Was looking for a new car after one too many recalls on my KIA Soul. Heard good things about Holmgren and decided to check it out. Did send up leasing a Subaru Crosstrek. However, there were a few things that I found out afterward that make it so will never go back to this dealership. One was that I was signed up for the My Subaru app despite my very clearly telling the salesman I was not interested. Turns out it was buried somewhere in the leasing paperwork and I didn't find out until I received a bill for this app a month later. Next was the dealership NOT canceling my old plate despite telling me they would handle that. I found out when received a letter from the CT DMV telling me my Soul was no longer insured and there would be a $200 fine plus I had to provide proof of reregistration. I bought a used outback premium within the last month. After leaving the dealership I realized I did not have the 2nd fob for the vehicle. I went back the next day and spoke with the finance person due to the salesman being off that day. The finance person said he would get back to me after Jose got back , he may have the fob in his desk drawer which is locked, etc. I agreed and waited for both Jose or someone to get back to me about the 2nd fob. I called Subaru of America and they suggested I contact Jason regarding my 2nd fob. I spoke with him 2 weeks ago...thank God i have a Warranty...and he has been avoiding my calls. Im trying to return my vehicle as I have not been provided with a 2nd fob by Subaru and have no reason to be charged for one.... This seems to be the norm for Holmgren Subaru. I'm reaching out to the Attorney General and Consumer Protection to assist in my returning my vehicle. I have not driven ....only put 10 miles on it since I bought it... I had a really frustrating and disappointing experience with the service department at this dealership and would not recommend them. I brought my car in because of uneven tire wear on the front two tires and a squeaking noise over bumps. Instead of properly diagnosing the issue, they gave me a vague explanation that didn't make much sense, claiming "rusty struts" were causing the tire wear, yet they didn't even perform a tire alignment or provide any clear proof of what was causing the tire wear. On top of that, they tried to upsell me on new front brakes and struts, saying those were causing the noise, without showing anything definitive. What made the situation worse was when I mentioned that I had a lifetime powertrain warranty from a different dealer. The contract I signed for it clearly states that any Subaru dealership in America will honor it. When I mentioned it, the told me right off the rip that they don't honor it at all and that I would have to return to the Subaru dealership that I got the car at. Even though the issue was not involved with the powertrain, I left with an extremely bad taste in my mouth and immediately called Subaru corporate, which shouldn't be necessary for something this basic. Overall, it felt like they were guessing and more focused on selling expensive repairs than actually diagnosing the problem correctly or helping the customer. I left without real answers and had to schedule another appointment elsewhere to get a proper inspection. I tried calling the service manager to have a conversation about this but I just kept hearing how he "wasn't available". I wasted 180$ on a diagnostic fee that got me nowhere at all. If you're looking for honesty, transparency, and proper service, I would strongly suggest going somewhere else. This experience was disappointing from start to finish. I emailed one of their sales people regarding a particular vehicle they had listed online. I explained I wanted to lease, have great credit , gave them the miles I needed, etc. I received an email back saying they couldn't sell it because it's the owners wife's demo....Huh?....and that it was unlikely I would deal with them because of how far I was from them (an hour). Part got recalled, I was told several times that the replacement would take an hour. An hour and a half later, I asked how much longer it was going to take, they say 15 minutes, they're just putting the car back together. (A total of one hour and 45 minutes) Once my appointment has reached two hours and ten minutes, I ask again and "we'll let you know when it's done." If the replacement is going to take 2+ hours, tell the guest upfront, update me if there are complications, so I can plan accordingly. I got my car back after 2.5+ hours because another part in my car had been recalled, which would had been beneficial to have had communicated at any point in which they discovered additional time was needed or when I inquired. Check engine light came on on my 2020 Subaru Crosstreck; had 88,000 miles on it. Spent over $3,000 to fix it. Broke down 2-3 weeks later. Came back and they had my car for about a month, claiming they needed to speak to a Subaru of America specialist. In the end all they told me is they could not find anything abnormal with it. Brought it home and 5 days later it broke down again. Gave up on Holmgren Subaru, feels like they stole $3,000 from me. I ended up trading the car into a Nissian dealership I will never get a Subaru again because of this experience. read more

