This review is a long time coming. I have had 3 Holland's built for me; a 2001 Ti road bike with Campy 10 speed Record, a 2013 Jet Exogrid road bike with Dura Ace di2 and a 2021 Ti gravel bike with Grx components. All are perfect in every way and always a pleasure to ride. I can find flaws in everything, but these bikes are the exception. The service provided by Cody and Bill is world class. They have always been there for me whenever I've needed them. They have always gone above and beyond my expectations. I have referred two people who have had bikes built and they were both impressed and extremely happy they built a Holland. Great people who make great bikes. Bill Holland and the gang at Holland Cycles in Spring Valley is one of the best shops i have ever been to. It is not because they fill their shelf's full of parts that no one can afford or sit around talking about old war stories on the bike twenty years ago. It is because they truly want to help you get the best experience out of your or their bicycles possible. from making sure everything fits not just you but your bicycle as well before you leave the shop but that they are willing to take the extra time to make sure everything is perfect for each and every customer before they leave the shop. when you deal with Bill, Charles, Neal Or Cody you can be rest assured you are dealing with a professional in every sense of the word. all of these guys treat your bike as if it were their own going thorough every detail from tire to tire. I truly find i am reviving old world service in a state of the art environment. not to mention the one off hand made Exogrid, Isogrid and fulll Titanium bicycle frames that Bill Holland makes himself for each customer for every cycling sport know. The only measure thees frames could not be considered unique is the level of perfection Bill holds himself to on every build. The way in which each and every part Mr. Holland makes is by a measurement of perfection. it is truly remarkable that a single person is able to produce such an amazing work of art each and every time he sits down to weld up a frame. the one millimeter micro weld bead he lays down just to set the fit of the tubes would be considered impossible if you did not see him do it yourself. A truly great shop full of great guys all with the same goal in mind, and that is to make your cycling experience as enjoyable and as safe as possible. Bill Holland Cycles is, without question, the best bike shop ever. My situation: I ride for fun as well as for daily transportation to/from work. My bike requires minimal maintenance, but I always do a full annual overhaul. I had been using a mechanic at another popular bike shop in town for a couple years. He was great in the beginning, but his work began to slip, so on a friend's recommendation, I took my bike to Charles and Cody at Bill's shop. The work: I had recently taken my bike to the aforementioned shop for a full workover. The work was crap, so I brough it to Charles for a try. Charles found worn cables, and other maintenance needs the other guy totally ignored. He fixed them, and as part fo his normal overhaul, returned my bike to me in gleaming, like-new fashion. It shifted with utter precision, the brakes were back to like-new performance, the wheels were so good that at Tour of Palm Springs, I was coasting past people who were pedaling, and most importantly, it was utterly silent in every gear... The outcome: The outcome is that if you care about your bike, and appreciate the value in having things done right the first time, this MUST be the place you bring your bike for maintenance, upgrades, or even just quick tune-ups. The extras: The best part about this shop is that it's not a pressure-cooker, cookie-cutter grocery store of a bike shop. I recently picked up my custom Holland Exogrid "Dream Bike". Every part of the Holland experience was first rate and first class! Bill, Cody, and Charles, were always friendly and respectful. For a group of bike guys with their knowledge and experience it is really amazing that I never felt intimidated when picking parts and accessories for my bike. The interior of the shop is so clean and comfortable it could pass for a "boutique" shop on Rodeo drive. No clutter or extra stuff. Just top of the line necessities. As for "the bike" I am in love! What an excellent riding machine. The look is understated but high tech stunning. The fit is the most comfortable I have had on ANY bike. All the parts and systems are amazing. From the super clean shifting of the Di2 with the internal battery and cables to the perfect seat and handlebar set up. I have not had time yet to truly appreciate this bike, I know. The greatest thing is that I can't wait to realize it's (and my) potential for comfortable and fun riding. I would not hesitate in recommending Holland Cycles to any cyclist looking for a great bicycle as well as a fantastic experience in the process of purchasing a custom bike. read more

