My first time here and I am sure I will be back. I had heard of this place from friends. I was passing by and decided to try it out. The operate out of a large food truck with plenty of covered patio type seating. They seem to serve the typical Bar-B-Que fare so we ordered a pulled pork sandwich and the two meat plate. For the meat plate, we got the brisket and pork rib with jalapeño corn and pinto beans for sides. The beans are pretty average but the corn was exceptional. The brisket is good, but like some others commented, a bit more fat than I would like and greasy. But we definitely ate it. For the pork rib, the meat didn't exactly fall off the bone, but it was very tender. The pulled pork sandwich was the best part of the meal. They put ample meat on the bun and if you eat it dry without anything else, it's delicious. If you are passing by, I do recommend it. There is better BBQ but if you eat here, you won't be disappointed. As I mentioned, I will surely come back. read more

This place is pretty legit. They serve a good amount of food and the quality is good. The staff was mildly friendly. Originally one staff seemed annoyed that we took a bit of time to order and asked a few questions but ended up thanking us for the business and have a good day. I would classify the bbq as average. It's probably not going to win any awards but will happily settle any bbq urge you have. If you are in the Austin area I would say it's easily on par with Rudys and Smokey Moes. Inside they have a few tables and have a few fun little games to keep you occupied like tic tac toe and others which is great for kids - and adults. The brisket nachos were pretty good, I do wish they used a different cheese other than "ballpark" nacho cheese. A queso blanco would be awesome. While the cheese isn't gross as true ballpark queso, I think they can do better. The way they served the ice was pretty gross. It was a container of ice sitting out and a scooper that is used to get the ice out sitting on top of the ice. So, yeah.... You open the containers lid, grab the scooper in the ice, get some ice, and lay the scooper back in the ice and replace the lid. I mean pre Covid, that's even gross. But with Covid I think they could replace this. Anyway, no ice for me. Luckily the tea had a bunch of ice in it. Hopefully, it didn't use the same scooper. read more

I decided to eat at Holy Smokes because I had heard it was good. I don't know what these people are thinking. It's nice on the inside and you go up to the bar to order. The menu is up on the wall and I was excited about all the sides. I got the two meat two sides plate. I got brisket, sausage, potato salad, pinto beans, and jalapeño corn. It also came with pickles, onions, jalapeño's, and bread. The brisket was good but it was greasy and most of it was fat which I don't like. The sausage reminded me of Hillshire Farm. The rubbery consistency and flavor were mediocre. The pinto beans had no flavor and the potato salad was sweet and didn't taste homemade. The sauce was ok but tasted like something you can buy at the store. The best part was the jalapeño corn. It had a bite to it and was very flavorful. I really wanted it to be good but it was just another meal and I probably won't be back. read more

It has nice ambiance but really mediocre BBQ especially here in Central Texas. I can name a dozen or more that are better. We originally went by the Bluebonnet Cafe but the wait was too long for a Friday noon. The basic BBQ at Holy Smokes isn't real tasty. Their BBQ sauce has too much vinegar for my tastes. Adding to mediocre meal for my wife and I, they were out of several things like shredded cheese for a stuffed baked potato with brisket. My wife ordered a side salad with here ribs plus mashed potatoes. They were out of salad makings and had to get coleslaw. The brisket portion on my potato was small and almost tasteless. If you want a meal in Marble Falls, try anywhere else. This place needs a lot of improvement. read more

