Tried Hollywood Heroes & Subs and ordered the "Love the Drake" Club Sub, loaded with turkey, bacon, and provolone. As someone who's eaten more sandwiches than I'd like to admit, this one instantly jumped near the top of my list. The turkey was sliced perfectly, the ingredients were fresh, and every bite delivered. If you're sleeping on Hollywood Heroes, you're missing out on one of Jacksonville's underrated sandwich spots. The only real question is why did it take me this long to try?

Stopped in for lunch with my sister on Saturday. Service was friendly and entertaining. Got to try The Bear and the Bada Bing. Both were SO GOOD. Cannot wait to return and try more things! Atmosphere is casual and parking is easy on the weekend. I can't say how it is during the week because it is in an office complex but the parking lot is large. You will probably think you're in the wrong place the first time you follow the map, but trust the process and get yourself a very tasty sammich!

You need your GPS to find this hidden gem, but it is well worth it! All the excellent reviews I've seen and read were spot on. The moment I walked into Hollywood Subs I was warmly greeted by the owner Kevin. His gratitude for each customer who came in and genuine pride in his food was palpable. There were many sandwiches on the menu that appealed to me. I decided on The "Love the Drake" Club Sub with turkey, bacon, and provolone with lettuce, mayo, & Italian dressing. Every single ingredient was fresh and delicious. The bread was soft with a nice crust and look at how thick that sandwich was! They are on DoorDash for the delivery lovers, but you have to go in-person at least one time to meet Kevin. And find out why the shop has a Hollywood theme!

Great sandwich shop. The villians theme gives the place interesting personality. They have a nice selection of hot sauces. My favorite is the Trinidad ones. The bada bing sub was full of meat and flavor. Definitely with the price. Easy to find once you park youe car.

The Towering Inferno (hot 6 inch sub)

This place has been on my "must-try" list since this past summer! After seeing fellow Jax Elite James D's glowing review here on Yelp and a new, fun and quirky Jax foodie share it on Hollywood Hero's Instagram page (@celsjax), I was sold. I literally hopped in the car and drove over. I'm actually really glad we came in for dinner instead of lunch. My boyfriend and I got to chat with Kevin (the owner), who's super conversational and friendly -- we both enjoyed that a lot. I was told lunch can get insanely busy, so going at dinner time was nice. It gave us a chance to get a little one-on-one menu rundown (which subs are the most popular, which ones are Kevin's personal faves, etc.). The shop is tucked slightly off the beaten path, but honestly? I kinda like it that way. It gives it that hidden-gem vibe. I ordered the Towering Inferno, which has "all the hot meats." As someone who loves medium-to-hot spice, this one hit that perfect middle ground -- flavorful with just enough kick without being overwhelming. Even if you enjoy more of a mild spice - you could handle this sub. I picked exactly the sub I thought I'd love... and boy, did I ever. Next time I'll go for the 12-inch instead of the 6 so I can save half for the next day. Prices here are super reasonable, especially for Jax. I grabbed jalapeño kettle chips and a soda from the fridge, while my better half went for a hot 6-inch "Leading Man" sub with Doritos and a Coke Zero. We both loved our subs so much we had to order a third one to split (I know, total BigBacks over here). We tried a cold sub this time -- the Bada Bing -- and it was just as delicious. All three subs were fantastic, but I'm definitely more of a hot sandwich girl, so the Towering Inferno still takes the crown for me. It has its own special sauce -- tangy with a little kick -- that really ties it all together. Can't recommend this place enough. Hidden gem status: confirmed. Kevin is amazing; he's expecting another girl with his lovely wife so please show him some extra love with their new baby on the way this month (November 2025)

Wow! I was a first time visitor and chose The Super Hero and I am happy I did. It was fresh and delicious and the bread was soft and perfect! Just the right amount of condiments and toppers. I may have even moaned saying "this is so good" a few times while inhaling it on my lunch break. Thank you, you have definitely earned your walk of fame star!

Service - fantastic Food - fabulous Ambience - clean, with cool movie posters. As soon as you enter, you're most likely gonna get a big hello from the owner, who clearly enjoys his work. The second thing you'll notice is that the dining room and kitchen area are both really clean as a whistle and there are all these cool movie posters in the wall. If you look closely, you might see the owner in one of the posters. How did you get the name Hollywood Heroes? Well, the owner lived in Jacksonville and opened up several of the Larry's giant sub locations, then he sold them and moved to LA became an actor for the next 25 years. When it came time to raise his daughter, he decided he wanted to come back to Florida to give her a true southern upbringing. He chose the menu, and it is layered with some phenomenal choices. Plus he will add exactly what you want on it, and because I ate inside and talked to him while he was in a slow spot, he even gave me a free drink. Regardless, you can tell he really enjoys his work and his customers. Well, if you've seen any of my reviews, you know this is a portrait where I describe the food . Since I was dining by myself, I can only give you one item that I tried. Sweet Tea - good, great, made with Southern Charm. Lazer - the sandwich was on the hot side of the menu, and it was fantastic. Layered with ham, turkey, and top with provolone cheese. I also added lettuce and tomato, some mayo and I was in love. Open 10AM mornings till 8:00 in the evenings and the food is affordable, personable and is made by a real live celebrity from LA. I wonder if he's dated Jennifer Aniston? Or hung around with George Clooney?

