had too many massages before, so I wasn't sure if it was totally normal or not. Also, I felt like they already hated me because I asked why the hell we had to tip them before they even did anything. Whatever, the point is, IT WAS AWFUL. Also, the ladies wouldn't shut the hell up and someone at one point even opened the door to the room and started taking to them. Who does that? When it was over (thank goodness), the two ladies stood their while we paid the woman at the counter as if they were making sure they got a good enough tip. It was super awkward and weird. As soon as we tipped, they walked away. It is really ridiculous how much they are concerned with a tip. This place is great! Clean, friendly, quiet, and they know what they are doing. I was very impressed with the quality for the price. Definitely a hidden Castro Valley gem. I went in today, past due with my first child (been in false labor for over a week) and hoping to kick start real labor. Just came back from a 80 minute massage, 55 minutes dedicated to feet, 25 to back. Well, here's the layout: When you walk in, on the right is the reception desk. To the left is the foot reflexology room and right in front is the door leading to the massage rooms. The receptionist was very nice and friendly. She did ask me to lower my voice because other people were trying to relax, but in my mind I was asking myself why they didn't have a door leading to the foot reflexology room instead a couple of sheets. I had a reservation for 3:30pm and I didn't get taken for another 15 minutes or so. First was the foot massage, leading with a soothing foot bath in tea (which I was told cleanses the feet and helps take away any yucky smells). Then after a couple minutes your masseuse comes back to wipe your feet clean and start with the treatment. Depending on who you get, pressure and style vary. For the this particular visit I got a man. I don't remember him telling me his name but man oh man, was he strong. Strong enough to make me go "OWW". But it really was relaxing for the most part. Keep in mind I am only talking about the foot part. After 55 minutes of feet, he took me back into one of the rooms and told me to lay face-down on the table. Only being a 25 minute massage I did not expect to be taken back into a room and be laid on a table. I was expecting more of a chair massage. Anyway, here it begins. I was scared for my life. I honestly felt like my back was going to break. The guy that did my massage obviously doesn't know his own strength or know how much pressure to apply to different body types. This was a super deep tissue massage. He pressed so hard on my back and neck that I could barely breathe. I asked him to go softer but the damage was done. I have never once hoped a massage would be over sooner rather than later. *Sigh* After that I got up, tipped and left. I feel like I need to get another massage to correct this massage, or maybe even a chiro appointment. I was only going to give this place 2 stars, but the people here are so nice and friendly that that alone deserved another star. I probably won't be coming back, and if I do, it would only be for the cheaper, 70 minute massage and request one of the littler ladies. read more