Holmgren service really was terrible. On Thursday March 20th I brought my Crosstrek in at 8:00 for a 12 month service, and was told it would take an hour. After 90 minutes I checked with the service desk and was told one of my tires was damaged, and would have to be replaced. No one had come to let me know, or inform me that they had no matching tire, and would have to wait for one. On Friday I was told the tire had arrived, but later was told it was the wrong type. Saturday I was told the right tire had arrived, but couldn't be mounted till Monday, and would be done first thing. By 3:00 Monday I had heard nothing. When I called I was told that it still had not been dealt with, but should be ready in an hour. An hour and a half later, still no call. I called and was told it might get done that day, but probably not until Tuesday. Come closing time I got comfortable and started dinner. Then they call to say it's ready and I should come down to pick it up. So, I get dressed again and drive there. I get the car: no apologies for the delay, just complaints about what a hard day they had had. Now, I do not blame them for the tire, or for the delay getting the correct replacement. However, since eventually the job was done in less than 30 minutes, there was plenty of time on both Saturday and Monday to take care of it. That, plus the lack of communication, left me very dissatisfied. One additional point. When I first got the car I noticed the tire pressure was much higher than the manual recommended, so I took it back to be checked. The Sales Manager did apologize for the inconvenience, and said he would arrange for a free fill up when I came in for my first service. The day after the problem I described above, I remembered this. Clearly he had either forgotten to tell the Service department, or the memo never got read since I clearly did not get any gas. This has been the most unprofessional and incompetent service experience I have ever had. I have owned Subarus for forty years and previously have always worked with another dealer, without any problems. Since they are located an hour away I decided to use Holmgren for my latest purchase as they are closer. This experience has made me regret my choice and will factor in my future purchases and service. read more

just now NEW When I first walked in not a single one of the 5+ employees looked up to help me. After wandering into the middle of the large empty room one finally greated me. I sat at his desk and it was fine until I told him what I was looking for price wise(18k range if possible) and he literally laughed at me so loud it echoed. Meanwhile I observed the employee at a desk across from me vaping inside. I looked at two cars and the employee helping me made it clear he didn't want to help me. When I confronted him about laughing at me he did not apologize but tried to explain away and keep me outside. Got prequalified through capital one and let my salesman Jesus know. I gave him all the numbers it was a ballpark of $0 down, 4.59% 72 months at $455 a month. Never filled out any paperwork just gave a copy of my license, he came back saying the app doesn't include fees etc (which it actually does) and told me i need to put at least $2100 down and would be looking at a $500+ payment. That was the "best the could do" so I left. Took a ride to Suburban Subaru in vernon. Told them what just happened, they took down my capital one prequalified information and had me fill a credit app out. Come to find out I qualified at a better rate directly through Subaru finance, put $0 down and they matched the monthly payment!!! My sister brought her Subaru into service, months later they STILL cannot fix nor diagnose this "rare" problem; yes "rare" was Kristen's (service manager) choice word. The service department said they have called in engineers, yet still cannot find this serious safety problem. My sister is making monthly car payments on a car she has not had for MONTHS. I find it astonishing that a car cannot be diagnosed within a day, or even a week, but MONTHS? My sister calls, speaks to Kirsten, gets same excuses over & over & over. Kristen constantly interrupts (I find her professional attitude disquieting, appalling, insulting, disparaging, and lacking honesty) my sister and she repeats exact same excuses she has said for months now, yet still no solution. We live with such technology today that this should have been diagnosed & repaired by now (within 2-3 weeks) OR an offer of a replacement Subaru from their used car lot with consideration of the unrepairable Subaru. My sister LOVES Subaru and would often speak highly of Subaru, until this disaster, which I can completely see & understand why she nor I would recommend Subaru no longer. The stress my sister has undergone; first without her car for months, to hear it's an undiagnosed rare problem, to be lied to several times (she has ample documentation) and again told she must have patience and wait longer from a callous dismissive