This is the hot spot to which Rick Karl refers. It's due to duress according to Dr. Walters at Blue Cross Pet Hospital.

Do not board your babies at Hollywood Dog Training. Guillotine door meets beautiful tail in mid-June. Amputation. At one point Rick Karl, owner of Hollywood Dog Training, admitted they didn't realize Duke was injured and left him untreated and bleeding for what could have been hours. They also admitted they still haven't examined the doors. Despite being told that Duke was being monitored 24/7 during his recovery, I learned they were putting Duke in the SAME kennels. His staff circumvented the veterinarian, and wrapped Duke's tail themselves, possibly causing further injury and pain. Now Karl refuses to pay for aftercare. Duke's symptoms: "hot spots" due to duress, nightmares, separation anxiety, weight loss and more. Karl was harassing me by phone that afternoon/early evening calling me "unreasonable", and I had to threaten him with the police to get him to stop. If he cared for animals and their owners at all he would have made sure Duke was safe and certainly completely healthy regardless of the cost. (And not to mention this is after years of being a client, and thousands of dollars in boarding fees). It was Karl's negligence that caused the damage to Duke's tail and beyond.

Since we adopted Sally (a 5 year old boxer mix), we struggled with containing her intermittent high energy which was intimidating to our three children and guests. While Sally has a very sweet and eager to please demeanor, we lacked the tools to communicate with her in an effective manner. After a year of frustration, we decided to try the four week on-leash training. We are so glad we did! We visited Sally two weeks into her training and observed tremendous growth! Aside from the training skills she was beginning to master, her physical health was noticeably improved. She had trimmed down to a healthy weight and had regrown hair that had become thin and patchy on her backside (a condition that we had unsuccessfully attempted to treat medically). I participated in five 45 minute training sessions with Sally's wonderful trainers David and Rick. I learned how to communicate effectively with Sally. She was brought home for one final reintroduction training session and has since made a smooth transition. We are more in love with our Sally than ever before! I continue to work with her for at least 20 minutes daily. These sessions invoke confidence in us both and instill an even greater bond. I am thrilled beyond measure!

Words cannot describe how amazing my experience was with Rick! I brought my five month old, Old English Sheepdog Puppy for 1 month one-on-one training with Rick, it was one of the best investments I've ever made! Apollo (my Old English Sheepdog) is going to be a big dog (approx 100+ pounds) so It was important to me to invest in professional dog training so I can have: 1) an excellent relationship with my dog, 2) the knowledge of how to handle my dog, and 3) a dog that everyone feels happy and comfortable to be around. Rick has a beautiful dog training facility located in a gorgeous ranch setting. It was basically 1 full month of country setting paradise for Apollo. Rick's 1 month of dog training was an excellent way for Apollo to socialize with another puppy that was getting trained at the same time. It was always a pleasant surprise to get a photo update on Apollo's progress and how he was really enjoying his time with the other puppy. Rick also has a very calm, friendly, and gorgeous German Shepherd which was also a great opportunity for Apollo to boost his confidence around larger dogs. I got everything that I was hoping for and more! Going forward, I will definitely invest in professional dog training with Rick for all of my future puppies. I highly recommend Rick to anyone who is looking for proper, professional, proven dog training that works!