This place is fabulous. When my sister in law asked me to get a foot reflex and massage with her for little money I figured ok but didnt think itd be too great. I was wrong. Although the location is in a busy shopping lot and the outside sign isnt very impressive, the inside was clean and nicely decorated. We came in for a 30 minute foot reflexology and massage. I thought this would mean they would just do a neck and arm massage while you sat there but was happily wrong. After the foot massage we were taken into the back rooms to massage tables/rooms where I got a full body massage. Not just neck and head (which was awesome because my legs were super sore). I do NOT recommend this place. I went in and specifically told the lady at the front that I did NOT want a deep tissue massage. I wanted a very relaxing massage without too much pressure. I paid upfront $40 for an hour. The masseuse was an older Asian man. I told him also not too much pressure, just more relaxation. He massaged my back for about 45 minutes, I finally had to ask him to massage another body part. I told him several times that he was hurting me and he would just say ok and continue. He asked me to flip over onto my back and said he'd be back. He comes back and I suddenly feel a hot ass towel just thrown on my face. I jumped I was so shocked. He didn't even warn me or put it there slowly. I still tipped him $15 because I know they don't make much and those places work them like hell. I woke up the next day in so much pain. Let me start off by saying I gave 3 stars because the massage was a full 60 minutes if not a few more, she actually did workout some tension in my back and she used hot towels to get the lotion off. Yesterday I treated my fiance and myself to an hour long couples massage. It was $40 per person. If you choose to pay credit, it is a few dollars more, but at least there is the option now. We had two Chinese ladies give us our massages. Experience was pleasant, but as a few other reviewers have mentioned, they did talk to each other in Cantonese a few times. We understood them, but chose to speak in English hoping that we'd have an opportunity to catch them off guard by responding to their chit chat in Cantonese, but no such luck - just random small talk. The massage was just fine, a bit on the firm side. Now a day later, I am actually somewhat sore in the areas she pressed hard. Now I wish I had asked her to lighten up in those areas! The hot towel service at the end of the massage was great. Very relaxing, and helped get off most of the massage oil. For $40, I would probably go back and try it again, giving a little more direction to my masseuse next time. I use to enjoy this place for foot reflexology and I still kinda of do. Recently I came here and the foot massage was not bad how ever the back massage was tough, rough, and painful. i went there on my birthday. It was a very queit & relaxing environment. i explained exactly what i wanted & told the receptionist which areas i needed to work on & what i had a problem with on my body. she was very polite & courteous. the customer service was great. the only bad thing i had to say is that i wasnt taken on time for my appt, my massage didnt start until 20mins after my scheduled appt time. so if your going & your on a time crunch maybe you should let them know so you can be taken on time. I had a gentleman masseur his name was Greg & he was amazing. Just by touching my back he was able to tell what was instantly wrong with me. he took his time with my most troubled areas, his hands & technique were very very strong & it was painful... but it the end it was what i really needed. my muscles werent in a tight ball anymore which is a total miracle they've been like that for years. Im very happy with the whole experience. the prices were really good $40 for one hour full body massage. One thing to know before go is that, the rooms do NOT have ceilings, so you can hear the other massages going on. if you don't want any distractions or to hear anyone else this may not be the place for you. or bring ear plugs or your ipod with relaxing music, because you hear the same music looped over & over. I most definitely will be back it was totally worth it & i was glad that i found this place on yelp. One good thing is that you can make an appointment right before you wanna come in or you can just walk in if they have any time available. i highly recommend this Spa. This place is awesome ! I don't remember who my masseuse was but she was nothing less but great . A day after New Year day , I had a spa date with my mom and Aunts . We got the 1 hour foot soak and 1 hour body message with hot rocks . I just recently lost a ton of weight , so my muscles are so knotted up . I stumbled onto the spa by accident when I went shopping at Safeway next door. The massage was fabulous. Since then I have been back about 10 times. I am recovering from a spinal fusion and the pain relief from the massages have been better than physical therapy or Oxycontin. The massages are deep tissue and relaxing. I highly recommend Simon and Tom, although I have heard all the therapists are talented. The price is unbelievably inexpensive. I like the $35 foot and back massage for 80 minutes. It is hard to beat. I give $20 for a tip because they work very hard. The lack of English has occasionally been a problem, but they have a receptionist who cheerfully translates. this place was recommended by a friend, who has been here a few times. My GF called earlier today to make a reservation for us and we were there in an hour. The lady who did my massage was very rough. To be honest, I wouldnt even call it a massage. She worked on my legs and feet first. There was a point where I'm certain i'd kick her because I kept saying ouch and pulling my leg back yet she kept putting more pressure and saying "Pain?" and I kept replying with "Yes" but she wasnt listening. I swear my foot was gonna reflex to her in a bad way. I was then asked to go to the room where she would do an upper body massage. Things go worse from there. 98% of the time, she used only her elbows. It was not relaxing at all! Again, I kept saying ouch and told her to go lighter but she didnt. There was a time during this part of the massage where I just so uncomfortable and disgruntled, I was ready to just tell her to stop and to end the massage, it was that bad! My eyes were open most of the time and I was more so in discomfort rather than feeling relaxed. A massage is supposed to be rejuvinating, relaxing..to make you feel refreshed. Thats how my GF felt after her massage yet I was the total opposite! Grumpy, sore, uncomfortable and unhappy! Im still feeling the affects from it 7hrs later Will never go to any of these asian massage places again! Holiday Spa is more like HELLday Spa! Another YELP review described their massage perfectly to match my experience "The 1 hour massage was basically another vigorous lotioning, with the addition of Indian burns and sharp elbows.. After coming here almost weekly, for years, I'm sad to say that I will no longer offer Holiday Spa my business. My last three visits were all with masseuses that seemed to have no knowledge of how to give an Asian massage. I'm not shy about asking someone for more pressure or to focus on one area - you can't be in these types of places, but no matter how many times I asked, nothing changed. The last masseuse kept moving her fingers in a three inch line, up and down, never deviating from that same spot. After asking a fourth time for her to move to something else, she pressed hard into the arch of my foot, trying to apply enough pressure to provoke pain. What the hell?!? I get sports massages on the regular, so I'm not hesitant with a firm hand, but this was also not a response I was expecting. So I left and immediately asked for a refund. I'm only giving this place 2 stars, for the 3 years of great service and awesome massages. It's unfortunate that their staff has changed so much recently that their services are of a much lesser quality. read more

The 2 girls that I highly recommend are Joanne or Sulifa. Both are tops in this field. The place is a bare bones as it gets as far as decor or furnishings. But the prices are low enough that with the massage 40.00 and a 20.00 tip totals 60.00 is a bargain especially considering that you are getting a very experienced professional that can get knots outta your back. I had the displeasure of getting a shitty massage in Milpitas that did absolutely nothing for me for the same rate. It's located in a good sized shopping center that shares Safeway, and Peets Coffee among other shops including the Payless shoe shop next door and liquor store on the right. If you are looking for that 5 star spa this ain't it. It is however an excellent therapeutic massage place without the 5 star price tag. read more

So far the best massage place in Castro valley. Ive been to about 4-5 places and this by far is the best. I always ask for William. He knows what he's doing and gets the job done. He knows where all my knots are. It's a feeling that hurts but feels so good. This is my go to for a massage. read more