service manager- I would say- DO NOT BUY a Subaru, especially from Holgrem Subaru. At this point my sister just opened a case with the BBB of Connecticut, opened a complaint with the DMV, as well as opened a case with Subaru corporate. My sister, still loyal to Subaru thinking her car is a lemon, would love nothing more then to be offered a replacement Subaru, one which is safe (knowing the Subaru she currently owns in the shop is a rare undiagnosable problem so if it is ever "repaired" to feel comfortable in that car again) and a car a company made right. Subaru has built a reputation of customer safety as a main priority, as well as having a quality automobile that lasts generations For the record Kristen says she offered my brother-in-law a loaner, free of charge, which my brother-in-law adbmately denies. Kristen who represents Subaru, as a business manager, while it may not be her fault, it is Subaru's RESPONSIBILITY at a minimum to diagnosis a car in a timely manner (3 weeks at MAX), offering a loaner after a couple days, which has NOT BEEN OFFERED! So apparently Kristen feels they can keep your only means of transportation indefinitely, to diagnose it, and you keep making payments for a car your not driving and figure out how to get around without your car. Completely unprofessional is an understatement! I am writing this after hearing this mornings conversation with Kristen; such lack of responsibility and how they are doing my sister a favor! Really? Then to listen to all the different representatives from above mentioned agency's shock and so apologetic to how my sister has been treated (or should I say ignored) I pray someone with authority, a sense of responsibility, obligation to loyal customers and basic respect will read this and consider doing the right thing. read more

I took my car there once after I had it diagnosed for the airbag light at the place I bought the car from. I was told that it was something a Subaru dealership had to fix because it was under warranty from Subaru. I took it to holmgren and gave them the paperwork from the other dealership. They ran diagnostics on the car and charged me $95 for it and told me it would be $300 to fix the problem. I told them I'd fix it myself. Now I get calls every few months from holmgren about getting my car serviced. I have asked to be put on their do not call list three times now. They still keep calling. My other experience there was a few years ago when I was looking for a black Hawkeye Impreza hatchback with a Manual transmission. I got a call from Justin saying that they had exactly what I wanted and to come down asap so we could fill out paperwork. They tried to put me in a saabaru that wasn't what I wanted. They had the car I really wanted but didn't really wanna work with me on that Impreza. I ended up going to eagleville motors up by uconn two years later and buying a legacy that I love. I checked the availability of the car with her and set the appointment. The following morning I checked with her again to be sure that the car was available as as lived 1 hour away and would be driving over later that day. The message from her that morning was that the car was available and we will see you then. So we drive over to the dealership only to find out it was sold the day before. No apology from her, no response to my email inquiry, and no interest in the customer. Not the way to do business. Just very disappointed in the way she handled the my situation. I had such a good experience when purchasing but I'm sad to say they lost my business due to a rude and unreasonable service department years ago. Recently because I was near there I thought I'd give them another chance. I called to see if I could get an oil change and repeatedly got sent to someone's voicemail. Noticing online that they had express service , I pulled in but was rudely told I was on the wrong side. They then made me back up and pull back in to another lane which was not very comfortable only to then tell me that they were going to lunch. Really the whole place goes to lunch at the same time. Stay away from this place. I recently moved into the area for work, and I really wish my coworkers told me to stay away form this place BEFORE taking my car in for its 60k service. They failed to fill the transmission fluid in the car after the service. Brought the car back and they held it for 2 days to figure out the issue. The service manager also had the audacity to tell me I can use my free transmission replacement issued by Subaru if the transmission needed to be replaced. This told me right away this place takes no responsibility for their work, nor will they ever live up to any major mistake they did. While it was novice hour in the service department, I had to repeatedly tell them I need a loaner if they need to keep the car over night. They called me 5 minutes till they closed to tell me they will need to keep the car overnight, and if I need a loaner. Thankfully the transmission doesn't need to be replaced (For now), and there was an "air bubble" in the line. Told Suburban Subaru where I bought the car from next service and the shocked