Great pizza place! Tonight was my first time visiting the Holt's and first time having seafood pizza, i.e. calamari pizza. Calamari: It's delish! The bread was just right, not soggy or soft, but rather on the crunchy/crispy side. There were so much calamari on the pizza. Scallion added another dimension to taste, which I loved! Generous portion. Size small was great because I have leftover for tomorrow. I want to love this place as a friend told me how phenomenal the chicken and elote tacos are .. but the one time I tried going (Monday 12/27 around 3pm) they were closed when their hours suggest they should be open. I wasn't the only one outside the place trying to get in to eat. There was no sign on the door stating whether they were opening late or not at all, and the answering machine didn't state that they would be closed that day. We ended up dining somewhere else, but Holts was a big let down. I will try and go back another time but try calling first. read more

I really wanted to like Holt's - it's been open in Park Ridge for a while now, and it seemed to have some good reviews. PR needs some more restaurants, and this format is what we're looking for as an occasional beer and burger place. We were out running errands last night, and decided to check it out. We got there around 8PM, and the restaurant wasn't packed. We came in the front, and no hostess, no one to seat us, just standing there waiting... some guy finally got up from the bar and seated us (maybe the owner?). First, I've got to say, that while the menu looks cool, it's unreadable in the low light. Who thought printing orange on a beige background would work? Good selection of craft beers, and an average selection of salads, sandwiches and pizza. All of the pizzas were "craft pizza", i.e. strange ingredient combos (which, i'll admit, can sometimes work). My wife settled on the goat cheese and grape pizza; I picked the reuben. For an appetizer we chose the fried cheese curds - these were done well, and were delicious, although the dipping sauces weren't anything special - ranch dressing and a thick tomato paste. Pizza and reuben arrived, and i was less than impressed... They could have done more with the pizza to incorporate the two major ingredients - lots of mozzarella cheese with dabs of goat cheese, a few grilled onions, and the lots of cold green and red grapes sprinkled on top. It just didn't work for me - but my wife was ok with it. The ruben was about as good as you'd get at Denny's... Crispy on one side, soft on the other, meat piled up in one corner, very little sauerkraut. But where they really fell down was the fries... First fries that came out were cold and rubbery. I asked for some fresh ones, and these came out hot, but still pretty rubbery... How hard is it to cook good fries? So, all in all, not impressed. There were a few good things (curds and beer selection), but not enough to warrant a return trip. Maybe it was the fact that we were there late on a Monday night, but it seemed like no one really cared about service or the quality of the food. Our go to place for beer and burgers has been Iron Horse Ale House on NW Hwy. While Holt's is closer to home, we'll still be going back to Iron Horse. Holt's looks cute as far as the aesthetic- they have a nice patio, and the look of it makes you want to dine there, however I must say I am disappointed with them. It is painful to find a vegan option to eat-they took the veggie burger off the menu, which seems like a huge step back in the wrong direction, and on top of it, they haven't even taken it off the website menu, so when I tried to order it in house, I was highly disappointed. To find anything remotely vegan, you have to ask to customize everything. I think I got the spinach salad with no cheese, (yay another salad) and brussels sprouts without cheese. I went to Holt's for the first time. It's a very trendy pizza place that looks like it belongs in the city. I loved the decor. We got sliders, fries, cheese curds and salad. The sliders were cooked to perfections and the fries were delicious. I can't even talk about the cheese curds without my mouth watering! They were amazing! They are lightly battered and not greasy. Before I say any more, I encourage you all to try the Olive Oil Cake. I almost didn't because I was pretty full, but then remembered I'd read in a review that their desserts are quite good. The cake comes with caramel sauce drizzled on the plate around it, and is topped with whipped Marscapone When it arrived it just looked like a big, square blonde brownie with some sweet sauce dripped around it and a dollop of something on top. But, oh my goodness, looks are deceiving! The first bite didn't grab me -- It was really different from what I was expecting, spongier and not as sweet -- but by the third bite I was hooked! Make sure you have a little bit of Marscapone and caramel sauce in each bite. The combination of these with the cake itself really make it wonderful. My husband had the butterscotch pie, and said it was good. I tried a taste, and yes, it was good, but I'm glad I had the cake! It was life-changing! We tried to order cheese curds but they were out of them. No problem -- This just necessitates a return trip! We ordered drinks -- My husband tried one of their Porters and said it was good, and I had the Balboa, a Bloody Mary garnished with an antipasto skewer (lemon and lime wedges flanking a large green olive and chunk of cheese) and a slice of peppered bacon. The drink was good, although a bit small. I ended up ordering two, and would have preferred a larger size such that one drink would have taken me through our lunch. Even though we were there during brunch hours (until 3pm Sa/Su), we were there for lunch so both decided to order burgers. I had the House Burger with no modifications, and it was very good. I ordered it medium rare, and although it came more medium tending toward medium well, it was very juicy so this wasn't really a problem, and the pretzel roll was nice and soft. My husband had the Custom Burger and added a fried egg, and said his was also good. He ordered his medium, and it looked about the same amount of done-ness as mine. We both had fries as our side, and they were good, although I did need to add a little salt as they were unseasoned. There was a large group seated next to us, so probably because they were a little loud I'd classify the noise level a little on the loud side, but this probably varies with the crowd. My husband was pleased that they had several TVs over the bar and also on the opposite wall, so he happily kept an eye on the baseball and basketball games as we ate. This is a fun place with a fun menu -- The cocktails all have names tied to the Rocky movies (I had the Balboa this time, and next time I'm probably going to try the Paulie), and there was a collage of paintings of nuns with boxing gloves on the rear wall that I'll have to check out in detail next time, too -- Quirky, but fun. read more