The side of pickles were the best part of our meal... The Mac n cheese was dry, cold, and undercooked. The brisket was VERY fatty. The stuffed baked potato was more dry potato than stuffing/toppings. We were in the mood for bbq today so finally tried this place out. When you first walk in you get the impression of a family owned place, which we like. You place your order at the register and pay while the other person gets your food together. The staff was friendly but seemed understaffed. We each ordered the 2 meat combo with 1 rib each. We tried the chicken, jalapeño sausage, regular sausage and brisket. We also had the jalapeño popper, jalapeño creamed corn, pinto beans and garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken was the highlight of the plate. It was flavorful. We ended up getting the sauce on the side which was good. Both types of sausage were ok, but nothing remarkable. The brisket was dry. The ribs unfortunately were soaked in sauce when we had ordered them without, so it was soggy and very unappealing. The rib was very salty. Oh wow; OH WOW. Austin BBQ has a real serious competitor, and it's in Marble Falls. We spent several fun hours at Sweet Berry Farms and decided to stop by Holy Smokes because of their good reviews. A small bbq place with no lines and no hype? What could they possibly offer that would be on the same page as Rudy's brisket or Franklin's ribs? A lot. Walking in around 2pm, there were only two other parties here. We were a party of four so we elected to share the Ribs, Brisket, and Sausage. Our first "mistake" was getting a full rack of ribs. This ain't your chain restaurant definition of full rack of ribs. This full rack is gigantic! Sure we had other meats to get through, but the four of us were only able to take down half of it. Now let's get to what matters: the taste. The spare ribs definitely ranks in my top two best tasting, most tender ribs I've ever had (probably my #1 to be honest). It comes with a sweet sauce drizzled on top and although I'm not a fan of sauce, it really compliments the meat very well without overpowering it. So so tender! It was honestly not feasible to transfer a rib to your plate without the meat sliding off the bone and splitting into five pieces. You'll need two forks and steady hands for this job. Their brisket was also really good. On par with Rudy's brisket, but my one complaint is that a lot of the slices were either too lean or consisted of 80% or more fat. Extremely full at the end. They advertised huge portions and that's exactly what we got. Got our leftovers for dinner that night. The staff was excellent as well. They made sure we had everything we needed, and the owner even came out and asked about the food. If you're a fan of ribs and in Marble Falls, stop by Holy Smokes cause it'll change your life. Wow! This is just some damn good BBQ! The brisket was tender and tasty, just the right amount of dry rub to make sure the natural flavor comes alive. The ribs were moist and tasty with a sauce that wasn't overwhelming or too sweet and fell right off the bone. The chicken - WOW THE CHICKEN! - white meat that was so moist and tender and so full of flavor. I'm not usually a white meat gal, but this was just beyond scrumptious. The sausage was yummy, too. I also am not a fan of sausage usually, but holy smokes it was yummy. (See what I did there?...) The potato salad was tasty, but I'd love it even more with just a bit more dill. I mixed the Mustang Lemonade and Unsweet tea to make the perfect liquid concoction for my plate. All in all, this was completely worth the drive and I'll be telling friends and coming back again. Out in the Hill Country from Ohio, with our Texan grandchildren on Spring break. We read the reviews of this place and had to try it. Online, it was open at 4:30, but when we go there at 4:35 pm, it was closed. On a lark, we called the number and Mary answered; still at the restaurant and when hearing of our situation, said come on in. Apparently, they were open in the evening until COVID, post COVID, but now can't get consistent help. Mary had brisket, sausage, cole slaw and potato salad and super sweet tea. With grace and not a hint of resentment, Mary packed brisket, sausage, cole slaw and potato salad to go. Later Randy walked in. What a wonderful couple! They've had their challenges and hard times, but they are truly committed to serve those who come into their establishment. And, when we got home, what a meal!- brisket that fell apart; sausage with a bit of a kick, but not too spicy. Subtle but very flavorful cole slaw and sweet potato salad. And the sauce, smoky and sweet! I'm not saying that they will open for anyone after they are closed, but apparently they've done this before if they are there. For us, it was a meal to remember! The turkey was nice and juicy and the sausage had a nice crunch to the skin. There were flies EVERYWHERE! I'm not just talking about we're in the south level but way worse. The fact that they handed out a flyswatter to a customer nearby who asked for it was just kind of off putting to me. Yes! They are open for dine in! 3 stars seems harsh but I have good reason and it's not the food. They are open for dine in but unfortunately the flies were dining in as well. A lot of them. We were constantly fly buzzed the whole time, having to fan our drinks and food. That was the worst. Now onto the 'a little bit better' parts. Not as bad as the flies but still not good was the food came out barley warm, if even warm. I'm a big believer that food needs to be cooked right, with good flavor, just the right amount of spices, right texture and especially presented at the right temperature. Here's the good parts. The brisket is amazing. It's moist, tender, good bark With amazing Smokey flavor. Loved it. Probably the best Luke warm brisket I've ever had. The jalapeño sausage had good flavor, a tad dense but still very good. The best were the ribs! I think they have a dry rub with cinnamon in there. I've always liked that with bbq. They were fall off the bone tender, excellent smoke. The bbq sauce was fantastic as well. The creamed jalapeño corn was really good and the potato salad was basic but very good. The atmosphere is very laid back with red and white checkered plastic table cloths, and benches for seating. Those are fine with me, just thought some may want to know this if planning a date. The meat was too salty for my taste. The service by both people there was NOT good!!! Im very disappointed, I was really looking forward to a good bbq sandwich. Delicious BBQ and sides. The ribs just fall off the bone and there is no need to add anything, although the sauce is real good. The brisket is tender and moist. The cornbread, potato salad, beans, and garlic mashed potatoes are all excellent additions to the plate. You leave space for the spicy chocolate cake and peach cobbler. Loved this place. Found it on our way back to Austin. Had the brisket and ribs. Which were both great. I especially loved their homemade BBQ sauce. The spicy one was amazing and my favorite. The owner came out and chatted us up, such a nice guy, and gave us helpful tips for home BBQ although I know ours won't approach his. The sides were decent but not particularly memorable. It was real basic with paper plates and that but it was a very cozy feel with tasty meats and perfect for our late lunch. It's a little tricky finding it as its off the main road with no signs but it was well worth it. Owner says he's opening up some new locations in future so that's great to know. read more

This is BBQ! Picture that statement said in the "This is Sparta!" style, and you'll get an idea of how I felt about Holy Smokes. Their tagline: "No teeth required." That's because their food is soooo tender that it doesn't need the help of primitive tools such as teeth. I had the two meat plate: brisket and chicken. I had wanted sausage as well, but all they had was jalapeño sausage which wasn't up my alley (bonus points: they happily offered to cut me a slice to see if I could handle the spiciness - it was tasty but too spicy for me). The chicken was done to perfection and came with a tub of sweet BBQ - a perfect complement. I thought it couldn't get any better...then I tried the mouth-watering brisket with the regular sauce. Seriously. This is BBQ. Perfect flavor, perfect tenderness, perfect sauce. The green bean and potato salad sides held their own. Both excellent choices. I got one of their artisan-style bread slices, and the cashier happily doused it with liquid butter. They also have banana pudding, which has a certain spicy/sweet flavor - very obviously an original recipe and not something made with pudding-in-a-box. Recommended. The place is a little bit off the highway, so you might never know it's there...but it's 100% worth going. The inside is nicely decorated, though on the small side.