disbelief look on everyone's face told me Holmgren Subaru is a dumpster fire of a dealership. I was stranded in CT after my car needed immediate repairs while taking my son back to college. The staff at Holmgren were extremely professional and attentive to my immediate concerns. The Subaru technician took the time to explain the necessary repairs and when the work was completed they gave me all the used parts. The issue turned out to be a faulty mechanical error as a result to another business in my state who had worked on my vehicle. Throughout the time my car was being serviced, I was kept informed of the process and given a loaner car to get around. My vehicle was repaired and returned running smoothly. Easiest car-buying experience of my life. I called explaining I was looking for a used "one owner" low mileage 'loaded' Subaru, and was not sure if I wanted a Legacy or CrossTrek. Told them something from the Subaru auction with no 'accidents' was fine, and it needed to be loaded as I travel extensively. My requirement of leather seats limited what was available used, but they showed me exactly what I wanted. Angel helped me, and the car I wanted was right in their lot - used 2015 Legacy Premium 2.5i only 3,300 miles from "Martha's Vineyard" - one owner of 6 months, with commercial plates and a clean history (must have been a very hard-working Uber driver to put 3,300 miles in 6 months from Martha's Vineyard - smile) .. Car was in perfect, brand new condition. I was able to drive both a new and used CrossTrek, and this Legacy. They let me have the car for several hours, as I was going to 'test drive other brands' - smart move on the Sales Manager's part - the minute I got this car on the highway, she was mine. They did not try to sell me a new car. The list price on this car (which is/was basically new) was $28,500 for a 2016 - the Retail value of this car was $26,500. I purchased the vehicle for less than $23,000. Simple, upfront, and straightforward. I was an educated consumer, read Consumer Reports, talked to people who had Subaru's and safety was a big issue for me - my previous ride - a Cadillac ATS - had been rear-ended at high speed and totaled. This Subaru Legacy has more bells and whistles than my 2013 Cadillac ATS, cost less money, and gives a better ride, with a lot more safety features. Everyone I dealt with, including their finance department, was helpful, efficient, and did not waste my time. They treated this sale as a "brand new car" sale and Angel methodically and patiently went over each and every aspect of this Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium. They detailed the car, introduced me to the Sales Manager, the techs at the Service Department, gave me the WeatherTech mats at the Amazon/eBay price. Who could ask for more? I've read some of the prior reviews here, and they are several years old - this car was purchased late March 2016. I also purchased the 100,000 mile warranty directly from "Subaru of America" so if there is an issue in the future, it is a non-issue with a $100 deductible. Really ... I had purchased warranties before that were "third party" and that's when you run into problems, like this is 'not covered'. Know what you want, what you are buying and the fair market value. I highly recommend Holmgren Subaru, and Angel (sales person) for any Subaru purchase. I purchased several Subaru's from them in the 80's as well, and again, no issues - simple, fair, straightforward. Truly enjoying my new ride, took it to Vermont in March, ran into ice/sleet/snow - not a problem. Great fuel efficiency, great apps that connect with my iPhone, easy controls, and Consumer Report rates it as a 91 in mid-sized sedans - the only 100 they gave was the $90,00 Tesla. So with this car, and with Holmgren Subaru - I got a lot for my money, and again, they did not waste my time. My highest recommendation, and thanks to their entire team. read more

Many options were offered and extended warranty was declined. But was included in papers he signed. Contacted the dealership and they lied about it. Saying that warranty was agreed upon. purchased my vehicle new, so its still under warranty. took the car in, told them i had a problem with the cd player (wear and tear + bad build + shoddy parts) and the service dept told me they would fix it free of charge. giving the stealership the benefit of the doubt, i left the car there. a few hours later, they call me telling me that the problem was not covered under the warranty and charged me a diagnostics fee (when i told them exactly what the problem was.) basically, parts broke under normal wear and tear and they call it operator misuse. its pretty much a loophole to get out of any warranty repair. no ky, no jelly. should have known better. read more

His mystery car was never in inventory(just happened to not be there) to begin with, just wanted to get my teenage daughter in there to buy something. Once he realized she couldnt just jump on what he wanted, he was done assisting her. Wouldnt follow up with us like he said(i had to keep calling), was very short on the phone after days of not communicating.