I love Holt's atmosphere (inside and outside), and the food is delicious. You won't be disappointed with their pizzas, cheese curds, meatball salad or burgers. They also have some really delicious cocktails. The only negative is that the service is so so slow. It takes forever for a server to come by, and the food takes long as well. Went to Holts with my wife recently and was unpleasantly surprised. We looked it up and made our decision based off the good reviews. Took quite awhile in an almost empty restaurant just to get our waters. The drinks were quite good, I will give them that. The table itself was sticky. We ordered the fried zucchini which was great, the sauce was very flavorful. My wife ordered a burger which was dry as boot leather and seasoned "with hopes and dreams" in my words. I ordered the pesto chicken pizza and it required so much parm and red pepper to make it remotely enjoyable enough to eat. I expected some arugula, what they brought out looked like a salad. There was almost 3 inches of arugula on this pizza to where you couldn't even see any remnants of crust, cheese or chicken... not to mention the chicken, if you want frozen Tyson chicken from the freezer at Walmart on your $25 dollar pizza then this is it. Went there for lunch with some coworkers. I got the house burger and it delicious. I asked for medium rare and it was cooked just right. The atmosphere is nice and the staff was very friendly. I even for a cute mini Tabasco sauce to go! However, the appetizers are a bit pricey for what you get. They could be more generous with the portions. During the Covid-19 pandemic restaurants were allowed to open back up with social distancing and limitations in place. Unfortunately, Holt's doesn't care to properly train their staff. Their bartenders take their masks off to talk to one another and repeatedly touch their masks, then proceed to handle food and drinks. This has been repeatedly seen by MANY different customers, including myself. I've been here quite a few times, but realized I had never left a review! We went last night for some later night eats. We were seated right away, but we have had to wait in the past... just depends on what time you go! We got a chopped salad. I love their chopped salad (something I crave actually... which is not very common that I crave a salad, but it's that good). It's a very large portion and can easily be shared! We got the meatball appetizer - was good, but honestly I've had and made better so I would skip this. Last but not least we had the cheese curds. They were yummy, but a tad on the greasy side... but I guess they are cheese curds so that is to be expected! Lol. At this point we (the 4 of us) were full. Sadly we will not be going back to one of our local favorites since our server, the bus boy, food runner, the bartender and the manager/owner did not wear face masks the entire time we were there. Well, our server had a face mask around her neck but would only touch it or leave it on her chin, with her mouth and nose exposed. The others had no visible face mask at all. Unfortunately we did not get one of the other 3 or 4 servers that were wearing masks. Will note that both hostesses did have face masks on. Customers were also being seated without face masks while walking through the patio, and walking to the restrooms without face masks. Will Have to wait to return after a vaccine or this whole COVID mess is fixed. We do love the food and did take out many times during quarantined. So sad about the lack of precautions. read more

Wha??? Whoa, when did Holt's get here? My sister in law found this place and said there was a new restaurant we hadn't been to in Park Ridge. Given the fact that I grew up here, and my parents still live here it was definitely news to us. Wasn't there an ice cream place or something here before?? What was here was what I was thinking as we walked into. The restaurant itself has a big open modern vibe which is refreshing. Granted its a little bit louder than other restaurants, its on par with it being more of a bar/restaurant. They have sandwiches, a large array of salads, wings and the traditional bar foods like pizza. But all of it is with a little twist and just better what you would typically find. A full family of 7 had a lot to eat and even food to spare for a great price. I'm not going to say its the best food in the world but I think with atmosphere, staff, price and food it is a really good experience overall. We will definitely be back as the salads and pizzas are unique. Hope they stay open a while! read more

However, we dined there the evening of Saturday, June 30 with five people around 9pm. Again, food was good, service was meh, but overall a good time. Two days later I realized my debit card was overcharged. I tried getting in touch with management on three different occasions to rectify the situation and was told a Brad or Brett (someone with a B) is the only person who handles refunds, ticket disputes, etc and would call me. For the best restaurant real estate in Park Ridge, I am slightly disappointed. It's a good restaurant, but not great. Nothing defines it from the rest. The nice ambience with the windows and patio make for a nice evening. However, it can be quite noisy. The reason I am underwhelmed is that everything here is good. The burger is just good, but you can get a better burger at Harp and Fiddle. The pizza is good, but better pizza can be found at nearly any other Chicago pizza joint. One piece of credit I will give Holt's is for their Salmon BLT. It's unique and uses fresh caught sockeye salmon. It's healthy and delicious. In the end, if you want the best pizza go elsewhere. I've been meaning to update my review of Holt's for awhile, after having been there dozens of times. This is a clear 5-star in Park Ridge. The beer selection is outstanding, the craft cocktails creative, and they roll out the red carpet with drink specials like their bloody mary bar. My favorites on the menu are the steak sandwich, the italian beef pizza, the cheese curds, the custom burger, and the sausage/biscuits/gravy.
