This is the hot spot to which Rick Karl refers. It's due to duress according to Dr. Walters at Blue Cross Pet Hospital.

Do not board your babies at Hollywood Dog Training. Guillotine door meets beautiful tail in mid-June. Amputation. At one point Rick Karl, owner of Hollywood Dog Training, admitted they didn't realize Duke was injured and left him untreated and bleeding for what could have been hours. They also admitted they still haven't examined the doors. Despite being told that Duke was being monitored 24/7 during his recovery, I learned they were putting Duke in the SAME kennels. His staff circumvented the veterinarian, and wrapped Duke's tail themselves, possibly causing further injury and pain. Now Karl refuses to pay for aftercare. Duke's symptoms: "hot spots" due to duress, nightmares, separation anxiety, weight loss and more. Karl was harassing me by phone that afternoon/early evening calling me "unreasonable", and I had to threaten him with the police to get him to stop. If he cared for animals and their owners at all he would have made sure Duke was safe and certainly completely healthy regardless of the cost. (And not to mention this is after years of being a client, and thousands of dollars in boarding fees). It was Karl's negligence that caused the damage to Duke's tail and beyond.

Since we adopted Sally (a 5 year old boxer mix), we struggled with containing her intermittent high energy which was intimidating to our three children and guests. While Sally has a very sweet and eager to please demeanor, we lacked the tools to communicate with her in an effective manner. After a year of frustration, we decided to try the four week on-leash training. We are so glad we did! We visited Sally two weeks into her training and observed tremendous growth! Aside from the training skills she was beginning to master, her physical health was noticeably improved. She had trimmed down to a healthy weight and had regrown hair that had become thin and patchy on her backside (a condition that we had unsuccessfully attempted to treat medically). I participated in five 45 minute training sessions with Sally's wonderful trainers David and Rick. I learned how to communicate effectively with Sally. She was brought home for one final reintroduction training session and has since made a smooth transition. We are more in love with our Sally than ever before! I continue to work with her for at least 20 minutes daily. These sessions invoke confidence in us both and instill an even greater bond. I am thrilled beyond measure!

When I got him back, his stomach and paws were covered in dried up urine and was clearly not acting like himself. Over the next two days, he had rectal bleeding that continued for two days, refused to eat for three days, and was severely dehydrated. I immediately contacted Ruff Resort to let them know what was happening with my dog, but I never received a response. I ended up taking him to the veterinarian, where he underwent multiple examinations. Between the exams and treatment, I spent over $700 trying to determine what was wrong. The vet did confirm he was severely dehydrated. A two day boarding ultimately cost me $1000. After not hearing back, I called the facility today to ask if they were open because I wanted to speak with someone in person. They told me they had tried to text me. They claimed the first message bounced back but that a second message went through. However, I never received any text on my phone. More importantly, if a customer contacts you to report that their dog became seriously ill after staying at your facility, the appropriate response is to pick up the phone and call them--not rely on text messages, especially if you already know one message failed to deliver. The lack of urgency, communication, and concern was incredibly disappointing. My dog's health and well-being should have been the priority, and instead I was left dealing with a very sick dog, expensive veterinary bills, and no meaningful response from the facility.

In…read more2023/2024 I found the dog resort extremely helpful as a day time dog sitter for 4-6 hrs at a time. My dog didn't seem to mind it and always came back calmer so I decided to leave him here for 9 days while I went away for a trip. I don't recall the exact costs. Probably between 900-1100 dollars for daily walks and his home provided food. I asked the employees to put on his sweater at night. It wasn't a question it was a very important task they agreed to. He was a very small 8 pound yorkie and was always cold. When I came back my dog was not his normal self. That already made me highly suspicious about getting his walks. He was coughing a lot, not sleeping but also lethargic. I took him to the vet and he had pneumonia. Meaning, he was cold from day 1 and got worse for the remainder of his stay and I never got a call from here. From there he got sicker and sicker and I had to put him down. I was devastated and desperate to get him back to normal for months! I recommend people never leave their dogs in places like this. Sure you save money and they may or may not have company (depending on their personality) but you're better off vetting a dog sitter to check in or stay with your dog at home. In the end you may save yourself an onslaught of vet bills from trying to figure what is making your dog so ill when back from a trip. At least with an in home dog sitter they're more like to stay alive and healthy. If you have a small dog with specific needs get someone who can cater to your dog with love and care. I highly suggest NEVER leaving your dog for overnight or extended stays. I hate that it took me so long to post this but my grief was too strong to do it before. I wanted to sue, I wanted my money back, but I was so sad and I couldn't bring myself to do much other than focus on him and move on with my life. I'll never get another dog after this experience.

I remembered from my previous experience with Charlie that they preferred being paid in cash so when they sent me the invoice I asked if paying in cash was okay and they said that was fine. They also had stated I would be getting a slight discount ($36 a night instead of the normal $40 a night). Then at 5 am the morning of drop off I get a long paragraph stating that there was a convenience fee being added on as I didn't prepay. As it was literally the day before I had to leave, I felt no choice but to pay as I didn't have many options. The convenience fee was basically the same difference the discount Charlie gave was (I think it made my new total 3 or 4 dollars less than the original $40 a night would have added up to be). Then when I paid Charlie in person they didn't have any change and said they would give me the difference upon pickup. They also had stated that pickup was after 7 pm and when I texted them that I was on my way at around 7 pm that would be would get there at 7:15 ish. I did not get response until I had pulled up that Charlie needed to get dressed and that I needed to wait. After leaving for my trip, I texted to check in two days in a row before I got a response. Charlie said that they had sent photos and videos but I had not received anything and that things were fine. As I was traveling and only able to be on WiFi, I just passed it off as an error on my end even though all our messages were I-message and should have had any issues with sending photos. Then the next day I get text from Charlie asking if I can come after three for pickup. The stay was booked for two more and I reminded them of that. It was stated in my first submission through their website's online form as well as the invoice they had sent me in the same message thread. I will commend Charlie on being super flexible when I told them with issues with my flights being delayed as well as customs issues. I made sure to tip more heavily as they did me a huge favor. However pickup happened without them being present even when I offered to come by later when they would be around. It was not until the next day (after some much needed sleep) that I noticed some wounds/scratches on my cat that I was never informed about. If Charlie would have reached out and let me know beforehand, I would have been understanding as I know my cat was not the only one in residence upon drop off. There is a scratch on my cat's nose, a bulky scab on the interior of one of my cat's ears, and what feels like more scratches on the back of her head and neck.

I am glad that I listened to the other Yelp reviewers as they were definitely on point. YELP came to the rescue when I was searching for a dog walker for the first time in my life. I was going to be away from my house for over 10 hours during a recent weekend and needed to have someone walk my Ethel in the evening. Enter Purrs & Grrrs. Because they are local, you don't have to worry about anyone getting stuck in traffic. They offer a free meet/greet and ask all the right questions. Even the registration form asked some very specific and needed questions. I was very impressed by the registration process and how easy everything was. Even paying them was easy as a client can pay by using the CASH app. Otherwise, checks/cash are accepted as well. I advised them of the different walking areas that I usually take Ethel and even areas to avoid (streets that sometimes has loose dogs from the neighbors). I also asked that if they crossed a particular busy street, that they carry Ethel as I don't trust the cars and their drivers. They totally understood all my concerns and took notes as well. After they walked Ethel, I would get a text with pictures and letting me know how everything went. Because of that, my mind was set at ease as Ethel was taken care of and enjoyed the walk (see the pictures) Don't look any further, you have found your dog walking service!! I promise you, you will not be disappointed. Without hesitation, I will use Purrs & Grrrs again.
