Honestly, I was really impressed, start to finish. When we first bought our condo, we knew we'd need to get new carpeting and we were prepared for a long search. But the salesperson who helped us pick out the carpeting at Home Carpet One was very knowledgeable and helpful, and even told us ways that we could save on expense without sacrificing quality. The date we set for installation was exactly as stated, and the installers did a great job. Then, a couple of years later, when I managed to spill some tea on the carpeting that just wouldn't come out, Home Carpet One gave us a better price than anyone else to cut out the stain and put in a new piece of carpeting (that I had at home). And even better, the installer was there right on time on the date we set, and did just a fabulous job, going above and beyond to make sure it looked excellent and like new. The only snafu I encountered was a discontinuation of an 'in-stock' carpet however they accommodated me with an alternate selection while honoring the lower price. Very Nice!!! I really wanted to like these guys since their ratings were better than Empire or Luna, but their installers crapped out the whole transaction. They left marks all over our walls, and chipped our tile. Sheesh. To be fair, Home Carpet One did attempt to resolve the situation: they offered to touch up the marks in the paint, and asked if we had an extra piece of tile so they could replace it. By that point though, with 20+ marks on the wall, I wasn't too interested in seeing the same installer's handiwork with a brush, so I did it myself. As for the tile, we had no spares, so we are left with no resolution there. The carpet looks good, and the price was reasonable. I thought the installation was a little pricey (about double Home Depot's install cost), which was particularly insulting when they banged up the walls so badly. No discount on the installation, even after all the trouble we had. read more

I got a bunch of tile, too much for my little car to handle in one trip, and they let me take my time picking it up in many trips and even helping load my car. I had a good experience working with Home Carpet One in 2010 so I returned to them this year for another project. I was assigned to Mark. He was extremely frustrating to work with. I had to insist that they carried certain tiles when he kept telling me they didn't. I had to correct him multiple times during my visit when he kept incorrectly entering item numbers and total sq ft. Then weeks later, when I wanted to add to my order, I emailed him and received no response. This, despite the fact that his voicemail encourages customers to email vs. call for a faster response. So I called and placed my additional order with another rep named Julia who was friendly and helpful on the phone. But then over the course of the following week I had to request an emailed receipt twice before receiving it. I was also scolded by Mark who was cc'd on the new order for forgetting the address of a pickup location. He refused to just resend it to me! I asked for the pickup location store name, phone number and hours as well and only received it (minus the hours) after sending a frustrated and exasperated email about the poor customer service. It's a shame really. I have at least $2,000 more in tiles to order for my kitchen but it's not worth the negative and time consuming customer service experience to buy them through Home Carpet One. UPDATE: I quickly received a very kind and apologetic response from the owner. He offered to help me with an unrelated issue and waived charges. Given this, I've raised my review to 3 stars. read more

My husband and I have used Home Carpet One a few times over the past 8 years. We've experienced a range of service from excellent to less than stellar. The owner is very active in the store and works to resolve any problem that he is notified about. That is a big plus and a big reason why we went back. We received excellent service with Fred Alsen during our remodel. We highly recommend Fred. He helped us choose the right carpet- which we get tons of compliments on and absolutely love. He also chose the perfect tile and border to complement our powder room's existing floor. Our house would not have turned out so nicely without Fred's design help. Found the perfect carpet that literally matched the other two rooms I was leaving as is. Again Karastan.. on a sale day at Carpet One. The "measurer"came to my house and measured perfectly. Very professional. I had new space heaters in all four rooms of my condo that resulted in open spaces on each and every side as they were shorter than my originals. The two rooms I did not replace carpet had to be patched with the original carpet from rooms I replaced with new carpet. The two installers were so great and the patches can't even be seen! The new carpet was laid to perfection.. and my furniture was moved and returned to original location easily. Can't say enough about this company. This place is great, from the selection and pricing to the customer service. I've been able to get very high end coverings to very affordable (for the areas where I know my dog is going to pee). I guess I got lucky the first time I walked in and was greeted by Rosie. She knows everything in that store and is very helpful and responsive and has also offered some great suggestions. Every time she's sent someone out to measure, install or repair, the guys have been timely and courteous and have done a great job. As for the comment the other reviewer had about area rugs, I selected carpets and had them bound so that they functioned the same as area rugs - but much, much cheaper and to the exact measurements that I wanted. I paid a fraction of the price for a bound carpet that looked like a 25K silk rug that I knew I couldn't have because of my dog. Of course, if you go this route, the selection is limited to solids or repeating patterns, but this still leaves you with a lot of options. read more

