Holt's is a fine addition to Park Ridge and a great spot to socialize if you plan on attending a library program or going to the Pickwick. The drinks here are great and the portion sizes are pretty big. My only complaint is that service can be a little slow. However, when your order does come, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Just visited again and I am thoroughly disappointed. No where near what it used to be. Menu has changed (I get it) but choices are typical not the flair it once had. We have always started with their calamari appetizer. It's now calamari, shrimp and fries. It all tastes like fries. I ordered steak sandwich. Threw 1/2 away. Meat had absolutely no flavor. I came here a couple of time for drinks and it is always packed. Both times we were lucky to find seats at the bar or else we would've had to wait at least 30 mins for a table. The cheese fries are the best! They're made with cheddar cheese and full of flavor. Their pizza looked amazing and endless amounts of unique toppings (like grapes, weird) My favorite cocktail is the pink mojito. I can't get enough! On the one hand, when you boil it down, Holt's is just a slightly elevated bar and grill; their menu is limited to pizzas, salads, burgers and other sandwiches, plus a few standards such as mac and cheese, fish tacos, and chicken wings. On the other hand, a slightly elevated bar and grill is right in Park Ridge's wheelhouse--boring, but nice. So the concept is simple, but the execution is well done. The place looks cool inside. The food is generally really good. And they offer a solid beer list and several craft cocktails. I can highly recommend the steak sandwich and the sloppy joe, which is made with both ground beef and chorizo. The calamari is okay, a bit salty. Good fries. On my last visit I lunched with my three-year-old. Their kids menu does not indicate that an entree comes with anything, but when the plate arrived it was quite a little feast: grilled cheese sandwich, fries, small dish of tomato soup, plus a kid's drink, all for $5.95. It seemed like a great value, because in truth that plate of food would satisfy most adults. The primary annoyance here is the deafening dining room. I got the avocado and burrata toast and really enjoyed it. The burrata was super fluffy and the avocado tasted very fresh. There was plenty of both the burrata and avocado, but I wish it had more radishes. My favorite part was actually the wheat bread. It really surprised me because sometimes wheat bread can be too hard, but this had a nice crispy crust and softer middle. It was also really thick so it was the perfect ratio of bread to toppings. While it might look like a small meal, it definitely filled me up. The restaurant itself had a fun atmosphere. There's a pretty big bar and a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. Stopped in about 6pm on a Friday prior to a movie at the Muvico theater, and the wait time was 45 minutes for a table. We squeezed in at the awkward two end seats (which really should only be one bc there needs to be some room for the bartender to place the drinks to be picked up) of the bar. I ordered the house burger (pretzel bun, cremini mushrooms, and cheddar), but received the custom cheeseburger (LTO and pickle on brioche). I regret not making it a point to tell the bartender (the principle!) but a) I was going to eat the burger anyway bc we were short on time, b) he was busy making drinks and hardly ever looked up, and c) I guess the burger I got saved me a couple bucks. In the end, the burger was juicy and hit the spot, and the serving of fries was plentiful, so life goes on. My husband got the tomato soup (thumbs up for its flavor) and beet salad (thumbs up for its fillingness), and the bill for the two of us was about $32 including tax and tip, which is cheaper than some of our brunches out. I'm never in Park Ridge. And I mean never. But this was a pretty good place for a friend of mine and myself to meet up at considering he was all the way in Naperville. There was outdoor seating and the floor to ceiling windows opened up so you could see out of the restaurant and the warm evening air could breeze through. We both ordered beers and my friend got one of the burgers while I got the tomato soup with grilled cheese. Looking at the menu, you have a lot to choose from: pizza, salads, burgers , sandwiches plus a typical kid's menu. I ordered the beet salad and was disappointed. The greens in the salad were not the freshest. Many of the leaves were wilted or yellow. I have to believe they forgot to put dressing on the salad because it tasted like it had only been washed. My friend ordered the chopped salad. That looked much better but her salad also did not have dressing on it. We asked the waitress for more dressing and she was quick to grab some extra dressing. Unfortunately the impression was already made. Maybe they were having an off day in the kitchen? My husband ordered the sloppy joe and was very happy with his meal. It pains me to say this, but have been going here for several years and while the food is great, it's super loud even when not crowded and most disappointingly they charge a "processing fee" for who knows what. Went with a large group, paid cash at the bar and also the bill at the table. So what's the fee for? We tip generously & deliberately pay cash @ small and independent establishments so that they do not have to pay credit card fees. Yes, everything has gone up in price, but don't insult your customers by charging yet another fee. Do you like it when the airlines, airbnb, Ticketmaster, etc do it to you? Maybe raise the menu prices just a bit (50 cents to $1) and that should cover whatever it is that has gone up. read more