Greyson was reactive, and even the jingle of another dog's collar or hearing a bark would immediately set him off. Walks and outings were stressful because I was constantly worried about how he would react. From the very beginning, Emily was patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping both of us succeed. Greyson has completed private training sessions and a board and train with Emily and her team, and the progress has been incredible. One of the biggest improvements has been in his reactivity. Since working with Emily, he has become much more focused, calmer, and better able to work through situations that would have previously triggered a reaction. Not only has his reactivity improved, but his obedience, confidence, and overall behavior have as well. What I liked most was that Emily didn't just work with Greyson. She also took the time to explain things to us and show us how to continue the training at home. What I appreciated most was that Emily was honest about the process. She didn't promise overnight results or a quick fix. Instead, she gave us a clear plan, realistic expectations, and the tools we needed to continue helping Greyson succeed. She was always available to answer questions and support us throughout the process. It's clear that Emily and her team genuinely care about the dogs they work with and want both the dogs and their owners to be successful. As a dog owner, there is no better feeling than knowing your dog is in good hands, and I completely trust Emily and her team with Greyson. The amount of dedication, knowledge, and care they put into their work is amazing. We are beyond grateful for everything they have done for Greyson and our family. If you're looking for a trainer who truly cares, takes the time to understand your dog, and delivers real results, I highly recommend Emily's K9 Training. Working with Emily and her team has been one of the best investments we've made for Greyson, and we look forward to continuing our training journey with them.

The dogs came back traumatized and their behavior was worse. She was not able to improve any behaviors and the dogs were in kennels for most of the days and i received maybe two pictures. Even though they had wounds on them and I did not want to pay the entire amount she wouldn't give my dogs back to me until I paid nearly $10,000 It was insane. I was very sick at the time with a pressure sore, unable to travel and trying to get back home. She did not care. I used to live in the neighborhood as well. It was one of the worst experiences and my dogs are now markedly worse. I could leave negative stars. I would do not leave your dogs here. They're just in a kennel being neglected.

WARNING ABOUT BOOKING WITH CHARLIE…read more I don't typically post reviews but I felt that it was important to post this one. This interaction happened a couple months ago in April. We met in person at their place and everything looked great. We were really excited to have our cats with Charlie, so we gave them our deposit. They requested 50% up front, we respected their request and gave them $321.75 out of $643.50 for 11 days for 2 cats. A couple days later, I had received a panicked message from Charlie asking for $100 more on top of that due to an emergency they were having, stating that it was urgent. This was very concerning behavior. We know nothing about Charlie and asking us for more money seemed very suspicious. It makes no sense to ask your clients to help with personal, financial struggles, especially when we had just given them $321.75! We felt uneasy about this, so we asked for our money back and they refused to return it. Be careful. We were not expecting this kind of behavior and request from someone with a 5 star review on yelp. This is very concerning behavior and we were worried there may be more requests for more money once our cats were in their possession. We attempted to settle this in our messages, but unfortunately Charlie did not see their request and behavior as a problem, and refused to give us our money, leaving us with the only option to write this review. We still have not received our money and considering this a lesson learned. UPDATE: Note for Charlie's response, this is not at all what happened in our exchanges. I'm not sure if they are recalling a conversation with a different customer, but there was no mention of a request for donation at all. Since Charlie sees no issues with this behavior, it's fair that they stand behind it here. I've attached screenshots as proof of their error.

I am glad that I listened to the other Yelp reviewers as they were definitely on point. YELP came to the rescue when I was searching for a dog walker for the first time in my life. I was going to be away from my house for over 10 hours during a recent weekend and needed to have someone walk my Ethel in the evening. Enter Purrs & Grrrs. Because they are local, you don't have to worry about anyone getting stuck in traffic. They offer a free meet/greet and ask all the right questions. Even the registration form asked some very specific and needed questions. I was very impressed by the registration process and how easy everything was. Even paying them was easy as a client can pay by using the CASH app. Otherwise, checks/cash are accepted as well. I advised them of the different walking areas that I usually take Ethel and even areas to avoid (streets that sometimes has loose dogs from the neighbors). I also asked that if they crossed a particular busy street, that they carry Ethel as I don't trust the cars and their drivers. They totally understood all my concerns and took notes as well. After they walked Ethel, I would get a text with pictures and letting me know how everything went. Because of that, my mind was set at ease as Ethel was taken care of and enjoyed the walk (see the pictures) Don't look any further, you have found your dog walking service!! I promise you, you will not be disappointed. Without hesitation, I will use Purrs & Grrrs again.