I recently decided to re-do my bathroom floor. I decided to visit the store in Lincoln Park, where they have a very nice selection and the salesperson was nice, and helpful. unfortunately, some of the tile didn't work out. When I brought the tile back to the store for a refund, I was told there would be a 20/40 % restocking fee, which I accepted. Now after two weeks, I am still waiting for a refund! I don't appreciate the lack of understanding and service. Maybe the bigger stores (Home Depot) are the best way to go! I returned seven pieces of the tile the way it was delivered to me, in a box that was never opened and two pieces wrapped in plastic wrap. Due to Home Carpet One poor packaging, two pieces were damaged in shipping to the supplier. Therefore, receiving credit for five pieces! After getting very upset with the manager, I have received the correct refund. Very sad that this had to happen and ruin it for the other stores. read more

They follow up, but it is not overbearing. They quote with no hidden costs. My last purchase was carpet, and since it was a sizable purchase, I shopped around. My husband and I remodeled our bathroom this fall and needed all new floor and shower tile. I had researched a DalTile I liked and found it was sold locally at Home Carpet One. We went into the shop and met George, one of the amazing sales associates there. He showed us to the DalTile in question and helped us tour the store to look for shower tile. Ultimately we ended up finding a different floor tile we liked even better and the dream shower tile. George placed our order for our floor and shower tiles and had everything all packed up and ready to put in our car a few weeks later. A few weeks into the project and our contractors failed to install the tile correctly. We had to replace all the tile because the contractors had done such a terrible job. As a reviewer before, I also have a love-hate relationship with Home Carpet One. At first, the honeymoon was smooth with Danny being extremely helpful with the hardwood flooring for my new condo and the tiles for the bathroom. The hardwood went in on schedule, just before I moved into my new place, with no problems whatsoever. Now comes the unfortunate incident. Now that I recall, I did say that I would be picking up the tile for the bathroom (not knowing how heavy it would be). When I went to pick it up, there were two workers loading it into my car with ease. Now I'm not out of shape for being 24 years old, but when I got home, the problems started. Each box of tile weighed 78 pounds (I put them on a scale) and with 8 boxes to bring upstairs, it wasn't a walk in the park. Thank goodness I have an elevator in my place, but by the time I finished 3 trips up and down, rage had built its way inside me. I know it was more my fault that I didn't put delivery on the invoice, but I could have been informed that the tile would be heavy. I strongly recommend you add "delivery" on your service or you may end up like me: tired, angry, and hurting. Needless to say, I would buy from them again, just take extra caution when placing my order. read more

We had originally ordered carpeting and tiling in the summer, and then after a fiasco that WAS fixed by Home Carpet One, we ordered more carpeting and all went smoothly. There is a new manager and he quickly corrected our previous carpet and tile work issue, and made our second carpet install experience a smooth one. Whenever we go there, we have had wonderful sales assistance selecting tiling and carpet. They have a good selection of both. The first carpet job was done timely and efficiently. All seams were good except one. When I called about the issue, a new manager Shawn had arrived, and was GREAT at immediately taking care of the showing seam. We also had had some new tiles installed prior to Shawn. The tiles arrived on time and all in good shape. The tile job installer not from, but thru, Home Carpet One was nice, but not timely finishing, and in one shower left a floor tile elevated from the rest, and left out a small wall tile. However again, although the manager had just started, as soon as I made him aware of the issue, he quickly got installers back in to fix both spots. It looks perfect now. The third experience with installing carpet with the new manager on board from the start, went seamlessly. They seem to stand behind their products and their recommended installers. My most recent experience was wonderful: Their serviceman came promptly to repair my carpet and he was a delight. Not only did he repair the snags, but he inspected and set my vacuum cleaner to its most effective level, showed me how to remove depressions, and how to tuck in the carpet edges.