I really loved the vibe of Holt's! It's a good mix of a bar and a restaurant--I especially love the holiday decor. We came in around 7pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was quite full, but we were seated immediately. Their drink menu is many pages long full of inventive cocktails (many GOT themed) on a clipboard. We opted for a Jon Snow (a limey version of a Moscow Mule) and a Radler Stiegl. We placed our order: burrata, cheddar fries, salmon BLT + grilled veggies, and a small pesto chicken pizza. The star of our meal was definitely the burrata--which was paired with sliced grape tomatoes, balsamic reduction, basil, olive oil, and delightful toasted bread. Fries were delicious, but I wish they had mentioned the cheddar was sharp like Merkt's. The "small" pesto chicken pizza could have served 3-4--I wish they offered a smaller option and I also wish it came with pizza sauce ): The biggest let down was the salmon BLT--which was room temp, tasteless, and had very little dill mayo. So it looked great. Even when we first got our meals, it looked delicious...until we took our first bites. It was just really disappointing at every turn. The squash salad was soggy, the crust on the regular pizza was chalky and when I say my gluten free pizza was burned...I mean charred, scrape-it-with-your-knife-and-it-flakes-off-black burned. Park Ridge is lucky Holt's set up shop. I know the longstanding menswear place that was in this spot was nice, but the community needed a privately owned hang out and restaurant. I have eaten here many times since opening. They have a great, but small, beer garden where you can soak in the sun and people watch. The food is all very good. They have great pizzas, salads and sandwiches. The cheese curds are awesome - served with marinara and ranch. They taste fresh and I feel like I am up in Wisconsin when we have them. The pizza is New Haven style - comes out a bit charred, thin, crispy and cut in odd slices. It is very good and a large should be big enough for a family of 4. They also have a Taco Pizza which is amazing! I have never had a bad experience with anything on the menu. Service is usually pretty friendly and quick. After a long day of moving, the husband & I were exhausted, hungry, and in need of a good meal & a cold brew or two. Holt's was bumping on this warm Friday night, the car show was buzzing with families, and we had a small wait for the restaurant, but we didn't mind venturing around. As we sat down, I couldn't help but eye the pizzas from my neighborly patrons. They all looked incredible ! Both of us ordered a delicious craft beer, started with the hot wings, and ordered the tasty mashed potato & bacon pizza. The wings were meaty and spicy, but the star of the show was the pizza. It reminded me of Piece pizza in Wicker Park, but with its own flair. The bacon was crispy, sweet and salty, the mashed potato was the perfect base, and the thin crust was perfection !! I can see myself as a regular at Holt's during this summer with its beautiful patio area, large windows for the indoor patrons to enjoy the weather, and the service was spot on. read more

My boyfriend got grilled cheese and tomato soup. I got salmon BLT. I'll be honest. I wasn't sure how bacon and salmon would taste bc I never had it together before but it was to die for. A friend recommended Holt's so we came by after a soccer game. We were sweaty, tired and hungry and Holt's hit the spot. They opened their window walls but have fans and air flowing so we were comfortable sitting by the opening. The service was great the wait staff was very attentive although they were really busy (Farmer's Market and a flea market were near by). We ordered a cheese and sausage pizza and the kids loved it! Everything tasted fresh and it the wait time was fair. The decor really makes it inviting and interesting. The owner has great taste, I mean the place is an ode to Breaking Bad! There is so much to look at in every corner but there is no clutter. Everything is clean and organized. Brunch is pretty good, but under no circumstances should you order the "biscuits" and gravy. It's a piece of bread (NOT biscuits) with the strangest sausage gravy ever--it looks like diced summer sausage, not crumbled breakfast sausage. It is not delicious. We told the guy who brought it to the table, "that's not a biscuit." He shrugged it off & left. We then told our server the same thing. She said, "Oh, I thought you knew. That's our version of biscuits & gravy." Would've been nice if she had told us that when we ordered, not after it was delivered. To her credit, she replaced it & did what she could to make it right. On the upside, the spicy Bloody Mary with a beer chaser tasted excellent, exactly right. I recommend the Traditional breakfast if you go for brunch. read more

I ordered the pizza with bacon, sausage, and green pepper. The pizza came and was so good! But, there was a problem. No bacon! Liked the vibe inside, feels like a higher end neighborhood bar. Would definitely pop back here for a cocktail or a beer. The pizza we got-pesto and arugula and crispy chicken- was absolutely amazing and I would come back just for that. The place has got a nice ambiance of like an upscale diner. Now for the bads- the service was atrocious on a Sunday afternoon which is when I would've expected it would be busy and they should be well staffed. They had like one food runner and two waitresses who also kept going behind the bar. It took us forever to get water, then to order, then to get food, and then our check.