I have been riding fairly seriously for about 40 years (mainly self-contained touring), and have know Bill for about that long. He helped me set up a bike for a tour to Alaska in 1983. At 77 years of age, I've slowed down a bit, and was thinking I might have to give up cycling, or switch to a recumbent, because of arthritis in my neck and lower back. I set up a couple of my bikes (Co-Motion and Klein) with MTB bars with a shorter reach stem with a higher rise, and thumb shifters, and this helped significantly; but the fit still wasn't zeroed in. This is when I bit the bullet and went to Bill. He spend several hours with me, taking measurements, fitting me to my existing bikes, and plugging the numbers into his magic CAD program. The result was a beautiful Exo-Grid bike with Richey couplings that rides like a dream, and is a stunning work of art. The craftsmanship and attention to detail have to be seen to be appreciated. I picked it up in May, and a week later was riding in the Pyrenees and Rhone Alps (including Mt. Ventoux and Alpe d'Huez) in France, where it was the subject of many admiring glances and comments. Charles built a bombproof set of wheels, and Cody was a big help in the final fitting. I couldn't be happier, and recommend, without reservation, Bill and his crew for ANY of your bike needs, not just frame building. read more

The Holland bikes and crew at the shop set the bar for which all should strive to achieve. I am and owner of an Exogrid and there is huge difference between a bike that is assembled out of a box and one that is built by professionals. I have had the bike for a year and a half and the only thing I have had to do is oil the chain, wash the bike and enjoy riding this beautiful bike all over California. As far as service goes, you may as well pretend that you are on the Pro Tour because nothing less than perfect is acceptable. They are honest, extremely thorough, and they do it once because they get it right the first time. I've been going to Bill Holland's shop consistently for the past 10 months and every experience has been fantastic (I've worked with 10-15 shops in San Diego, northern California, NY, and many different mechanics through racing). The staff is small (2-3 guys) so you always know who you're working with, and they know you and your equipment. I go here for parts, to have wheels rebuilt or spokes replaced, and for work on the bike that is more than I can do. An added bonus is that anytime I'm there, I can talk with these guys about bikes, parts, and bike technology and get honest, well-thought out answers to all sorts of questions. Recently I brought in a frame and parts to have a bike built for fall & winter training. In my hurry, I forgot to mention a few creaks and issues that the frame had given me a year ago... Charles is so thorough in the way that he builds a bike that he found a mysterious crack in my seat clamp, got dirt out of areas that hadn't seen the light of day in years, and had the bike working beautifully for me in no time at all. Unbeknownst to me, the front derailleur I gave Charles had a stripped screw and he fixed the problem saving me the frustration of troubleshooting it and the money it would cost to replace it. Even better, when I took the bike out for training, there weren't any strange creaks or noises to be heard. It worked beautifully. So, why should you go to this bike shop? Whatever your need is, Bill and Charles will find a way to help. The work they do will exceed your expectations because they take time and offer a level of service and quality of work that I haven't experienced anywhere else. Thanks to Charles, Cody and Bill who all helped me diagnose a frame issue. The frame in question is a titanium, but from another builder. They took time to explain the problem, and asked for nothing in return. I am having the opposite experience with my frame manufacturer. Holland cycles even gave me an estimate to fix it if I can't get it done through my warranty. This is my definition of great customer service which will bring me back for my next bike. In addition to the knowledgeable and friendly service, the bikes they manufacture are are truly works of art. I found Holland Cycles at a NAHBS a few years ago. I was instantly sold on the quality of bike, but was hesitant about flying to San Diego for the fit. Since this is an investment, I decided to fly down. (I would highly recommend it) I was greeted at the airport by Charles and brought to the showroom where Cody took over. He got my background, type of rider etc, and then set me up on the trainer. After he got me fitted, we talked about components and wheels with Charles. After a full day, I had my dream bike set up and on its way to the build. While waiting for the completion, Cody and Charles kept me up to date via email and phone calls. After several months, I drove to pick it up and spent several more quality hours with them while I was shown how to put my bike together (I got a jet bike). I was able to go for a few rides in their area, and have since had questions which are handled without hesitation. These guys know their bikes, it is more than a hobby, but a passion. I returned to their new shop a few weeks ago and had the pleasure of meeting Bill who was more than willing to take time out of his day to chat with us. Highly highly recommended. read more