Stopped by here for lunch, great sub and super friendly service, the owner was making subs and was engaging with every customer like they were old friends even people like me who had never been there, I got the drake and would definitely get it again. I would much rather support a business like this versus Jersey Mikes or subway. My experience there has definitely earned a customer for life

Hollywood Heroes and Subs could have easily coasted on the novelty of its celebrity owner. A sandwich shop on Salisbury Road in Jacksonville, owned by actor Kevin Porter, best known as "Lazer" in Dodgeball. You half expect a gimmick. But I'm happy to report, it's not a gimmick at all. The subs are made to order. The bread comes from the beloved Village Bakery, the meats and vegetables sliced fresh each morning. The operation is clean, precise, and refreshingly earnest. I started with the "Lazer," the shop owner's namesake sandwich. A classic ham and turkey sub, melted provolone, ordered "all the way" with lettuce, tomato, onions, mayonnaise, mustard, and a splash of Italian dressing. A sandwich I've made a hundred times at home, but never like this. The bread was perfectly toasted, giving it that golden crust outside and a warm, pillowy interior. Balanced, simple, and exactly right. Maybe it's the ingredients, or maybe it's just that Kevin found the right rhythm between nostalgia and precision. Then came the Towering Inferno, their version of an Italian: pepperoni, Genoa salami, capicola, provolone, also ordered "all the way." This one had a bit more edge, the meats giving a gentle heat that built just enough to register, but never overpowered. The lettuce and tomato stayed cool, crisp, and essential. It is, without exaggeration, one of the better Italian subs I've had in this city. It helps that Kevin Porter is also a generous host. Business was light when I visited, so we sat down and chatted about his time in Hollywood, his Jacksonville roots, and how he ended up back here building sandwiches instead of stunt sequences. He's got the kind of story that makes you lean in. In fact, I enjoyed the conversation so much that Kevin will be my guest on the 100th episode of my podcast, Eat Your Content. If you want to hear the full story, and trust me, you do, make sure you're subscribed. Link in bio. But back to the food. Hollywood Heroes and Subs is not trying to reinvent the sandwich. What it is doing is honoring it, getting the details right, and putting heart behind the counter. That's worth showing up for. 4 out of 5 stars Excellent sandwiches, no gimmicks, just craftsmanship and care.

Tasty sub bowl and raider sub. We asked they kindly made a version of the sub bowl not on the menu but hit the spot with shaved beef and melted cheese with the balsamic dressing. Loved the sub bread and flavor combo kicked up a notch with jalapeños on the Raider.

This place is located in an office building without big signage so they rely on great food and service which seems to be working. My husband and I stopped in during a slower time (3pm) so we were cheerily welcomed by the owner and sandwich maker Kevin (he was in the movie Dodgeball!). Upon his recommendation we ordered the towering inferno and the chicken salad subs. Both were delicious. The chicken salad was just the way I like it simple and tasty. But to me the bread is what can make or break a sandwich and theirs is ordered daily from a local bakery so it was fresh and spot on. If you're looking for a great sub stop by, you won't be disappointed.

Sign in front of the building.
    Linda A.

This is a little gem tucked away in an office building, so carefully follow their signs. You walk in and they are SO friendly it's amazing. The owner and staff immediately make you feel like you're a regular. I was getting a sub to split to go. I tried the Lazar and it was great. It was warm and loaded with meat & melted cheese. The bread is so delicious. Not heavy, not toasted hard, but just warm & yummy. Truly unique. They cut the sub into 4 pieces and it was definitely plenty for two to split. I can't wait to go back & try something else.

    The Godfather

Love the subs recommend the godfather, the towering Inferno and the lazer. The toasted bread and deli sliced meat and cheeses are delicious. Nice friendly staff and a clean inviting atmosphere.

There was a decent amount of parking which I was surprised about given the location. The line was to the door when we arrived. The line went pretty quickly, about 5 minutes to get our order taken. I opted for the Hurricane burger, my son opted for a basic cheeseburger with only pickle. We also ordered fries and onion rings for the table. Our food took about 15 minutes, during this time, we saw a tray of fries sitting in the window. We were hoping it was not our order as they would be cold by the time our burgers were completed, however they called us and sure enough it was ours. We touched the fries and they were very cold. We told the employee, who knew the issue and they remade the fries. I'm glad they didn't make an issue about it, but also disappointing because the employees thought it was okay to even serve cold fries. The burgers were fantastic. The hurricane had so much flavor, I wouldn't hesitate to order it again. The onion rings were good and the fries were decent. My son loved his burger and the rest of the family enjoyed their meal. It was a nice lunch and I wouldn't hesitate to return.
